If I had known about this place for Halloween 2008's Pinocchio or for Halloween 2007's Clockwork Orange Droog, I could've saved myself a little trouble in finding essential costume items that I toiled through vintage stores to find. I really don't know how I ever overlooked this place with their ghouls and skeleton statues out front. Oh wait, it's probably coz I never go to Burbank. Overall, there's a good selection here, especially for those miscellaneous items that bring every basic costume to the next level. The place is apparently open all year and does not waiver from their costume selling duties during the off-times of the year. I wonder how they stay in business? Probably coz of YELP!! I found all the items I needed for the "Bitten on the Bayou" Elite event including my dracula cape, confederate hat, vampire make-up, and southern gentleman moustache, although the last item I decided to forego due to reasons on which I will not elaborate. All I needed was my KFC bucket from....Kentucky Grilled Chicken....and I was good to go. Really? Competing with El Pollo Loco? I think not. Aaaaaanyway, the place is really dark and festive inside and the staff is very helpful. Prices are moderate so you're not gonna get great bargains here in comparison to vintage shopping, but they're not outrageous prices. I was even able to try on the different capes which they have on display before I picked the one I wanted. Parking is ample along the side of the building and if you can't find what you need here, there happens to be another costume shop a few blocks down, right next to the Porto's Bakery. Then you can stop by Porto's Bakery!!! It's like a never-ending chain. Can't wait to see this place blow up like a mutha effin Waco in October!! Too soon? My boyfriend and I love the Halloween Town website, we were SUPER excited to check this place out so that we could get some cool knick knacks and check out the t-shirts etc etc. Unfortunately, when we got to the place we found a costume shop only. I think that the shop looks fantastic and they have a GREAT assortment to choose from of overall costume stuff but I'm really upset that as a person that frequents the website for the non-costume related items that they didn't have any of that stuff represented at the location. Another thing that was a big negative was the staff. There were three chicks standing around chatting about who looks best in what costume? Maybe two were chatting and one was wandering around facing or something. Anyway, no one spoke to us, no "hello, how are you doing" no one asked us if we needed help or anything. I'll likely come back when I need a costume because this place is a million times better than one of those temporary shops but it would be nice to see them add a small section dedicated to the -other- things that Halloween Town's site sells and maybe talk to the staff about being more inviting and friendly. read more

Halloween Town is one of my favorite places to haunt (embarrassingly bad pun alert). Admittedly, I don't go there often, due to the distance, but my ex job from hell was only a few blocks away, and I would go there after work to remember that I was a person that loved zombies, not a zombie myself. This store is open all year, and boy am I ever their prime demographic ! Yes, this place admittedly has it's share of faults, but I choose to focus on the part that is sheer awesome. While one portion of the store is filled with your typical cheap costumes, I have heard that most of these have been moved to an second location (I will make sure to update this, after my next visit). Cheaply made, pricey, costumes, party supplies, and Ben Nye makeup kits are the fairly boring norm of any Halloween store, but this is such a minuet portion of the experience, and frankly not a surprising aspect at all. The layout seems to be constantly changing, and rumor has it, it's changed again in the last few months (her gears turn as it becomes more and more clear that she must go here). There is always a room of art prints for sale, and they are cheap for art prints. I would walk out of there with 15 of them wrapped up if I could. My friend gave me a print from there by the artist, Dienzo; it's entitled "Mona" (for those of you that like to look up art and artists). I would like to own a lot of other pieces in that collection, but my next planned art print purchased from there is a painting called "Gomez & Morticia," by Bob Lizarraga. In the same room as the prints are some of their higher end gothic decor. Bats under glass, or beautiful tincture bottles with macabre labels. You won't find anything in this room displayed on the website, with the exception of some of their books, that we're living against the side wall for a bit. Outside of this room they carry some collectables and action figures (all horror related), a small selection of books, stationary, socks, ties and gloves. They offer a lot of quirky stocking stuffer type items (absinthe mints for example. Yes, fairly useless to many as they don't have any of the effects of Absinthe . . . . if that is indeed how you roll). Badass gothic shirts - scary prices. Día de los Muertos section is small but very pleasing to the eyes - I have purchased a gift or two from this section. Their old school/Americana Halloween collection is absolutely fantastic. I have girl wood for quite a lot of bags in this store, and let's just include card cases, jewelry, and bows, in that statement. They do carry some exclusive Rob Zombie merch, as he has worked with this store quite a bit. Oh did I mention the total panty dropper, look but do not touch, vintage piano that I love there ? Yeah, there's that. Last but certainly not least, the store holds simply delicious gallery art shows. Obviously the shows are small, but I generally just want to eat up everything that is on display. I have never attending opening night of one of them, but have seen the work and prints afterwards. Their Edgar Allan Poe show couldn't be beat, and their annual "Tribute To The Haunted Mansion" art show is always a blast and a half. PROS : - Pretty much what was just covered in this review. A unique place to go if you want to get your spooky on in more than just the month of October. - I love a store that is also an experience. - Play guess the horror flick with yourself as they always have a hidden t.v playing one. CONS : - Halloween Town doesn't fudge around with their rules ! And some of their rules are utterly annoying to me, and infuriating to others. NO cell phone use AT ALL. EVER. NO pictures, NO food or drink, NO standing and reading through a book, NO trying on of clothing, and NO returns. NO touching of certain items (be a grownup and resist the burning temptation to push the red button, so to speak). If you use checks - just a heads up, you can't use them here. - Usually EVERYONE who works here is ice cold and super aloof. I love Halloween a ridiculous amount, and thus I love this store. It has so much more personality than Aaahs or the temporary superstores. Downstairs you'll find some fun options like a full on Frankenberry suit and Flying Monkeys costumes. Upstairs you'll find all the scandalous Leg Avenue costumes your inner hussy could desire, and you can even try them on to see how much of your naughty bits will hang out. However, they don't have dressing rooms so you'll have to shimmy into them over your clothes. We went here Saturday morning (no not because we were on our way to Porto's), but to get the rest of K's costume, which is a bald cap, a gold hoop earring and some adhesive for his 'soul patch'... (wonder if you can take a guess of what he is going to be) They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable here. It was a quick and efficient stop. They guy helping us gave us the 411 on bald cap application and helped us find a perfect faux earring. We looked around a bit at the rest of the store, but we are more of the "do-it-yourself" costumers, rather than purchasing complete costumes. They had a lot of neat synthetic body parts and a cute little book section. It wasn't a complete zoo, which we were completely grateful for. If you're a spooky kid who does their house decorating solely during the month of October, be prepared for gothic bliss! There are a bunch of dark housewares ranging from creepy to classy to kitchy to suit your needs. They have a ton of toys, books, movie, jewelery (costume, real, and body), wigs, costumes, tshirts, dvds, rare collectables.... you name it! They have the cheapy Halloween stuff if you're doing terror on a budget but the bulk of the store is good- to high-quality items that you can (and will) use for a long time. I knew buying a bagged costume, the quality wasn't going to be great. But it seemed like a safe bet. It wasn't. This store sold me a USED costume AT FULL PRICE. It had been BADLY PATCHED BY HAND sewing (BLUE THREAD!, as if I wouldn't notice the knots and shoddy patch job on a black costume). I am PISSED! I am a size 4 but had to buy a medium because it was either that or a large. And yet the costume TORE IN HALF the first time I tried it on. I paid full price (over $85) for something WORN and DAMAGED. There was even blonde hair stuck in the Velcro. I am DISGUSTED!!! Gotta drag them down a few stars due to the pricing. I came here seeking Freddy Kruger figures, and while I did find them, I also found them to be totally overpriced. I have a big problem with paying double what anywhere else would charge. That was the case with almost anything that I had picked up here. They have alot of nice things, they are just too ridiculous with what they are asking for. 11x17 horror reprints for $20 each. I can't even BEGIN to express my love for this store. It has everything I love. Halloween. Horror films. Theme parks. Everything that people geek about is there. Great location on Magnolia in Burbank. Never a problem with parking (street and parking lot). Very large store, since they've moved all the costumes to a SEPARATE location next door (about 3 stores down). Once you walk in, it's like a dimly lit mini theme park. A different horror film is playing loudly every time. There is thunder and lighting. An old haunted house facade. It's wonderful and spooky. It makes me happy every time! My gf and I have driven by this place a million times. Why we never went in is a mystery because this store is AMAZING! There are 2 different stores. A gift store and a costume store right down the street from each other. We haven't been to the costume store yet but when we do I will let you know how that goes. Have been in this location a few times over the years and today was my last. Went in to get some wigs and there was only one girl working the counter helping another guest. She didn't acknowledge me what so ever or try to assist me or get help. I stood there with not even a glance. It's sad as no one was as cash register for me to ask for assistance so I left and taking my business elsewhere from now one. To the girl on the phone who wouldn't give me her name. Obviously you didn't want to give me your name because you like to hide behind the phone lines so you can act rude. I called about an online order status. It has been more than seven days since I placed this order only to find out they were out of stock. I received no cancellation, no notifications about anything regarding my order. Her only response was that they are a small business (which she repeated several times) and they pull off from the shelf so it depends on what they have left. Really?? As a small business if your going to offer on line shopping then you need to set aside items separately for online orders and items sold in person at the store. How do you even allow it to be put into cart and check out and then wait to see if you get lucky? I supported this store, even almost worked here at one point. I know how retail can be and I know how rude customers can get. I worked retail as a manager for 15 + years. You have the ability not to be rude to customers. I had a valid reason. I asked why my order was never sent or at least notified of any updates and asked why do they run thing's this way and this is the response and attitude I get. Saying you're a small business is no excuse, and if that's the issue then don't offer online ordering. If your at that point of rudeness then maybe its time for another job. She could of transferred me to a manager or figured out how to resolve my problem but instead she hung up. Does she forget that people can go into the store as well? I can't imagine how she would have been in person. I had to call the OTHER store to speak to a supervisor because after she hung up I called back and no one would answer, I mean how pathetic is that? The fact that your store already has plenty of bad reviews you'd think you make an effort to better your employees to stay in business. UPDATE....... Visited the new store. OMFG! I love it. It's ten x better than the old location. She has managed to find an incredibly huge venue in Burbank that accommodates her every whim for creepy decorating. My favorite room? The Haunted Mansion Room. Very richly decorated. I want absolutely everything in that room. Aside from the changing pictures on the walls. I already have them. Next to that room is the cemetery. I REALLY want the thunder and lightning set up she has in that room. And the tombstones aren't too shabby either! It is truly a pleasure walking through it. Go! I love this place so much I am on her mailing list so I never miss anything! Check out the upstairs costumes. I have found a few gems in between the duds more than once. The horror!! So I'm a huge fan of horror and this place is visually beautiful. There are a few lovely knick-knacks to decorate your abode with. The possessed pictures being my favorite. The tombstones being my second favorite. If you crave a morbid decor they have many surprises waiting. The skull salt and pepper shakers are so much fun! The metal signs are also a fun accessory for your office or den. And....this might be just me but I believe everyone should have a haunted mansion plaque hanging somewhere in their homes....okay I think that IS just me. I'm also on the lookout for funeral car stickers or funeral flags but I haven't asked her if she would keep her eyes open for those yet. She is so accommodating that she will do searches for customers that can't find certain items and I think that is rare. Also, if you can, get on her website to search ahead of time. Not only do they have an incredible selection, the store itself is just plain cool! Really neat ambiance. I swear I could spend all day in there. I've always had very good customer service. The no cell phone rule IS a bit odd, but something I can easily look over. The only thing to be wary of is they DO tend to hike up prices. A lot. Today I noticed they had a skeleton that had been sold at Costco for about 30 bucks. They were selling it for $130. And yet, other items are very affordable. I was pretty impressed with Halloween Town. Less than a week before Halloween and its packed but tons of great costumes available still. They had a lot of workers every few steps who were friendly and helpful (i only wish there was some way to tell that they worked there and not a customer). You could try on the costumes (with their help of opening the packages) but in between the isles and in front of people (on top of your clothes). The workers were helpful, one went out of his way to try to put together a costume for me because they didnt carry the actual one i was looking for. The line was long but not too bad and moved quickly. They have costumes, wigs, make up, masks, props, pretty much everything. I think google maps leads you to their other store that has more of decoration and props but no costumes. The costume store is 6 stores down, and across from another halloween costume store. You wont need to check out the place across the street because most likely you'll find one here! Parking in the back or on the street. read more

I absolutely love this place, but was very disappointed with the level of professionalism I witnessed today. My father and I decided to spend some time together and drove about an hour just to come and visit. Since my father has a serious medical condition, he is unable to wear a face mask, and instead wears a face shield (that reaches far below the chin and past the ears). The employee at the door initially did not want to let my father in, but after briefly explaining the situation, he was very understanding and gladly let us in. About 1 minute later, another employee, named Maria, approached us and informed my father that he was not allowed to shop in the store while wearing only a face shield. My father tried explaining his situation, but Maria explained that customers must wear a face mask "regardless if they have a medical condition." Shortly after, my father was escorted out by a fellow employee. I completely understand the face mask policy, but the way in which the situation was handled was totally out of line and unprofessional in every way. My father and I were absolutely appalled by this employee's tone of speaking and the fact that she ultimately dismissed my father's health condition. Needless to say, my day did not turn out as planned and I will not be returning here anytime soon. read more

I wish I can leave this place 0 stars because they don't deserve even 1 star. So my friend and I came here to find a costume and it's my first time going there so i don't know their rules and policies. First of all, they literally treat you like you're savage. They had very cute costumes and I was excited to try them on until one of the workers had to ruin it for us. So an employee comes up to us and tells us we have too many costumes in our hand and that we can only try on two at a time. Also they don't have fitting rooms so we have to try it on over our clothes!! I don't understand what kind of a rule that is. You're spending more than $100 on a costume and you can't even see what it looks like on you?How would I know what it looks like over my clothes? Not sure why they don't have a fitting room but I'm assuming there lazy to clean everything and organize. So it just gets better, I'm standing there with my friend trying to figure out which two costumes to try on. As I'm figuring it out two of them fell on the floor and one of them I put back but I put it in front of another costume. So another employee creeps up on us and says "do you need assistance" and we said no. She said oh because you're making a mess putting costumes back into the wrong place. I told her I'm sorry. Then she said also you can only have two costumes. We said yes we know that that's why we're trying to figure out which one we want. She still continues and says you're making a mess here. She was just babbling away and at this point this girl was clearly testing my patience. I even said sorry when I didn't have to because, first of all I wasn't making a mess I was trying to make a decision and sorry but that's your job clean it up if it's a mess!! So, I told her you know what you don't talk to people like that I'm human and you need to treat me people how you would want to be treated. I asked her who the manager is for the store, and her response was "I'm the manager." Oh really?? Your the manager? Wow what kind of management is that. So I asked her what her name was and she started spelling it out for me Yesenia Sanchez. I also asked her for the owners name and she refused to give it to me. She said "good luck finding her and you can go ahead and complain I don't care" She also said If you don't like our rules you can leave and snatched the costumes from my hand! So I went to the register so I can find out the owners name and she followed me telling all the employees to ignore me. Then out of nowhere this security guy that was probably my height didn't even look like a security comes up to me and tells me and my friend that we have to leave. Ended up at this spot looking for a last minute costume fix for Halloween, probably about 20 minutes before closing time. Even though it was packed and people were being ushered to the cashiers, the store associates were really helpful and nice. They allow you to try on the costumes and help you with all the zippers and ties. It's a little impersonal since you just put the costume on over your clothes in the middle of the store, but they make sure you are happy with what you are putting on. They had a really good selection of both ready-made costumes-in-a-bag as well as separates. There was a wide range of budget options, so it is a good chance that you will find something. They have some higher quality accessories (i.e. real earrings vs. clip-ons) and cool hat section. I definitely left this place with gypsy costume in hand. read more

I am a fervent halloween and horror lover, and I crave it all year long, probably more than a vampire craves blood. halloween town, most definitely, feeds this craving, and does it well. it's basically a haunted house (with a morbid sense of humor) that decided that it needed to have a garage sale. it's the best garage sale ever! tons of horror movie paraphernalia, including jackets, hats, accessories, toys, and T-SHIRTS! I get many of my horror shirts here; they have such a vast selection. and they're quality shirts, might I add. many unique designs usually only found on the internet can be found here. they also have a nice stock of halloween/horror décor and costumes (women get their own section upstairs), masks, wigs, and any other kind of accessory you might need to give your costume the perfect finishing touch. they have also just recently added an art gallery (called "the parlour") to their store, which has hosted a number of creepy-cool events. my only gripe about this store is: they are expensive! it's most likely due to the fact that they are a halloween store that is open year round, not a seasonal store that makes a profit only in october, and this is probably their only way of ensuring the chances that their business stays open longer. example: a shirt I saw for $12 on one website was $20 here! but I suppose if you account for shipping, it's not so bad... this place truly is "halloween town", and I never mind taking a visit. Great staff I read there was trumpers in here but I strictly came to support Rob Zombie. Everyone In the store front asked if I needed help and felt fully comfortable walking around and feeling the entire store in less than 30 mins. Bought a creepshow t shirt and expected to spend about 100$ here the next time I can spare enough $$ for creepshow, Halloween III, rob zombie, and the twilight zone merch. The best part of the entire store is the dimly lit and Erie vibe from all the sound fx. I biked about an hour from k town to come here and was not disappointed. Halloween store open year round? ooook??? Well you see this isnt just a place to get a dracula costume for jr, and a chopped off hand for your haunted house, this is a store dedicated to everything to feed that dark half of yourself. Books, toys, original art, clothes, TONS of t- shirts of some of the greatest horror movies, dvd's, busts, buckles, patches, pins, collectibles, purses, home decorations. Its a shame that they dont allow pictures of the inside because its a real gold mine for horror hounds and terror nuts like myself. Until I visited this store I always thought of myself as one of those people who are "really really hard to shop for!" but, i'm really not! I'll take everything and anything from in here! read more

I've been here a few times and each time I leave wishing I had more money. They have everything from clothing, books, DVDs, purses, toys, decorations and novelties. Everything is highly collectible and good for displaying. The employees are kind and helpful and there is a free museum in the back of the store. NO PICTURES ALLOWED and NO CELL PHONE use of any kind either! HA HA I guess they got tired of people coming in a taking pictures and not buying anything. This place blows my mind! I really appreciate this store because I am a total Halloween nerd! They are open 365 and have some of the most upscale Halloween home decor I have ever seen. 6 doors down is the costume store. Both stores have everything and then some. I'm really diggin the home decor store, some of the artwork they have for sale is incredible (and expensivo!). It's dark, cold and spooky and the employees are the nice kind of creeps. They have creepy baby onsies and some stuff for kids too. They play the Pee-Wee's Big Adventure soundtrack in the store. Haha! read more
