Today,…read more11/30/2025....what an awful interaction with a miserable women that I was later told is a store manager. I was having a hard time finding a book by James Fell, a fairly well known author. I asked her where I could find his books and instead of simply looking this up I got a nasty face, and a disdainful "I don't know who that is. Are you sure that's the right name?" Not her words...her tone and demeanor. SMH. Another employee, right nearby, assisted me, found the book in seconds and was on his way. No...I didn't buy it. Principle. I passed her again later and got another dirty look....really? Another issue entirely...is there a good reason that there are novels...many novels.... in the religion section? Inquiring minds would like to know. I hadn't been in this store in quite some time...won't return any time soon. Changed and not for the better. FTR...everyone else that I spoke to in the store, aside from the rude manager, was quite pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Wow, B & N...Amazon is eating you. Do better.

I couldn't say the same for their parking lot though, it's not very big. They buy and sell used books and this place has A LOT: books (they also have rare/signed books on the floor and behind the regster), vinyls, and pictures. The front of the store has a more organized setup that label the shelves of what genre and the back of the store is where they keep their clearance items. I liked that they have staff picks descriptions or personal takeaways written on small note cards on the shelves and lots of places to sit around the store, especially in the back. I also noticed a sign on the wall saying you can rent out the clearance room in the back for events which is neat.

A man at the Oyster Bay Historical Society recommended I also visit this bookstore...so glad I did! The ladies working in the store were so friendly and helpful...and it's a GREAT Independent bookstore. Some cool little gifts and things too...since the "Teddy Bear" was named for Roosevelt, I bought a bear here from the "Teddy Bear Corner" and a baby book for my grandson. Also found some T.R. items as well. Fun place...check it out if you're on a trip in the area.

My first question was what I ask all used bookstores -- did they had a philosophy section, but "very little or no humanities", according to Ray Harley, the owner. "What we do have is Baseball and American history." Both of which they have in abundance. He wasn't kidding. Shelves and shelves of books on the sport -- I mean, if you're into all things baseball, this is a literary treasure trove). In addition to American history. I also found a decent section on Jewish and U.S. Catholic history as well. The store itself was a study in chaos; apparently they were unearthing a lot of material from the cellar, so boxes and boxes everywhere which required some nimble navigation of the stacks. But what was shelved themselves was fairly organized. It's definitely a good place for browsing. Pricing: specializing in old, rare and out-of-print, most books on the shelf that I found were in the $20-25 range. There are a everal $1 carts out front where I found some pleasant surprises. Takeaways (nice haul): - The Mission: A Film Journal by Daniel Berrigan, S.J. -- regarding the making of one of my favorite movies.
