Great selection! Very affordable and wide variety. My family left with multiple books and we are all very excited to get home and read them!

Great selection of used books and some new. Price is half of the original list price but if you bought the book on amazon, walmart.com, eBay, etc. you probably got just as good deal if not better. They also buy used books, videos, cd's, records, and games. Yesterday I brought six boxes of books, video games, and movies; most were in like new condition. They might sell one quarter of these in the store and ship the rest to their warehouse or for recycling or use in other locations. I was given the great total of $16.11. It was really an insult. Many of these were coffee table size books, and books about things like aircraft, aircraft carriers, Titanic, architecture, history, music. Many originally cost over $40 and were like brand new. Don't expect much but at least they're recycling things for you if you're gonna throw them away anyway. read more

I will never shop there again. I've spent thousands of dollars over the years there. They offered me $9 for 451 books and lied straight to my face and told me I only had 157 books. I took the books to another bookstore and they confirmed I had 451 books and gave me over $2000. Half Price Books are crooks. read more

I've passed by HP Books about a dozen times but really wanted to go on my first time visit with my daughter who is a book nerd. One of the many qualities that I love about her. WOW. Impressed. Rows and rows of books. All neatly arranged and very affordably priced. There's surely something for everyone here. Whether you're looking for autographed books, first editions, or even comic books. There are dvds, and some Funko pops plus vinyl which gives it a "Hastings" feel. For those of you who don't know Hastings was the one stop shop for books, movies, dvds, vinyl and pop culture things. The service was super friendly and what hearted my heart more anything was the number of young and old getting books to read. Don't sell your books to them. Donate the. At least then you are helping someone. These guys will draw you in and then give you next to nothing for your books. I wasn't expecting much but 15 cents per book for hundreds of books they will sell for $20 is a ripoff. read more

I love this store but selling to them is another story. We took 3 boxes of books and a bag of DVDs to sell and we got a whopping $1.77.

They have a wider variety of books than the local Barns and Noble. The have a far better selection of movies than Best Buy. They have magazines, games, gifts, and collectibles. And the prices are hard to beat. Not only have I had some great finds, but I grew up near two used bookstores so it brings back some memories. The staff is always friendly and attentive and I'm treated like a valued customer when I walk in even if I'm just browsing. I'll also give this place kudos for enforcing masks during these trying times. I also just wanted to mention the first time I walked in there were like three or four movies on my list and they just happen to be in stock - two of them were still new and sealed but at a bargain price. I've gone in here one time and the staff was less than friendly. asking for help is an inconvenience for them. my second trip around i was hoping it would be different but I was met with a mask sign with absolutely no exceptions... well for some people putting it on is more dangerous than the virus. there Is hardly anyone in the store, I stay away from people and I go no where if I think I might be sick. I will be giving my money to a business that's quicker to find understanding than judgement. read more

I was introduced to Half Priced Books by a friend today. It's awesome, especially for children's books. One of the best children's book selections I've ever seen. The store is large, clean and organized. In addition to books there's CD's, DVD's, comics, games etc. There's even a 1st addition, signed by the author section. Customers can sell their used books etc to Half Priced Books. Online shopping is available as well. read more

A book store!! And a discount one at that! I was so excited to see this store when I came to shop at Ross tonight. I went inside to browse, and they have some really great finds. They have new books available for a great deal. For example, they had the popular kid books out (like Diary of a Wimpy Kid & Dogman) for about half the price of other stores. They have the books (new & used) organized very well, and there were some fun titles I found. They also have games, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, toys & more! read more

The selection rotates so that if you go in once a month you are sure to see something new. Pricing is a bit steep, but used book prices are up all over. I have seen some nice stuff (that I already have) that always makes me think... "someone is going to get a good book at a fair price!" I I usually find at least one gem each time I go in. read more

Happened upon this sweet little gem of a bookstore one fine Sunday afternoon. I was headed to another store nearby that unbeknownst to me closed early that day, so I figured "what the hay, seize the day?" I spent entirely too much time strolling up and down the isles, getting real lost in the vintage section . I've always felt there is something quite magical about used books. Prices were ok, some books were priced great, others were a little surprising. But hey. I didn't write the books and who I am I to say what the going rate should be? Anyway, it's a cute little place with books, records, cds, rare finds and neat gifts. I love Barnes and Nobles as much as the next gal, but don't forget these little shops . read more

I do not recommend this place... First, the prices are not half price so not quite sure why that is the name of their store. I found several books i wanted and when i price compared to target i quickly put them all back on the shelf. Target is way cheaper. Also tried to sell about 10 books and their offer was insulting. They offered me $1 and a 15% coupon to their store. I literally laughed and just donated them to the library instead. This place is a joke. read more

Half Price Books' entire business model is based on stealing from its customers. I say this as a former employee. Anyone that sells their used goods here is being ripped off/outright stolen from. They do not pay you for each item, they offer you a 'lump sum' for "everything", which results in you 'donating' (without being informed that you are) to the store. The store takes these 'donations' (things you were not paid for) and resells them at a profit. What they do pay you for will be insultingly low, and god forbid you actually bring in any antiques worth money, you will not be told their true value, they can pay you ten cents for an old book then turn around and try to sell it for a thousand dollars online. While the store has a great selection of books, they absolutely discriminate currently against people with medical exemptions and won't allow you to step foot in their store, shop, or even pay for books that are located on the outside of their store if you do not comply with the mask policy. Won't be visiting during COVID again. While mandating masks can be helpful, there ARE people with medical exemptions and it's nobody's right to ban people from shopping without the masks if they are medically cleared by a doctor to not wear one. read more

When I saw this store open here, I was so happy and excited. I love a used bookstore and I can even sell books and DVD's. Great. I took in several brand new unread books ( I had read 2 of them one time). They offered me 15 cents for a brand new, unread, perfect condition book, that I paid $15.00 for. I kept that book. They only offered me pennies for new books, so I decided to retrieve two others from the stack they would 'buy' (more like steal). The clerk said they didn't give anything for those two (Elizabeth Braddon classics), so I asked why weren't they in the 'reject' stack? He said because often people just donate what "Half-Price Books" won't buy. Not even giving me the chance to keep and reread them. They have that market cornered and are taking advantage of it. As far as extending a helping hand to their customer's by 'buying' their books, that's a laugh. Disappointed. The 3 stars are for a used book and DVD store, no stars for the 'buying' aspect. read more

When I was there I was looking for a particular book and the man looked it up on the computer and found it and took me right to it Also directed me to the children's section and told me about their buy back policy and said let him know if I needed any more help just let him know I thought he was very friendly and will return The prices seem very good It's too bad some of the comments here are negative only because the people don't want to wear a mask inside Well I'm glad they require the mask and I could care less about the anti mask people's comments They are risking my and their lives so they can just stay away and keep their COVID away!!!! read more

Love this place! I used to shop at HPB in California and was so happy to see they expanded to Idaho! Staff are friendly and helpful. They were happy to make suggestions and have conversation about books as well. There's an amazing selection of books here, and yes, they're super discounted! I got an almost perfect condition book that was originally $20 for $9. They've also got a pretty nice selection of vinyls and CDs too. I'm glad they required mask wearing. When you learn what they pay for books compared to what they sell them for, you feel ripped off. They pay pennies on the dollar. If you bring in a book that you can see sitting on their shelf priced at $10, then will pay you less than 10 cents for the same book if you try to sell it back to them. When you bring in a box of books to sell, they take the whole box and sort it and put the books away, offer you pennies (literally) and then don't give you the option to say no I will keep them instead. *Any* other way of getting rid of your books would be a better option. Give your books to a friend, donate to the library, sell at a yard sale... After I sold books here once, I felt differently about shopping here knowing that their profit margin is nearly 100%. I lived in Austin where Half Price Books started. They used to buy at 1/4 of the sticker price and sell at 1/2 half the sticker price. Clearly their business model has changed. Now they buy for pennies and sell for whatever the market price is. There's no benefit to going here compared to shopping elsewhere (amazon, thrift stores, the little shop inside Boise Public Library downtown....). read more
