Always have a delicious meal at hakkasan! We ordered so much food this time around and the server was excellent- he recommended the perfect dishes and pairing for us. Hakkasan has more of a dark ambiance which is not surprising because it also turns into a club but also gives an intimate feel. While the food was undeniably wonderful, the service fell well short of Michelin standards. After finishing our meal, we were asked to move to the bar to complete our coffee and cocktails because our table was supposedly needed for an upcoming party of eight. Not only is rushing guests off a table deeply unhospitable, but the table remained completely empty for the rest of the evening. To cap off a frustrating experience, we were left waiting indefinitely in the bar area just to settle our bill. Our favorite Michelin so far. We have been collecting Michelin Starred restaurant experiences for a few years and had to try this on our recent UK leg of our honeymoon. And it immediately became our favorite so far. It may seem strange to say that then give it only 4 stars but the only item that was odd to us was the way you order. It was quite unclear. It is a set menue, with various price points. It was not made clear to us initially that when choosing a menu, you are choosing the ENTIRE MENU, not choosing a menu then items off that chosen set list. Had we understood that we may have gone with something else as I have stomach issues that making eating out a bit of an ordeal. So when talking about a set menu at this price point that can get quite tricky as you can imagine. However4 I did notify the staff at the time of booking and they did go above and beyond to distinctly point out everything that may be problematic for me in each dish. I did not end up having issues post meal. It was also quite loud and we're just getting older and have less of a tolerance for that now. The food was all delicious, even if we weren't totally sure what were eating all the time. They did not scoff at or seem judgey when I had to ask for a fork - I'm just really bad with chopsticks (think food flinging out of my hand into my lap) I did not love my specialty Negroni that I ordered off the cocktail menu. It was very sweet for a Negroni, but I did love my second, classic, basic one. it was very good. My husband loved both of his drinks (Old Fashioned's). They also comped our desserts and sent out a special Happy Honeymoon message on one additional dessert, which was very sweet and unexpected of them. A note I constantly see on Michelin starred restaurants as a complaint is that you spend a lot of money to leave a bit hungry, and yes it is very expensive, but we were not hungry when we left. Came here to celebrate the new year, was looking forward to writing a wish on one of the little cards provided when dinning in. However, they had run out. The place was completely packed and the music was turned up quite loud it was hard to hear each other at our table. I've dined at the location in Las Vegas before so the food was comparable. Wok-fried sea bass with five spice soy sauce - skin was mushy (not crispy) and the fish was still pink-- wasnt cooked properly, Maybe a little less on presentation and a little more on food taste. Nice dishes with a good selection of cocktails. I ordered one of the prix fixe selections but would suggest ala carte as some dishes weren't exactly to my liking and they just whisk away the food without offering a substitute. We had a fantastic romantic dinner at Hakkasan. All of the dudes and drinks were not only well seasoned and executed but also beautifully presented. The vegan dim sum, silken tofu, and stir fried ribeye were particularly good stand outs. Service was good and the server was knowledgeable and able to offer great suggestions. Great vibes although it can get quite busy and noisy at times. We asked for a quieter table and they were kindly able to accommodate. Classic Steamed Dim Sum includes 2 pieces of : Langoustine har gau with Prunier caviar XO scallop king crab and prawn shui mai King crab with peppercorn sauce Wild mushroom 9.31/10- all of these were delicious and unique! The presentation is also fantastic. I felt that they were quite creamy, but not overwhelming. Also very high quality. This was the best dim sum I have had. My favorite was definitely either the langohstine har gau with caviar or the XO scallop king crab and prawn shui Mai. The dim sum is also incredibly filling! I had 1 of each flavor and was already quite full. I did need chili oil with the dumplings though. Black Truffle Roasted Duck 8.79/10- this was absolutely delicious and very rich in flavor. The skin on top of the duck was perfectly crispy and the duck meat was tender. The pieces melt in your mouth. I did find that I needed to have a lot of chili oil though as I was looking for a little spice to balance how creamy the duck was. Strawberry Goji Martini 6.34/10- not that great, very bitter and also took such a long time to be served. I had to remind the waiter twice, and it didn't come out until maybe 50 minutes after. Jivara Bomb 8.78/10- this hazelnut chocolate dessert tasted like a gigantic ferrero rocher. Very tasty, decadent, and rich in flavor. This is a Michelin star Chinese restaurant that I've been meaning to try for a while as I've heard great things, in addition to it being a favorite restaurant of many. Snagged a last minute semi-private room reservation the day of. The semi-private room seats 12, and has a minimum spend of £1,500. It also requires you to pre-order one of the sets - of which everyone gets the same set. We went for the pearl set at £148 per person; so its quite easy to hit the minimum. The stand out items imo were the Hakkasan signature Peking duck with Prunier caviar, Supreme dim sum, and maybe the roasted silver cod. Everything else was ok. Wife and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary and what better than a Michelin-star rated restaurant in London! Unfortunately our experience was less than stellar. First, our reservation was cancelled at the other Hakkasan location and was diverted to Mayfair. We were offered complementary Champaign. No problem. We chose the "Pearl" Pre-fix menu at £150 each. We also ordered drinks. I knew what we were getting into, so I expected very expensive drinks (£17-25), but what we got were "half" drinks...barely enough for a couple of sips. Service on drinks were super slow, was not able to maintain any buzz. Had to ask twice to check status. Also asked for another napkin and never got it. Had to grab from another empty table. Drinks itself was very tasty, but atmosphere somewhat ruined by the waiting. Food was average. The Stir-fry baby broccoli and preserved olive and the peking duck appetize were the standouts. Those are the two I consider "worthy" of Michelin star quality. The rest (venison, 2nd duck course, octopus) are P.F Chang quality westernized-chinese food. It's fine...but not elevated, and absolutely not worth £150 per person. Look, I'm not going to be snobbish about the food...I know coming in I'm really paying for a special experience. At a total of £450 for the 2 of us, if we had great service, it would've overcome the mediocre food! I don't think it was asking too much for an elevated experience at that cost. This is one of my regular restaurants along with Scott's, Nobu and Zuma. Always great for people watching, food also is amazing. My favorite is crispy duck salad. I usually don't eat duck but trust me, if you need to eat one dish from here, it should be this one. My second favorite is dim sum. We get vegetarian dim sum because my BF doesn't eat shellfish if it's up to me I'll get the non vegetarian one. Dim sum presentation very well and taste good as well. We always share couple of main dishes including sea bass, beef and vegetable. I would order all of them again. Must try in London. Hakkasan is the kind of place one goes to see and be seen. And it serves its purpose exceptionally well. Sultry lighting, tightly-packed open dining areas, and a location in one of London's meccas for the well-to-do create a conflux of factors that encourage socialite (and wannabe) congregation. Attractive serving girls, (attempted) flair bar tending (isn't free-pouring not the done thing in the UK?), and beautiful copywriting of menu items enhance the vibe. If the conversations of the parties on either side of our table were any indication, this is more often than not a date night destination as well. For you heteros out there, guys take note: between the middle-of-the-road priced girly beverages and the natural aphrodisiacs in the food, your chances of scoring upon bringing a lady friend here may possibly skyrocket.* The £14 dim sum platter was unlike any dim sum I'd ever had before. Posh merely nicks the surface of just how fusion each steamed quasi-dumpling appeared and tasted. I highly recommend the sea bass with Szechuan chillies - just don't expect much heat. Even with a warning from our server about avoiding the spicy peppers, I barely felt a tingle on my tongue. And whilst the sauteed morningglories (cong xing cai) were perfectly ample and tender, you could probably get an equivalent dish at many eateries in Chinatown for a fraction of the cost. All in all, a fine enough experience. This was my first time at Hakkasan and it lived up to the hype. We went on a Saturday night and it was quite busy as expected. Definitely recommend booking a few days ahead. The restaurant is quite big with lovely interiors and an intimate ambience though it can get quite loud. The food was absolutely delicious! Being a fan of Chinese food, I've had many meals at several places across the world but will definitely keep coming back to Hakkasan. There were 3 of us and we ordered the following: - supreme dim sum platter: it was very well presented and there was a good balance of flavors. The chicken shumai with caviar was amazing! - Morel mushroom and vegetable spring rolls: tasty but nothing you wouldn't find at a good Chinese restaurant - Stir-fry Peking style duck: this was the best duck I've ever had and until yesterday I wasn't a fan of duck! If you don't eat duck then this might be the place to start at. - Stir-fry back pepper rib eye beef with Merlot: another absolutely delicious dish! - Hakka noodles: a dish most places take for granted but Hakkasan got it right. This is one of those times where I wish Yelp offered half stars in their rating system. My experience at Hakkasan Mayfair was 3 1/2 stars. Hakkasan is a Michelin rated Chinese restaurant with a dark, intimate vibe. Definitely a dress up and show off your stuff type of place. Upon entering my co-worker and I were immediately greeted and escorted to our table. Even on a Tuesday night the place was packed. Our server came over and took our drink order first. I ordered one of their signature drinks, The Hakka, which had Belvedere vodka, Akashi-Tai sake, lychee, lime, coconut and passion fruit. It was excellent and flavorful but was disappointed to see my glass was only 2/3 full. That has always been a pet peeve of mine. Either use a smaller martini glass or fill it up. As for our dinner, most things are appetizer or small plate sized and meant to be shared. We asked for suggestions from our server but he didn't seem to interested and gave us a few quick suggestions. Luckily my co-worker has spent time in the Orient and is more familiar with Asian cuisine. She asked me to trust her judgement in ordering (she did great!). We shared: *Dim Sum Platter - 6 pieces of Dim Sum. scallop shumai, har gau, Chinese chive dumpling, duck and yam bean dumpling. Each type featured 2 pieces each so my co-worker and I were able to try one of each. Very tasty and each one had a unique but equally good flavor and texture. *XO scallops stuffed in zucchini with royal pumpkin sauce. Scallops were fresh but sauce was pretty bland. Not overly impressed. *Stir-fry Peking style duck with dried chilli, Szechuan pepper, baby leek and onion. Flavors were excellent. Not overly spicy but the right amount of kick to it. *Hakka noodles with shimeji mushroom, baby leek and salted turnip. Absolutely delicious! Flavors were perfect and amazing. During dinner I ordered a second cocktail and was again disappointed with a 2/3 full martini. I'm a drinker and have no problem spending good money on alcohol but don't skimp your customers. Our server came back and offered a dessert menu but we both declined. We weren't stuffed but satisfied. I'm still not sure what to think about the experience. The food was great even excellent but the wait staff seemed uninterested. The atmosphere at Hakkasan was hip, trendy and beautifully decorated. Seemed a little show offish and snobby though. However, when looking at the menu after booking I learned it is a Michelin star restaurant. The ambiance is great and high class, so dress to impress! The service is great, and our server answered our queries about the food. I am vegetarian So I started with the veggie rumbling platter and it was PHENOMENAL. You get to eat 4 different types of really good dumplings. My main dish was black pepper vegetarian chicken which had a lot of good flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant. The Mayfair location like all of the others is quite busy so make a reservation. For a Michelin star restaurant I walked away overall underwhelmed. Service was quite good though. For the appetizer I went with the Vegan dim sum. I informed them I was allergic to corn, which turned out to be fortunate because they use corn flour/starch on the dim sum. I then told them I eat prawns so could they make me a special appetizer. And so it began. The server went to ask the chef or whomever in the back, came back and said no. I then said ," Do you have prawns, correct?" He said yes. I said you can make a dish that doesn't use corn flour or starch correct?" He said yes. So I said than what is the issue? For a Michelin star restaurant (or any that costs more than a few pounds) the only answer is yes, we can come up with something. He went back to the chef. I ended up having a great prawn appetizer. The main course was the Tofu, Aubergine (eggplant), mushroom claypot. I do not recommend it. The sauce was bland, no flavor even though I saw chilies. The tofu was flavorful but not pow. The aubergine fresh, but flavorless. Only the mushrooms seemed to hit a high note. Regardless, do not order it. As for dessert, I went with the sorbet. Excellent..They allow only 2 hrs to sit at your table, and when the time expires they watch you like a hawk hovering around for you to pay and move. So be aware. read more

We're visiting London from LA and have been to the Hakkasan in Beverly Hills before it closed down. I've heard great things about Hakkasan (mostly regarding the Las Vegas location) from other (disclaimer: non-Asian) friends...and while we prefer authentic Cantonese/Taiwanese/Sichuan cuisines, I can appreciate the place for "Asian fusion" restaurants...every now and then, I'll even go to PF Changs cos it's easy (less intimidating/scary for friends wanting to stay in the "safer/what's familiar" zone of Chinese food) and it's clean and close by to where I'm meeting friends etc...and I know to temper my expectations from the PF Changs' meal ahead of time too. I'm giving this meal 3 instead of 2 stars because I've already been to Hakkasan Beverly Hills and already knew what we were getting into (food and price wise). We have no issues spending much much more on Chinese food (like $1000 USD and up for 2 for fancy Cantonese delicacies like shark's fin soup, bird's nest, abalone, spotted prawns, lobster, Alaskan king crab etc)... I really did want to like Hakkasan Mayfair in London, the decor is modern and very clean (one of my biggest issues with many "authentic ethnic" places) but the Supreme Dim Sum platter at £30 with 4 different items, 8 pieces total) tasted so tasteless and bland despite one having black truffle garnish and another with abalone inside...my fiancé actually told me he thought they all tasted pretty much the same if he was fed them all blindfolded! The Singaporean vermicelli was pretty tasteless and usually, that should be full of flavor and have some amount of spice to it...it looked the way it should (a bit yellow in color, usually cos of the curry powder/flavor) but completely bland... The soft shell crab small plate was crisp with light batter but we've also had just as good soft shell crabs at just about any other normal/homely Japanese restaurant in LA and even in Washington DC. The best thing was my Coconut Passion Fruit mocktail...def one of the best mocktails I've ever had (and we've had plenty from all levels of Michelin Star restaurants to local mom and pop eats around the world)...but I do tend to love sweet drinks and this was definitely very sweet but fresh and not artificial like many mocktails can be when they use just a mix of syrups and concentrated juice flavoring. I think if you do want an upscale Asian/Chinese but "safe/with some fusion options" place, go to Zhengs Chinese in Kensington. At Zhengs, every dish we ordered was tasty and well executed, has modern spotlessly clean decor and from the crowd we saw dining there, it definitely has enough dishes to satisfy those wanting more of an Asian fusion taste. Ironically, I don't think I would say we'll never go to another Hakkasan, as there are times where you compromise and just go with the flow. It is definitely a popular enough place (like Nobu--which we do enjoy) that will come up amongst friends suggestions and the food hasn't seen terrible...but at the prices they charge (which is not really the issue for us since I know some people would never like a restaurant no matter how amazing it is just because they can't see any meal being worth over $100 usd or $200 usd per person)...Hakkasan would never be the "go to" place for us if it were just my fiancé and me selecting a restaurant to eat at... read more

A laughably bad dining experience. My husband and I were so incredulous by the end of it all we could do was laugh. For the price point (we spent about 700 pounds for two jade tasting menus and several cocktails), you'd expect a modicum of service and for the food to come out hot and not oversalted. This place does not deserve it's Michelin star. It's clearly resting on it's laurels and it's frankly embarrassing that this is what most people think is "high-end Cantonese food." It makes me mad, because I've had much better food in non-Michelin star places down the street. This place is clearly more of a scene than an actual good dining experience. The food and place is certainly very Insta-grammable, if that's what you're looking for. On service-- we had two different groups of waiters come with menus, a sign of things to come. We asked for waters several times and did not get it until after the first course was done. Our cocktails did not come until the second course was on the table. At one point, the server nearly dropped the top of a dish onto my husband's lap because he put it dangerously on the edge of the table. I missed the entirety of the dessert show, which was set down with dry ice, because the wait staff came in with the the food right as I left for the bathroom. When I got back, the ice cream was already partially melted. On food-- of the 9 things we had, I would say only two were not oversalted and actually good. The Peking duck was extremely underwhelming. Most of the food was cold. The best dish was the wagyu beef, which is not even Cantonese cuisine, nor actually cooked or touched by the chef, which probably led to it being better off. I have to say that although I enjoy going to Hakkasan due to the good vibe and energy the place has, the food is a bit too westernized for me and doesn't have the delicacy or the details that I would want. Is it becoming too franchise?... is the question that I ask myself while I'm eating. Then I look at the utensils and the plate and then see the many scratches due to it being overused. We had the Bamboo set menu and a Peking Duck on top, which was plenty of food.
