I love my Gyros. The one served here was dreadful. The meat was dried out. The sauce was mediocre. The pita was over cooked and dry and the fries were also over cooked. The ginger ale was nice and cold though :) Maybe they do have something better on this menu but the Gyro was a major disappointment. read more

We were in the neighborhood for an appointment and happened to be driving on Wolf Road when Halal Grub caught our attention. It was still a little early for a full-on lunch crowd, so we were the only ones there (for a little while, anyway). We started with two different kinds of hummus- regular and roasted red pepper. Both were VERY generous portions and delicious - served with warm pita. The kabob platters were also large - cooked fresh to order and served piping hot. The rice leans towards a more warm cinnamon/slightly sweet flavor and the chicken cubes are definitely marinated in a lovely curry. Plenty of leftovers - enough for two more meals, in fact. Stopped by during a work trip to Albany, NY because it was close to the hotel. Clean establishment with friendly staff. I ordered off of their suggestion and was very pleased I did. Food came out fast and fresh. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

I saw the sign go up a few weeks ago and today we stopped in and they were open. They are still having a soft opening this week so I'll give them a pass for a few mistakes. There were only two people working. One taking orders and one in the kitchen. They were scrambling a bit to keep up with the orders coming in. When it was our turn I ordered the lamb kabob pita wrap, one of my companions ordered the chicken kabob plate with rice and salad, the other ordered the beef kofta plate with a side of fries. Most of our orders came out as expected but the beef kofta came out as beef kabobs and the fries were nowhere to be found. My companion decided to keep the beef and not make an issue out of it. When we told the employees they provided us with a double order of fries for free. A nice gesture. The chicken and beef were flavorful but not very unique. The lamb was a bit undercooked for my taste and not very plentiful in the wrap. The pita and vegetables were fresh. The rice had a decent amount of cumin flavor which I didn't mind. Unfortunately the bread that came on the side was not fresh. My favorite part of the meal was the sauces. All three were very tasty. Love me some spin sauce and the cilantro tinged green and sweet and spicy red were also delicious. They didn't have the smoothie supplies ready yet so I can't comment on that. Opened up my chicken gyro and kofta plate to find no sauces. That was disappointing. Did they forget it does it not come with anything? There was also a picture of a sale with the rice plate but no salad in the plate. The description says includes basmati rice and salad. It's a soft opening so they get a pass this time on the sauce and salad miss. The kofta kebab was pretty tasty but would be better with that red or green sauce. The naan on the said wasn't fresh or warm. The rice was nice. 4 stars. The chicken in the gyro was juicy, veggies were fresh, and the pita was good. 5 stars for a $7 gyro. Pretty good. It was our first time there. We ordered and the plate looked appealing but in our opinion was too heavily seasoned to really enjoy. The fact that the employee TOLD us to bring our plates/tray to the counter when we were done infuriated me! Um hello you're in the customer service industry...why not leave your customers with a warm happy feeling and pick up after them when they leave??? I guess good customer service is out the window these days, seems like it's long gone. Anyway, the location is great and the food would be MUCH more pleasant if they laid off spicing the hell outta it. Gives chain vibes just like the rest of this area. Food doesn't seem to be cooked to order. Hot sauce was super vinegary and mild. Falafel was bland and was dry since they don't mash and cook the falafel to order. Was more expensive than my regular halal place and the serving size seems smaller. read more

No flavor. I ordered a chicken gyro and seasoned fries. The best part of the meal was the pita and sauce which isn't enough. The chicken tasted like it was only seasoned with pepper and the fries tasted like they had paprika and that's it? Not even ketchup made them better. So glad I went to Halal grub for my Dinner yesterday. The Gyro meat was perfectly cooked the correct thickness and there was twice as much sauce as you normally get. I was very glad I went there I enjoyed the fries they were delicious and the chicken Gyro was also perfectly done I will go back next time I'm in Albany! read more

The food is average! Nothing special, bland as compared to other places! My complaint is that I ordered online, paid and went to go pick up in which case I was told the order didn't exist and that the online set up doesn't work and that my money would not be taken. Driving home and sitting on the couch an hour later and I'm still feeling like the rock hard meat is lodged in my mouth. Also was asked to hurry up and finish by staff seeing as how it was 850. Just had my first experience at Halal Grub and I ordered the Chicken Kabob Entree. The chicken comes served over a bed of basmati rice with a side salad and piece of afghan naan. The good: -The server was very friendly -Menu is small which makes ordering easy -The white sauce The bad: -The chicken was dry, very dry. -The naan was meh -The cilantro sauce didn't really have much flavor -The interior of the restaurant was lackluster, table was dirty when we sat down and all of the soda syrup boxes and CO2 system are exposed just sitting out in the open. -No ice in the ice machine (although could be chalked up to wrong place at the wrong time) Long story short - Halal grub is ok. There are defintely better places to get this type of food that are very close to Halal Grub. (See reviews for Mazadar) I probably won't go back again. Also, I want to note my friend was very happy to have a halal fried chicken sandwich which is apparently hard to come by in Albany. read more

Another Albany gem hidden in plain sight along Wolf Road. They make things when you order them, so it's not fast food. You can avoid a wait by ordering on-line. In my experience it took about 15 minutes to get a kofta sandwich. Well worth the wait. Fantastic kofta beautifully presented. Both the wrap version and the pita version were warm and succulent. This is not stale, dried-up grocery store pita. It's fresh and warm and soft. And they have specials. If you want something quicker order the lamb or chicken gyro. So far the lamb kabob, the chicken kabob and kofta kabob have been excellent. The orders are taken attentively and served graciously. And they take credit cards, Applepay etc. read more

I never leave reviews but I had to this time! The food was delicious. Chicken was tender and juicy, wings were Great. had the chicken kebab and the spicy wing zing. My friend had the lamb chops and said they were excellent and had a great char on them. The only drawback was I ordered a smoothie and I think they gave me the wrong flavor. We visited this plaza today to go to Arby's and noticed this place next to it. We decided to try it. It was the best decision ever. We had 2 gyros (chicken and lamb mixed) - the meats were seasoned perfectly,the lamb not gamey at all and the flavors all came together. The pita brought it all together..romaine lettuce, meats, red onion and tomatoes. They make their own sauces. We got to try the tzatziki and the "white sauce", hands down..this white sauce is pure gold. We also tried an order of French fries- crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Delish. We cannot wait to go back and try some other things. The guy before the counter was Kareem, he was so nice and made great suggestions. He shared they are from Queens, NY and recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. They are originally from Afghanistan and the flavor of the food is all represented.
