An excellent place to go if you want to get some work done, as well as a latte and lunch. One of my favorite things to eat there is the farro bowl, it's very fresh, and has lots of different textures and flavors that really compliment each other. Unfortunately, you can only get eggs at Hala soft boiled or scrambled. I wish there was an option for hard boiled, but the kitchen doesn't do that. You also can't replace items or ingredients of any of the menu options, only can add on. We came here on a Saturday morning and were happy to see it wasn't completely packed like most cafes in the area during the weekend. We ordered at the bar and I decided on the chicken sandwich with a side salad. We sat ourselves close to the front windows and were given order numbers that the servers used to drop of out played when they were ready. The service here was fast and friendly as well. Hala is the cafe experience that anyone would want in the neighborhood. a large space with a good amount of seating serving menu of quality eats and drinks. stumbled in here on a sleepy Saturday and was in need of coffee. the Americano came out piping hot and full of that caffeinated flavor when the day has been too cold and you're running on fumes and it's only the early afternoon. the coffee was quite good and did its job. while it was a sleepy Saturday, Hala was full of people working / studying so it was pretty quiet. the vibe was definitely low key. the space is really clean, well-organized, soaked in light, and has a welcoming tone to it all. the service was chipper and the warm. wish i had taken advantage of the food options (they look good) but that's a good excuse to return. and only in Bushwick would a cafe bathroom key be named "Kevin"--do with that knowledge what you may. read more

I used to work down the street from this establishment about three years ago and loved the coffee and vibe in here. Today I decided to order it on Uber Eats because why not, it's been a while. Not only is the coffee very expensive (which I am not particularly unhappy about because it's super yummy), but it arrived completely spilled out of the cup. The poor courier was apologizing and looked so disappointed in himself but I felt awful for him because this, to me was not his fault. The packaging was only masking tape over the lid and that's all. I called the establishment and was met with an unfriendly response and "well accidents happen" and "we don't have any other way to package it, it's not really our fault." Almost every time I've ordered coffee/drinks from other places before and even when I worked in service, packaging of to go drinks was heavily prioritized to avoid this issue. Idk maybe I'm being a karen but saran wrap exists??! anywho this bad review is more so about the service aspect and maybe just to suggest that they change the way they package to go orders. This is my favorite kind of cafe - the kind where you can get a coffee/tea and a bite to eat and get some work done. The Hala Hash was tasty. The potatoes were crunchy and well seasoned, the eggs were perfectly runny, and the side of tomato confit reminded me of a good pasta sauce. The music is upbeat but relaxed and quiet enough that you can easily talk over it if you're eating with someone else. There's plenty of seating, wifi, enough writing to read or write, and a few outlets to charge your phone or laptop. read more

I really liked this cafe. As a home visiting social worker, I like to come here for a debrief every time I visited a homeless shelter nearby. The Coffee (Halo) they a brewing is always delightful for me. Although it is just a hot brew coffee, it offers me clear layers of fruitiness with mild kick of attack and after taste. It is great to have whether in a hot summer afternoon or a windy snowing winter. The environment provided me a moment of still and quietness and relaxed me all time. The hash was extremely flavorful tiny pieces but they only give you about three tablespoons worth. The tomato confit comes chilled and tastes like high quality sauce with cilantro. You won't be full from this meal, more like a snack but the quality is good. I would come again and try other items. read more

Incredible baked goods and delicious, healthy, thoughtfully designed/prepared bowls and sandwiches -- way better than the food you normally get at a coffee place. The guys who work at Hala are friendly and efficient, almost like good local bartenders -- you're happy to see them when you walk in. Music is great -- not the expected stuff -- eclectic and cool, perfect for working, on the mellow side but not always. I have spent many an hour with my laptop here -- it's a good place to hunker down for a morning or afternoon, doesn't get crazy loud or busy. My one small reservation is that it's a bit too brightly lit, particularly in the early evening. Not sure whether they're fluorescent lights or what but dialing them down just a bit would add to the vibe and also make it easier to work. Otherwise, perfect. When did it become okay to sell a $9 coffee? It's absurd and something I'm seriously reflecting on after this trip. Unfortunately, I got a seasonal coffee which lacked seasonal flavor which was maple bourbon. The staffed felt inattentive although it was not busy whatsoever -- I said good morning and got no response, said thank you for the coffee and got no response. They were slow and unresponsive after a drink spill and when asked for a clean up rag began unrolling bits of paper rolls which was not enough for a big spill. And, the shop itself did not seem to have any napkins available. It's probably fine for a grab & go visit, but not as welcoming if you wanted to sit and sip. read more

It was too much to even ask for some simple syrup, or a napkin. The employee literally scoffed and put the quickest, smallest splash of simple in my coffee, left coffee spilling off of the top, rushed me out, and ran back to sit down and be on their laptop.
