Stunning resort! We booked a stay in unit 14C in February. As other reviews mention, you get what you pay for so go with a more premium company. This unit is managed by Polu Resorts and I'd have to give them 5 stars all the way (book direct cause I found them on Airbnb and direct rates are better). Unreal great service and hospitality that I wouldn't expect from a vacation rental company. The unit was among the most clean I've seen, decorated nicely, and full of supplies. My family loved the AppleTV boxes in all the rooms too. The resort is beautifully landscaped and the pool/restaurant has great sunset and ocean views. Cannot say enough positive things about this trip! Better than neighboring hotels we've visited in prior years. read more

My parents own a condo here so I've been a few times since they bought a couple of years ago. Their unit is nice, clean, ground floor 2br that rents well. I've also been upstairs in another unit that is a townhouse that my family rented from another owner that is also very nice. I think the level of satisfaction is going to depend on the unit you are renting since they are independently owned. I'm sure some are better than others. Overall the community is private/secure, clean, well maintained, and the Ocean Club Pool is very peaceful and a nice spot alongside the ocean (hence the name haha). The food at the club is also pretty solid for casual fare. The nachos are particularly good and more than enough to share. Location is very good close to the Queens and Kings shops, Mauna Lani, Kohala Coast, Hapuna, etc. The vibe is peaceful and calm here and I'm always happy to stay. If you can rent a unit, I highly recommend. read more

We just recently stayed here and enjoyed our stay at the 9-F unit. We did have a lot of stray cats that hung out on our patio door meowing. The back of the unit was a bit odd. Folks kept walking in the back to cut to their units from going to the gym/pool, but wasn't too bad but thought that it was a little weird when I was eating my breakfast on the outside patio by myself. Since there was a lot of strays there was a lot of cat poop outside of our unit on the grass. Unit wide was great. We enjoyed it. We felt safe and comfortable there. Driving to Foodland was close, driving to Queen/King market as another option was close, close to 49 Blacksand beach was good - people speed through the gated community and don't car about these mini speed bumps mind yourself for those with kids. Staff was friendly on premise. The pool/gym was nice. The thing that annoyed me was the bartender at the gym/pool. He disappeared for an entire Warriors basketball quarter and I couldn't order any additional drinks or order food or even close my tab. Was annoying I just sat at the bar and waited with others. read more

This review is for a Costco vacations package. If you go through Costco and rent a townhome that is three bedroom three bath, I believe you will receive one of two "Garden view" townhomes. Which are on the opposite end of the resort (far from the pool or ocean club). This review is for townhome unit 1F. The not-so-good: The cold water in the upstairs guest bathroom sink did not work. There was not a working light in the laundry room. There were also some odd noises in the upstairs guest bathroom. There was no remote for the television in the master bedroom. Just a fire stick remote. Lights in the dining area also did not work. We didn't want to deal about having maintenance people come in, so we just let it go, we were able to manage. We did not ask the front desk for any support on this. This part is just for the owner of this townhome. The carpets are terribly stained, there are dings all over the furniture, and the walls are badly banged up. It would be great if the owners could take some time to refresh the townhome. There was also no barbecue on the patio as was advertised in photos. The garden view is not a garden view and is mostly just these random pine trees. I would say that the accommodations are 2.5-3 stars, at best. The neutral: The ocean club did have a lot of rules. And I brought my children to the pool, but made sure they were quiet and respectful of the many retirees that live there and were at the pool. We were not told to be quiet or policed. We just followed the rules.. They also had water there so you didn't need to bring a water bottle, FYI. There are also old golf clubs and sand toys, beach chairs in the downstairs closet in the laundry room. The front desk will give you beach towels for the beach. The pool has pool towels for you. The good: Loved the location. And to be honest, we spent much of our time outside of the townhome, but having 1677 square footage was awesome for three adults and three children. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the apartment, even though things were stained, worn, and banged up. The cleanliness of the townhome was managed really well. It was just very worn. The resort staff was friendly. I only asked them for extra trash bags and toilet paper twice. The resort grounds were definitely four star! Parking was great as you just got to park in front of your townhome. The Costco good...Costco took care of the cleaning fee, as well as any daily resort costs. We booked two condos, 5G and 19C. We really enjoyed the accommodations as there was plenty of space for our group of 12 and the views of the golf course and partial ocean view with multiple balconies was a surprise. We also really enjoyed the pool and bar service contrary to a few other reviews. We were a little concerned reading the reviews since we were taking two toddlers and three other children, but had zero issues when at the pool. We ended up there almost every night to swim and watch the sunset. Parking could be tough, but being there during the slow season we always found a spot. Highly recommend this location and keep an eye out for deals on their website. Great value! read more

Hali'i Kai Resort is not inexpensive , but in my opinion it is well worth the extra price! Look at the resort map before you book so you know where you will be in relation to the pool, etc. We stayed in 3D and it was wonderful! The beds were comfy (although a bit squeaky) and it was tastefully decorated. The lanai (and living room) had a partial ocean view, which was lovely! We never had trouble parking at the Oceanside club (pool and restaurant), which was well worth the daily $25 fee. The free towel and water service at the pool were great and the food and drinks were really tasty! The servers (especially Kathy) were friendly and efficient. The sunset views were spectacular! We rented 9B for a week. This unit has a view of the beach and the golf course. Our review of the resort is biased by our interaction with the owner of our condo. She is amazing! The condo was great, don't get me wrong. With two bedrooms, pullout couch, and inflatable bed there is more room than we needed. The kitchen was set up and provisioned with a the cooking implements you will need to make as simple or as ellaborate meals as your adventure will allow. We used the condo as a jumping off point to all other areas of the island at it worked well. read more

We came here to visit some friends and had a really delicious lunch. The service was great and the food was absolutely incredible. We were expecting some pretty subpar burgers and food but the burgers were great. The tacos had fresh fish. The fried green beans were absolutely incredible. The shrimp was seasoned so perfectly with a little kick but not too spicy and the salads were fresh and decadent. If you're in this area, I would highly recommend stopping by for a meal and the views were beyond amazing! read more

Worst place me and my family have ever stayed in. The level of disrespect, lack of customer service, and complete absence of professionalism guests are being subjected to at every level is comically mind-boggling if it wasn't so outrageous. Management and by extension staff especially in the Ocean Club and check-in area have completely lost any type of calibration or compass on how to treat paying guests with respect, dignity, and how to provide appropriate customer service. For some reason - apparently with the complete backing of the owners' association - they feel compelled to scold, reprimand, and insult their guests for minor infractions such as sitting at the wrong side of the pool or taking a flask with your own water and ice without any boundaries. This place wants your money, while harassing you and your family mercilessly while having fun on your vacation. If something goes wrong during your stay such as not having hot water, it will take several days to repair. If you have the audacity to push back on them clearly overstepping their boundaries, they will not take constructive criticism under advisement, but instead retaliate in various ways with a remarkable sense of creativity... I am actually in complete shock how poorly my family and me are being treated here. Thank you for the worst vacation ever! Thank you for nothing... read more

Our check-in was less than optimal - another couple were checking in when we arrived and their English was not the best - there was only one person on staff who was taking an inordinate amount of time to translate and get them situated - we wait for about 25 minutes - arrived tired and hungry after a long day of travel - finally asked we could come back to check in - check in normally takes about 5 minutes - would have been nice to have her communicate clearer with us. We did leave and come back in about an hour. We stayed in Unit 17B - pretty minimal stocked kitchen - no measuring cups or baking sheet - limited cheap utensils, not much for serving trays/dishes or storage. We generally stay at the Aston next door and always find their units better stocked. Mattresses were not that firm. Pool area was nice but super uptight on rules - no floaties in the water - you can't throw a ball around, no outside beverages - even a water bottle allowed in. Pretty strict IMO Generally the unit was clean enough. The parking spot for our unit was oddly situated so you ended up driving a lot further around other units to backtrack back to the one we were assigned. Dining room table was countertop height which was odd for a rental. Much prefer regular size table for height. Much easier to get on and off the chair especially with a broken forearm. TV/Video screen in room was small and the couch also very small - challenging to sit 4 adults comfortably. No DVDs in room. Aston next door did provide free rentals which we missed having. read more

The only good thing about this place is the view but you will get that pretty much anywhere on this island. The cleaning fee is ridiculous, especially when they do not offer house cleaning service on a daily basis. They also expect you to leave the property the way you found it which pretty much means you have to clean up after yourself. So what are we paying for? This place is way over priced for what it is. The service was terrible. Sure the rooms were very nice but the service was absolutely terrible. The only good server there was Kathy she's very nice but all the others were just so rude. Also the maintenance guy, Vincente is very nice. A person walks by like every 2 minutes to yell at you and "remind" everyone about the rules (which btw are so unnecessary rules). Then they also do a sweep around at people on the chairs to look for hydro flasks, speakers, balls, and floaties. Also if you go up to the bar they'll yell at you to put your shirt on. They don't even greet you when you walk up the man there just yells "put a shirt on" in a very rude and unnecessary manner. The rules are: No hyrdroflasks, floaties, balls, or speakers. No jumping, diving, splashing, climbing on others, or "horseplay". And a bunch of other stuff I can't remember but those are the biggest ones. Something that was also just not okay was that they yelled at the kids and told them they're gonna get a 10 minute time out if they continue to splash around, which is extremely inappropriate to talk to a minor that way. They should have known better to speak to the parents instead because that was completely unacceptable. The next day my water heater was out and I didn't have any hot water for 4 days. The general manager is very rude and when we went to speak with her about the issues she yelled at us, like full on yelled telling us that she had looked for the part to fix it for hours, as if it were our fault. Also the next day we went to go to the pool because we were hot and our pool key cards weren't working so we called and they said that they had shut off our keys! I kid you not they flat out told us that they revoked our cards because apparently we were mean to the servers (which btw we weren't, my personal room and family had not said anything to the servers, maybe other people we were with had but we did not and we were being guilty by as). Also the next two days after the pool incident our parking spot was blocked so we had to park all the way in guest parking. This may seem like a crazy story but I kid you not I have like 30 people to back up my story. Anyways I will never ever stay here again and I suggest other people don't if they don't want to have rude customer service. Units are individually owned and there's a hefty HOA fee for homeowners which probably accounts for some of the strict pool rules, but maintains beautiful grounds and landscaping. We rented 18D for 2 weeks from https://www.hawaiiluxuryvacationretreats.com/vacation-rentals/halii-kai-18d It is a 2-bedroom, 2-bath, 2nd floor corner unit. We like the extra windows on one side. The lanai is wonderful to sit and eat at. It's a good 7-8 minute walk from the condo to the pool. In total, probably about a 1/2 mile walk round trip to and from the pool. The views are of the coconut trees and palm trees of the complex. It had modern Hawaiian style decor. It had plenty of space for my family of four. 2 adults and 2 kids. it was very true to the pictures on the website, so there were no surprises. It was clean, quiet, and wonderful to stay in. The primary bedroom has a King size bed and the other room, was set up as two twin beds, which worked out perfectly with the kids. Well-stocked kitchen. Do grocery shopping at Walmart, Target or Costco. Cheaper and they have everything you need. There is a Marketplace at the Queen's Shops, but it will be more expensive. We appreciated the extra beach supplies there. We could bring beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach towels, and sand toys. The most helpful item, though, was the small cooler that we could bring with us to the beach to keep drinks and snacks cool in that tropical weather. A/C worked great and having a washing machine and dryer is also super helpful! First of all, be nice to the staff, please. Hawaii still has a mask mandate - so whatever state you're coming from- follow their own state mandates and leave your political views about it at home. We loved the Ocean Club and Grill. We spent a lot of evenings there, drinking beer, pina coladas, Shirley Temples and eating some great food. It's a spectacular spot to watch the sunset. No beach from here. It's all lava rock. But there are some gorgeous beaches within 10 minutes drive away. Spencer Beach is great! Be prepared for strict pool rules and no outside beverages in your own containers allowed. Just know that. But regardless of all that...we still loved it. We relished in Aloha spirit and talked to other vacationers. We bought them drinks, they bought us drinks, it was all a win-win. read more

Only shortfall for my specific unit was quality furniture and the lack of enough furniture. There wasn't even a smart tv available. Unit 1c. While this resort has some of the most beautiful grounds, it is ruled by an overlord HOA that reminds me of old catholic school teachers. There are insane rules at the pool that eliminate all fun for kids and parents who want to have fun. Don't be loud, no balls or toys, no jumping in, no talking to loudly. Then they focus their fears on impractical regulations about little kick boards that our 3 year old uses to swim with -- their response? "We are afraid it will fly away and hurt someone". Same is true for an umbrella we brought(as the pool area has Noooo shade -- none. The best part is saved for the lunacy of not being able to bring in our own water or drinks. They claim it's due to a conflict with their liquor license, but let's be honest, it's so we are forced to drink their drinks and pay $10 for sparkling water. We have stayed at 3 other complexes and 2 other resorts in Waikoloa area and none of the other HOA's or resorts have any rules like this. None of them. If you have young kids or looking for a time of freedom, then avoid this place at all costs. The staff have been rude and barked at my children (who have been respectful and kind. Another shining moment of lunacy is that their workout room doesn't open til 7am. They said it's due to an attendant needing to be present. When have you been to a hotel or resort in which there was an attendant at the workout facility. Most are 24 hours. So if you have kids, you can't miss a morning workout goodbye. The last note is that there is a hidden $20 per night resort fee that none of the reservation sites disclose. You find out when you arrive. read more

We stayed 7 nights in unit 17 B. The beds are very uncomfortable. The unit had dirty carpet and unkempt. There was an issue with the master bathroom breaking down and the front office said it was be 3 days until maintenance can come out. We specifically told them we had to be there when they came. Fast forward to the day they were able to fix it, we stumbled across their maintenance worker coming out of our unit. Total invasion of privacy definitely won't be returning. If you visit the ocean bar be prepared for worker to be rude. They apparently won't serve you water or sell you any. The front worker was combative towards another guest so unprofessional. read more

My cousins and I stayed here during a weekend in February and I am so glad I tagged along and joined them on their vacation to Kona! I didn't know what to expect, since I haven't been to Waikoloa before and I do not have much experience with resorts and condo rentals, but my experience at Halii Kai Resort was very enjoyable, memorable and I was content with our stay! Check-in was smooth and we were directed to our unit, finding it without trouble. Parking is reserved for 1 car and guest parking is limited so car pool if you can! The unit we stayed in was a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a living room and well-stocked kitchen on the first floor and the convenience of an outdoor grill right outside! The unit was very clean, well-stocked with our daily necessities however of limited amounts. If you are planning to stay here for 1-2 nights then you will have enough to use of the soap, toilet paper and coffee packets, but more nights than that you are likely to run out! Because there is no daily maid service, these are not restocked, but you can always go to the front office to pick up more supplies. In the living there is a pull-out sofa bed that is quite comfortable compared to the other sofa beds I've slept in. On the last night I was able to sleep in the twin bed and found it to be too firm for my liking. There is also AC in each unit but you cannot adjust the fan speed so you will have cold air blasting the whole time until it reaches its set temperature. There is also a gym located by the pool house. Very small and has limited machines. No bench press but has cable pullies, cardio machines and free weights. The pool on the property is amazing! It is located right on the coast, there is a large pool in the shape of a C with a hot tub near-by. Best time to go is during the sunset as you can lounge on the shallow-pool chairs and watch the sun set in the horizon! There is also a bar serving specialty cocktails and appetizers. I think I'd definitely return to vacation at this resort again! Next time at a unit closer to the pool! read more

The condo was excellent. The ocean club was great the kids enjoyed the pool but sadly we did not enjoy the bar. The bald bartender was extremely hostile he should not be in the service industry. It seems that he gives special services to people he knows maybe homeowners? After the second night we decided not to go there anymore because of him. Again still no stars in my books. They def win for the worst management ran resort ever. Management apparently, read my review or email I have sent? But does not respond to me. Did not email or call me. I had to call the front office and spoke to Denise Young the GM. Rudest management I have dealt with. There was no customer service at all to the paying customer. After Denise read my email or review...not sure which, but she knew what I wrote. I find out I was denied access to the pool as I was trying to access it! No notice, no email, no contact by anyone. I then went on to call the front desk and spoke to Denise to find out she was upset with my email/review! So she denied me access!!! Wow completely shocked. Wow, never have I ever dealt w anyone as unreasonable and rude as her. NO HOT WATER UPDATE: No hot water for 5 days of my 10 days stay. When spoken to the Denise Young, GM about issue of no hot water, she raised her voice at me. She then went on to tell me that she spent 4hrs at Lowe's, Home Depot, HPM to look for the part and still not part. Left with no solution to fixing water heater, other than knowing she was upset that she was inconvenienced looking for the part. Not my problem, it's the resorts problem to fix. Couple of days later ran into maintenance guy to find out part will hopefully be in next day (being shipped by condo unit owner). Lack of communication from the management. Nobody gave me any updates on when it will be fixed at the front office.Next day maintenance guy went into fix w part. Part was not the issue and issue was not fixed. Note was left saying water heater will be replaced at 5pm same day. Also, there was no hot water and no water. Our water was shut off completely. Had to have maintenance to come back out to turn on our cold water. We finally have hot water at about 6:30-7p on the night before our departure. Water pressure? Horrible after fixing the water heater. Unbelievable. 1 more...designated parking spots are assigned...my spot was coned off for a day and overnight and was left with no spot to park my rental car. No joke. Compensation? None. I asked for resort fees to be refunded and even asked for a discount. Nothing. If you want a great enjoyable stay on the Big Island, I would stay far far away from this place. read more

We stayed at the Hali'i Kai at the Waikoloa Beach Resort through Castle Resorts & Hotels direct booking. Unit 11A 2 bedrooms ocean view unit. We were the 4th building from the ocean including the pool/restaurant unit. Let me start by saying that my family has been to a couple dozens beach resorts including those in the Caribbean. My take on this place is Wow Wow Wow. The condo unit was very nice but the balcony view was priceless. The view included the mountains, golf course, and of course the ocean. Landscape is lush & well groomed. The best part which we were too busy to use was the pool/restaurant/fitness area on the ocean front. It's amazing. Parking was in front of our condo building. I saw tennis courts & a basketball court. Best part is the walking trail along the ocean. This whole resort area has shops & restaurants, plus 2 golf courses. We did not have time to take advantage of all the amenities since were busy with other sightseeing activities. I would not hesitate to come back or recommend this high end amazing resort. Hali'i Kai is one of the nicest properties I've stayed at in Hawaii. My family of 5 along with 2 friends stayed in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo here for a few days over Christmas break. The condo had plenty of room for everyone, was very well kept, and nicely furnished and decorated. Shoot... this place was nicer than my own house back in California, so you can imagine how much we all enjoyed our stay here. The property is beautifully landscaped with gorgeous ocean, golf course, and garden/mountain views. We enjoyed taking early morning walks and evening strolls throughout the property. The beautiful multi-level pool and the open-air exercise cabana overlook the the ocean down at the far end of the property. There's also a BBQ area, restaurant, bar, and plenty of comfy lounge chairs and tables. If you explore this end of the property, you can find a small trail that will lead you along the shore. The center of the property also has tennis courts and a basketball court. The quality and pricing of Hali'i Kai offers a fantastic value for anyone looking for a private, peaceful, and relaxing Hawaiian getaway. It sure beats staying at a huge and bustling resort full of tourists. We were so happy with our stay, we decided to check out the leasing office. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to the Big Island. read more

If you think the flats are amazing, you'll die in heaven in the townhouses, the 'Ikena model. Our humongous townhouse had three bedrooms and three baths (one bedroom and bath downstairs), a fully appointed kitchen, a large dining area, and a cozy family area. Our particular unit, 6G, had balconies in the dining area and master bedroom that overlooked the Hilton, the Waikoloa golf course, and the ocean. The windows on the other side looked out into the town up in the hills. Both views were equally amazing. The pool in Hali'i Kai is breath-taking. The pool is set up like a lagoon with shallow 6" levels where you can lay back in rattan lounges and pretend to float on leaves. One evening, we sat in the outdoor restaurant next to the pool to watch the sunset. This is the perfect substitute to Canoe House if you're on a budget. Their french fries, edamame, and quesadillas were delicious. I particularly liked the fries and quesadillas. I found the calamari too chewy and the fruit platter to0 bland--even sour. Check out their Happy Hour, which ends at 5PM. Since our condo was on the edge of the community, we didn't discover the propane grills and hammocks until the end of our trip, when we decided to go wandering. The property is very dark at night, so those hammocks would've been great resting spots to watch the stars, which were so bright that we could faintly see the Milky Way. Bring bug spray just in case as the few mosquitoes in this area are quite vicious. read more

Instead of booking 3 hotel rooms, I decided to look for a 3-bedroom condo for 6 persons. I booked the Castle Resorts Halii Kai at Waikoloa. What a great find! We stayed in condo #17H which is relatively close to the swimming pool. The condo was very spacious and furnished with modern and tropical furnishings. The kitchen came completely furnished with plates, pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, cooking utensils and silverware. The kitchen has a range with cooktop, refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, toaster oven, rice maker, dishwasher and coffee maker. The condo is air-conditioned and has ceiling fans. We cooked our breakfasts and ate it on the lanai. The condo has a washer and dryer, and a closet filled with snorkeling gear, tennis rackets and a foam cooler. The swimming pool is perfect for young children (pool heights from 1 foot to 4 feet). I would definitely rent condo #17H again if traveling with a party of 6 persons. read more

He is such a personable staff member and ensures that not only your stay at the restaurant is 10/10 but also had great tips on beaches, local area and things to do with our young kids. Nice resort with lots of amenities. Loved that it was quiet and everything was kept so clean. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Since the resort is located in Waikoloa, there aren't too many local restaurants or activities close by, so you'll have to travel 35-40mins up or down route 19. Very disappointed in this resort, When we checked in the lady automatically assumed or possibly profiled us as locals, then magically found my reservation packet. I paid for an Oceanview Villa for 4 days, instead was put into a first floor apartment with a view of the golf course. Final straw was that I requested a late check out, the woman, Megan, did a hard decline and preceded to raise her voice telling me they are back-to-back also implying that my family should leave at exactly 11am because maids will be waiting. I'm not sure that this should be classed as a 4 star resort with this type of service and behavior. There are beautiful resorts to select from in Waikoloa avoid this one. read more

I stayed here with my family in July 2021. We had a two story condo that had all the amenities you could want. The pool is beautiful, and the views are spectacular. The staff goes over and beyond. A family member forgot their phone charging in the room and did not realize it until we were already going through TSA at the airport. A call to Megan at the resort, and she was able to have someone locate it. Her timely action and her honesty to having found the phone is not something you find in many places. I appreciate Megan's kindness and all the hardworking staff. I highly recommend staying at the Halii Kai at Waikaloa for their beautiful property, great accommodations for families, and excellent service. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Unless you really like hiding in a gated community with a bunch of snobs. Maybe if you are looking to recover from plastic surgery or are in the witness protection program and really desire to be ignored by everyone, watch tv, and avoid experiencing anything about Hawaii - this might be the place for you. This is not Hawaii. Within the rock walls (not kidding - rock walls) of this "resort" they seem to have actively worked to stomp out anything resembling the warm welcoming spirit that is part of this wonderful state's culture. You can get this (awful) experience anywhere. The property is beautiful and well maintained but I expected to be attacked by the Stepford Wives at any moment. The first thing they do is (after assigning you a key card for the gate and an entry code for your unit) is hand you a lists of rules. An entire page of crap like the "quiet hours" and "no child under 12 is to be un-supervised at any time", and "park only in your marked space and display your parking pass at all times". You aren't even allowed to swim without a T-shirt or coverup - That is once you use your key card to get into the pool - that's inside of the gated, rock walled, community, that you used your card to get into in the first place... I expected to see "don't run with scissors" on the list. There is nothing to do here. No beach within walking distance. There are two shopping malls - about a mile away with the same stores you have at home and the same chain restaurants as anywhere else in the US. Also be warned - The property is about as geographically far away from any of the island's big attractions as possible - e.g. Volcano National Park is about 100mi away. To top it off the office staff was rude, curt and even obnoxious to each other. The "property" was not clean, (even the furniture in the office was stained!) and they allowed only a single towel and washcloth per guest - with only weekly visits from the "cleaning" staff. We had to make use of the hideaway bed in our unit that was initially only provided with a bottom sheet. When we we went to the office for more bedding and a blanket we were scolded for not informing them we would be using it in advance and had to fill out a form for the "extra" bedding. In all a truly awful place for a family vacation. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

We have stayed at the property for one month/year for the past 7-8 years. This may have been the last year for us... Pros: Beautiful location and grounds Heated pool with fabulous view SOME units well equipped and clean Cons: Terrible customer service - from office staff to pool staff Slow to no response to maintenance issues within unit (this time a broken washing machine) Too many rules - really has turned into more of a retirement community atmosphere rather than family. Kids aren't really welcome - lots of scowls for playing in pool. read more

I stayed here mid-June for 4 days, renting from unit 19G. I have nothing but wonderful things to stay about this place. From the moment I walked into the unit, I was pleased. It's very beautifully decorated and feels very comfortable, like a home away from home :) Honestly, this place is equipped with everything. 1. The kitchen is FULLY stocked. and I TRULY mean that. It has the normal stuff: glasses, mugs, bowls, plates, silverware... but also has things like a kitchen aid mixer, pots, pans, a pizza stone, chop sticks, cooking spices, measuring tools, blender, serving dishes of various sizes, bbq tools, leftovers containers, cutting boards, a toaster, a banana hook, ETC. seriously, i could go on forever... The kitchen is also a nice big size with bar stools :) There's also a separate area for dining. 2. 3 bedrooms! We only needed to use two, but it was still nice to have an extra. Each bedroom had a clock with an ipod player, a plasma or lcd (sorry i'm not very tech savvy) flat screen tv, and very unique and beautiful furniture/lamps/decorations/bedspreads. The master bedroom also comes with a very private balcony with two comfy lounge chairs 3. 3 full bathrooms, so nice! I was traveling with 3 others, so there were times where all bathrooms were occupied, so it was really convenient! 4. The living room/family room area is so comfortable! Plenty of seating, a huge flat screen tv with tons of channels and a blu-ray player. 5. The downstairs balcony is equipped with a table and chairs for eating outside. SUPER nice, we ate outside for every meal even though there was a dining table inside because we wanted to enjoy Hawaii's ocean breezes :) There's also a really nice gas grill on the balcony as well. Other amenities that I loved were the land line telephone, high speed wi-fi, really nice laundry/dryer machines, and all of the beach equipment to use (snorkels, boogie boards, towels, beach umbrellas, beach chairs, coolers). We didn't have to bring anything from the mainland, which was super convenient. As for the grounds, they are beautiful! 19G isn't the closest unit to the pool or the ocean, but the walk takes about 5-10 min and really wasn't that bad (can't complain about walking around in hawaii haha). 19G is close to the tennis courts and basketball courts The pool area is truly stunning! They give you towels upon entering and you can also order drinks/get food in the pool area (it's kind of expensive, but convenient). The pool chairs aren't your normal cheap loungers, but padded nice ones that you can fall asleep in the sun with :) Also, nothing beats the sunsets from the pool, as it is literally RIGHT on the ocean. The gym is also right next to the ocean, and they keep the window open, so you can exercise while feeling the ocean breezes and looking directly into the water. I didn't use their gym facilities, but they looked nice. Overall, I have absolutely no complaints about my stay at Hali'i Kai. The grounds are beautiful, the pool area is nice, and my stay in 19G went above and beyond my expectations. The Big Island was already my favorite island in Hawaii, but now I'm even more determined to get back again soon and stay here again. Hawaii is already amazing, but it's nice to stay at a place that feels like your home and provides you with everything you could possibly need. :) read more

Review #22938884 "Large, spacious 3 BR / 2 BA oceanfront luxury condo with private lanai BBQ- Hali'i Kai 19H at the Waikoloa Beach Resort" . . . NOT! DO NOT STAY IN THIS UNIT UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR PROBLEMS! The dish washer, ice maker and screen door were all non-functioning for our entire 12-day stay. Half of the TV and fan remote control batteries were dead or missing altogether and that took days to resolve. The sheets in the master bedroom didn't fit the bed and were of terrible quality. The unit is for sale and it appears the owner has given up on trying to make the unit an inviting place to stay (old, tatty furniture, stains on carpet and sofa, limited kitchen gear.) When we asked for a $400 rebate on $3,300+ rental, we were told that we could stay an extra hour after the assigned check out for free. (Really??) Then the on-site management gave the excuse that because of the volcanic eruption the unit had already been discounted. However, we booked BEFORE the eruption, so that was simply untrue! If all of the above was not enough, renters should know that the assigned outside parking space for this unit is located two buildings away. Further, while the unit might be on the end, it is like being in a fish bowl with walkways on all sides. And there is absolutely NO view, except for the carport and building across the way. And we couldn't enjoy the breeze from the patio because the screen door had holes in it and was non-operational. When we were packing to leave, the on-site maintenance man came to the unit to "check the cable boxes." (Why he couldn't wait an hour for us to leave is unknown.) He volunteered that the management had been trying to get the owner to update the unit and deal with the cable boxes for months without success. (Yes, the internet and cable repeatedly failed and were atrocious.) I told him that the on site management was just as much to blame for all the problems, and he just shrugged his shoulders. So, clearly, no one wants to take responsibly for making things right. Grand Vacation aka Abby Vacations Rentals failed us miserably and should be ashamed of the way they dealt with us! The on-site management of Hali'i Kai Waikoloa Beach Resort, needs to stop making excuses for shodddy maintenance and start treating guests with respect. There is no Aloha Spirt here, save your money and go elsewhere! read more

Accommodations were great as well as the grounds. Pool was beautiful but NOT a place for families! Employees at pool were rude and badgering and so many rules that splashing is practically prohibited. No sitting on pool rocks, no balls, floats, personal water bottles, speakers, and you must put on shirts and cover ups to even walk up to the OUTSIDE pool bar. We were actually reprimanded for bringing different ice cubes from our room People walk around and check things out constantly. Eventually just stayed away from the pool to avoid conflict and unnecessary stress on vacation. I have never experienced anything like this and I travel with my family quite a bit every year. read more

Unit 22F- the rental agent told us this is the best appointed unit in the whole complex and I believe her. Second time we've stayed in the unit and I'm sad it is for sale. Appliances and furniture are top quality, (except the washer and dryer, which are new but obnoxiously loud and kinda hard to use. No biggie.) And the artwork is themed with 50's tropical movie posters- super cool! They even have all the movies! The library is stocked with a ton of excellent vacation reads. The doors to the lanais up and down are very high quality and have excellent screen doors. Front door has a screen as well so you can allow a breeze. Cable, wifi, internet, TV's all work excellently. What the hell you're doing watching TV while you're in Paradise is beyond me ‍ Now the club- this is where Hali'i Kai really shines. The pool and hot tub are truly gorgeous, staff is excellent, whales show up every day in the winter, and the food is TOP NOTCH. Most club food sucks. This does NOT. Everything I've had on the menu (which is almost everything) is fantastic. Only thing I might criticize is the drinks- they could be better. Yes Hali'i Kai is bougie. Yes it can be pricey. But it's totally worth it for a relaxing week (or month!) On the big island. read more
