Now 10 1/2 years old my daughter has followed my nieces footsteps. My girlfriend is ending her time with Hype and We are only buckling up and getting ready for the ride! Because of the dedication, training and support of the all choreographers, Hypersquad parents, family and friends my daughter is now out of her shell and on Competition team! Mariah (now 7) had such an amazing time at concert and already told me she wants to be in every single number next year LOL. I wanted to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for everyone at the studio doing what you do for all of the students. I will definitely volunteer in the dressing room again next year and I will have a better idea of the flow. The concert was amazing as always and well worth it in my family's opinion. We look forward to many more concerts in the future. I noticed this year it was a hard to see the "little ones" perform because they were often behind much taller students or far off to the side. That is the one thing I noticed that could be improved on for next year but not a big deal as hopefully we will have the girls taking more classes next year allowing them to be in more numbers. I have seen my daughter in many performances and today I just saw her in a performance at Pearlridge center and I was surprised in a good way. My daughter has become not only a dancer but has poise and confidence that only a teacher could provide for their students. I am happy that my daughter enjoys dance and music. I am also happy to have found a great teacher that doesn't only teach how to do this move or that move but also teaches, as she says, to "dance to the beat of your heart". Unfortunately, my Mini me thought she wouldn't like PACKHawaii because she knew nobody there. That all changed from the first day. In fact, she had such a blast! The staff, and volunteers were welcoming and knew all to well the feeling of not knowing anyone. They made it a fun and safe place for all the kids. Ms. Mini me decided to get up early everyday excited to go and practice. For summer, it was a whole day affair and she was ready to get out the door before I was up. Why couldn't she be like this going to school?! Anyway, performance day came and she was excited about her the whole show. The family came to cheer her on and we were amazed how great the show was! The stage looked amazing. In 2 weeks all the kids memorized their lines, learned choreography, stage presence, and memorized songs. It was impressive to see how much these kids learned in only 2 weeks. They even help make the stage, props, and programs. AMAZING! PACK has different programs. There is the summer programs, different shows to tryout, they have dance classes and offer various workshops for kids. It is such a great program and it is on the Westside!! Overall, It was priceless to see my mini me's confidence and excitement grow with each day. Thank you PACK for having this wonderful program available in the Westside. My daughter's new found love of performing came out because of PACK. She has gained so much and learned a lot about herself in just a few weeks. I can't wait to see what next summer will bring.

Westside Story is one of my all-time favorite "classic" movie & musical play and I must say, PACKids did this production justice! Who can resist singing along to "When you're a Jet," or "I Wanna Live in America," or even belt out, "take my hand and I'll take you there..." or "I Feel Pretty, oh so pretty!" PACKids really outdid themselves by singing, dancing and acting their hearts out on stage - it was truly believable and something they can be proud to have been a part of. I know I was proud to have witnessed such a beautiful musical. It's no secret, i embrace local entrepreneurial endeavors and that affinity does not end with just my purchases. I support local talent when I can. Here in west Oahu there is not a shortage of talents and skills. PACK is a local, non-profit, after school musical theatre group that puts on 4-5 musical productions in a year. Children audition for parts and should be able to sing, dance, recite and act. It's the real deal at PACK! Since moving to west Oahu I have seen School House Rock Jr., their Christmas Holiday production, Little Mermaid and now, Westside Story. These kids are amazing!! I've seen them grow with each performance and their sets get better and better. No need to drive into town anymore to catch a play at Diamond Head, Manoa Valley or Hawaii Theatre...PACKids ROCK!!

This review is in regards to the Zumba class I recently took at Studio 808…read more Studio 808 is located in the heart of Waipahu next to the iconic Leeward Drive-Inn. I've heard of Studio 808's dance programs but have never taken a class until I heard about the Zumba class being offered there. You can take the stairs or elevator to the 2nd floor and reach the studio on the Leeward Drive-Inn side. Once arriving, there is a front desk area set up in front of the studio where people were manning. You can pay in cash or Venmo (I did the mobile pay option because I didn't have cash). Fortunately, Studio 808 has also catered the Zumba class as a remote class so you can actually sign up for the class and dance from home by watching the instructor. Upon arriving to the class, the room was overall clean and spacious. Because the class is also done virtually, there wasn't many people in the room. The Zumba instructor was Erin and I have nothing but great things to say about him. As someone who isn't a dancer, Erin was kind enough to teach the lessons via virtual cam and in-person. The overall class was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the music better at Studio 808 compared to the Zumba classes I take at 24 Hour Fitness. I would definitely recommend to go with Erin because he's exudes positive energy, always smiles while breaking a sweat and definitely knows what he's doing. I was even watching the participants online (who were older folks) and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy the class at home as they would in studio. If you're up for doing a Zumba class in Waipahu (or simply at your own home), I would definitely recommend this class to take. Admission is about $7 per class but the first class is free! Classes are every Tuesday from 6-7pm.

The instructors are really patient with the young children and make the classes interesting, memorable and fun. They are currently prepping the dancers for a spring program. Prices are typical for an hour long activity. We're paying $20 per session. They offer classes for all levels including adult classes. There is a nice waiting area for parents and they can sit and watch the children learn. A restroom is available as well. There is no dedicated parking lot and street parking can be a challenge to find. We parked on a side street.

UPDATE on Apr 29: It took Page 6 (SIX!!!) weeks to reply to…read moremy email, only to say that she was sorry she'd taken "many days" (read: 44 days to be exact) to consider our situation, but her stance was still the same. She even acknowledged that the wording of her time-off policy was unclear. I wrote back 2 days later to let her know that we would come back in April, take May & June off, and complete our year commitment in July. She wrote back the next day, letting me know she consulted with other studio owners and made the decision to release us from our yearlong contract and reimburse me for the months remaining on it. I've attached our correspondence in March. I did not ask to be released from our contract for several reasons: a) I wanted my daughter to stick to her commitment to ballet, as she had promised when we paid nearly $1k for the year -- as a parent, we were deprived of developing her perseverance. b) We felt we should honor the contract, regardless of whether we agreed with it. c) My daughter liked her instructor (not Page), has many friends, and made many others in the months that she attended Page Academy. By ending our contract, Page also abruptly ended several relationships that my daughter worked hard to build. I still do not agree with Page's time-off policy. If I may make a recommendation (as I imagine Page will read this review one day), I think time-off should be allowed 4 weeks at a time wherever those 4 weeks fall. As it stands now, students take the calendar month off (from the 1st to the 30th/31st). But if a student takes December or May off, they receive fewer weeks off than other possible months (and some months have 5 weeks, depending on the day of the lesson). It would make more sense to offer a flexible 4 weeks off (therefore, 4 lessons off) that falls any time of the month. Since Page offers classes 48 weeks (12 x 4) during the year, it is fairer to let the customer choose which 4 weeks (aka month) they can take off. Instead, the current policy forces the student to take a "month" off when there may only 2 lessons held during that time. I hope I've illustrated the inflexibility, poor service & communication, and lack of consideration & care that I experienced during our year as a paying customer at Page Academy. Never should a paying customer have to wait 48 hours, much less 6 weeks (that is 1052 hours!), for a response. Never have I received such awful service. Absolutely horrendous. And please keep in mind that my daughter is 5 years old and has no idea any of this has happened. While I would have preferred that she finish the year, as she promised us and we promised Page Academy, I'm grateful my daughter hasn't asked about why she's no longer taking ballet. I'm not sure how I'd tell her that we were "released from our contract" (the closest definition I can think of is that we were kicked out or booted from the Academy). It's just really sad and disappointing all around -- all because of THEIR poorly-worded policies and time off that we requested that happen to fall during a "month" with only 2 lessons scheduled + inflexibility on prolonging my daughter's course so that her remaining 2 months could be back-to-back instead of piecemeal.

RWDA = my dance home…read more Every Saturday from age 4-17+ I'd be at Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy ALL DAY LONG. It was my second home. My weekend home. I absolutely loved it there. :) I started with ballet and tap early on and added on gymnastics and jazz throughout the years. You make LIFELONG FRIENDS at this studio. Students are encouraged to learn ballet, which establishes a solid foundation as a dancer. It's a piece of cake learning other styles once you've practiced years of ballet. They surely teach you discipline and how to be a fine, classy lady (or gentleman!). This is a great studio to send your kids to (or yourself! They have adult classes, too!) if you want good, classic, WHOLESOME ballet, tap, jazz and broadway styles. They also offer hip hop and salsa. Taking dance lessons at RWDA and performing at the Blaisdell Concert Hall (now annual performances are at Hawaii Theatre) really help build my self-confidence as a child and improved my posture. I learned how to be organized and punctual from attending scheduled rehearsals and having various costume changes throughout the show (my Caboodles box full of bobby pins and accessories had to be in order or I'd miss my number!). I also learned how to put on stage makeup (that it needs to be a lot bolder than what you'd normally wear because the lights wash out the color). Again, the friendships that I have developed throughout the years are priceless. I still hang out with my RWDA dance buddies til this day! The studio is conveniently located next to Aiea Library, where I have studied a bunch before, after, and in-between dance classes as a kid. There are also many restaurants and convenience stores around the area that are safe and fun to check out when you need a snack in-between classes or to hang out with your dance buddies. (Or for you parents that are waiting for your keiki!) The teachers are all excellent and caring. I remember Miss Woodson herself used to help fit me in my tap and pointe shoes. She'd even show me how to screw on my taps to my tap shoes! I love how students that have grown up here eventually come back to teach to carry on the tradition. If you're interested in taking lessons, you should watch the annual Showstoppers show at Hawaii Theatre usually held the last week of June. Not to miss! However, that is only once a year, so if you've missed this year's one, you can always call the studio and check out the next mall show or try out a class!
