Half 8 is a one month pop-up restaurant, a table d'hôte that is named after the time dinner is served - yes, at 19:30. Although never sharp - the chef confessed last Saturday that so far, they had not once started dinner service at that time.
What can I say? I had a lovely evening. The food was good. Especially if you consider the price that it is served at: € 30 for a 4-course dinner and € 17,50 for the wine arrangement. Water is free.
We were started of with a vegetable plate, named after the restaurant's vegetable supplier and made of whatever he has to offer that specific week. Nice, taste, but I was not blown away. Second course: steak tartar - made the right way! Good stuff. Third course: hake ans shrimp risotto. Lovely! Desert: something sweet, but I forgot. Oops!
Plus:
- nice staff
- good food at great prices
- nice buzz
- if you're lucky, you have nice people at your table
- allergies and dislikes are taken into account
Cons:
- not a lot of privacy: you are likely to share your table with 4 other people. There is some space in between each couple, but do not go here if you want to have a private word with your better half.
- food is good - but not great. Although it is if you consider the price it is served at.
- no choices: you eat whatever the chef is preparing that week
Half 8 is only here until the end of May 2014 - so make it your priority to go there. It'll be worth your while! read more
