After years of chronic pain and endless trips to massage parlors, acupuncturists, chiropractors, you name it, I've tried it all in the name of back pain. I found him by coincidence as I was driving to a friend's house in Dyker Heights. The name on the awning caught my eye; Compassion Chiropractic. A few weeks later, I went online and filled out a form for a free consultation. Upon arrival, Michelle, one of the receptionists/assistants, assisted me with forms and explaining things to me. She is a sweetheart, just like all the other ladies who work there. They are soft-spoken, courteous, and attentive. Dr. Li is not far off from the ladies in demeanor and service. He is kind, soft-spoken, and knowledgeable in his field. During my consultation, he used a MyoVision tool to scan my spine. No chiropractor has ever done that before; after that, he explained the results and did an x-ray. The x-ray showed that I have scoliosis both in my neck and upper back. I have done MRI's before seeing Dr. Li, which have shown where I have herniated discs, but I have never had doctors do x-rays to see my spine. Needles to say, I was shocked to see the state of my spine. In Dr. Li's words, after seeing my x-ray," you're in a lot of pain." Dr. Li then told me what he offered. I am now two months into my treatments called Life-Changing Plan: Express ( 13 weeks = 26 adjustments). I have never felt better. I see Dr. Li twice a week, and it's been a blessing. I am looking forward to seeing how my spine is after my treatment is completed. Besides the adjustments, where he barely touches you but touches you :) (his touch is gentle and not aggressive like all the other chiropractors I've seen before). There is a massage chair that they put you in after the adjustments, the greatest invention on earth. He also treated my ankle, which I'd twisted months before, with laser therapy. Seeing Dr. Li improves my spine and helps the pain in the ass tennis elbow I've had for almost 2yrs now. The only downfall is that it is cash only but let me tell you that it is worth it. They give a discount if you pay it all upfront, which is what I went for. Otherwise, they have payment plan options. Once I am done with treatment, I will post pics of my before and after X-rays. Do yourself a favor and see Dr. Li if you've been living with pain like I was. I recommend reading his Google reviews.

His network is strong and he can easily refer pain management specialists, orthapoedists, etc. The massage therpists Julie and Daniel are really helpful as well. They are skilled at recommending exercises also. I attend two to three times a week. Parking is easy to find 85% of the time, either in the lot or on the street. I can't tell you how much I miss her. She was not only my chiropractor, she was my friend. We had lovely talks upon my visits for adjustments. She is very caring of her patients' health and has so much love in her heart. Out here in PA, I have seen a few chiropractors before I found a good one. He's good, but I don't have the same relationship with him as I had with Dr. Ellen as he is not as thorough as she was with her adjustments. Dr. Stern truly has hands of gold. Before my appointment, I could barely move, couldn't bend, nothing. After my visit, I was mobile, I can squat, I could bend, I was feeling so much relief. Why is he a class act? Tbh when you need a chiropractor it is mostly in an emergency situation. Anyway this place is walk in only and cash only $30 for adults and $15 for kids. I came in because due to severe coughing my right back side was in pain. The first time Dd. Mendez couldn't do much but I went to him 4 days straight and it has improved a lot. Although this is walk in only but I only waited 30 mins when the waiting area is full so I wouldn't be discouraged if you walk in to a full room. He is great and I even brought my two kids there just for some fine tuning adjustments. Many have gone to him so I am glad I can just walk in and get treated and also unlike some other chiropractors he doesn't upsale anything while I am there. It is an adjustment no massage and that's it. No frill chiropractor.

During that visit, Melinda Keller reviewed my intake forms and sent me for three X-rays before continuing the consultation. I was required to pay $125.00 for the X-rays that day. After reviewing the results, I was presented with an approximately $7,000 out-of-pocket treatment plan. When I asked how my progress would be measured and what specific improvements I should expect, I left feeling that my questions had not been clearly answered. The office also felt very high-volume, with one assistant caring for numerous patients, on different machines at the same time. Having previously worked for a chiropractor, I left feeling that the experience was more focused on selling a treatment plan than on individualized care. After my visit, I posted a Google review describing my experience. Shortly afterward, Melinda Keller personally called me and asked me to return to the office. During my second visit, much of our conversation centered on my review and the effect it could have on her business. She then offered several spinal decompression treatments at no charge so I could determine whether they would help. I agreed. On May 11, 2026, the assistant positioned me on the spinal decompression table and started the treatment. According to the manufacturer's safety instructions for the decompression table, patients should be provided with a handheld emergency stop button before treatment. I was not given one. I was also left alone in the treatment room -- on a machine that requires close monitoring while strapped into a high-tension mechanized machine - which, according to the manufacturer's instructions, was not consistent with the recommended safety procedures. During the treatment, the table unexpectedly began pulling and jerking one side of my body downwards with tremendous force. I do not know whether the machine malfunctioned or whether incorrect settings were used. What I do know is that I repeatedly called out "Hello!" twice because I needed help, and no one came into the room. The force was so sudden and violent that it is one of the most frightening experiences I have ever had. Eventually, the machine stopped on its own, and I remained lying there frozen in shock, watching the timer count down to zero. When the assistant returned to unstrap me, I mentioned the machine acting erratically, but she offered no explanation - not even a raised eyebrow - just an awkward silence. Afterward, because I already knew something had gone wrong and was concerned about the pain I was beginning to experience, I agreed to a cold laser treatment in the hope that it might reduce inflammation and help minimize any injury. As someone who has worked extensively with medical lasers in my own profession, that seemed like a reasonable decision at the time. Before the cold laser treatment began, the assistant immediately handed me an emergency shut-off button and instructed me to use it if the treatment became too warm. That moment has stayed with me ever since. I had just completed a treatment on a motorized decompression table while alone and without an emergency stop button, yet I was promptly given one for a laser treatment where I could have simply sat up if I became uncomfortable. Approximately a week later, I emailed Melinda Keller explaining that I continued to experience significant pain and specifically asked what machine settings had been used during my decompression treatment. Instead of answering my question, or calling me to discuss what had happened, I simply received copies of my intake paperwork and X-rays. I never received the information I requested or any meaningful follow-up regarding the incident or my how I was feeling. I am currently undergoing medical evaluation. Until that process is complete, I cannot say exactly what injuries I may have sustained. I can say that I continue to experience pain that began immediately after this treatment. Pain that I didn't have before the treatment experience. This review reflects only my personal experience. Based on what happened to me, I cannot recommend Brooklyn Spine Center.
