Thai Iced Coffee ; coconut mojito
    Kristen K.

Part restaurant, part oasis. It was a wonderful experience at Suwun Thai. I'm not an expert in Thai cuisine but the staff was wonderful in explaining what certain things were and answering any questions I had. Our waitress also had the perfect mix of attentiveness and letting us enjoy our time which made for a very relaxing lunch. The iced tea was sweet but with a nice warm spice. The dumplings were packed with filling. The noodles for the pad Thai were light and not greasy. I've had pad Thai other places that came in a pool of grease. My husband said the beef in his meal was very tender and well seasoned. I would gladly make the drive here again and again. BONUS- there's a parking lot in the back!

Food, the environment just excellent, look at the pictures. It is hard to find a good Thai restaurant, everyone can make sloppy pad thai, but this is different. The flavors stand apart from what you'd expect at a typical Thai restaurant. They get everything right, and every dish tastes incredibly fresh. The dumping, look like they wrap it themselves. Kao Soi Chicken from the seasonal menu was great. Curry was bold and creamy, goes well with the noodles and chicken. The coconut pudding is excellent. Take a scoop and there are 2 layers apparently. Bottom layer is sweet and dense with coconut milk, and the top layer is like a cream coconut dressing. Service is excellent. I looked up and made eye contact with the waitress, and they will automatically come and check on you every time. Definitely one of the best restaurant in Albany

Love at first bite. I wish I came here sooner, I can't wait to come back. Everything we ordered was incredible, the cocktails too. This is like elevated modern Thai in a chic environment. The aesthetic inside is the perfect vibe, I love the dark greens and florals. The lighting was perfect for photos too, so instagram-able. The bar was gorgeous and so were the drinks, and they were incredible too. I ordered the lychee martini but subbed the vodka for gin. I am not a sweet drink girlie but I love a lychee martini, and this was the best I ever had. I also ordered the Oliang Martini which was just like an espresso martini but a little more bold, delicious. The coconut mojito was also gorgeous and my sister ordered two. Great spot for cocktails. We wanted to try so many things, and we did, with plenty of left overs. I had never really been to a Thai restaurant but I knew enough to know I wanted to try Tom Kha. I love soup of all kinds and this was no exception, I worry I will crave this all the time. The creamy, savory and slightly sour taste was addicting. For other apps we tried the golden dumplings which were perfectly moist and flavorful inside, with the crispy wonton crust you love. We also tried the shrimp donuts, these were good but a little on the spongy side, so the texture wasn't really my thing. We also ordered the chive cakes, which were like cube shaped scallion pancakes. I honestly was full at this point, but everything was so delicious and I love left overs. For entrees, I had to order the pad Thai because I never had it. I got it with beef and it was such a delicious dish. The noodles were the perfect texture and it was flavor packed. We ordered mild in all dishes, and they still had a kick, which I loved. We also had crab fried rice, perfectly fluffy and light. Crispy duck curry, insane dish that I would love to order at a future visit, and the pad see u noodles. I honestly have nothing bad to say. This is a new hot spot. Vibe is immaculate. Cocktails are noteworthy. The food matches the experience. Price is on par with similar caliber restaurants locally, I wouldn't consider it a cheap night out. Come here to splurge a little on a great experience.

Beautiful place with a great atmosphere. Quite a bit of seating indoors and a few tables out front. Everything we had was delicious. Service was good. I look forward to going again.

Food was tasty! Delicious! Great portions! Service struggled throughout the meal. The pineapple fried rice was tasty and great presentation, but didn't have much pineapple in it. We had to ask for bowls plates and silverware for both courses served to us and we heard the table next to us had to ask for the drinks they ordered more than once before they got them (and after waiting a long time). We were sharing plates and weren't given any spoons or serving utensils. When we arrived, there was only one or two other tables occupied and then after we ordered, it filled in pretty good. We were forgotten. The server or servers kept visiting the tables closest to the bar and back and left us and the adjacent tables for a very long time. We were finished eating and waited and waited. Overall, the food was great and I will def try again, but the service needed improvement. a drink was knocked over and spilled on our table when we first were sat, I think the server was having a rough night.

Food was incredible! They accommodate for vegetarians and vegans which is really nice. Only issue was how the spice level is inconsistent by dish, even if you order the same dish and same level. They had also forgotten our tofu in one of the dishes and they had offered to remake it which was nice. Vibes are very cute and nice place just to grab drinks by the bar.

Full disclosure - we went to Pad Thai Noodle shortly after their re-opening and they were too busy for us to be seated or even order takeout. No worries - we'll try again another time! Makes me happy to see them thriving and busy after what they had previously been through. So, we jumped on Yelp and found Suwun Thai, parked in the back and entered into a beautifully decorated restaurant. The ambiance was lovely...it felt like a high-end super fancy spot without any pretentiousness. Service was prompt and friendly as we started with a Thai iced coffee (gigantic serving and delicious) and a pot of hot tea. Chicken Satay and fresh rolls were delicious - as were the curry and noodle dishes. If we find ourselves in this part of Albany again, we'll be back!

Amazing restaurant!! Came here for dinner with a friend and it was such a wonderful spot! Walking in, the interior is so wonderfully decorated and the ambiance is so nice and peaceful. We were seated quickly given that it was New Years Day and our waitress was very quick to bring us water and take our orders. They have very creative appetizers and I would love to be back to try more of them. The taro and corn fritters were absolutely delicious and crispy. I also got the chicken with peanut red curry and vegetables under their street food section of the menu which was also so yummy! I would love to be back to try more of their specialty dishes as well! Perfect place for date night or taking friends and family.

This was my second time and I went with dear colleagues. The lunch special is such a great deal and the food is delicious. The service was great and I love the decor. We ordered Drunken Noodles with Tofu; Pad Thai with Shrimp; and That Barbecue Chicken with fried rice. All of us had the spring rolls which were included with the lunch specials. One in our group ad Tom Kha, but I do not have a photo. The very large Thai tea was the star of the meal and it was delicious! I cannot wait to go again.

I was excited to hear an "authentic" Thai restaurant had opened in Albany. I have never been to Thailand but have had many meals in holes in the wall in the Bay Area and LA so I think i understand the essence of Thai street food and unfortunately, Suwun makes the usual compromises for fear our provincial tastes will reject the real thing. I asked about the heat level of green papaya salad because I have often been served something that was almost too spicy to eat. The server said "we don't usually serve it spicy" and my heart sank; I asked for a medium heat level and the dish was too bland. Boat noodles, which I think of as requiring some funky element such as pig's blood to distinguish it from pad see eu, was similarly bland. I asked for hot sauce and all that is available is sriracha; none of the jalapeños in vinegar or fish sauce/garlic/lime/chilis aka Thai nam jim. The shrimp donuts we ordered as an app were fine; shrimp paste in a rice flour batter nicely fried and served with a sweet/sour dipping sauce. My companion's Tom Kha Gai was good. And the decor in this former home of Cookoo's Nest is pleasant and welcoming. If I was rating this for my former Thai food companions Chuck and Philip it would be 3 stars. But I'm guessing most folks are not as picky as I so am kicking it up a notch for good quality and pleasant environment.

This is now the third reincarnation of a restaurant at this address. For well over thirty years, I was a regular at The Gingerman Wine Bar. Then came The Cuckoo's Nest for a few years, which I also frequented quite often. Now, another quality establishment that looks worthy of repeat visits. Neither of us was interested in an alcoholic beverage on this evening, so we ordered a bottle of Saratoga still ($8) along with a pot of Jasmine Tea ($4) for my wife and a Thai Iced Tea ($5) for me. The Jasmine tea was the typical tea bag in a piping hot cast iron pot of water. I would have preferred a slightly stronger tea flavor in my Thai iced tea. Shrimp Donuts ($14) is bound to catch your eye as you peruse the list of appetizers. A blend of minced chicken and shrimp deep fried in a coating of very, VERY crispy panko, these three donuts are almost a meal in themselves for one person. The flavor and texture, even before dipping in the provided plum sauce, is excellent. My wife chose the Vegetable and Tofu Green Curry ($16) which was served with a bowl of Jasmine rice on the side. While we were not asked how spicy we wanted our meals to be prepared, and the menu did not mention whether such a choice was an option, the curry had a nicely noticeable spice level for our tastes. I could see where it might have been too spicy for some people. The mix of baby boc choy, tofu, carrot, red pepper, and Thai eggplant pieces were all on the larger side, making it necessary to bite them into smaller pieces in order to fit a mix of them on the provided tablespoon. Otherwise, this was a very enjoyable dish, especially as the addition of Jasmine rice soaked up some of the curry. My Duck Pineapple Curry ($28) from the Suwun's Signature section of the menu was an excellent choice. The roasted and deboned half duck was perfectly cooked to be flavorful, tender, and moist. The pineapple curry with basil, lychee, and tomato was absolutely delicious. The spice level was perfect for my taste, but once again, the carrots and green beans would have been easier to eat if they had been cut into slightly smaller pieces. I thoroughly enjoyed mixing in the side of Jasmine rice to help totally clean my bowl. Service was warm and welcoming. The private parking lots in the back of the restaurant make it easy to access the restaurant.

This is coconut pudding so yummy everything that i had for today is awsome

Good food, good service, good astmosphere. This is second time i've been here. Awsome!!!

I love Thai food and this place delivers. I had the: Green Papaya Salad Spring Rolls Pumpkin Curry Peanut Lover Eggplant Everything was excellent and I would get again. The only caveat is that the Green Papaya salad uses fish sauce. The server confirmed if it could be made without it but when we got the dish, it appears that it still had fish sauce. Apart from that, the service was great. The place is very classy and beautiful.

    How is the parking?

The parking is EXCELLENT! They have their own parking lot behind the building. You can enter it from the driveway, off Western Av, along the left side of the building, or from Jay St off of Quail St.

Tamarind Thai in Latham is one of my favorite Thai restaurants!…read more There are several dishes that are already "accidentally vegan" meaning it is a plant-based meal that doesn't include any animal products like eggs, butter, dairy milk, seasoning or sauces made from seafood or mollusks. Their curry dishes are all accidentally vegan, and you can keep them vegan when you add a protein by choosing either steamed or fried tofu. The staff is so polite and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and can help you customize your meals if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant, or have any other food sensitivities. On this visit they were decorated for the holidays. Beautiful red, silver, and white balls hung from the ceiling, string lights, pine garland, and a flocked Christmas tree in the front window all made the restaurant cozy and inviting. I had the curry fried rice with spring rolls and unsweetened iced tea and my husband had the hot vegetables entree with white rice and a side of sticky rice.

Many people get take out from here which I will admit, we have done twice but we really enjoy dining in at the restaurant because it's fun. The staff is really nice and extremely helpful. When we say vegan they know what we mean which is difficult sometimes because a lot of people have misconceptions about what that entails. You have to think about what ingredients the noodles were made with, do they contain egg or not. What sauces are traditionally used, is it a fish sauce? Is something cooked with butter? So just saying no meat, eggs, or dairy doesn't always make people think about everything but this restaurant gets it. Also people ask well what about gluten? It has nothing to do with being vegan it is related to having celiac disease. Bottom line, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, they know what is in their food and they will tell you or offer suggestions to help you out. The spring rolls, the gyoza, the crazy noodle (drunken noodle), curry rice, fresh rolls, all of it has been good everytime we go. This review is long overdue, Tamarind is just so good if you need vegan or vegetarian options they have a lot of plant-based menu items. The unsweetened iced tea, that's my jam! Love it!

Not only does it have excellent Thai food, it also has one page of their menu offering Korean choices. There are separate lunch and dinner menus. Both menus are easy to navigate and clearly written. Their menus state designated spicy dishes can be modified on a scale of 1 to 5. There are numerous lunch specials offered. They come with miso soup or green salad. The waitress (owner?) was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We started with Spring Rolls and tea. Tea bags were placed in large mugs. I would have preferred a pot of brewed tea and small handleless cups offered at a few other places. We ordered lunch specials: Drunken Noodles with Tofu and Pang Kamee with Chicken. The soup broth was flavorful but could have had more tofu pieces. The Spring Rolls were average. My Pang Kamee was seasoned perfectly. Very tasty, it was seasoned nicely with spices, but not hot. I liked the perfectly cooked wide noodles and thinly sliced carrots. The chicken was moist and tender. The Drunken Noodles was also enjoyed by my daughter. What was exceptional about it was the Tofu! There were large pieces of tofu that were sautéed or grilled slightly. Delicious! Best tofu she has eaten in a long time. Our portions were generous, and both meals were finished because they were tasty. The restaurant has nine uncrowded tables and does a lot of takeout.
