Definitely worth the trip to this winery. We didn't even know it existed until we were at an intersection and saw the sign. We are so glad we stopped in while we were touring Gettysburg. We experienced a lovely tasting with one of the owners. Would definitely recommend if in and around Gettysburg. It's slightly out of town, but not too far. This place is way off the road but so worth the stop . This place is family owned and operated and you can tell they enjoy their business. They were not open but were working in the shop so they let us in. The owner takes great pride in his wine and will even show you where it is made. Trust me the tour is not all that amazing but he still will show you. There are a few different types of wines here. I am sure you will find one to fancy your taste buds. We saw this place on a map while we were at Adams County Winery. Though it was only a stone's throw away, the Adams County folks didn't know much about the place. Intrigued, we checked it out. It was off the beaten path. When we arrived, we were a little concerned it would be weird, but went in. Boy, I'm very glad we did. We were greeted so gratefully and graciously by owner Noemi, who gave us a quick rundown of the place and its wines. I couldn't be more impressed with the naturalness of her wine passion, and her sheer delight as we tasted through and SAVORED 10-15 of their offerings. The wine here is the real deal, folks. We drank more than we should have and took half a case with us home. There seem to be a lot of different types of wineries out there, but most fall into two categories: 1. The large winery with the food truck, the open space for picnics and families to sprawl out, maybe enough for their own mini-wine-festival, but the wine quality seems to lack as the focus is on gatherings and 2. The mom-and-pop operation in a shed or part of their own home that makes unbelievable wines that you'll remember long after you've left the place Halbrendt defines #2, and I can't wait to go back! read more

An up-and-coming winery in the area, Halbrendt Vineyard & Winery has more hits than misses and is worth keeping an eye on in the next few years. If you love wine, it's a great time to be alive. The influx of small independent wineries run by wine enthusiasts means interesting flavors, experimentation, and, the best part, more wine. Halbrendt Vineyard & Winery is not run by your typical wine enthusiasts - John and Noemi both worked at Penn State University Fruit Research & Extension Center for several years. John has been making homemade wine for over a decade; Noemi is a plant pathologist who developed a sustainable vineyard pest management program used by other wineries. Needless to say, they know what they're doing. The love for making wine is obvious when you drive up their gravel driveway to their very modest tasting room/storage area. On our particular visit, we were greeted by the cheerful Noemi, who knows her wines not only on a taste level but the actual science behind it. Be sure to pick her brain while you do the tasting. They also have the best wine tops around - no corks, just a reusable plastic stopper, which is super convenient. For a winery that appears to have opened in 2014-2015 by highly qualified amateurs, the wine here is either very good or average. The highlights of the tasting are the Philosophy ($15), a semi-sweet Vidal Blanc, Cayuga White and Traminette blend, and the Cabernet Franc ($22). The Philosophy is immensely drinkable wine that walks the line between sweet and dry with expert precision, with a floral scent on the nose and a crispy fruity/citrus taste. The Cabernet Franc isn't quite at the excellent level, but it's solid on the fundamental Cabernet Franc flavors - dry, medium body, with dark fruit undertones and that slight pepper taste at the end. The rest of the wines were average to good - the Chardonnay didn't have enough of that rich oak flavor I love (a bit too acidic for my taste), and one of the Vidal Blancs was way too sweet and tasted flat. Overall, I walked out of Halbrendt excited for their future wines and with a bottle of the Cabernet Franc. The winery will go through some growing pains in its wine making process, but with a promising selection and the impressive pedigrees of the winemakers, Halbrendt is definitely one to watch. read more

My wife and I visited this little gem earlier today. Wow! The wines were delicious. We chose the semi sweet/sweet group of tastings. The family was gracious and knowledgeable. The setting is quaint. We will certainly be back with a cooler of food and spend an afternoon. Beautiful home in the forest behind the vineyard. Wines are affordable. We bought a Sangria special a bottle of sweet white. Stopped by with my boyfriend Dave for a glass of wine. We weren't sure they were open because the winery is connected to the family house! But what a joy. We had a very fun time, learning about each wine we tried. We chose to do the 5 for $5 wine tasting. I enjoyed the drier whites whereas my boyfriend liked the sweeter wines. We both could agree, though, that the Traminette white was very tasty. A hybrid grape (as we learned), it was a different yet delightful taste. We ended up buying a bottle and enjoying it with our Thai dinner that night in Gettysburg. Thank you to the family for being so good to us! read more

Stopped here. Very friendly winery. Only downfall was a 3 seat tasting area, and there were eventually about 10 ppl that wanted to taste while we were there. That being said, they are only 2 years old and have a lot of room to grow. Especially for this area, we really liked most of their wines. We went to Hauser afterwards for the ambiance and Halbrendt wines were all a lot better! read more

I have had the pleasure of getting married at Halbrendt Winery on october 28 and i have to say it was the most beautiful place to have it. We have known the owners noemi and john since the first day they were open and you could not meet nicer people. Have seen the signs for this place for a while and finally checked it out. A quaint little place tucked in the woods, hills, and vineyards just outside of Cashtown. Did a tasting and like most of what I tried. Conversation and explanation during the tasting was very pleasant and informative, a very nice lady behind the counter. Bought a bottle of white (Philosophy) that I thought was very good even though I prefer red wines! I will be back to try what I didn't try this time. Good wines and a good experience. read more
