Oysters served in plastic plates and salt
    Xue Z.

Worst meal in Amsterdam, what a shame for being a decent dining place! Me and my friend walked in and there were many empty spaces, the waitress said follow her and then rambled something that neither me and my friend understood, then we followed her to the kitchen, a waiter stopped us and asked her what was going on, she rambled something again and the waiter led us to a table. The food, after so many years I finally see the oyster platter served in a plastic plate with salt rather than metal plates with ice, also no lemon, only vinegar. The meat of the oyster looked like they were bullied in the oyster farm or they were leftovers, and I paid €26 on this. Still we finished it, and waited for our stake for long. The gentleman sitting next to us waited for 20 mins to simply get his check. So did we. We ordered a medium rare rib eye stake for two, not sure of the standard here but to my understanding this is called a sunburn, only 1/10 was cooked. The plates were cold as the weather. And the worst part, I can still feel the cow bleeding in my mouth, we managed to almost finish the dish, and soon the stake turned cold too. I understood how my ancestors hunting in the wild and what were they eating. By the way the only decent thing was the fries on the side. We paid €102 for this meal, regretting why we didn't get a refund.

My personal favorite was the scallops. It was perfectly cooked, very fresh and juicy on the inside. One of the best Cornish Hen I've ever had. Chicken was not dry at all. It was seasoned well and moist. The steak came with the sauce bearnaise on the side. It was an interesting combo. Every dish I had was great, recommend it for a visit if you are a fan of modern European food!! Overall: 9 / 10 Restaurant Red Amsterdam FOLLOW @kellysfoodblogs for more! #kellythefoodie #kellyinamsterdam

This is my third negative rating out of the 30+ reviews I've done. I go out of my way to try not to negatively reviews places, but the behavior by a staff member here was unfortunate enough for me to act. Now, perhaps I'm not accustomed to the culture in Amsterdam, but considering that it's a city that thrives from tourists from all over the world, I had assumed that open-mindedness wouldn't be out of the question. I had just landed from a great flight less than an hour ago. I did not change. I looked for a decent restaurant to have some steak on Yelp. Found Red. I came in wearing jeans and Jordan's (13 He Got Games- to be specific) as I saw no dress code. It took me over five minutes to be greeted. Mind you, this is a small restaurant where everyone can see everyone. The waitress who greeted me, I believe her name was Pascal (sp?), looked at me in confusion and asked, "Can I help you?" Lol. By the way, the couple that came in just after me received a nice, "May I take your coat?" I told her I wanted to eat. By paying for food. At this business at which she is employed. She hesitatingly nodded. Ten minutes later, she walked by me and I had to stop her and ask her for a menu. At this point, I'm already turned off with the place but then again, I'm hungry and want some steak and Malbec so... I ordered. There was another waitress that ended up helping me: Tanya (sp?) I believe was her name. She was very delightful. The food was fantastic. I had the Lobster Bisque soup to start, which was good. I had Tenderloin as my main course. It was wonderful.

It was a lovely restaurant. We made a reservation and came at 6pm but there was still one or two free tables there.(Who knows, maybe they were reserved). We both ordered surf n turf. Very nicely done. The service was good. Will recommend it to others who visited Amsterdam! 听说最好提前预定,我们预订了,六点钟来但是好像还有一两个空桌子。装修的环境很好。点了龙虾和牛排,味道不错,龙虾很新鲜,牛排半熟也刚刚好。

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.

It was very warm in the place, so keep that in mind if you're traveling in Amsterdam during a heat dome! We had a couple servers who worked with us nd both were kind and friendly. They didn't quite communicate with each other about our need to split the check a specific way, but it worked out in the end. We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had. The Favorite Ribs (24.50 Euro) were flavorful; the L'Incroyable 300gr (Ribeye; 34.50 Euro) was good, but our least favorite of what we ordered; the Le Cannibale Royale 170gr (burger) was super tasty. We also enjoyed some frites (4.90 Euro) and some delicious Mac n Cheese (6.50 Euros). Good time and good food!

We sat on the patio. Our server brought us complementary bread with butter while we read through the menu. I'm told my meal was authentic Dutch food, but it just seemed like a strange combination. The name slipped my mind, but it was a Power mashed potatoes with endive, but the meatball on top with brown gravy and then be beside that with some type of smoked sausage with a pile of mustard. I've always felt that whatever food you put on a plate should taste good together sausage with the mustard with the meat and the gravy and the mashed potatoes just seem disjointed to me. With that sad, I ate every drop of it and enjoyed it so maybe I learned something from this meal. ‍ My son took the alternative approach and ordered a meal with Indonesian flavors; chicken with peanut sauce was the main entrée and it came with french fries. He definitely enjoyed his meal as well. I'm glad we gave VS a try. It turned out to be a good meal of Dutch food and a touristy area with food from all over the world. I guess I'm old-fashioned because I just wanted wanted a taste of the local cuisine. Cheers!
