One of my favorite, if not, the favorite club to hang out and enjoy high fidelity music. It's the only club in the city to feature DOLBY ATMOS. The best sound system you can listen to!! Crowd is typically nice, bartenders are chill, although they don't offer free water (would be nice if they did), but hey, tickets to Halcyon are dirt cheap compared to Midway or 1015 so I can't complain. read more

Terrible experience, rude staff. Long time SF resident, go to shows all the time at other venues and never experienced anything like this. Came here for the first time, go through security with empty reusable water bottle per usual, no issues there... go to the water station and a bar tender (who I understand to be a 'manager'), grabs my reusable bottle and THROWS IT IN THE TRASH. Tells me no club in SF allows outside water containers, that I should know, and will NOT get it back. Wtf? I go to shows all the time with a reusable bottle and never experienced this (Midway, 1015, etc. etc.)... even so, wouldn't have been an issue if you just communicate your policies without berating your customers and destroying the planet. I immediately left despite having paid for a show I wanted to see. I'll stick to the many other venues that treat their customers with love. ***Thanks to the kind bartender who saw their 'manager' behaving like a child and gave me my bottle back as I was leaving. read more

Club is nice and usually has good music/crowd. Only problem is as someone who goes to a lot of clubs throughout California, this is the only place I've had a hard time getting water from. Usually bartenders are happy to give water for free but it seems this place would rather make a few extra bucks than take care of its customers. It wouldn't bother me so much if the artists that played here were really good but they're not. Better going to another club in the area with better music, bigger dancefloor, and doesn't mind keeping their guests hydrated. Crowd is filled with weirdos. First time going and will not recommend to go back so much unnecessary touching & groping when there was so much space in between times where men just wanted to sexually harass us and touch us for no reason passing by. Also while in the women's restroom a person was trying to open the door on me next thing we know someone goes in after, didn't see who ,but we notice a man coming out THE womens stall. Another thing men are just creepy staring into womens restroom just be very alert. So much creeps and weird unwanted harassment should have listened to reviews. Great place just be aware of certain nights where the DJ is free for a discounted price before a certain time. Venue to view. Definitely small club feel with the decor and seating area arranged around the dance floor. Drinks were great, lightly mixed, for your dancing pleasure (your not there to drink, your there to dance). Staff was friendly and quick to serve. Sam Devine/DJ (concert series) did an incredible job mixing up that old school jam with a new age feel. Everyone should try it (never to old to dance. I've been to Halcyon three times and the first two visits were excellent. They do a great job of talent buying, bringing in folks who are huge in the house scene. For example, Pete Tong played the second to last time I was there. Because of how popular the headliners are, I strongly recommend buying tickets in advance. Main floor gets very crowded, do your best to explore around for a good spot. My last visit, unfortunately, didn't leave the best taste in my mouth. The entrance process is in serious need of reformatting. It took way too long to get in the venue, even with pre-purchased tickets. The bouncers were very terse and mean to people asking them questions. Full groups of people were cutting the line with zero consequences. It was way too disorganized for a seasoned venue like Halcyon. They seriously need to give their bouncers scanners instead of forcing everyone to queue up for the box office. It would make things a lot faster and a lot easier for everyone involved. Inside, I was further mistreated by the staff. The last time I was at Halcyon, I was able to order drinks on the end of the bar with no problem. This time around, the bartender I had served two people standing beside me and then told me I needed to go around to the front of the bar to order. Zero explanation, just yells in my face and walks away. The folks next to me offered to order my drink for me because they were equally flabbergasted by his attitude. If you can't order drinks from the end of the bar, please put a sign there. I then went into VIP and sat at a table. There were Easter eggs scattered about because it was the day before Easter. I picked up an egg, opened it, and found it was filled with candy. Excited, I grabbed another egg. Immediately, the bouncer in VIP *slapped* it out of my hand like I was stealing it. "You already got one", he growled. I was absolutely stunned, it was so unnecessary and uncomfortable. Thankfully, I still had a good time despite these interactions. I love this club so much! The staff are always so welcoming, Teresa who helps with the door is one of the funniest most honest people I've come across in the club scene, love her energy and enthusiasm every time I come here. Halcyon doesn't feel like every other club in the city, it's intimate and the dis they book here are some of the best in the underground scene. You honestly feel like you've been transported to an underground club in Europe as soon as you walk through the door. Also the business is female run and the crowd is always very diverse, you can tell the people that come to this club are here for the music. read more

Halcyon is one of my favorite venues due to the sound system and talented DJ's. Halcyon hosts some of the best electro / house artists. For the popular artists, you'll want to get tickets way in advance, as they will sell out. The sound hits heavy but is still crisp. Once you experience it, you'll know what I mean. The venue is a bit small and barebones compared to other venues, but it makes up for it with better music and crowds. The bartenders were also friendly and quick. I'll be back for sure! read more

Fun place for some late night techno bass dancing. I've only been here after raves at Bill Graham and it has not disappointed me yet.

Worst club I've ever been to hands down. The staff including the cashier, bartenders, and security are all super rude. Besides the staff being rude it's just a creepy club overall and I felt unsafe being there so I left early. There was a lot of creepy dudes. My friend got groped by one of these guys and told security about it but they didn't do anything at all. There's a bunch of other clubs around this one. Just go to those instead. read more

I really enjoy coming to this night club. I always feel like I am transported to a European Dicotech. The friendly security guard always greets me with a hug and a smile. I use this club as a safe space for me and my friends. It's rare to find a female owned night club and it shows. Thier talent is always top notch. No other night club in SF with a sound like theirs. The space isn't very large and it doesn't feel like it has a lot of ventilation to have a smoke machine going off what feels like every 5 minutes. Feels like your smoking a carton of cigarettes. I get the sensory experience, but the smoke machine makes for a horrible experience. Just the smell alone from the smoke machine was making me sick. read more

First timer and Awesome... I thought the sound system was top notch, and I loved the whole vibe of the place - big dark room with well position lighting and seating. I've been to many venues, and their sound system is crisp... They also have an upstairs VIP area with bathroom. Nice touch. The bartenders are a little slow but not rude. They need faster/precision bartenders for busier nights. I'm a part time food server that enjoys the nightlife, so I've worked and seen them. They are an after hours venue, 4am. I'm good at 1:30am, and ready for my Lyft, but I've done it. Also, I overheard that they may open at 11am for special events. Hmmm. I enjoy gossiping with the security. The short doorman with the dreadlocks is a real piece of work. I have an encountered security I like that since the dark ages of the 90s. Like some sort of wannabe cop. Just having a VIP table attracts Douchy guys and ruins any possibility of underground love and unity. If you like electronic music/ house/ techno, then this is the best club for you! Halcyon has a tremendous sound system and the rumble from all the bass is seriously an epic experience when you first walk in. Many of the DJ's I have seen here really know how to put on a good show, and I usually don't leave until my entire body is sore from dancing. Its a cozy little club, not too big or overwhelming like some of the larger venues out there. However, with the awesome sound quality and the bright, hypnotizing light fixtures, you get your bang for your buck! Out of all the clubs I've been to, Halcyon has a great community that feels most authentic to rave culture. Sometimes I'll come dressed in full rave gear and I feel right at home. It is filled with friendly people who care about the music. This is what I really appreciate! Some other clubs I've been to have a strict dress code and very aggressive environment. Not Halcyon. Every time I go to Halcyon its always good vibes. The club stays open pretty late. Sometimes the line for security is fast, other times it is very slow. One time my friend and I waited almost an hour to get inside. I guess it depends which DJ is playing for that night. But as soon as we got in, it was totally worth it. Dance floor is a little small for my taste, but that's okay. There's some nice leather couches too. When it gets too crowded, you can sit down, chill and enjoy the show. Oh, and maybe consider bringing some sunglasses with you. The stage lights are very bright and flash wildly. Sometimes it is cool, but sometimes it is very disorienting. The line woman who is always there outside is absolutely horrendous. Every time I've visited, she was incredibly rude to either me or others there. I've witnessed her screaming at patrons that they're drunk, rudely telling me I've entered the wrong way of the line and forcing me to exit even though there was no one in line at all, and threatening to not let people in. She is extremely unpleasant, unprofessional, and makes everyone uncomfortable. Solely because of her behavior I refuse to come back. read more

There is a phone theft ring that frequents this place and DNA lounge. The level of pickpocketing is at the professional level. You will have your phone stolen within 20 minutes of entering here. Please be forewarned. They will steal your phone, immediately turn it off and then go up to the Oakland area to sell the parts to some middleman. Filed a police report and I will never be coming back again. I am also disappointed that management is aware of theft ring in this area and does not forewarn people. read more

As much as I'm a huge supporter of female entrepreneurs, I was extremely disappointed by my table service experience at Halycon! I was hosting a group of female entrepreneurs after a conference and wanted to share the beauty of SF. Ending the evening with a club owned by women and with DJ Charlotte de Witte! The only good part was we had a nice table on stage next to the DJ (fantastic location) Here is where it went south: -bottle service never came back to check on us. Just dropped off our dom and 1942 and we had to wave her back a few times to order more. - the stage was overcrowded by guests of Gina (owner of the club). Her guests was at our table drinking our liquor. When we asked about giving us our space back she told us to "fuck off! I'm the owner" - the owner screamed at my other guest to move cause he's dancing in her spot and continue to scream "fuck you im the owner" -after spending $5k, we couldn't enjoy our drinks and dance cause our space was taken over by the owner's guests! Gina, I hope you were high or something when you did that to me and my guests. Talk about setting us (women) back a few decades with your behavior. We are all supporters of each other and WAS a fan of your accomplishment until we saw the ugly side of your success. We didn't deserve that from you. No one should ever deserve that from you. If anyone REALLY needs to go to Halycon, please only deal Ryea. She is absolutely amazing and I'm very sorry to affiliate this rating with her. This rating is no reflection on her. I owe it to Halcyon to come by and update this review after a few years. There is a long gap of attendance between today and when I first stopped in back in 2017, and it's clear that Halcyon has improved dramatically between then and now. My main issues with the venue boiled down to sound and logistical problems with entry (The bathroom, coat check, and entrance/exit were all smashed together), and all of these issues have been mitigated. The sound is significantly better - I'm that asshole who complains about the most minor of detail in sound (the highs are too high, that kick isn't punchy, someone needs to turn the treble down, etc; I'm completely unfun to go to the club with) and the new-ish Dolby Atmos system is well-tuned. It doesn't hit like some of the other systems in the city (I still believe the best system is three-way tie) but it does the job. It's a moody place to catch some music, and most importantly, it is one of the few legal venues remaining in the Bay Area that can stay open past 4am, and they are more than happy to let DJs stretch their legs when it's appropriate; they've let Danny Tenaglia play through until 10am+ before, and happily opened that bar back up at 6 to accomodate the 25 of us still holding on for dear life. Kudos to Halcyon. They are one of the few legal remaining places to dance beyond 4am. read more
