I came to Henry's shop with a picture of the engagement ring I wanted mine to look like. He was not interested in seeing the picture and assured me that he could do it better and had other options for me to view. I told him my budget of 5k and he assured me that my budget was healthy and he would stay within it. I asked him if my partner isn't happy with the ring could I return it. His exact words were, "Its my jewelry, I designed it and I can take it back from you." So I was under the impression he would issue a return if there were any issues. Weeks later he showed me a molding of what the ring would look like, which I appreciated. I couldn't really tell what the ring would look like so I agreed to the molding and waited for the final result. When I went to see it, I was not happy with the design. I told him what I wanted and asked him to go back to the drawing board. He had been working on the ring for over a month now so he asked for more money as a deposit, which I happily gave him. Another few weeks go by and the ring is done. They don't allow walk-ins, so you need to schedule a time to come in, which is typically a week out. I didn't want to wait another week, so I requested to come in, pick up the ring, and purchase it. Which was my mistake. FYI he was $1500 dollars over my budget! DO NOT purchase a custom ring from Henry until you are completely satisfied. On the paper work it states, "No Returns for Custom Jewelry" Which was never mentioned to me until after I purchased the ring. When I got home the ring had so many design flaws that were noticeable to the average person. I showed the ring to my co-workers and more flaws were pointed out that I didn't catch myself. The ring was not symmetrical in multiple regions. The halo around the diamond hid the beauty of the diamond and I asked for the diamond to be more visible. The setting opening was not a circle but a semi circle. His response to that was, "You know the human finger is not a perfect circle, right?" He put the halo in the band of the ring. There was a stain on the inner part of the ring. And lastly, the diamond was set off level. To be perfectly honest the ring looked and felt like it was purchased from a vending machine at a carnival. I went back into the store with my mother, telling him about all the imperfections I noticed when I took the ring home. I requested a refund for the setting only and I would keep the diamond. He told me that was impossible. I didn't argue with him. I responded, "If you can't give me a refund, I would like you to separate the diamond from the setting." He offered to fix the mistakes on the ring and make it how I want it. But after two months of not getting it right and the final result being what I purchased, I was ready to move on. He told me I got a bargain on the ring... 6.4k in total. So now I am 2.3k in the hole and without a complete engagement ring. I am sure Henry is a fine jeweler and he has great pieces, but learn from my mistakes if you choose to have him make your custom jewelry.

My engagement ring was custom-made by Henri. The face is beautiful, as is the gem used (aquamarine). Shop here if you're looking for a dizzying selection and somewhat gaudy style and don't mind moderately inflated prices. Halloween is definitely a unique experience, but one I wouldn't personally repeat (though I know they have many loyal fans). In my case, the ring needed resizing three times! To their credit, they did not charge me extra. The first time his assistant used a ring sizer and it was too small, the second time Henri didn't even check sizing and it ended up too big, and the third time he measured carefully and added little balls to the back of the band because the ring was very top-heavy and sliding around. It still slides around a bit, and the band is incredibly thin which bothers me. I've looked at friends' engagement rings, and the quality of the band on mine is poor & thin in comparison. At some point it will likely crack at the thinnest point and I'll have a jeweler add more metal to it. If you're looking for antiques, this is a decent place to check out. Buying jewelry is kind of an intimate activity, and I found the attitude of the staff here to be dismissive and standoffish so I would not shop here again.

What's not to love about this eclectic, one of a kind jewelry store?! Every time I go there I see new things. It would take forever to look at every item in the shop. I have bought jewelry for myself, as well as gifts, and I have never been disappointed.

My partner ((L)GBTQ) and I walked into an empty Bario Neal to see engagement rings at 11:45am. We were told that an appointment was coming in at noon but with three sales people loitering around the spacious and empty store we didn't think much of it, especially because we came prepared. We came with a list of the four rings we wanted to see to be efficient. I was surprised that despite claiming "we strive for inclusivity at every step, from a non-gendered design ethos and comprehensive sizing," the store only had small ring sizes to try on, with almost none of the engagement rings fitting on my ring finger. I'm a trim 5'6 cis woman hoping to try on more feminine rings: if you struggle to be inclusive of me I doubt anyone who is more gender expansive than myself, or even someone with a more full figure or is plus-sized would have a much better time. The scheduled couple walk in at 12:15, a man in a literal yacht club quarter zip and a petite woman with a balayage. The woman working with us lit up and rushed over to say "hi!! My name is Meghan, welcome!" We were ushered out of there so fast our heads spun. We realized that Meghan didn't even bother to introduce herself to us. If your business does not want walk-ins just say it. Don't be wishy washy. And don't claim to be radically inclusive if you don't have at least a second size of sample rings. I'm not going to bother wondering if they were less bullish for my business than a man's in a yacht club quarter zip, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

After nine years, I *finally* decided to propose to my girlfriend, and as any guy would, I wanted both the ring and the experience to be as special as possible. I started out at two local jewelers recommended to me, but each left me feeling like I just went to the big box jeweler that begins with the letter 'K' in the malls across America. Each tried to sell me a premade ring and said they could "modify" it to "make it custom" if I wanted. No thank you! I then went to Harry Merrill on the recommendation of a family member and met Rob and Nicole. What I experienced there was something entirely different. Starting with the stone(s) and building the setting, Rob advised on what would make the best ring, took the time to answer my 101 questions, and listened to everything that I wanted. I must add that I am pretty OCD about purchases that are much smaller than this, so you can imagine what I put Rob through! He was patient and kind the entire way and gently guided me in a direction that I did not think I wanted to go in at first, but looking back I am incredibly glad I took his advice. Once everything was set into motion, Nicole stayed in contact every step of the way and was so accommodating when I had questions or had to pop in to make a change, which there were numerous instances of. What I proposed with is a one-of-a-kind piece that is timeless, elegant, and stunning. My fiancée absolutely loves the ring, as do I. Whether it is an engagement ring or an everyday piece, do not overlook Harry Merrill & Son; if you do, you will be missing out on both bespoke quality and a 10/10 experience... We cannot wait to go back in and design our wedding bands!!
