I really really want to give this Salon 5 stars but my nails look like a 7 year old painted them. Maybe it was a sign when I was able to get in the same day I called for an appt and all the other salons in the area were booked? The owner was the nicest gal. Then it got rough. What nail salon doesn't have the correct tools to remove Gel polish these days? It took her 40 minutes just to get my old polish off. She didn't trim my cuticles at all. I do keep my nails tidy but they can always use some touch ups. Then the new polish job is chunky, splotchy and looks horrible. She sent me packing with a steep bill and not even a moisturizer on my hands to counteract all that drying Acetone. They even still felt sticky and a little gooey when I left. Maybe because the ultra violet light was so weak that I had to put my nails in 4 times between coats? Sorry for the not so great review but you may need glasses and a new bottle of polish??? What salon doesn't have Bubble Bath for a color option? I had to go pink and now I need to pay a different salon 50$ for a color change and repaint. read more

Haley took my dark brown hair to a honey blonde, and guess what? My hair is not dead. My hair is luxurious. I never thought I could get to SO BLONDE in one go, but the magic of Haley at Biz truly stunned me. She is a hairstylist so scrumtrulescent, I can barely move. She showed me what products to use for my newly tawny locks, and even gave me a sample of some shampoo and conditioner. After given a 1 hour notice that my appointment was canceled at Evan Todd Salon at the Conrad, I scrambled to find a place within the hour that could take me. My original appointment had been booked many days in advance and Evan Todd could not find a replacement stylist or offer any type of explanation as to why my appointment was canceled. I found Biz on Fletcher after a mad search for another Aveda Salon that I felt had a good reputation (based on other reviews). Boy did I really luck it, not only did they do an amazing job on my hair (which is A LOT of work) but they really go out of their way to make you pampered and comfortable. I hate going to a salon for a haircut. Yet, consistently, I find that's where I get the best cut and the best service. I like it when someone can discuss options with me, go over the pros and cons of any change I'm considering, and give me advice that considers my hair over their revenue. That being said, I've found Kat at Biz on Fletcher to be the perfect stylist. She really listens. She gives me plenty of options and let's me know what really makes the most sense for me. Sure, there's the massage and the facial, which are certainly nice add-ons, but what ultimately matters is how I look and feel when I walk out the door. Now, I'm a grumpy old man with a serious cowlick so there's a limit to what can be done with this mess. Still, Kat always has me looking my best and feeling confident by the time I leave. Had a hair cut and all over highlights. They was very nice and got me in quickly. The cut is great I took off over a foot of hair! And I been getting so many compliments. I just still want to get my hair a few shades lighter. So I have to pay another 200$ to get it done again in a week. Probably not kats fault I was just expecting to be way blonder when I was done. I started going to Biz when I moved to Indianapolis in 2008, and I'm still going there even though I moved to Virginia! I make sure to make an appointment as soon as I know I'm going to be in town, because they're just that wonderful. My husband and I usually see Miranda, but Marta cut our hair when we made last-minute in-town appointments. They're both fabulous, seriously talented, and able create compliment-inducing styles like you wouldn't believe. They're also great at eyebrow waxes, color and just about everything else. For our June wedding, we had Marta and Miranda do the hair and/or makeup for me, the bridesmaids and the mothers of the bride and groom. It was a lot of work, which they did in an impressive amount of time, and we all looked stunning. I hate, hate, hate giving one star reviews! But, if anything in the whole world has ever warranted a one star review, this is the one. I booked Biz on Fletcher in December 2015 to do my hair and makeup, along with my bridal party's hair and makeup, for my wedding in July 2016. At that point, Ginger was a complete pleasure to work with and very accommodating. Then, in May 2016, I contacted Biz on Fletcher to confirm times for hair and makeup, and I was told that due to staffing issues, they could no longer do any of our makeup. Okay... not ideal, but I'm reasonable, and made other arrangements. Then, just a few days ago, in June -- ONE month before my wedding, I received an EMAIL from Ginger saying that, "I'm very sorry, but we've had more staff quit, and we can no longer accommodate your wedding party." :O WHAAA..? I called the salon and spoke to Robb, beginning in what I believe was a rational tone on my end. Robb immediately began yelling at me, shouting, "What do you expect me to do?!". When I tried to talk, he interrupted me, asking "Do you not hear me?! What do you want me to do?! We can't do it anymore." He wouldn't talk to me, he wouldn't work with me - all he would do is yell at me. I have honestly never in my life experienced such a complete and utter lack of customer service skills. Ladies, if you're planning your wedding, run.. I say RUN from this place. I do not know what is going on behind the scenes with Biz on Fletcher. They have lost three staff members in the last month, but if Robb treats them like he treated me on the phone, I am not at all surprised that they've left. What a completely terrible experience. Thanks so much to Kimmi who suggested I go here and Haley who chopped my hair back off!!! I came on a Saturday for a noon appointment, I only scheduled on Weds. so that was nice not to have to wait awhile to get in. I was greeted by a lovely receptionist who had me fill out some paperwork about my hair etc etc. Once Haley was done with her customer she took my coat and hung it up, gave me a tour of the renovated building, which has a wonderful history and is super adorable!! She explained all cuts get a chair massage and mini facial.WHAT?! A massage?!!! Since my hubby lacks those back rubbin' skills I was pretty excited. Other than that, Haley looked at the photos I brought in (I had a power point slide-overdone? maybe. but whateves.). She and I discussed my hair and my recently ok haircuts and my lack of commitment on growing out my hair. So we decided to go sexy soft pixie. She spent some serious time and concentration on making my hair look a-mazing. So thanks to Haley for the awesome 'do and to the staff who chatted with my about the Super Bowl while I got my four inches chopped off. I've had two happy hair appointments here. Both times, my hair has turned out lovely and exactly as I had requested. Tons of compliments followed. However, I cannot get over the fact that the mirrors are so high that you can't watch the stylist as he or she is snipping away. I don't trust anyone that much, sorry! How do I know whether you're doing a "light trim" as I asked, or whether you're taking a chain saw to my long locks and leaving me a with chin length bob? No idea until the damage is done. I can't see whether you're using normal scissors or those toothy shear things that make my hair puff into a frizz ball. I can't watch you style my hair and replicate your awesome moves at home. If I can't replicate it, my hair will look like shit, and when my pals comment on my shitty 'do, I will have to explain that Biz on Fletcher cut my hair but didn't teach me how to style it -- because that's exactly what's happening when I can't watch my stylist. If you're less OCD than I am and are fine with someone basically turning you around like they do on What Not to Wear and surprising you with a new look, then give this place a try -- I'm sure you'll be pleased with your hair. I always love going here. Miriam is my stylist and can't say enough nice things about her and the entire crew. Everyone is very down to earth and really friendly. I feel so comfortable here. I'm one of those super indecisive over-protective hair people and this place really does it for me. I love getting a complimentary back massage and mini facial with my cut. It really puts the icing on top. I also absolutely love Aveda products so I'm sure that helps too. I have never been disappointed when leaving and actually get more and more excited after I see my haircut in my own mirror. I recommend this place to anyone wanting to try a new salon or who has just moved to Indy. (Back of mind: I'm meeting John Waters later in the night and I need to look perfect-perfect-perfect so you're 1 of only a few salons I can trust at this point so, please, help. 11:02am: "Yes, Miriam, at 245, you're set." 2:45pm: It begins. 3:00: I'm relaxed 3:18: I'm really relaxed as it seems they know what they're doin' (yeehaw!). 3:30: Oh poof... we're going to have to skip the mini-facial because we've run out of time in cutting the baby honey badger that's attached to my head. 3:45: Could you take off the second growth of a honey badger real quick.... 4:01: Whoa... you did this in a record time and it's *exactly* what I wanted. 7:37: John Waters was impressed. In December I got a really bad haircut and most of it was my own doing. I gave the stylist (a close and very dear friend) a bunch of photos to look at on my tiny phone and state "THIS is what I want." Unfortunately "this" wasn't very clear as all the photos were very different. The outcome caused me to have nightmares about angry hair chasing me down the street and everytime I looked in the mirror my eyes would well up with tears. I blame my 8lb. weight gain from the depression I felt after this haircut. And I don't know what it is about hair stylists but I always feel bad if I have to go back to have my hair fixed. AND remember this is a close friend and I felt like I was going to hurt her feelings if I told her how awful I felt. Last week I decided I couldn't take it anymore, I had to do something about the monstrosity that was laying on my head. Since I pass by Biz every morning on my way to work I thought what perfect timing to check this salon out. Excellent reviews, convenient location and I actually have some money to spare this month. I have been going here for about a year, after hopping around to find that perfect stylist and I found her, Miriam is fantastic! I don't usually go in with a game plan, yet she can almost read my mind and give me exactly what I need. Since it's an Aveda salon, you get a hand/neck massage and a mini-facial, which is always a treat :) I also feel the need to mention, there was a time when I didn't have anyone to watch my 6yo daughter. I brought her with me and Miriam was so great with her, gave her a hand massage, talked to her, etc. In a salon setting, I was not expecting that and it was a pleasant surprise. Since joining Yelp, I have waited for an experience deserving of my first review. Biz on Fletcher, you won. I recently got in one of those "I have to cut my hair" moods. My hair stylist of fifteen years was out of town. I was lost. Until, of course, Yelp saved the day with Biz on Fletcher. I saw all of the fabulous reviews, and they were spot-on. Haley gave me a tour of their precious salon, offered me a drink, gave me a quick scalp massage and mini-facial. This was all prior to getting the big bouncy "pageant hair" I had been looking for. New hair stylists can be worse than first dates. Super awkward silence with a weird "I may never see you again" ending. Not this time. Haley and I chatted like old friends. I told her my life story and she told me hers. I am going to take vitamins so my hair grows fast because I cannot wait to return. Oh, and did I mention it was only $35? Wonderful people. I had a really great cut here and enjoyed the complimentary message. I recently moved from the large metropolitan city with exorbitant prices for hair cuts, so I was utterly astounded by how reasonable this salon was. It will absolutely keep me coming back. One gripe: the mirrors in front of each station are placed really high on the wall. When my hair was being cut and styled I couldn't see what was going on. I felt really really uncomfortable having my hair cut and not being able to see what was going on. I also like to see how the stylist dries my hair so I can replicated the style at home, but with the high mirrors I couldn't see what she was doing. I will definitely go back, but I really wish the mirror situation could be remedied. Edit:I've been back and decided that the mirror situation just can not work for me. I was on edge the whole time my cut was happening that it ended up being a rather stressful experience. On to a new salon, one where I can preferably see my hair cut taking place. read more

What a wonderful experience! I went to Biz on Saturday for an hour facial and eyebrow arch. I can honestly say it was the best facial I have ever had. Susan asked me about my skin type, issues, etc. and customized my facial to me. She further added to the customization by asking my mood and having me choose a sent to be added into the products being used. The facial included a foot scrub, hand, and foot massage! It was so relaxing and two days later my skin is still feeling the effects! My eyebrow wax was equally enjoyable. I didn't really need them "shaped" as much as I just needed the tiny blonde hairs removed. Great job! As an aded bonus, Susan gave me the eyebrow was free since she had to do so little work on them! Spa-la-la-loved it! I had the pleasure of attending the Yelp event at Biz on Fletcher. I have never felt so pampered. The paraffin wax dip brought back memories of my 12 year old self destroying all of the candles in the house to make one awesome 'hand candle', but it left my hands oh so soft. I swear I must look like I am making terrible evil plans as much as I keep rubbing them together. So soft. Marta did a lovely job waxing my eyebrows. These arches belong in St.Louis! Sorry, I feel so good in my newly pampered skin that I am probably overestimating the hilariousness of my comments. My pores are just so happy. This salon is in a great area, close to downtown and fountain square, and a beautiful historic building. The staff is warm, inviting, and very accommodating. DO NOT GET NAIL SERVICES HERE (review for hair service is separate) I hate to give a bad review to a well-rated local business, but today I had the worst mani/pedi of my life--including self-administerd services--for the following reasons: 1) Of the two massage/pedicure chairs, one wasn't working. The other (working) chair was already in use, so at first I didn't sweat it. But it turns out that the recipient of the pedicure next to me was an EMPLOYEE/stylist at Biz (Marta). I cannot believe that another employee sat one foot away from me, receiving a full service pedicure with the new, fully-functioning equipment, while I, the paying customer, did not. Not good business practices. At all. 2) In the Fall I my left big toe was bruised badly. Half of my toenail has grown out new, but the top half is still healing. Ginger (co-owner and my "nail tech" for the day), wiggled the top half and pulled at it until it was coming off of my skin (which didn't hurt). But, WITHOUT ASKING ME, she got nail glue and GLUED MY DEAD NAIL ONTO MY HEALING SKIN WITH ACRYLIC NAIL GLUE! For the record: no, Ginger, I appreciate the thought, but I would rather allow my injury to heal naturally, without covering it with Ethyl Cyanoacrylate, BHA, and Hydroxypropyl Methacrylate (all of which are toxic to SKIN and/or carcinogenic). 3) There was no filing, buffing, or cuticle treatment. When I go to a salon I'm looking for tools (and skills) to be used that I don't have at home--I am able to moisturize my hands and clip & paint my nails on my own. When Ginger asked about the ridges in my thumb nails, I told her that happens because other manicurists (or myself) had buffed the nail smooth and the ridge forms when the nail grows out again. Upon this advice, she removed the four layers of nail polish she'd already applied, buffed my nails, and reapplied the four layers of polish--just on those two thumb nails. I shouldn't have to tell the co-owner of a well-rated beauty salon how to smooth down a fingernail. 4) The polish job was awful. I honestly did a better job at painting my own nails when I was nine years old. There was polish on my cuticles (which were still there because there was no cuticle treatment), there were parts of my nail still showing, there were clumps in the polish, there were pieces of fuzz and hair stuck in the polish, and the rough, un-filed tips of my nails stuck out beyond the polish. When I looked down at my nails I honestly was about to cry. Which is kind of pitiful and embarrassing, but I'm not quite Scrooge McDuck here. I hadn't splurged on a professional manicure in almost a year, and a $30 manicure when there are other places all around town that do a decent mani/pedi for $35? I expected so much more, and I was so disappointed. Before I paid I told Ginger how upset I was with my manicure, and she offered to redo it, but I was honest and told her that I'd rather go home and redo it myself. She didn't charge me for the manicure in the end, but it still took me two hours to fix my fingernails when I got home. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do about the nail glue on my injured toe yet... What a shame. read more

I had a complementary scalp and shoulder massage which was a great start to my appointment. (The eucalyptus and peppermint oil was wonderful!!) She used a razor to cut my hair- I've only had one other stylist ever use a razor- which was perfect for the cut that I got. My new style is drastically different, but I love it! I found Biz on Fletcher after seeing a feature on 'Who does your hair?' in Indianapolis Monthly several years ago. There was a girl with a cute cut from a stylist at Biz on Fletcher. I called to make an appointment with her, and though she wasn't available during my limited availability, I decided to go with their suggestion of Marta for my cut. And I've never gone anywhere else since. Marta has done everything from a pixie cut to a bob to long long mermaid hair to an undercut to highlights to single-process color to a bang trim. I like to bring in pictures on my phone to show her my ideas, but always end with "I trust whatever suggestions you have". She has never led me astray. Aside from competence, I think it's important to find a stylist you actually like. It's easy to chat with Marta. We have some similar interests and share Netflix recommendations. As for hair, I appreciate that she really listens and will make adjustments at the end if I need my bangs shorter, for example. It's not my thing, but it's worth noting that the salon offers free bonuses with the haircut, including a scalp massage, mini facial and shoulder massage. Prices are very reasonable. Those, along with Marta herself, kept me coming back to Biz on Fletcher while I lived in Brooklyn for years. I made a point to schedule appointments while I was home. That's how great they are. I asked around for a place to get my eyebrows done, and Biz On Fletcher was the recommendation. So I headed there (sans appointment -- I forgot to call ahead!). The owners, Ginger and Rob, were there. Ginger was so gracious and took care of me immediately! She asked a few requisite questions (my preference about shape, how much arching, etc.) and I asked her to do whatever she felt would best frame my face. And she did! It was the quickest and mildest eyebrow waxing I've ever had done, and I'm super happy with the results! I second Alison C.: The prices are great and the building IS awesome (even more-so once you flip through the album of renovation pics). There's a designated area for each service, and the spaces are so open, calming and inviting -- and yeah, it does really smell good in there! Can't wait to go back!! read more

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Spa La La hosted by Brittany of Yelp Indy and Biz on Fletcher Salon and Day Spa. This was an amazing event! When I walked inside the Biz, I was very suprised. From the outside it has a rustic, quaint feel but the inside is very trendy. When I walked in the door the first thing I did was grab a Skinny Girl cucumber cocktail - delicious! From there I went to get a chair massage, which was fabulous, and discovered that this salon actually gives complimentary chair massages and well as mini-facials with any hair service. What a score! Naturally, after finding out this great information, I had to try the mini-facial. I'm a very low maintenance when it comes to skin care (maybe not the best?) so the hot steam towel was annoying me at first, but I loved how fresh my skin looked after the facial. At this point, the event was starting to get more full so I decided to go refill my cucumber cocktail and also grab a plate of some of the appetizers that La Margarita and Pure Eatery had provided. The food was good, but the guacamole was out of this world good. Seriously - I saw almost everyone go back for seconds. After gorging on chips and guac, I decided it was time for a little more pampering. I headed back to the other end of the salon, where they were offering hand massages and paraffin treatments, polish changing, and brow arching. Since the line for the brow arching was the shortest, I chose to do that first. My brows look great, and the woman who assisted me was friendly, funny, and gave me some good tips on trimming eyebrows. I would definitely return, even just for waxing alone. I decided not to get a polish change at this event. First, because I had no polish on to change; second, because I have no nails. :( I did see several other ladies getting their nails painted and I liked the selection of colors available, although I did not see too many displayed. My first paraffin treatment was last night and I couldn't help be reminded me of playing in the fresh, warm candle wax of my grandmother's candles as a child. I liked the paraffin wax, but I am not sure if I would pay for this treatment as I only noticed a difference in my skin's appearance and softness for a very limited time after the treatment. This event was so much fun, and I got to meet and converse with so many cool ladies that night. I will definitely be attending the Yelp Paints the Town Red event at the Mavris next Thursday. Now I'm not one to usually get worked up about my hair, but I specifically told my stylist I did not want layers and explained myself as to why. What did she do? She gave me layers anyways. She also curled my hair before even allowing me to see the cut on my natural straight hair so I didn't get to see what she had done until two days later when I washed my hair again. The top layer hits me at my shoulder which normally I would just cut my hair all that length to fix it, but I'm getting married in a few months. I take pride in my long hair and I wanted it long for my wedding. We discussed the length and she got that part right, but in my mind these short layers are irreparable in time for my wedding. I had been meaning to check out Biz for a very long time. Full disclosure: I knew Ginger and her family -- I was in her daughter's girl scout troop back in the day -- but we had lost touch over the years and I only recently reconnected with them. But also it's an Aveda salon, so I knew they would have quality products, and the convenience--it is just outside of downtown (Fletcher Place) and has been on my way to work for a while. Every morning I would think, "why haven't I checked them out?" What ultimately helped me make the leap from my (pricey) downtown hairdresser to Biz was my former hairdresser didn't do Saturday appointments--and I needed someone to do my hair for my wedding party last October. I could have gone to just anyone at his salon, but the haircuts, though convenient and always well done and worth the cost, were a once in a while experience. I was afraid Biz would already be booked up (I called to schedule a month or two out...) and they had the availability. They were so helpful every step of the way--even when I ended up using a friend for my makeup on my big day--but based on the test run by Marta, I would have totally trusted them to do my makeup if I didn't have an old friend do it. My hair looked fantastic--1940s-inspired pin curls by Ginger (who was very patient with me and wanted to be sure I looked great and was happy with the results)--and my bridesmaids and mom all enjoyed their services and looked great. The shorter haired friends got manis or pedis instead of up-'dos and loved their experiences (my sister and I also got mani-pedis the day before and also had great outcomes). Even getting my brows done leading up to my wedding--my least favorite part of pampering--was as painless as possible. A few weeks after my wedding, I was ready to chop off the hair I had been growing out and I've been seeing Susan ever since. I always get compliments from friends and coworkers in the days after she does my hair. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment and doing something more daring with my color... or maybe I'll just make an excuse to go in sooner. Oh, and they do have Saturday hours--so convenient and when I usually go there. (And PS--the haircuts are just over HALF the cost of my previous stylist but equal or better in quality. After having waited about a month too long to make my appointment, I finally called for my appointment. I told them when I made the appointment that I NEEDED COLOR URGENTLY. I made my appointment with Susan for a Wednesday afternoon, even though it wasn't the best for my availability. (Desperate times call for desperate measures,) Susan called me on Tuesday and asked me if I wanted to come in because she knew this was a better time for me. YES! I will be there within the hour! Not only did Biz On Fletcher go out of their way to make my appointment, my hair color turned out perfectly. I hated my hair! When I walked in, I was ready to cut it all off!! Kat saved me! She suggested a few things and showed me some styling tips. She took her time and constantly showed me what she was doing. I'm very happy with the results and had several compliments today!! I definitely will return and bring my partner! read more

I was loooong overdue for a trim and based on the reviews on Yelp, I was really excited to check this place out. Went in on a Friday during the day and it was fairly quiet with just a few other patrons in the salon. The stylist starts out by giving you a tour of the salon and describe all the services offered. Next, my stylist offered a complimentary mini facial and massage. Here's where thay lose about a half star--the massage was done in one of those chairs where you are face down and are resting your face on a plastic cushion, which countless other people have also used. I have had massages in chairs like this before and usually, there is some sort of towel or something so you are not actually pressing your face against the plastic cushion, they did not do this here. The next thing I noticed, with my face planted downward and thus, prime viewing of the floor, the level of dirt and old hair everywhere. On the massage chair, floor, side of the walls. That really suprised me, since the owners have gone to such great lengths to restore an old building and make it beautiful. It looked like at least a few days worth of hair. After that, I told the stylist I wanted to skip the facial and just get straight to the haircut. Onto the haircut-I also find it incredibly odd that the chair sits so low that you cannot see yourself and more importantly, what the stylist is doing when she is snipping away at your treasured locks. Quickest haircut I had ever received. The Stylist did not give me layers I had expected,and was hard to tell what was going on until the blow dry and style and I was able to see myself in the mirror again. Please note, I am quite conflicted because I actually really liked the stylist, She was was super nice and easy to talk to, as well as the owners, and the salon itself is cute and in an old historic building in Fletcher Place and I also love Aveda products. Maybe if they maintained the cleanliness and corrected or explained that wierd mirror thing, I might go back. I was expecting a bit more layering throughout my hair, but since I couldn't see anything until she had dried and styled my hair (again because of the mirror thing) I just said that it was fine (me being too polite I guess). I will perhaps return again after a while..as everyone deserves a second chance especially since the overall vibe of the place is good. A few tweaks is all that's really needed I'm sure. read more

I was in desperate need of my hair colored and cut after i dyed my hair red and was ready to be blonde again! I searched around on the Internet looking for someplace/someone who would take their time and knew what they are doing. I was very excited when i came upon Biz on Fletcher. the environment there is very open and has a lot of light! It has a wonderful downtown Indy feel! I was Introduce to Miriam! she was extremely professional and made me feel comfortable in her chair! she talked me through my consultation, and i am very thankful I have found great hairstylist!!! read more

I've been going to this place for almost 2 years now and I love it. I get my hair cut and highlighted here on a regular basis by Miriam. She is a wonderful stylist who is easy to chat with and interactions with her never feel forced. My mom gets her hair done by Marta who is extremely talented at short hair and who is also super sweet. Before I found biz, I frequented two other upscale downtown salons and either found myself having the same conversation with my stylist for the fifth time or ending up with orange hair as the stylist would not believe me when I told them my hair pulls super warm. At biz, regardless of who your stylist is, they will listen to you and treat you as an individual. read more
