Thank you for staying open past 3AM. Good vibes and the crowd was hyped. Halcyon brings in some really good DJs. You definitely need to get your tickets in advance online, because they sellout easily. My favorite club that we went to this weekend, but it was a little cramped, which made it hot. Boost that AC a little more! They need to add some lasers that maybe don't get used in the beginning, but towards the end of the night. Very cool light setup, but it's the same pattern over and over the whole night. I get it now why Club Audio SF does not trigger some lasers until later. Overall a great experience! read more

So...here we go. I've now been to halcyon 3+ times. The review hour has come... For the first time in San Francisco, "I forgot that I was in SF, I forgot for a night that I was in the USA, or even on Earth..." - me There aren't many artists that can inspire those kinds of nights, much less a venue. Only a few come to my mind: Space Ibiza, Berghain Berlin, Trouw Amsterdam....and now, Halcyon San Francisco. In what used to be known as the Beatbox (a gay oriented club), out of the "fires of creation" has risen a Phoenix, one that has proved through each time I've been there, the vibe of the soul. This isn't just another technological marvel of clubbing location, this is San Francisco - as it was, and should be. Each time I enter that door, I'm greeted with the music and the club, and the crowd head on, there are no "corners" nor hidden "nooks and crannies", this club is the temple of sound many in this city, and in the industry have been yearning for for years again. Being someone who grew up on the rave scene here in sf pre-Polk gentrification, back when Groove was reality, the sense of inclusion, of "all about the music" seems to have been lost to me in this city for a very long time. Halcyon is exactly that, a place that dreamers can go, the people who care, about the art of music, and unity, without judgment nor oppression for their way of life. A true audio escape built not to be the latest and greatest, but to give homage to the decks and the talents that grace them. Big, inviting, including, and timeless - giving homage to the place it once was, these are the areas that will take this club into a new era of late nights in San Francisco. The sound? Superb, the vibe? premium space with a clear underground nod. The people? The question should be more so "who doesn't come to halcyon?" Leave the douche and the pretentious at home, they won't work here, but neither will be turned away either, you'll be transformed upon entry, when halcyon takes you and your mind on a journey to when unity in dance was not just a concept, but a way of being, a form of being that went away and has long been missing in this city. Don't believe me??? Experience it for yourself! One point of improvement: DRAFT BEER! From a safety standpoint it make sense (no bottles to neither fall on nor use in an aggressive manner, however the aggression so far is non existent here. If the acrylic is the reason (higher costs) deposits on the first glass, have people bring their acrylware back to not pay it again, it's a concept used in many other clubs in Europe for example. The security is on the ball, the crowd and the music are like no where else in this city Ive been to. Where to start? I bloody loooove this place, it's brilliant. Coming from Europe I was initially a little bit disappointed with the clubs in SF (basically they're just really loud and expensive with average music). Not Halcyon :D I've literally never had a less-than-excellent night here; the door staff are lovely and friendly, they have some great acts up on stage and the music always seems to be just right. It really gets me in the best mood and the atmosphere seems to be just right. I've been to see a few bigger names here but the more unknown DJs they have seem to be really quality. Bar prices are reasonable for SF, it's always busy but not too packed. Fine if you're in a big group or just in a pair. Love it. read more

Halcyon very quickly became one of my favorite clubs soon after they opened. It's a fresh change from the glitzy, Vegas-y clubs that you usually see. The focus is on the music, and it sounds spectacular in there. The single-room club has an underground warehouse feel. The crowd is usually pretty friendly, since most are there for the music, too. And I gotta appreciate the all-female management team. We need more clubs like that. They pull great underground talent, and if you prefer dark techno and house over popular EDM, then this is the place for you. read more

I love you Gina, but the security you have now is TRASH. It wasn't even 2am AND he was taking my drink. I gave it to him and HE lied to the bartender saying I splashed it in his face when he splashed it in mines. I've been going here for years... and I've been to MANY other parties and club's and I've NEVER had any issue with a security person and/or drinks.. I'm thankful she let me back in but I'm hurt but this experience.... It wasn't even 2am. read more

I've been to Halcyon a half dozen times, most recently to see Charlotte De Witte. First of all, having seen Charlotte De Witte at Public Works and listening to her extensively, I can tell you the sound system at Halcyon is not calibrated correctly. The bass is over blown and distorts the music, to the point that it was disappointing. The venue itself has a decent layout and the bars/coatcheck/bathrooms/bouncers are all fine, no bad experience. My review would normally be 2-3 stars, but this is a f**king nightclub designed for EDM music.. how can you have such a poorly calibrated sound system??? Hence the 1-star review. In my opinion, Monarch, Audio SF, and Public Works, all have much better sound systems (at least better calibrated). read more

I was thoroughly impressed with Halcyon when I came here. It was a few weeks ago for the Will Clarke show. The venue is pretty big and the sound system is FANTASTIC. You can really feel the bass and everything sounds crisp and clear. The lighting they have behind the DJ booth is really cool as well. Further, the A/C system they have in there is top notch. I came in wearing two layers and never needed to take them off since it was so cold. Drinks are club drink prices which are a bit pricey, but overall this place is great! read more

I had one great experience at Halcyon recently, and for that I'm giving it a tentative four stars. Great DJ's, spinning some up-to-date beats that ran from house to techno. The sound system is decent -- I'm not sure why it's gotten so many bad reviews here. Perhaps they've improved it, or worked out the noise complaint from their neighbors. Drinks were decent for a nightclub, and reasonably priced. Although there was a bit more of a Marina vibe than I'm used to, the crowd was perfectly pleasant and the venue was certainly not oversold. There's a laughable roped-off VIP area behind the DJ podium, admittedly, but otherwise this place is relatively no-frills, in the best way. It really reminded me of some of the smaller clubs in SF (like Liquid) from about 15 years ago. I'm not sure where the accusations of transphobia come from. I'm gender queer, and walked over from Oasis in full drag. The bouncers, bar staff, and crowd were nothing but friendly and professional to me. But that's just one person's experience. read more

I go out a lot and there are a lot of great underground clubs out there. 11th street has become kind of a cultural heart of San Francisco in it's own right. Tons of unique options now with more to come! Halcyon is the perfect addition to the 11th street vibe that gives folks who are really passionate about the DJs to hear quality dance music and she really compliments Audio on a Friday and Saturday night, whose nights are typically a bit more mainstream nowadays but still enjoyable. It's great to hop between both clubs to broaden your night life experience. A few folks complain about the sound system. If you're going to Halcyon you might already be spoiled by Audio's Funktion one system, but the pioneer system at Halcyon hits pretty hard too! Halcyon has a 24 hour license tho so it builds energy as the night goes on into the early mornings. Try and enjoy the music instead of just getting your ears blasted. Let it take you on a journey! For those who know, Halcyon has some of the best bookings right now and it's helping push SF in the right direction. The music scene has exploded here and every weekend is a hand wringing debate on where we're going. Can always count on a good time here. read more

I went for the second time recently. Hated the first time and equally hated this time. All the reviews about the sound system is correct. The sound system gets one star - low frequency bass non-existent, mids are muffled, and the highs lacked clarity. Impossible to be engrossed by the music with it. Volume level takes a dive as the night progressed. I left at 1:30 am to find a better club but came back at 2:30 am and the volume was noticeably lower. But even when the music was cranked up around 1 am, the sound didn't fill the room as it should. I also find the lights on the ceiling a little tacky. I do like how the dj booth is slightly elevated though, but any higher it would be awkward. I think the technology set up at the dj booth isn't very good. Both times I went, there were issues with getting the dj setup while they were already djing. Professional clubs should be able to transition djs seamlessly; there shouldn't be any rewiring while the dj is already playing. When i came to see Dubfire the first time, the audio techie was literally snooping around in the back of the mixer with his flashlight for the first hour. The sound kept cracking. Dubfire was peeved and it was apparent. Really loud and annoying fog machine in the back kept going off every 5 minutes 3 feet above my head which competed against the music and killed any vibe. Then the machines started misfiring liquid onto everyone's head with a loud noise making the place smell like chemicals. The crowd situation sucks too. Literally every place you stand you will be a victim of the people train. Really hard to make it to the bar. Crowd overflows into the small restroom area in the back. But they do allow in and outs which is good. This place manages to book really good djs. I don't mind paying $50 for a ticket like I did this last time but there's just some very basic things this club doesn't get right. read more

I wasn't a big fan of my experience here. It's just one big room that feels like someone put down a foundation and roof between two better cooler buildings. Went up to the bar where staff was less than friendly and paid $5 for a bottled water. It was one of those Voss bottles, but who are we kidding? It's just an excuse for the club to rip people off. I have to update my 2017 Halcyon review because of my awesome experiences at this venue over the last two years. Halcyon continues to surprise me every few months with KILLER lineups. Their selection of DJs playing is bar none to anything else in San Francisco. If a more popular DJ is playing, the crowd is sometimes challenging and fratty, but most often, they're accommodating and actually dance. I never came to this club before when it was Beatbox. I came here for Dubfire & Joseph Capriati night that went on til 8am. I love the warehouse vibe this place has as well as the lighting along the ceilings and projection mapping they have here. It looks like they're making it like the clubs in Europe like the Gashouder. This place is definitely bringing great talent from around the world. This might by one of my favorites next to public works. Great atmosphere and vibes for techno. Sf is definitely lacking clubs like this, comparing to Vegas, Miami, LA and Europe. *** My main complaint though is that it is hot af in here. They need better air ventilation as well as sound system. They also need to stop overselling or overcrowding the club like sardines because everytime I stepped out, even at 230am, they still were selling tickets and the line was long. There was already more than enough people in there. It was uncomfortable to move from one end of the room to another, or even dance comfortably. Very dangerous. FIRE HAZARD for sure. I still would come back though but these conditions need to improve. read more

I just want to comment on besides halcyon being a great venue and always great with their sound there's a particular person I want to compliment on/feedback her name is Rhia Shumway she was so sweet to me and my bf after having an issue with our tickets with resident advisor she helped us out in every way possible with an amazing attitude, that right there alone is great customer service and just being a good person to us in general, some people who work at clubs can be just rude and awful when it comes to issues with tickets, and that wasn't the case here with Halycon. Great small club with a warehouse vibe. Lighting and sound was so good. But Im glad I brought my ear plugs. It was 110 decibels.

Tonight (Aug 31, 2018) at the Dirty South show a female employee, Marecia, inappropriately grabbed me three times. During two of the three experiences she grabbed me from behind and startled me. I was dancing during the experiences. I have performed dancing in the Bay Area several times and have never experienced this level of aggression nor felt so violated. It was a horrible experience. I have been going to this club for a while now and still out of all the clubs in San Francisco Halcyon tops it off. The security here are not like other securities in those clubs like they don't care about you, talked to them and you will know they are really nice. Sound system + Dolby atmos what a good combo went here for a couple shows with the DJs x Dolby Atmos I don't even need my earplugs anymore the sound is just so crisp. Met the owner Gina and Rhia they are just the most nicest people that I met. Crowds at halcyon are usually welcoming mostly there for the music don't sleep on tickets they are usually cheap $5-15 early birds if you don't get tickets early you snooze you lose. I never write reviews for clubs but Halcyon deserves it. Another thing is if you're looking for a Techno, Trance, House club then this is your club! read more

Came here to see CID and it was definitely an awesome experience. Everything from the entry into the club to the layout of the floor was great. Even though it is on the smaller side of clubs, the vibes are totally awesome. I really enjoy that they have some seating available around the dance floor. The sound system was also dope. If you want to splurge and get a table, the VIP area is pretty sick and allows for you to be behind the DJ. Overall, if there's an artist that I enjoy and they're playing here then I'll definitely make the effort to get here. read more

Halcyon is killing it in the house DJ scene, I can't say the same about their sound system they purchased from WalMart. I completely concur with the consistent reviews, where's the bass???? I bought tix to see Peggy Gou. I walked in to this sexy space and was mortified. Surrounded by techies chatting and texting. No one was dancing. The music was faint. The bass line was non-existent. After fifteen minutes, I ditched. I didn't want my money back, just my fifteen minutes! This place should be voted number 1 for the worst sound system in San Francisco! Too my fellow house heads, keep it real at Monarch and Public Works where the sound system is King! read more

Been here twice most recently for Boris Brejcha. First of all I feel so incredibly lucky to see Boris in such a small intimate environment especially compared to the other clubs he performed at here in the states. He put on a phenomenal show and the opening act was equally amazing. It was crowded af but the crowd was pretty freakin awesome and there was minimal pushing and shoving unlike Top 40 or Hip hop clubs. There wasn't too much room to really dance but I managed to get after it that night. Drinks were easy to come by, not too much waiting and prices were average for SF ($12 for a top shelf vodka drink and $7 for a beer). In/out privileges are allowed which was great due to the intense heat in the club even WITH the a/c on. My only complaint was that the bathrooms were not attended to much towards the end of the night and they smelled. Overall I love the music and vibe at this club and I will continue to come back. read more
