The photo here was taken from their little loft area, which is actually really cute and a great spot for people watching since you can see the whole bar and crowd from above. One thing I wasn't sure about was the plastic cups. Every time I've gone they've served drinks in plastic cups, but since it's so busy during First Thursdays, I'm not sure if that's their normal setup or just something they do to keep things moving during the event. I ordered a rosé, which was perfectly fine and easy to drink while walking around.

Walking in was also a neat experience that felt like we were stepping out of the city into a tiny pub. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.

East Brother Beer is brewed locally in Richmond. As someone who has maybe overdone it with hazy IPAs lately, it's refreshing to try their excellent pilsners and lagers. They also have other styles, but I really do like the pilsners here, something I don't normally say. There's a large interior with games and TVs, and there's also a patio facing the MLK, Jr. fountain. The restroom is the same one used by the Metreon food court. No food, but there are plenty of options just steps away. Support local! Give Rec Room a visit!

He also told me I was right on time for the saber champagne presentation -more on that in a sec. For drinks, I ordered the Hibiscus Spice and the Paradise cocktail. Both were super fruity and delicious! I had a great time sipping on this while chatting it up with a few folks at the bar. To nibble, I can never say no to ahi tuna tartare and this one was great! The most interesting little wafers, ahi tuna with some avocado cream and a little spicy sauce. I absolutely devoured these! So good! Now for the best part, the champagne presentation! A gentleman gave a little info session on on how this process is done and at the end he took a giant to a bottle of champagne to open it. Really Cool! What made this even better was that everyone at the bar got to snag a complimentary glass. What a treat! Super cute little hour of so sitting at the bar at the St. Regis. It was useful for reducing some of the unwanted background noise while keeping the main audio more understandable. Overall, a really fun venue if you're there for the music rather than trying to capture perfect recordings on your phone.

The show started at 7pm, however, we did not arrive until after 10pm. The location is ideal, with quick access from the freeway and plenty of street parking. Check in was smooth and simple - scan a QR code and show your ID to enter. The warehouse space boasts multiple bars, a large central dance space, and a few side areas to sit or lay your coat while you dance. The sound system and lights are on par with expectations, and overall, it's a very comfortable venue.

I mean, it's a building with a roof and not much more going on than that. Pretty grubby. The bartender - throughout the night - including during the sets - was throwing beer bottles into the recycling bin. It was jarring for everyone at the bar. The sound system had to be rebooted before the set to get something working. The musicians had a sound issue on stage (some buzzing) and partway through, and asked the sound person if they could do something about it. The sound person had the AUDACITY to snap back (to the musicians) "is there anything YOU can do about it?" and not in a collaborative tone. This is appalling. Your job as the sound person is to say "let me see what I can do" and figure it out. Several songs later, the sound person went on stage, changed something on an amplifier, and seemingly fixed the problem. How about doing that WITHOUT getting snarky with the performers? The stage lights were erratic at best and several times during the set they went out completely for a second or two - not in an artistic way. The ruined upright piano covered in dust, right next to the stage, really capped it off. All in all, a dreadful venue. At least the drinks were cheap.
