I would also like to praise this place for something I don't think other people have said.... clean bathrooms. I've had pleasant experiences at other Half Priced Books locations, however, I left this location this afternoon disappointed. The staff at the 'Sell Your Books Here' counter were inconsiderate and unprofessional. I was standing feet from the counter while they (a male and female employee) looked over my books and made rude comments suggesting that the dog training books I brought in were books on how to train a dog by beating it. I found these comments extremely ignorant and unnecessary. I wouldn't recommend selling here and hope that they further train their staff on professionalism. In the end, those also happened to be the books that they wanted to buy from me, ironic. read more

I had the best experience at Half Price Books in College Station today! Everyone was extremely kind and friendly. The manager was carrying boxes, but stopped what he was doing to quickly help me locate the book I asked for. Then he continued to help me pick books for my daughter, answering questions & making great suggestions. Later, he helped me locate another book, with the same level of efficiency and expertise. Another employee brought me a cart when my arms were full, then helped me locate a book & even went & pulled the book for me from another area of the store. Both of these men were very knowledgeable about what they had & where it was in their store, which can't be easy with the constant turnover in inventory there. My kids & I love this store, but after my great experience today, I am more impressed than ever!! I highly recommend visiting them! read more

This is a great size bookstore for the town and was impressed with the selection! I've been to a few in bigger cities that had less variety than they do! Always come here for any college books I can get here and I can always find a new gem in the romance section! Nice book store with OK prices. I compared a couple of books to Barnes and Nobles and they were really only $1-$2 less. If a book is not available in the store they can order a book for you from another location in Houston. There is no charge for this. I appreciated this service. There are a couple of chairs in the back near the clearance section if you desire to sit and read. read more

When I'm staying at my house in College-Station, I always have to come to Half Price Books, it's my favorite spot. Browsing for comics, books, or the cheapest computer games, Half Price is where its at. The only downside of this Half Price, having been to 4 different ones this month is the fact this has the highest prices over Rice Village, Corpus, Houston area. Which boggles me because this is a college town, I hope they don't try to scam college students into paying higher prices for books knowing they HAVE to buy them. Other than that, clean bathrooms, great comic-book selection, those however are not half-priced believe me when I say their comics are FULL-PRICED and on display for $200! I looked it up online and was going for $150 in better condition, so not sure where the half price went there, but ok. I love all the trinkets, toys, gizmo's they carry, and I'll always be back. read more

Bigger than the one in Lewisville, which is my hometown, but I don't feel like they have a lot more options, just more copies of the same thing. Went to sell a few textbooks to them, and four hardcover books. Was rather appalled that they only offered $10 for the books. While I may be coming back to visit with family and friends, I will no longer be selling to them when I can sell textbooks for $6-70 more on amazon or somewhere else. read more

I found several interesting books that were priced as I'd expect for HPB, but I was really disappointed with the lack of selection when it came to authors of color, particularly Black women authors. Despite a rather large sci-fi selection, literally nothing by Octavia Butler. The single bell hooks work that I found was in pretty rough shape, and priced rather high. Very small selection by Toni Morrison, which unfortunately didn't include any of the titles I was looking for, and all priced significantly higher than I would've expected for this store. I came in with a list of about 12 authors - all of whom were on reading lists from fairly prominent publications in the past few years - and found only 3 of them. At least they seemed to have a few of the current best sellers, like Michelle Alexander and (a single copy of) Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between the World and Me. read more

It's much larger than the half price books in Berkeley, CA which a lot more space in between shelves. The organization although is consistent, with fiction in the middle and non fiction in sections on the sides. The lighting however, is quite sharp and painful on the eyes. The clearance section was not very large and the books were not as cheap as in Berkeley (only $1 for clearance items) here, the clearance items are $3, with very few fiction options. I'd also have to agree with other Yelpers that the woman with the pierced nose is not very friendly and scary to approach because she looks so angry and unwilling to assist. There is a good amount of seating, a few plush chairs and carpet-ed sections around the children's area and the clearance section. read more

From Grisham to the lil fruit cake that wrote Harry Potter, this book barn got it all. From floor to ceiling, there ain't a shelf in sight that don't got some bargain books on it. Had me thinking I was in book heaven first time I walked in here. Positives - great books, most of the time good prices, $5.99 on older books (will still be in great condition), somewhat newer books will be priced around $12-13. Negatives - there isn't really a good nook you can sneak off wit ya boo and get it in like we used to in college, other than that, I think this is a great place! Solid 4 stars! read more

Half Price Books has reopened in College Station, next to Petsmart, in the former Circuit City. The new location is certainly larger with much higher ceilings, but it seems as if a bit of the funky atmosphere of the store did not survive the transition. Intense light and reflective floors make the shopping experience more like Target than a great bookstore. I really noticed this in the art section where it felt I was looking at a museum collection under a spotlight. In fact, I'd argue that the local Barnes and Noble actually has better ambiance. The good news is the books themselves are as varied as ever. In fact, it seems as if the shelves were transported intact, so I was able to find a somewhat obscure biography I had been meaning to pick up for a few months. Also, the buying section seems to be very busy, so we can look forward to plenty of interesting finds in the future. read more

Complete suck now that they've moved. First off, they only opened in half of the old Circuit City, meaning it isn't much larger than their old place. The selection seems to have shrunk dramatically. There's not the large atlas/map section there was, the Clearance section is easily half the size it was, the comic anthologies are no longer prominent, and the atmosphere has gone to crap. Add to that it's farther away than it used to be, located in far north College Station than the centralized place it was before. The prices are no longer decent. The Clearance is now around $3 instead of one dollar, there's no "old" things like there used to be (I once bought a huge HyperCard book for a dollar at the old store), and many items are NOT "half-price". A Rand McNally atlas with the Wal-Mart store locator was $10...the same price it was originally! While HP Books is pretty fantastic in other cities, College Station's is nothing more than a wasteland of what was once a good bookstore. read more

This business is a complete rip off. I'm a retired veteran who takes care of my elderly mother. Since the pandemic, I've had her living with me. She's an extremely avid reader, so rather than let her venture outside to bookstores I would order her new books off of Amazon. Since March I had ordered her well over 400 paperback books brand new from Amazon. It came to the point where we had so many books that we took them to Half Price Books to trade in for store credit. We brought about 100 books in this time and we stayed there for well over and hour why the processed them for credit. We thought that since the books average about $7 a piece...they would at least offer a fair trade for store credit. They offered to take 45 books and offered my elderly mother $10.56. I was floored. My mother took the credit without me being aware...they also tried to to take the books that they weren't going to offer store credit. My mother then proceeded to buy 8 books from them and they charged her $62.00. Really?!? Before I let her take the books, I placed a small initial on the same page within each book they had taken. When I went back the next day...I looked on the shelves and found the books they had taken from her...they were asking $4 - &6 for each. 2 books sold by them from my mother's collection they took would be the amount of money they gave her for trade. With all of the books they took and what they are selling them at...they stand to make a 1000% profit. I filed a complaint and customer service called me back 5 days later. They told me there was nothing wrong with the transaction and by them taking the books off my Mother's hands was doing here a courtesy. I'm utterly disgusted. Now you know how this business stays operating....they ripoff our elderly. My Mother is a timid and sweet elderly lady and would never think of speaking up for herself or to cause conflict. They took advantage of her and I'm sure thousands of others. As a veteran, I'm disgusted that I spent my life protecting a country that allows businesses like this to take advantage of its countries citizens. Please be aware of doing business here...and please make them aware that this is not the type of behavior American Citizens will tolerate. read more

I usually enjoy shopping at Half Priced Books stores in other locations. Not sure what's going on at the College Station location. The staff is weird, unprofessional and not helpful at all. I stood in line to ask for help since I couldn't find any assistance out on the floor. After looking through the store on my own, then standing in line to ask if they have a particular book, I was completely disappointed when I was told, If we have it, it will be in the "bird section." I didn't even see a "bird section" and I just went through the whole store. I was directed to the back of the store to look again on my own for the "bird section." I read every single sign & there was no "bird section." Discouraged, I walked back to the front & tackled someone who "worked" there. I asked her to show me where the "bird section" was since Miss Bull Ring in her Nose at the register could not look in the computer to tell me if they even had the book. This 2nd employee I asked, acted like I was an idiot because I could not even find the "bird section." She led me to the MAGAZINE SECTION, and pointed to some bird books like, "Duh, it's right here under the enormous sign that says MAGAZINES!" My bad, they kept telling me it was in the bird section!? Not the magazine section. It was a book I was looking for, not a magazine. After being treated so rudely, I called Barnes and Noble from Half Priced Books willing to pay full price. Unfortunately, B & N did not have it in stock. I ended up finding it at Half Priced Books, no thanks to any of the employees who I asked for assistance. You might find just what you are looking for here & save a few bucks but heaven help you if you require any assistance from the staff. read more

I liked the smaller locations better, this one looks and feels like one of those book warehouses in the mall. Before, one could find some good bargains and treasures, but no more. They base their prices on Amazon, so items are no longer bargains --you won't find a rare book at a good price. read more

Nice little bookstore. There's always lots of books I want, but the really hyped up books at the moment are never there because so many people want them! There is sometimes exceptions, though. I love strolling through there and end up buying a gazillion books for half the price. A nice way to save lots of money but still having the joy of new books. read more

sorry to say half price books is no more, nothing in here is even close to being half price, this place has become nothing more than a glorified antique shop that sells books, collectibles that are way overpriced, and i feel sorry for you if you sell anything to them, they will maybe give you 5 bucks for a box of 200 records that they will sell at the lowest 10 bucks a pop each resale, they will give you 10 cents each for comics that will be sold on average 5-20 bucks a pop each resale, and this is after the employees go thru the items and decide what they will take for thier collections or to sell on ebay for themselves, half price was a good store in the 80's and 90's but now its a complete JOKE! if you want quality books,vinyl etc. or collectible items you can find everything much cheaper on EBAY, if you are wanting to sell something take the time to list it on EBAY, dont do business with half price, because they are very Crooked!! read more
