Why do so many places avoid investing in what is actually important to a club - the sound system. Another disappointment in SF. Avoid.

I am obsessed with this place and it's like my second home on the weekend as I'm a regular! This is the only venue in SF that truly books a unique lineup of solid, underground music. Many top tier producers have played their first shows at Halcyon and have absolutely loved it. The bar is great with friendly bartenders and quick service. Drink prices are really reasonable. I also love the high ceilings and the fact that it never gets too hot in there even for a sold out show. Great owner and bar manager who really take care of their guests and make each night really special. I am appalled at these negative/bashing reviews because this is such a wonderful place with a great staff and awesome energy. I bought a ticket to the venue on Ticketfly once, and now I regularly receive text spam on my cell. I didn't subscribe for anything at the event, and the only way my phone could be leaked is from Ticketfly. I reported them to FTC, but this case shows. Everything about this club is fake. They promote their events as going till 6am, and, of course, they kick everyone out at 4am. Their personnel is rude, and they hire dancers that are clearly picked by how they look, not how well they dance. The only good thing about the venue is their music choices. Bottom line if you like top notch entertainment in an intimate setting this is the club for you ! They have Amazing VIP service and strive to keep you happy ! The ladies that run this place are elite to say the least! It's spacious, drink prices are comparable. The crowd changes depending on who they have showing but it's always off the hook ! can't expect anything good from 11th street and Folsom. this new club is plagued by the poor vibe that all clubs on this street have. it's douchey. average drinks, bad layout and disrespectful crowd. This club is par for the course. The bathroom situation is hilarious. 300 capacity, women's bathroom has 3 stalls. The door swings into the stall, allowing only 1 inch between the swing door and the edge of the toilet seat. No actual human can use these toilets without trying to hobble over the toilet. One of the stalls has a toilet that is installed crookedly off to the side, almost as if it's scared and has witnessed a 1,000 horrors. I couldn't hold back and started laughing when I opened that stall. read more

Halcyon is a much needed club in SF, a city known for lacking in night life and good night clubs. The DJ's they bring in are the best DJ's from around the world. The layout, alcohol selection, and fellow patrons all make it comparable to a hot new club in NYC or LA, where good clubs are more common. read more

It smells like vomit. And if you tell the staff, they will simply say it's old vomit and they can't get rid of the smell. Ask anyone whose been in the last three weekends. I love the place for the sound quality and they bring amazing acts and I like to stay until the very end but I can't sit through another night of vomit smells. Might start a petition for people to boycott the place until they spray every corner, sanitize every air vent, to get rid of the vomit smell. Having heard a great deal about the new club in town I was itching to find out for myself, when Lee Burridge announced a post New Years party I snapped up a ticket and managed a short weekday visit that ended quickly as I was way to knackered. It took a few weeks for the club to show up on my radar again, stories of a line around the block to see Lee Floss, followed by a stream of photos on FB of house head friends really meaning it for a 6am Doc Martin party that really caught my attention. So this past weekend I got was really excited to hear that Luigi Madonna would be playing late into the morning. When I got into Halcyon (about 2AM) I was a bit disappointed. The sound appeared to have been lowered considerably, almost as if the whole bottom end had been taken out due to noise complaints, was this the case? I'm not sure! Either way, listening to techno on a system that has no bass is pretty boring! The crowd was great for the time I was there, it looked like a clued up techno crowd that were ready to absorb some music, I would have to say that there was a tipping point when the dance floor started to empty out and most of the patrons in the club were behind the DJ booth, at this point we left to go to the Endup! I have high hopes for the Halcyon, I hope they get some good sound in there and beef up the bottom end! I hope they don;t have noise restriction problems, otherwise, what's the point? The security were really nice, the bartenders were cool too, and the coat check lady was very, very sweet, I have seen and missed a bunch of good DJ's that have appeared on their page recently and I'm sure there will be more, let's hope the club evolves well over the next year! Very negative vibe here. Staff seemed rather rude and the clientele were shady and unfriendly. Also, as another yelper commented - people were packed in like sardines creating a fire hazard. Sound system is also pretty poor. If I could give 0 stars I would, but the DJ on the bill is one of my favorites, so 1 star it is! Will not return to this club anytime soon. read more

I went there to listen to Crystal Method on New Year's even. I enjoyed the sound system and the stage lights, but the fog machine was the worst. I came out of the place with a hoarse voice. Days later my throat still hurts from the machine. The bathroom stayed fairly clean and stocked through the night and the coat check clerk was friendly. The bartenders were not as friendly. I have had better bartenders at other clubs. The bouncers were also rude when leaving the club. Overall my experience was ok. I wouldn't rate them as a top club. If the bouncers and bartenders were nicer this would be a stellar spot! read more

Went to see Doc Martin @6AM so it was not too crowded- AND after looking at some of the other reviews and how crowded it gets maybe going to the 6AM party is where its at!!!! It's dark, light show great, Dj awesome ,super cute dancers everywhere & a perfect amount of seating. Bartenders polite and slow. read more

"We dont recommend erd party tickets, we wants all the profits. Use ticketfly, our 3rd arty place. We keep secret guest lost tickets there where it says in font 3 on your mobile device shows up for a 6 hour night." This is the smallest pretentious club, no dpace to move, drinks are weak, line took 3p minutes to get in even with tickets. Bathrooms are disgusting for whats sulposed to be a higher end club. The lights inside are terrible, the stage manager does the best they can with the 5$led they just threw up there. Any main act does not go on until 1:30. Whoever they get before are terrible. There is the least amount of dancing ive seen at any club. There is no security indoors to kick out drunk chicks who fell and knocked people over who almost half the club saw. read more

I've been here on almost a weekly basis since they opened on a Sunday, and that's because Halcyon's consistently the best EDM venue south of Market St SF that I've found. Cool air near the stage and mostly house EDM in tandem with awesome crowds? Count me in. I came here last night for the pre-opening Halloween event for WeWorks. With the concept of it being an open bar, I coughed up the pricey tickets to get in. It being a new venue, security was very careful about carding and stamp checks. After arriving and standing in line at around 11, I entered Halcyon. I was immediately hit with a gust of hot, humid air. It was a rainy cold night, so the difference was apparent. There were so many people that barely anyone could move. The space was extremely small with a giant elevated "dance stand" that took up the middle of the dance floor for professionally hired dancers. There was one stand alone fan on above the bar and everyone was hot and sweaty. Even standing in line for a drink was causing people to sweat... and not just a little sweat, but buckets. People were drenched, it was so humid, and so many began to shed their costumes. Face makeup was oozing, and no one was able to dance in the cramped space. The DJ, which I'm not sure was part of the venue or brought in by weworks, was horrible. Barely anyone was dancing, and people were standing around aimlessly swaying to outdated music and slowed down versions of hits. The elevated dance stage had two shift dancers. They danced for 5 minutes and left for long periods of time. No one was even paying attention to them since they were probably more focused on not fainting from dehydration. The elevated dance stage took up so much space people didn't know where to dance or stand. The bar was so packed that you couldn't even approach to get water. Perhaps a small area for water would have been ideal in a situation like this especially if you know that you have no AC and horrible air circulation. Within 10 minutes of being there, I wanted to leave. Many had the same idea as hoards of costumed people escaped the underworld conditions of Halcyon. With the tickets being oversold, too many people, extremely small space, bad music, death like heat and horrible air circulation, I would not recommend this place to anyone once it officially opens. If they fix this and their faulty light system ( lights fully on, off, on, flashing, etc), then go for it. read more

Fav. Club. In. San Francisco. HANDS DOWN! Nightlife gurus Gina and Rhia know what the hell they're doing and club goers should be thankful. The sound system blows other clubs away and they're bringing in some badass underground DJs that will soon be local and international favs. Not to mention top names like Anthony Attalla, Cocoon, and Sharam. The drinks are stiff and tasty and their on-draft cocktails and wine help the lines at the bar go quicker. Their (go-go) dancers are fun to watch and add that Vegas/Europe element so many SF clubs are attempting but failing at. The lighting really helps create a bitchin' ambiance. Door dudes are chill but get shit done. They have coat check! Haven't had bottle service ... yet ... but the table locations are epic: elevated from the (large) dance floor, right next to the DJs. Yes please. And more than just vodka and tequila options. All in all - they kick ass. And they're barely a month old so I can only imagine what is still up their sleeve. Can't wait! read more

I recently stepped into the newly renovated club/ bar that was once beatbox. I had frequented the previous establishment countless times and so I was pleasantly surprised at how well this new theme worked out. The venue was familiar, but the interior decorations and what not give the joint a whole new feel. The club plays old school music, back when music was soulful and jamming, so that's a huge plus and standout compared to the clubs nowadays bumping young thug and what not. The alcohol selection is wonderful! Being a bartender myself, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that all of their liquor was premium; none of that generic royal gate stuff that causes massive hangovers. I certainly plan to visit again in the near future and see what further developments arise from this up and coming night club. Being so new and in such a popular area, I can bet that the club will only improve with time; they have imported go-go dancers! read more

Hands down one of the best clubs that San Francisco has to offer. They have an amazing pioneer sound system that is perfectly tuned to have crystal clear highs and lows. If you are into underground dance music with a laid back atmosphere and world class talent, come here. read more

We did and got in line before 11. The ticket was supposed to be free since we rsvped. When we were almost at the door, they security guy was gonna charge us $20 because apparently by the time we got to the door it was past 11. Not a good experience. Bye. read more

Good music. Good people. Good times. The sound system is amazing and doesn't rattle your brains or leave you feeling nauseous. It's also nice to have an after hours option in SF that isn't a seedy hole in the wall... I hate to do this to them, but I have to otherwise how will they improve, that is, if they are willing? The sound here sucks. Really bad. Like 1972 transistor radio bad. Brick walls for a dance club are a death sentence. Unless you are right in the middle up front, the sound is so bouncy and too much echo. It's awful. There's about 10 sq. m in the club where the sound is decent. First rule of dance club - have kick ass sound. Second rule of dance club - have good, friendly security and staff. Fail again. Not much more to be added to that. Third rule of dance club - have clean, relatively easy access bathrooms. Fail again. The club is also ridiculously packed, charges way too much if you pay at the door and the has no flow of movement. The other complaint is that the crowd they attract is still bridge and tunnel EDM kids that frequent the 11th st. corridor. They book great acts, but that's not a positive because won't go see them there because it's not a fun experience. So essentially they are taking away an SF gig from a great DJ at one of the better cooler, less douchey clubs. What's the use of seeing a favorite music act if you can't hear them? read more

I went to Halcyon this past weekend on Friday night and I could not have been more disappointed. My bf and I are frequent club goers in SF and we wanted to give the place a second try (we went when it first opened). Essentially I paid 30 for a ticket online, WHICH LATER ON SOLD out online, to be squished and shoved around for the 45 minutes that I could stand being there. When we arrived there were two lines of entrance. I was confused considering it sold out so I asked what the lines were for. They were BOTH for people who already had tickets and for people who still needed to buy them. It made no sense. There were a ton of people waiting in line to buy expensive tickets at the door so I already had a bad feeling it was going to be over crowded. Well, I was right. When I walked in there was immediately no room to move around. It was almost a joke to try and get a drink. Dancing was close to impossible which is sad considering it's the only reason I wanted to go. No one wants to be squished like sardines in a dance club. Everyone was smoking and there was a huge cloud of fog everywhere. I guess that's what happens when there is almost no security. I will conclude with a statement about safety regulations. On the wall I noticed it was a 299 person occupancy. There is no chance they were under that number. On the upper floor I looked down to try and calculate about how many people were there and it looked WELL over that number. It's a huge safety concern of mine as it should be for everyone considering everything that has been happening in recent events. read more
