A cute little beer bar next to Below Zero in OTR. Lots of windows and kitchy decorations make for a great atmosphere. Bar staff was very helpful and willing to let me sample a couple things before making my decision. Prices are too be expected for craft beers in OTR. Only downside is that they don't serve any food to go with the beer... even bar snacks would be enough. Looking forward to picking up a growler from their walk-up window in the future! read more

This little bar is a great place with a solid beer selection. I happened across it while visiting the awesome little taco window text door (Half Cut allows you to come over and eat in their place while enjoying one of their beers. And even cooler, the complement the taco window, Half Cut has a beer window! You can pick up growlers right off the street! I like the decor and the prices are pretty good (I'd probably like to see them be about 50 cents - 1 dollar cheaper to really nestle into my comfort zone) with lots of promise of things only getting better. Between this bar and the taco window, I am seeing the beginnings of a nice eastward expansion of the OTR revitalization and gentrification (my problems with this aside), it's sure a cool place to hang out. I really have no idea why a place like this did not exist sooner. Running a bar like a restaurant where you order at the counter is pure genius. On top of that, there is a walk-up growler window? Half-cut is awesome. Here's a rundown of some of the cool things. Pros - Great beer selection (it's kind of their thing) - Efficient ordering system. Getting a beer is always fast - The aforementioned walk up window for growlers - High quality growlers. They don't use those metal caps that rust, they're some sort of fancy plastic ones with a special seal. Plus, they look cool. - Goats everywhere! - Atmosphere is relaxed, but stylish. Did you know that Gomez Salsa will deliver your order if you're seated inside of Halfcut? We had a drink on Valentine's Day (romantic date, I know) while waiting for our Gomez Salsa. The service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The beer selection was awesome too. The crowd was lively and having a good time too. Although my stay was short, I'm a fan. I am a big fan of HalfCut. If you drink beer, this is where you need to go. If you don't drink beer, shame on you. If you don't like the beer you are drinking, keep trying. Still don't like it, come back a different day and you will find one you like. They rotate. Their flights are big enough to enjoy and share, no thimbles here. Taco Tuesday works great. Two tacos and a beer. Beer is from HalfCut (hint look for the G) Tacos are from Gomez, see the line outside. Like to get an occasional growler from them, they are reasonably priced. read more

I live right around the corner from half cut and generally enjoy purchasing beer from there. But I have two main complaints: 1) they constantly close before their listed closing time. I have tried to stop in for a 6 pack multiple times about 10-15 minutes before their listed closing time only to find a locked door and the staff cleaning up inside. I understand that the staff may not want to sell someone a pint of beer 2 minutes before they close, but I think it's really poor customer service to prevent me from grabbing a 6 pack to go at 9:45 when your door says that you close at 10:00. 2) Their 6 pack selection never varies, they offer the same handful or so varieties without switching up the selection much. For a beer bar, I would really expect them to branch out and try some new options. I swear I would probably drop 30% of my paycheck to Half Cut if the above issues were not present. Alas. read more

This place has very nice design. The interior is comfortable. The murals are very cool. Other than that our experience was not great. First off we were there specifically for Happy hour. We got there at 5:30 on a Thursday and were charged full price for the our beer. There were two people working there. I asked and the guy shrugged his shoulders and said they were not doing happy hours at the moment. The woman bartender was barely interested that we were there. Any questions we had were barely answered. She seemed annoyed by any questions. The guy working had to stop what he was doing to answer our question about a beer. It was 5:30 to 6 on a thursday and all the table were dirty. The place seemed kind of gross to me. We were gonna stay for more drinks but after that lack luster experience we left and went elsewhere. Its a great space, but they need to get it together. Do not trust the happy hour prices and do not count on pleasant or informed service. There are plenty of great bars in town to have to put up with this. read more

Halfcut is fantastic if you enjoy beer and trying different types of beer. The atmosphere is perfect for an afternoon or early evening drink. I no longer live in Cincy but when I visit home this will be one of my first stops for sure. If you find something you really enjoy they have growlers you can take it home ;) read more

Love HalfCut! They have a great beer selection that is always rotating, so you are sure to find something you like. I love their concept of standing in line to order your beer, so it's not like your typical bar where you are fighting for the attention of your bartender. You can also order growlers, and they have great flights as well. It is small, and there's not a ton of seating, so beware if you are with an exceptionally large group, especially on a weekend evening. There are board and card games to play. I went to HalfCut for their opening night this past Friday. It was a great time and the place had a great feel to it. The ordering system was really efficient and unique and they had an awesome selection of brews on tap. It was really busy but it didn't seem claustrophobic. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, inside the bar and out at the food truck they had make a stop. They had a really cool corner of board games and stuff too for more "relaxed/chilled" nights. I'll definitely be going back for a game or two of battleship and a pint. read more

Turner's review (9/3/2017) is spot-on. This used to be a great spot with a diverse beer selection. You could come here and have a beer, eat Gomez, listen to whatever vinyl the staff was spinning, play a board game, and meet some doggies. Then, Gomez bought them out and stripped the place of any character it previously had. Gone is the giant map and artwork on the wall, replaced with two flat screens. Gone is the beer list behind the bar, and the diverse beer selection. Gone is the old staff. Gone are the board games. Gone is the turntable. This used to be my go-to spot but I've only visited twice since Gomez took over (that place has gone downhill too, but that's for another review.) Thankfully, Liberty's fills the neighborhood niche that Half Cut used to hold. Sad! read more

HalfCut is awesome. Flights of beer for $8 is a solid deal. Its definitely kind of a hipster bar, but i loved it. My buddy and I brought food over from Gomez Salsa and bought a few flights. The beer selection is really good. They had a nice variety of styles, and from some great craft breweries, both local and from all over. We found their collection of board games, and ended up playing Cards against Humanity with some people we met there, and made for an awesome start to the night. We got in pretty early on a friday, around 7. By like 8, the place was packed, and had a line to the door. But when you have Kick ass beers and great food right around the corner, its kind of expected to be that busy. Just get in early if you don't like the crowds. I didn't mind it though, we met some cool people and had a great night. I will definitely be back. read more

I visited HalfCut for a brief stop while in OTR in order to try Gomez Salsa. The place was somewhat full for 10:30PM on a Saturday night with a few groups taking up most of the tables. The room, while small, was laid out very well. You order at the front, and then take your beer (and food if bringing in Gomez Salsa) and find an available seat. My boyfriend and I ended up sitting along a bar on the wall, but it gave us the perfect opportunity to take in the awesome decor and ambiance. Once we sat down, more people started to come and fill the place up, and by the time we left, it was nearly bursting. I definitely wished we could have stayed longer, but I am excited to go back to try a flight/there other kinds of beers! read more

The owners of this establishment do a fine job of vetting all of their candidates before putting them on their wall of beers. They offer 16 rotating draft beers at a time, ranging from local brews to Belgian classics. I have tried some of my favorite beers from here that otherwise would not have been on my radar. I give them 5 stars simply for their amazing selection, but they offer an amazing space as well. It is not huge, but you can easily come in with a few friends, pick up a board game, and spend a night full of great beer and good company. I just wanted to mention that my earlier prediction that Halfcut would become a cluster on Friday and Saturday has been gloriously disproven. My husband, myself, and my friends have visited Halfcut multiple times, from happy hour time on the weekdays to closing time in Saturday night. They are always bustling, but NEVER claustrophobic, which is amazing in my mind. Still have my fingers crossed that this gem won't be overpopulated in the bear future! This is a great addition to the OTR district. As a neighbor we are very happy to see more businesses, especially ones we want to hang out at popping up! We met Jack, one of the owners, the other night and had a great time chatting with him about everything in the new space. Beer is fast and convenient. We come here to drink beers while we wait on our tacos from Gomez salsa. They have one TV in the middle of the room so it can be fun to watch sporting events. The bar tenders are quick and the beer is all on draught. It is close to the main drag in OTR and serves as a great growler filling station. read more

Craft beer rules this city. It's what we love, what we talk about. We crave it, go out of our way to get it. In some ways it has become the glue that holds our thriving community together. For the love of beer, this is the destination. Let's make this much clear: HalfCut is not a bar. They serve only beer, the music is soft. The place closes at 10 PM most nights, midnight on the weekends. There is not, in fact, as physical "bar". Rather, the place is almost a coffee shop for beer. Perhaps we'll call it a "beer house". As with a coffee shop, one does not park it on a stool and sip. Rather, orders are placed at a counter. Behind the bar, a series of blank tap handles bear numbers corresponding to blackboards hanging above, each of which dutifully identifies one of the beers. The selection is varied and exceptional. The decor I would describe as contemporary urban, with a decidedly western feel. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I found myself at HalfCut late on a Tuesday evening, and there were few other patrons in attendance. Beers are all available for sample, served by thoughtful bartenders (if indeed that is the correct term for them) who will guide you through your process of selecting a beer to suit your tastes. Should you encounter difficulty in deciding, flights are available. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at HalfCut. The entire place has the feel of a homage to brew culture, and the city that has enshrined it. Certainly worth a visit. read more

Went to HalfCut for the AIGA Liquid Courage Halloween Event and had a fantastic time! The beer selection is impressive. There is literally something there for everyone.
