Fun spot. Definitely glad we had a reservation for our table. We had dinner and then stayed to watch the show. The music started at 8pm. We got there at 6:30pm to have dinner prior to them closing the kitchen when the music starts. There was no waitress service unless you paid for a VIP table with had a $100 surcharge and came with service and a bottle of champagne. Met the owner Brian and he was personable and extremely hard working. This was our first time in this tavern and we would definitely go again. On this occasion we saw the Noah Wotherspoon Band and they were excellent. This place has 13 tables and ~20 bar seats. Super small venue so don't forget to either come early or make a reservation. The hubby had the chips and queso and did not care for it but the burger and fries he ordered were fine. I ordered 3 apps, onion rings, green tomatoes, and deep fried carrots. I liked the green tomatoes the least. The fried carrots will definitely be ordered again, the were perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Our friends both ordered patty melts and said they liked them. We all had cocktails and beer and they were fine. Definitely liked the vibe here and we will go back to see someone else soon. read more

First off, went in the middle of a snow storm and they were open, greeted us, had great service (woman bartender was amazing), and the FOOD! The fried green tomatoes were to die for and the burger! Mansion Hill is improving. Not quite a greasy spoon, but not yet to that trendy gastropub level either. The food is hit-or-miss. Their house salad is absolutely a star. I've heard good things about the bisque and truffle fries. The burger, however, is in much need of a rethink. It is not at $16-a-burger level. It will leak all over your plate and soak the bottom bun. If it was supposed to have an aioli or any dressing, it was sorely missed. That said, their lunch specials and their happy hour drink prices are a deal. The atmosphere also reflects this trend. A lot of decor is vintage, but in that retro-cool sort of way. Some of the other decor is still solidly stuck in the past, and not in the retro-cool way. This vintage is matched with much needed modernizations and a performance area. In total: the atmosphere feels familiar, not quite a dive, but a hole-in-the-wall that it would be easy to become a regular at. The bartenders I've had thus far have been charming. Mansion Hill has a whole lot of untapped potential, and I'm excited to see where it goes. A couple more strides and some healthy experimentation will go a long way to bringing this once three-star to a future five-star. read more

My son and I stopped in here while PubCrawling before a Bengals game. Very old establishment in a beautiful historical neighborhood. This is a blues bar and they have live music nearly every evening. We didn't stay for the live entertainment but we did have a couple Moscow mules. They were excellent. It was very relaxing to just sit there and listen to some blues playing on the jukebox and having a few cocktails. Talked with the owner extensively. They do have food certain days of the week. The only parking would be street parking but we walked from the levee. It's about a 10 minute walk. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Watch out for the ghosts. They are haunted. HOLY COW! Amazing food. Mansion Hill has been our late night music venue for 4 years now. When they started serving food, I had my doubts. But we've now stopped in 4 times to eat and it is hands down some of the best food in Newport. Their food is fresh and homemade, there is usually a special, the desserts are made in house, and the owner is very invested in quality and service and frequently checks in. PLEASE GO! Located just a few minutes walk from Newport on the Levee, this comfortable saloon rocks the old school steamboat theme, with miniature paddle boats and other nautical elements decorating the walls and ceiling. We popped in on a Saturday night because we knew Mansion Hill would be hosting a live blues band, called the Blue Ravens. The show was great, and it was obvious these guys had been jamming together for a long-time because of their excellent synergy. We ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and a Beam and Coke, which only set us back $9. Not bad, considering both were tall and strong (just the way we like them). We were kind of disappointed they didn't serve food (only offer lunches through the week), but the kind bartender suggested that order Pasquale's down the road, who deliver there all of the time. The crowd (mostly 35 years old +) was laid back and happy to see newcomers. Though the bar was empty when we arrived (about 8 pm), the place was full by the time the band started at 9. When it comes to blues bars, look no further. Mansion Hill Tavern boasts some of the best live blues music in the Cincinnati/Newport/Covington area. Aside from the music, you have a solid menu that is a step up from hole-in-the-wall bar food. You'd never expect from looking at this place that you could get a decent salad, burger, or freshly-made soup... but you can, and you won't be disappointed! I personally think is is a bit dark upon first glance when you enter, but the employees, patrons, and live music totally make up for it. The street parking in the area is mostly for residents only, but across the street is a free lot so I've never had any problems finding a spot to park in for cheap (or for nothing)! The one downside to Mansion Hill Tavern is the same as any other NKY bar -- smoking. I hate coming home smelling like an ash tray. Otherwise, this place is a great bar to go to! read more

Met a friend here for lunch today. Though I've passed by for many years, I've never had anyone to "meet" so I've never gone inside as I didn't want to saddle up to a bar by my lonesome. Found a close parking spot right on the street, though at night this might be trickier with the Mansion's proximity to Newport on the Levee. I was welcomed warmly by the bartender, and saw my friend at a table near the back of the room. She and her husband come here often, and love it. I think I could, too. A completely relaxed atmosphere, where regulars are open and friendly and don't make you feel like you don't belong. The lunch menu is simple and straightforward--sandwiches, soups, salads. The special today was a grilled ham and cheese on rye, and that sounded good on a cold, grey day. Served with pickles, tomato, lettuce and a pack of mayo on the side, and an order of fries, perfectly proportioned, perfectly grilled, An all around good lunch selection. This is a bar, so there is smoking. Wasn't too bad at lunch, but I could see how it could get a little heady in there when crowded. Would love to come again and catch some live music, though. read more

Having never been to covington, i yelped our possible destinations and reading the reviews for MANSION HILL TAVERN, i knew it was exactly what we were looking for - and i could not have been more CORRECT. A cheap corner dive bar with everything you could possibly want - cheap drinks, great live music, friendly staff and patrons. there's even a small open air patio for when we got there - to just hang out and talk, before we moved closer to the band. Not a bad place. I happened upon this place on the way back to my car with my friend, and we decided to stop in. I believe this bar takes cash only - no credit card, so be prepared for that. This is also a smoking bar, so if you have problems with smoke, you should go elsewhere. Their "No Smoking Section" isn't much to talk about, but I have to say overall, the smoke didn't seem to bother me during the half an hour I was there. We happened to be there on St. Patrick's day and they had food specials...to bad I had already eaten, but the prices were phenomenal. They also had a band...not you're typical loud screaming band, but a...shall we call it a bluegrass band...i think that's the best way to describe it. I was skeptical about the bands based on reviews before we went in, but it was quite nice. Lastly, the service staff and many of the patrons were very friendly. Then, if it's a friday or saturday night, the band starts up, and you realize your hearing some of the best blues in the area. There's also a great little patio out back that faces the street.
