1/29/2026 we ran across this bakery by accident and we were greeted as soon as we stepped inside. They have a variety of both baked goods and chocolates to choose from. We picked up the apple pie after looking over the other items. The owner said they are in the early discussions of baking bread to include sourdough items. We can't wait for the fresh baked bread. As far as our apple pie, it's delicious! Apples are fresh with a bit sweet and sour tasting and with a fresh crisp bite not like that soft mushy texture like you get with store boughten pies baked who knows where and shipped in. The store is clean, bright, smells like a bakery and easily accessible with parking right out front. read more

Since the new owners have taken over, it's like wow!! Beautiful cupcakes that are individually packed. Great for a gift. The tea cake are always requested by my kids. I prefer one petit four for a limited treat. I had a piece of birthday cake from a friend. OMG good. A very high quality bakery. read more

This is a very nice old-school bakery. Good cake to frosting ratio, very nice service with people who are happy to answer questions. I really appreciate a cake place that allows me to come in and buy some out of the case items. This was a very nice addition to our visit in the area, even brought some home for the rest of the family. The seasonal cupcakes (eggnog and peppermint) we got on this visit were very enjoyable. Oue whole family lives in San Angelo and when we come to visit it's a special occasion. It's been years since we came here but remember how good everything tasted in the past. The Italian cream cake was gone so we purchased a chocolate cake. What a disappointed!! Anyone who raves about this place must not have much to compare against because the chocolate cake was dry and tasteless. What happened to this place? Still my favorite bakery 30 years later and more than 10 years after I've left San Angelo. Whenever I'm in town, I make sure to stop by. Specialities and things I recommend: custom cakes, snickerdoodles, petit fours (come early or they run out!), small 9x9 cakes, and tea cookies. The petit fours are the best I've ever tasted anywhere. The cake crumb is really nice, not too dense, always moist and flavorful. We've had a dozen custom cakes made from them over the years and they have always been exactly as ordered, creative and delicious. They also have a trick of getting the icing to look really smooth without resorting to fondant. I wish other bakeries could figure that out! The icing is quite sweet, but I love it and haven't found anything comparable elsewhere. Their snickerdoodles are another favorite of mine. Snickerdoodles are tricky to make and are often quite dry. Not at Halfmann's! Finally, the staff is always friendly and the shop is always bustling. That should be a good indication of their quality and how they do business. I only wish I could order their stuff on the internet because I miss it so much. read more

Just spent $50.00 on cookies. The lady that waited on me was sooooo rude. Every time I told her what I wanted, she rolled her eyes and acted like she was irritated. And.....the cut outs that are $2.49 each were old, hard and crusty. So disappointed, we used to regular them, but when new owners took over we have slowed way down. Now, I remember why. First time to order from Halfmann's Cake Cottage. Ordered 65th wedding anniversary cake over the phone from Austin, TX. Melissa was wonderful to work with, couldn't have wished for a better experience with customer service. Halfmann's was able to customized the cake to avoid an egg allergy, add raspberry filling and changing from a three tiered cake to a two layer cake without missing a beat or charging us an arm and a leg that big box bakeries would have done. To top off all this good PR, the cake wowed the couple celebrating 65 years of wedded bliss ! Everyone who tried the cake had seconds and exclaimed how wonderfully moist, deliciously chocolate and was a perfect combination of raspberry filling and chocolate cake. Finishing off this review is the decorations on this excellent cake was a portrait of the couple from their first year of marriage perfectly copied onto the top of the cake with room for the cake topper, the cross and scroll design was exactly duplicated from an example taken with a cell phone. Thanks again to all the professionals at Halfmann's Cake Cottage, we will order cake from y'all for years to come, no need to go anywhere else. OMG. Honestly did not go to the shop but was in town to visit friends for the weekend. Got to have their chocolate chip cookies the first day. Next morning had cinnamon rolls AND a breakfast and another breakfast pastry with pecans in it. Warmed up with butter and served with my morning coffee amazing! Wow- so so disappointed! Visiting from out of town. My daughters 4th birthday happened to be during our visit. There weren't a lot of reviews online for any bakeries in the San Angelo area. So the reviews I did read of this one seemed good. I went with it. When we arrived two workers were at the counter and didn't even look up at us. A third woman appeared and sorta mumbled about helping us. Excitedly, my daughter told her it was her 4th birthday that day. She didn't even smile let alone say anything. I explained we were looking for a small cake or cupcakes. Again no real conversation attempted by the employee. So we looked at the bakery case. There were two or three cakes made- but were priced at $20.00. Since there were only four of us eating, I decided to check out the cupcakes instead. Luckily there were a few more options there. My daughter picked a cute looking cupcake with a tinkerbell decoration. My older daughter picked a cupcake with a little princess crown decoration (plastic). At first the woman was putting them in a bag- which I found odd for cupcakes so I asked for a box. Then I picked two for my husband and me. There was no explanation of favors- either a sign or by the employee. When we ate the cupcakes that evening it was evident they were not fresh-they had to be dayS old. We also discovered they each were flavored: which would have been nice to know when making selections. So I felt we wasted $8 on stale cupcakes. Luckily when we get back home we can make it up to my daughter with a real cake. read more

I go into Halfman's quite often because one of my customers who are out of town love getting these treats when I go see them I usually get thumb prints, strawberry/lemon cheese cake cookies, melt aways, texas chews and lemon bars. That is really all i have tried and each dessert named are AMAZING Walking into the new owners having the business the place looks much more modern and less cluttered. I'm sad to see that this place has changed so much. I have really fond memories of all the delicious treats and clearly, there's new management involved that has no sense of the need for loyal customers in a locally owned business! The baked goods are not as flavorful, seem more commercial, and not from scratch. The service is horrible and you encounter one rude person after another. Every business has a time that they are extremely busy because of events or holidays, but that doesn't mean you should sacrifice customer service in the process. The people buying are the ones keeping the doors open. This bakery was the best around for a lot of years but that's not the case anymore. read more

I ordered a custom cake for my husband's birthday. It was an Atlanta Falcons cake. It was wedding cake white and buttercream icing. The cake was very good. It tasted like a wedding cake. The icing was perfect. Not too sweet. We had a 9 inch cake which fed about 16 of us. The cake was exactly what I asked for and was delicious. We ate it a day after I picked it up and it was still fresh. Will definitely order from here again. read more

Every night, when I walk my dog, we walk by Halfmann's. Every night, when I walk my dog, I say to myself "The next time I'm off when they're open, I'm totally going to go in and get a cupcake". Today was the day I finally got to go in. Before I get to my visit, let me give you a little backstory about me. I'm epileptic and my dog is a seizure alert dog. That means he will let me know when I'm about to have a seizure so I can properly brace myself and avoid injury. It also means that he wears a bright blue vest with the words "SERVICE DOG" on both sides. Helen Keller could tell that my dog is not just a pet that I take on trips with me; he's doing a job. We go into the store and it's full of people, so I pick my dog up so he doesn't accidently get his tail stepped on or accidently trip someone. As I'm looking at all of the baked goods and trying to decide what to get, some ogre dressed in pink walks up to me and very rudely says "This is a food establishment. You and your dog can't be in here". I looked at the dog and said "Don't you see his vest? He's a service dog". At the same time, I'm thinking "Girl, this is a schnauzer with a fresh haircut and a vest that clearly states what he is doing. What havoc do you think we are trying to bring upon your store?". She then had the audacity to roll her eyes at me and then she just stood around staring at my dog. I had enough and told that while I appreciate her attempt at embarrassing me in front of everyone in the store, I'm not about to give my money to someone who is allowed to act like that. If the owner of Halfmann's happens to read this, please look into hiring staff members who can look at a dog in a vest that says SERVICE DOG and recognize that they're not some stray off the street who walked in hoping for a crumb that fell on the floor. It could not have been any clearer that he is a service dog. It also could not have been any clearer that the woman who berated me has helped herself to one too many cookies and probably shouldn't be left around baked goods unattended. She acted like more of an animal than an actual animal did. read more

Probably the best bakery in San Angelo hands down! They make everything from beautiful wedding cakes to individual cupcakes. The store it self is just the right size for its customer flow. I come here at least once a week and am always pleased by the friendly staff and great tasting baked goods. If you need a wedding cake I highly recommend this bakery. Very professional and hard working. It is one of the places you go into and the staff begins to know you as a real person and not just a customer. Over all A+ job at Halfmanns! read more
