I came here for dinner while staying at the hotel. I started with the Artisan cheese platter which was pretty good! The jam and tapenade came in these little sorta like bowl things - I thought something was off as I used a knife to take jam/tapanade out of them because it felt like the knife was digging in to the bowl. I figures I ingest enough microplastics on a daily basis I didn't need to have more so I gave the bowls a closer look and feel and I broke one of them. WTF?? It felt nothing like plastic or ceramic. I asked the waitress. Turns out they make them out of pie crust!! Pretty cool if you ask me, but I might lead with that in the description!! I had the French onion soup and the drunker goat cheese salad with salmon. The onion soup was notable in that it wasn't wildly salty like French onion soups always seem to be which was nice. I also liked how the salmon was seasoned and prepared with the salad. All in all I'd eat here again. read more

The renovations in this restaurant are spectacular. Semi-private dining, lots of space. The service is very professional! Fresh warm rolls came and I ordered a side Caesar salad which was surprisingly big. It had lots of shaved Parmesan and fresh romaine lettuce and the Caesar dressing was really good. My friend got the side Mr. D's salad and it was huge. Lots of cranberries and mandarin oranges, cheddar cheese, almonds, and lots of fresh greens. It had garlic dressing. I wished I had ordered that! We ordered the crabcakes as an appetizer. It came with two nice sized crabcakes. They were meaty and tasty. I ordered the salmon and shrimp with rice. It may have been a special because I don't see it on their menu and I forget what the glaze or sauce was that was on it. It was a little overwhelming but I just took some off and it was actually very good. I think it was wine based. Two big fat shrimp and a nice piece of salmon cooked to perfection. The brussels sprouts were cooked and spiced just right. The rice was good too. Large portions of everything. I was here at a conference and I never think of stopping by here and just grabbing some bread pudding. I will have to keep that in mind! read more

We were seated right away at a nice table, and the waiter immediately came over to bring water and take drink orders. I have to say the service was excellent throughout. My husband ordered french onion soup and a burger with fries, and I ordered the lamb entree. My 2 lamb T-bones were cooked perfectly, and I was served with a generous amount of mashed potatoes, which were quite good and a side of cauliflower in a special sauce. My husband said the french onion soup was good, but a little salty. He reported that the burger was "okay" and not very juicy or flavorful. I liked the glass of wine I ordered. The ambiance was nice and it was quiet enough to be able to talk without raising our voices. I would definitely come back to this restaurant and try it again on the basis of the fact that my lamb dinner was so good with quite generous portions. read more

Wonderful burger with yummy gluten free bun was what I had late one night. I also had a very fresh Caesar salad. The food was delish! I remember hoping the wonderful staff (I encountered others as well,) were given stock to reflect the wonderful way they greeted and took care of everyone coming in the door. We were in town and meeting up with some old friends and because we were staying near the airport, they suggested Mr. D's. Overall, it was OK and delivered what we needed it to, but it wasn't the greatest of dining experiences. Here's why: - It's definitely a hotel restaurant...it seems like the type of restaurant associated with a much lower end hotel. Perhaps it was the floor, the decor or the blowing cold air that we couldn't escape, but it had a really cold vibe. There were also some tables directly below speakers billowing fairly loud music, so we asked to be seated somewhere that would be a little quieter. - Service was pretty subpar...starting the water being dumped out of the water glasses when they were served and not being wiped up without us asking for an extra napkin to clean it up. The server also didn't seem to be able to understand the special requests (that all the rest of us seemed to get) that one of the people in our party made...so the food came out wrong later. - Menu wasn't bad with a broad range of both bar food, lighter sandwiches/salads, and full meals. - Now, having said all that above, the food was not bad. I ordered the Salmon Fillet Salad, asking for the salmon medium rare, and it ended up being cooked perfectly and the dish was very tasty overall. My wife got the Desmond BLT-E and really liked that too. - We each only had one glass of house wine with dinner, so I can't comment on their beverage selections. Botton line: This is definitely not fine or semi-fine dining...from my experience, I wouldn't go back to Mr. D's unless I'm trapped at the hotel and really in need of some food/drink or if I was traveling on business and eating alone. read more

Had a lovely visit. My husband and I stopped in for a drink and found seats at the bar right away. My hubby had a dirty martini and I had a cocktail with lemon and honey, I believe (I forgot the name but it was delicious). The only reason I gave this place to stars is because the breakfast and the breakfast crew made up for some of what happened the night before. We made reservations for dinner on Friday evening for five people. We ordered the Korean barbecue wings on the recommendation of the waitress and they were very good. Out of the five main dishes, two were inedible. One was the mahi soft tacos, which came in case in dried out stale taco shells, which at one point I suspect we're soft. There was scanned fish inside and a lot of mayonnaise slaw on top. After trying to eat one I stopped. The dish was completely inedible. Another main a pork also Boco was served with a leathery piece of dried out pork with absolutely no gravy on it. Looked like it had been sitting out for hours. The hostess and waitress were very apologetic and remove the two mains from our bill. It was hard to locate the waitress and she forgot to bring additional drinks we ordered. Altogether a miserable experience for a celebratory evening. The dining room is very nice, however, and we were able to sit near the fireplace . read more

The service was excellent. The food average. Certain dishes were better than others. No complaints about the French onion soup which exceeded expectations. The Oso Buco was supposed to come with Forest mushrooms. They did not. Instead, I got a squash medley. The mashed potatoes Did have a hint of mushroom flavor, but were overpowered by horseradish which just didn't work. The osso bucco itself was fine. We had a party of 13 and we all take food, pretty seriously and tasted one another's meals and appetizers. The drunken clams were quite good. The pizza appetizer was disappointing. The beer and alcohol was very satisfying, quite a nice assortment, served at the right temperature. The mixed drinks were well-made. I had no idea this restaurant existed until I needed a last minute breakfast rezzie and Open Table said Mr D's was open and available at 10 AM on a Saturday. The restaurant is modern-decor and was very quiet on a beautiful spring May the Fourth. We were seated immediately thanks to the reservation but it was so quiet that we didn't even need to have made one. The menu on the Mr D's website differed from the one we received but it was okay. Our party of 3 had ample options for food. I had an egg white omelette with gluten free toast. The toast tasted almost too "normal" and I had quite a belly ache after which makes me think there may have been a mixup in the kitchen. This is the only reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 4. Everyone else's meal came out great and our mimosas were wonderful and the entire bill was just under 50 dollars. A great deal! read more

We stay at the Desmond Hotel often and I look forward to going to Mr. D's. If you're just coming for a meal, you're in the right spot. Extremely easy to get to and the huge parking lot can easily handle many cars. After entering the beautifully renovated lobby of the hotel, you make a quick left into the restaurant. There is also a dedicated entrance. The casual modern decor makes for a very relaxing visit here. There is a great bar with wonderful staff. Plenty of room to sit as well as many high tops and standard tables. There is also a lower seating area with a TV and plenty of comfort. Most of the time I get the wings, which are perfect-delicious. Just crispy enough and a wonderful mild (or medium sauce.) They are also a good size to enjoy. Their lettuce wraps and flatbread pizza are also delicious. I've come for breakfast in the morning and they do a great job with that too. Eggs (which is what I usually have) are always prepared to my request. They have great meats and even the bagels were good. Great service and an amazing-friendly team. I am always looking forward to my next trip to Albany. KUDOs to the team at Mr. D's. read more

Everything was great at Mr. D's! We had dinner twice this weekend in the restaurant and also had a banquet dinner as well. From Mr. D's Salad to the Sirloin Steak and penne ala pesto with shrimp. The Korean Bbq wrap was good as well. Don't miss out on the New England Clam Chowder. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to try the Lobster Bisque. I was told it's fantastic! Be warned, the portions are very generous, even at breakfast. The staff were very attentive and the dining room very pleasant. After a three-hour drive from New York City, all you need is a good meal to get reenergized. Let me introduce you to Mr. D's Restaurant & Lounge. I loved the decor, ambiance, a variety of seating options (bar, hightop, lounge, and regular). The outlets at the dining tables and the wireless chargers on the bartop came in handy to quickly charge your electronics while grabbing a bite or drink. The menu was a real treat. You had your choice of appetizers, salads and soup, handhelds (burgers/wraps/sandwiches), entrees, desserts, and beverages. We had dinner on our first night at the hotel, breakfast and then a late dinner the next day. Mmm...I tried the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries for dinner, the classic breakfast the next morning, and then the Argentine burger for dinner. Even though I did not order the hummus, original and roasted pepper, tzatziki sauce, grilled pita, which was shaped like medallions. The plating was impressive. The staff was overwhelmed by the hungry guests like my party who were in town for an annual conference, but kept it professional and did their best to deliver stellar service. Thank you to Heather, Sara, Sandy, and a few other ladies as well as the manager who even pitched in to support the servers! My family and I typically go out for Thanksgiving. We used to go to the buffet at the Desmond but I believe it is discontinued. We decided to try the restaurant instead. Now the restaurant is very busy on Thanksgiving with people coming and going. Our lovely hostess took us to our table it was all ready on time. Her name is Dianna. She did inform us our waiter was new so try to be a little patient. Nate was very very good. You would never have known that he was new except that we were informed of that fact ahead of time. I don't know how many tables he had, but he was right on the ball. Everything was served on time and he even had to clean off the table. I really didn't see any bussers. Except for the table being a little bit crowded at times everything was great. Thank you Dianna and Nate for working on Thanksgiving so we could enjoy our holiday meal. We will be back! read more

Mr. D's is a restaurant locate at Crowne Plaza Albany The Desmond Hotel. I actually went to the hotel to attend the business event. I had a breakfast at the restaurant. It was nice and a good toast but the service wasn't quite organize. Morning host wasn't super welcome, I just doing self service by my own because the meeting is beginning to start. At night The business event has a happy hour at the bar of the restaurant area. It was super crowded and not enough service worker. So the service was so slow and mess up. I suggest when the hotel knows their will have to catering a large group of people over 100 - 200 attending. They should get more people and actually it is good for them to get a job flow. read more

This week I find myself in Albany NY. Starting at the Crowne Plaza it only made sense to eat at Mr. D's (the hotel bar). The bar is well stocked, the menu isn't simple bar food, on the contrary it is a very good menu. I ordered the filet, which was amazing (except I hate capers) perfectly cooked and tender. It came with asparagus which was stringy and tough. The service is amazing, the bartenders remembered my name the next day. The setting was in a very nice location with a nice view. read more

Do not be wary of Mr. D's because it is a "hotel restaurant." The Desmond Hotel has been around for a long time and recently has had a makeover. It's lovely and cozy. Prices will surprise you for the quality of the food and atmosphere. Everyone who serves you here is friendly and helpful, they want you to have a great meal and it shows. We had breakfast here when we stayed a night at The Desmond last weekend and the challah French toast was so amazing that we came back for dinner today. I like to order filet mignon when we eat out because I never cook steak at home. The filet here at Mr. D's was perfectly prepared and so tender I could've easily cut it with my dinner knife instead of the provided steak knife. It was grilled, then drizzled with shallot butter and a very light mushroom sauce and was unbelievably delicious. The fresh beans were also prepared perfectly--crisp tender, but not too crisp, just right! And the potato cake... I've never had such a good potato side dish. The outside was perfectly browned, and so thinly crusted that it melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were seasoned just a tiny bit, just enough to make the potato cake especially yummy. Luckily I had seen a review for Mr. D's that said HAVE THE BREAD PUDDING, so I did order one for my husband and I to share. Well, even if you have had what you thought was the best bread pudding, or if you don't even think you care for it, order it here. The bread is not dry, nor soggy, nor hard, and the custard and whipped cream are perfectly balanced. it is DELICIOUS! Next time we won't share it! read more

gordon ramsey here. the wait time wasn't bad when i came here and they got our drink orders right away but it took forever to order and get the food. when the food came out preparation left a lot to be desired. i would expect the food to be somewhat decent for the time it took to microwave. the "pesto pasta" had no pesto in it and the grilled chicken was underprepared topped with wilted spinach. the hummus consistency was mush and it was very unsettling because of the lack of flavor. the turkey on the turkey avocado panini melt tasted like expired rubber, while the avocado was clearly warmed up and expired as well. the bread was also stale. The Blue cheese tasted like expired mayo with chunks of blue cheese barely hanging on. although the service was nice unfortunately the food itself couldn't quite live up to par. godspeed read more

I am the Social Chair for the Albany/Capital Region Chapter of ASGA (American Singles Golf Association) and we gather at Mr. D's the 1st Friday of every month for Happy Hour and a bite to eat. We always ask for Jessica to be our waitress because she has a wonderful personality, is energetic and attends to our needs. And the food is always good! Upscale decor and great service. The menu offers a nice variety of dishes that should satiate whatever you're craving. My arugula salad with wedges of tomato was fresh and tasty flaked with roasted salmon filet. My spouse enjoyed her classic hamburger. The pizza appetizer was ho-hum but I would recommend the Buffalo wings with ranch dressing. Don't leave until you've tasted the Adirondack chocolate chip cookie. You won't be disappointed. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Tracey our server. We were staying at the hotel and needed a nearby place to have dinner after a long drive and RARELY eat at hotel restaurants, but decided to give it a shot after reading some of the reviews. So glad we did, because it was better than expected! I got a house salad which was cleanly washed, cool and fresh and definitely hit the spot. The creamy garlic dressing was clearly homemade and super delicious. My roasted vegetables flatbread was even better. The dough was very tasty- not bland, like a lot of flatbread I've had elsewhere. The toppings were fresh and a nice blend. The only thing I was surprised about was the amount of olives! I really dislike olives, and didn't even think to ask whether there would be any olives in my order! No biggie, I pulled them all off lol. The flatbread was served HOT- it came out only a couple of minutes after hubby's order but that was because our server wanted us to get our order right when it was ready- thank u! Hubby ordered a burger with cheddar cheese and was very pleased! Cooked exactly the way he ordered it (medium) and a nice size too. He is VERY picky about his burgers so the fact that he loved it, says a lot! The onion rings were only okay. I highly recommend this establishment. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. I write this review as a first time visit that was horrendous. Don't get me wrong my wife and I visit this pub restaurant quite frequently. However on this Friday 6/10/2022 we had reservations for 3 persons for 3 o'clock. We arrived a few minutes before 3 and found no greeters nor wait staff and we just proceeded to take a table figuring the waitress would be by soon. As it turned out on our arriving there was another older couple looking to get a table and they sat down near the bar. There were two girls at the bar, and a couple sitting down in the pit where the fireplace is as well as where we sat, After 20+ minutes I decided to hunt down any staff. To my amazement I could not find any. So I walked to the reception desk and there was a nice gentleman who asked if he could help me? I said it would be nice to get a waitress or bartender or someone to come to our table. At this time the young girl server said she was sorry but she had cut her leg and was taking care of it. I asked her if she was ok? And she said she was. At this juncture the gentleman took three menus over to our table. However the young lady never followed. However another lady came over and took our order. I asked for two orders of the drunken clams and she said they were all out. I then ordered chicken wings mild and my mother in law ordered me the Lobster bisque and I settled for the pulled pork sandwich with potatoe chips. Worst sandwich I ever ate. Chips were good. The wings were ok but the sauce tasted funny as did my soda which was a little on the flat side. Terrible experience on my part. My mother in law ordered the same pulled pork sandwich but with sweet potato fries and she just ordered take away containers since it wasn't that good for her either. My wife ordered a hamburger with a side of mayonnaise and had potato chips with it and a glass of water. She said her meal was not too bad. For going to this place for many occasions I must say who ever was in charge of the cooking as well as managing the staff did an epic fail. I am sure I will be back again but no way will I suffer through a meal that costs more than most and was of such low quality. You may have better luck. read more
