Awesome little spot! I've probably passed by this place countless times without realizing it was there, but today I finally decided to give it a try. I wasn't very familiar with Afghan cuisine or what to expect from a halal döner kebab restaurant, but my experience was excellent. One thing I really appreciated was the open kitchen concept. As soon as you walk in, the kitchen is right there on the side, allowing you to watch the food being prepared. Everything feels transparent and fresh. I ordered the chicken gyro, which was packed with flavor and incredibly juicy. I also tried the lamb tikka and beef kofta. Watching the cooks prepare the meat on the large skewers over the grill made the experience even better. The meal came with rice and a side salad, making for a satisfying and well-balanced plate. You get two tender thighs and a drumstick, all seasoned and spiced perfectly. The long grain rice is delicious, and the portions are genuinely massive for the price. The side salad and vegetables balance everything out nicely so the meal doesn't feel heavy. They include three sauces on the side, but honestly the chicken is flavorful enough on its own that I haven't really needed them. When I went in person to pick up my order, the place was really clean and well-kept, which I always appreciate. I also noticed they have desserts, so I'll definitely be trying those next time. The platter shows the rice comes with carrots and raisins. We received rice with no carrots or raisins. When we called them, they said we had to pay $15 more for this add on. 1) there's no mention of this on the menu, 2) the person on the phone didn't even mention this and 3) they offered no resolution for their misleading menu. Halal Doner Kabab is a great addition to Northern Blvd. Their restaurant is clean and newly renovated. I was able to call the restaurant to order for pickup. When I arrived, there was only one person working the kitchen and register, who I would assume was also the owner. We ordered a couple of things to sample the menu such as their spicy jerk chicken platter, mixed platter, and fried chicken drumsticks. I was amazed by how packed each platter was with protein, sides and rice. The mixed platter was a flavor bomb and possibly one of the most delicious halal platters I've ever had. The red, white and green sauces were drenched throughout the platter and the protein was seasoned well. There were also french fries and some lettuce and chickpeas in their side salad that balanced the meal. The spicy jerk chicken was not authentically Jamaican but tasty nonetheless. The chicken was juicy and the sauce was great with the rice and side salad. Lastly, the fried chicken was also pretty amazing. It was seasoned well and extremely crispy and juicy. Just recently noticed this new spot on Northern with their grand opening flags outside. Got the mix over rice (chicken and lamb), 3 PC fried chicken meal which comes with a biscuit and a side (I got macaroni salad) and a carrot cake. The fried chicken was SO SO GOOD. The chicken is well marinated so that the seasoning is deep into the chicken meat not just on the batter. If you like Popeyes fried chicken definitely give their fried chicken a try. I came home and intended to take just one bite of the chicken then put the groceries away..I ended up polishing off all 3 pcs standing at my counter on the spot. I'm so glad I found a new fried chicken spot! The mix over rice is very good. Well seasoned. Comes with a bit of salad and topped with a few pieces of crunchy fries. The rice is on the al dente side which I like. Some places the rice is on mushier side. They are generous with the red/white/green sauce. There are a few tables and it has an open glass kitchen. Looks clean and you see your food being made. The owners are very accommodating to whatever you want. If you like spicy make sure to let them know... Their fried chicken is not spicy however I believe they put some spices in it to make a spicy just for me. Also they gave me extra extra hot sauce; red and green. A gem in the community! They have such an extensive menu and I got a mixed over rice and my bf got a gyro and both were delicious and huge portions. They have pretty much everything you can imagine here to eat, from breakfast to dinner, including smoothies. The woman behind the register with the hijab was incredibly sweet and kind, and seems to be a friendly face to so many. She was striking convos with people that seem to be regulars. She made smoothies and even walked over and gave my bf and I the leftovers while we waited. What a kind gesture. It seems like a homey mom & pop ran type business, with an older gentleman on the grill. It was cozy in there and I love it. I would give them my money any day. Jerk chicken was passable, but you can definitely skip this item as your typical jamaican spot does a much better job than this place. The fried chicken is identical to the fried chicken you would get at a Kennedy fried chicken. The star attraction here is the mixed platter. Stopped in for dinner because I was in the area. I've been in the area many times before so I didn't realize there was a doner spot nearby, which I was pumped by. Ultimately, it was fine. There are a ton of options seemingly and I went with a mixed chicken/lamb salad. The salad aspect was very fine (lettuce, tomato, nothing special). The meat itself wasn't the best doner kabab I've had but it wasn't too far from what I was expecting. It was a little cheaper than probably some other spots in the area. The white sauce was plentiful (they ended up giving me 6 containers?) but it was a skosh thinner and less tasteful than I'm used to. The restaurant itself really only lends itself to takeout. The tables don't fit the vibe at all and I ventured to the bathroom, which is downstairs in an area where I feel like customers probably shouldn't go. The meal took about 10 minutes to prepare, which was a bit longer than I would have expected for the amount of other people there. Service was pleasant enough. I was picking up desserts at a nearby café when I noticed this unassuming new halal restaurant recently opened and decided to try them out. Doner Kabab serves burgers, shawarma, smoothies, desserts and fried chicken (they are also a Kennedy Fried Chicken Express restaurant). I ended up getting the Lamb over Rice and Salad Meal ($9.99). This dish had cubes of lamb, rice, salad, French fries and a few pieces of pita bread. I was asked what kind of sauce I wanted on top of the platter, and I said "everything" so they put the white, red and green sauce. This was such a bargain at ten bucks (before tax and tip). Portions were huge and could be shared with another person. The green sauce had a slight kick but not overpowering. And I really appreciated the addition of the fries which were freshly made, along with the salad and pita bread. Their menu also has Kids Meal options. And they sell Shahi Kulfi ice cream in many different flavors. I only had a short amount of time during this visit but they are definitely worth checking out again. read more

a great neighborhood addition! we usually go for the chicken rice plate and it comes loaded with tons of food. they put a lot of thought into everything, and what may seem like an afterthought at other spots (salad) are still carefully made. the salad has chopped onions, cucumber, and tomatoes with lettuce. the chicken is always juicy, though sometimes salty (easy fix, we ask them to go easy on the salt). the portion is huge and i can make two meals out of it. delicious food, huge portions, made by the warmest ppl. i love this place and i hope they stick around! read more

I happen to see this place while driving by a few weeks ago and wanted to try it. I read the yelp reviews and felt pretty good it will not disappoint. Boy, were they right. Price was right and portions were huge. Most importantly the owners are sooooo nice. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food (they had several large orders before I walked in) and they were a bit backed up. The owner (woman) kept coming over to apologize.
