This place is great. I love how cheap the books are and their variety. I bought five books for only $32. I found one of my new favorite books here. They also have CDs, and there are also some small plushies at the checkout center. They also have pretty bookmarks from one to three dollars. You can also sell you used books. The service here is pretty good. The cashiers are usually pretty nice and usually keep to themselves. The only thing I find a bit annoying is that some of the books already other people's names on them. There are also some books in not-to-great condition. Watch out for that. read more

They have everything here! Out of all the Half Price Books in the city, I think this is the one I've visited the most. Even though it's slightly smaller than some of the other locations, there's a ton to see in store. While the book selection is good, they have a hefty selection of movies, games, music, and collectibles to peruse through as well. It's pretty easy to find things in the store, but there's staff readily available to help if you're having trouble finding something. Give this place a go the next time you're looking for a summer read or something for school! read more

My fiance likes to get facials at a place up the street. This is where I like to go while I am waiting for her. I walked from Skin Rejuvenation Clinique to Half Price Books. I did notice that there was plenty of parking right in front of the building. This is a used book store that sells many other items including comic books, DVDs, records, board games, and VHS tapes. Lately, when I have gone, I have been spending time in the Foreign Book section. I have been trying to learn Japanese, so I have been getting manga that is in Japanese to judge my progress. What I have learned is that I have a long way to go. The last few times I have gone, there has been either a very small line or no line to the register. I recommend this place because you don't know what you'll find here that might interest you. read more

Although I support used bookstores, and appreciate them being available to us, half price bookstore has notoriously been terrible at buying books from people and that's how they actually stay in business... they buy books from people. I brought in 15 books today and I got five dollars and while that may not sound too bad, I shop here enough to know that they will eventually be marked at eight or nine dollars a piece. I love shopping for recycled, thrift and used items but this is a slap in the face to their customers and it makes me not want to buy anything from their store. read more

other than the fact that the newer books are at least $5-10 cheaper at target or walmart.. which kind of invalidates the name, the selection of books isn't too bad, although i usually just find myself ordering off of worldofbooks online as the books are much cheaper on there as well and they have free shipping. this place is starting to feel kind of greedy idk. plus i just got waterboarded by their sink while trying to wash my hands, y'all should upkeep your plumbing. read more

Friendly, laid back location. Something's really wrong with the 410 Location. In cost cutting, did the company remove too many employees? Still much less competitive in price than it used to be, but ambiance is worth something. Please don't overwork your staff in busy locations. read more

I love this place, and I can honestly stay here for hours . Today, I bought two books on project management, to help me with work & I only spent $19. I will use these books at work, to help me out. The books will help me look like a genius, lol. I also love half price books because of everything else they have. They have fiction, they have nonfiction they have records, they have comic books. They have a nostalgic section. They have DVDs & they have CDs. You name it and they have it. Plus, if you have books that you wanna get rid of they will pay you for them. It is a very clean store and it is in a safe location. I was asked several times if I needed any help, the customer service was great. I will be back here many times, I would suggest that you come to the store as well. Tip: If you want to buy a bunch of books, bring a bag with you. They do not use plastic bags. read more

What's so good about this place: Books and other items are all in order. Place looks very clean. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was courteous and greeted me upon entry. The environment is nice. I've lived in three states in the past three years, and there's an ongoing list of stores I'd love to be able to take with me whenever I move- HPB ranks in the top three. They're all about community events and literacy, selling new books at 20% off list price every day and constantly recycling donated books back into the community to improve literacy rates. This location is huge and well-organized, with a quick buyback counter and friendly bibliophiles running the shop. I love the touch of having "Staff Picks" stickers throughout the store, and always make a point of stopping here to grab a few books for my flight home. read more

This is the bees knees. The bat cave to bat man and the bee hive to the bees. This place has plenty of knick knacks and plenty of cook stuff. Ambiance: This place reminds me a local Barnes and Nobles with a home town vibe. It feels like a library with a decent variety of books ranging from cooking to the military. I like the little tables where people can play board games. Definitely a place to find a random book that you never expected to want. Service: the staff here is super helpfull. I was looking for a book my favorite author haruki marukami. They looked through their database and unfortunately they didn't have it.but they were able to find a shop that did have the author I liked. Additionally they tried helping me find alternatives. I really appreciate the customer service to find a book which suited me. I didn't buy a book that day, but they have a wide variety of books, records and puzzles. They even have some nostalgic fishing books that I remember reading when I was in my earth 10s. It brought back lots of memories. The only drawback is not having one of my favorite authors and having a somewhat limited supply but you are able to find a store which will have your book. Lastly they also buy books. So if you got a library that looks like the one out of the league of extraordinary gentlemen then bring some down and get some cash for the ones you don't really read or don't have any value to you. read more

We visit our neighborhood HPB pretty regularly and our kiddo loves it. Over the last 6mos or so the staffing seems to have really taken a turn. It's grown very hit or miss as far as general friendliness and customer service. Today Kat/Cat (middle-aged HF with the neon orange hair) was incredibly rude to the point that we immediately left the store. There's really no reason to take your bad attitude out on customers. read more

As far as used bookstores go, HPB can actually run a bit on the pricey side (nowhere near what you're going to pay at a place like Barnes & Noble, but more expensive than you'd pay on Amazon). Still, I always come back for more. Why? 1. Selection. You're not going to find such well-stocked titles in a wider range of topics at any other used bookstore. If you want it, chances are you can find it here. If you can't, they'll call in the order from another one of their nationwide locations. They also have a pretty decent stock of comic books, posters, vinyls, and CDs. 2. Quality. I'm not 100% sure if HPB is a used bookstore or not. I know they sell used books, but I also know that most of the books look pretty mint. 3. Staff. People who work at HPB love books, and they love helping you out. 4. Discounts. As a teacher, I save 15% on every purchase. I think they have other discount programs as well, but I'm not sure about that. read more

As far as Half Price Books goes, this one could be the best in SA! It was well stocked and organized. I think this was the first 1/2 Price that didn't have piles of books sitting at the buy counter (not that that really matters to me but it might to some). I found books I had been looking for as well as a few CD's. read more

Always clean and well organized. Got to appreciate that. The staff always greets you when you come in and are very helpful. Great place to get books at a really good deal. Why pay full price when these books are practically brand new and at maybe 1/4 the original price. For example, saw a cookbook that usually goes for $24 that was selling for $5.99! I adore this store. This is my favorite Half Priced Books location. It always is neat and the staff are friendly people. I always end up finding a great read. I do wish they had a better online system for locating and buying books for specific locations. Other than that, this is definitely one of my favorite stores. read more

I often do all my book shopping in Austin, but I came to this location because they were the only store who had what I was looking for in driving distance, which happened to be a large multi-volume set of commentaries. Not only did they have them on hold for me, they helped me in getting them to the car. Very good service. read more

The selection is outstanding, but don't come expecting to make much off of selling anything. I brought in about 30 kids books, a dozen adult hardcover books, a few bluray films and two entire dvd/bluray HBO series (half of which was still factory sealed) and I got $24. Could I have sold all of it for at least ten times that on my own? Yep. Did I want the hassle of doing so? Nope. And that's how HPB knows they can offer such low purchasing rates. Convenience. I am posting this review on behalf of my mother who visited this location on 11/7/15. Below is her review: I thought Half Price Books supported schools and donated books to all schools I was wrong. I am a teacher and went into the Half Price Books in Stone Oaks, which is managed by Ken Stahl. When I asked about the donation for school program I was informed that books could not be reserved and teachers had to come to the store for books. When I went for books two weeks ago Mr. Stahl informed me that he did not have any young adult books available, today when I went to the store after hearing my school districts name Mr. Stahl informed me that the books in the boxes were reserved for someone else. It appeared Mr. Stahl did not want to provide my school with books. I thought it might be because my school was a charter school located in the southern part of San Antonio. Mr. Stahl was deliberately evasive about why he was not providing me with books. The staff were apologetic and stated they did not understand why Mr. Stahl was representing the store in that manner. read more

We always come here first when my kids need novels for school reading assignments. 75% of the time they do have them :) And... We save $$$ compared to the "other" book stores. We also spend lots of time getting lost in the books here, finding great reads. Yes, we have gone in, looking for certain books with no luck- However, we realize the books are coming from individual sellers, not distribution companies... you get what you get and you know that going in. read more

TERRIBLE staff and overpriced pre owned books and movies. And don't dare walk in with a crying child because the childless customers will ask the staff to ask you to leave because THEY have "difficulty shopping" and the staff AND manager will cater to them. This is a wonderful place for new and used books. It was a surprisingly (to me, at least) large place also; I'm used to usually visiting small, though well-meaning, secondhand book stores, and this was excellent to see. Along with all types of books in general, the collection here includes rare/collectible books, comics, and records (old vinyl and new), as well as other types of music and video media. (The latter includes laser disc! Who knew that was still out there?) The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

Great place to find forgotten books from your childhood, and obscure literary gems. in addition to a great place to find inexpensive books, you will find a great assortment of DVDs. The variety of DVDs is amazing, you will find cartoons from your childhood so you can share them with your own children, and even more mature movies and TV shows for a very low price. I come here to buy vinyl, usually a pretty good selection. Def the best half price in town to find good vinyl. The record buyer needs to research a little more on some of their vinyl, some prices are a bit high. But over all like the store and always friendly service. read more

I recently resolved to begin a home yoga practice so on a whim I decided to check out this location before an HEB excursion. I was beyond shocked by some of the gems I found here! I was able to find older yoga books and DVDs as well as a few newer ones too! They had coloring books, meditation guides, I even found a deck of Pilates cards you can use to create custom workouts and a full copy of p90x for $30! What, what! Talk about a New Years win! Location is well lit, very clean and organized with a friendly staff, awesome selections and savings. I couldn't ask for more. read more
