Since I'm a 'Ted Head' for Theodore Roosevelt, I loved the little pictures and displays in this store..

I came to Oyster Bay from NYC on the Long Island Railroad to see Sagamore Hill National Park due to high interest in Theodore Roosevelt. A man at the Oyster Bay Historical Society recommended I also visit this bookstore...so glad I did! The ladies working in the store were so friendly and helpful...and it's a GREAT Independent bookstore. Some cool little gifts and things too...since the "Teddy Bear" was named for Roosevelt, I bought a bear here from the "Teddy Bear Corner" and a baby book for my grandson. Also found some T.R. items as well. Fun place...check it out if you're on a trip in the area.

While strolling through Oyster Bay on a summer afternoon, I made my way over to this adorable bookstore. My New Year's resolution this year was to "shop local" and I am so glad I have been. Theodore's Books is situated conveniently in the midst of many dining establishments and plenty of on-street and municipal (free!) parking. I was immediately greeted when I walked in, but I was left alone (thankfully!) to peruse at my leisure. After selecting a book, I recalled wanting another book that I'd heard about recently. I asked the young person behind the counter and she knew the exact title, author, and where in the store I could find it. Easy and low-pressure purchase, great prices, and personalized service. This venue is charming, has all current bestsellers available, and the staff knows how to help find books to fit your needs. I also learned they run a monthly book club and have special events/speakers. How wonderful! For my bookish followers, RUN to this store and enjoy a slice of small-town America right here on Long Island.

A really great bookstore in a quaint cute town. It's harder and harder to find any small independent bookstore, let alone one that's welcoming and friendly. This shop is all of that and more. It's sparkling clean and updated, with a huge selection tailored to a variety of wants. I love a bit of an edge and sense of humor, and this place has it. There's a banned books section on the left when you walk in, and incredibly catchy recommendation cards by the staff on shelves throughout the shop. I'm not a big history reader, but Claire's rec of "Swashbuckling Sugar Daddies" for the book "Pirate Enlightenment, or the Real Libertalia" by David Graeber, hooked me and I had to buy it. When I got up to the counter to pay, the staff was incredibly friendly and we got into a conversation about books and video games and everything in between. I signed up for their free rewards program too, and I can't wait to come back, find some new good reads, dive into some more great talks, and rack up some loyalty points. Thanks for a good time, and I'll definitely be back.

Enthralling book! Couldn't put it down!

Stopped by Theodore's books while strolling through town and I was impressed with the suggestions from the staff. Picked up the silent patient by Alex Michaelides and only put it down to write this review. The store is quaint but well stocked with a wide selection of material. Please support local businesses and stop by!

What a cute hidden gem! Had a wide selection of both fiction and non fiction. I love the little placards added by the staff suggesting what books to read & why. Ambiance was amazing & really peaceful, prices were as marked. Playlist was 10/10. They even gave a bookmark with your purchase & the staff was so sweet. Two things I didn't really like: I overhead that they don't carry any books by independent authors / self published, only books with a publishing company. Not sure if that's true but if it is, that was sad to hear. Another thing; this store is very political. Political books are thrown front & center. I'm a big reader of fiction / thrillers, and I know that not everyone is. But if you're going to put a book representing one political party in positive light, then you should put another with the other party there as well. Not all books bashing one party. Or better yet, just keep it to literary classics and leave the political books in the political section. Other than that, I really did think this store was so cute & would return.

On an annual trip to NYC, I decided I would visit bookstores and take in all I could. B&B was right…read moreby my hotel, and I was delighted to find a comfortable room full of baseball memorabilia and a great variety. They specialize in 19th and 20th century English and American literature, which means you're going to see a lot of titles you're familiar with. I stopped in late in their day, so I wasn't surprised to be the only one there, but the team gave me space, answered very basic questions I had, and - gasp - LET ME TOUCH THE BOOKS. This is far from a stuffy environment, and when I finally convince my partner that I need that very expensive piece that has F. Scott Fitzgerald's music for Princeton, I know exactly where I'll go.

5 minutes before B&B books was closing, I buzzed the room located on the third floor to see if they…read morewould let me in "just to look." Well, 45 minutes later, I was still oohing and awing at the marvelous selection of first edition books they have to offer. This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children. Sunday stayed AN EXTRA HOUR at her store while I looked and answered all of my questions that I had, never making me feel rushed or unwelcome. After selecting a first edition Fitzgerald, she wrapped it in bubble wrap for my travels back home and gave me an updated book with all of the rare book sellers in the country.
