Had a washer disaster that brought us here for a replacement unit. Our existing washer, self destructed and there was water leaking all over the place. Their service technician, Jay, was fast, friendly and helped us make a great decision on a new washer instead of repairing the existing 10 year old machine. The staff at Hamai were super helpful and fast. We got a replacement machine and arranged for delivery and installation. All told it took about 15 minutes "in and out" and they worked with us on the price and gave us credit for the service call on the wrecked washing machine. Highly recommend. read more

Well comes to find out Manny told us we might not need a new oven ask we have to do is reset it and see if it will work. So that's our next step. I'm so glad we went to this place. If I can give a rating lower than one 1 I would for this company. Their overall services are poorly met. They do not know how to trouble shoot problems, and when seeking for their assistance they give you the run around, almost in hopes that you'll give up and just end services with them. It almost feels like a big scam. The technicians don't have the knowledge and skills that they are expected to have, and they set follow-up appointments with you that they don't keep, having you wait on them at times end. Really disappointing service. Extended warranty service means waiting two weeks out for a technician, a joke when you're talking about household appliances that are used daily. And that's just for a diagnosis! Also dealt with extremely condescending woman who tried to lecture me on being available when they call or not to receive their service. Another joke considering a representative will answer their own phone lines, maybe one out of ten times. AND, like most businesses around here expect you to be available to them the moment they call but can not give you a clear ETA. Shopping for appliances on Maui is difficult to say the least, and despite our efforts to support local shops, I will no longer support this car-dealership-vibe operation. Update on my previous reviews which covers the install of 2 dishwashers purchased from Hamai. Here it is in a nutshell then the longer version. Easy to purchase and pay (4*) No communication for weeks even though product on island and ready (1*) Install eventually...in their own time....which is done well (3*) My previous reviews detail my frustration with trying to get Hamai to return my calls or texts regarding install. After 3 long weeks waiting for someone, anyone to communicate with me I eventually got a call from Rocky that the install would be going ahead. Finally! Rocky and his son Chase turned up on time, and installed both dishwashers and hauled away the old ones. One dishwasher was straightforward to install, but the second was an absolute pain. At one point I thought Rocky was going to give up and refuse to install, but he kept going and finished the tricky job which included removing screw heads from inside the cabinetry once he had waltzed and squeezed the old dishwasher out so he could get the new one in. Chase set both dishwashers off to check for leaks once they were plumbed in and I double checked further by putting kitchen towel under the piping for the next week to make sure they weren't leaking. So far so good. If anything happens in the next few months I will update. I've noticed quite a few of the previous reviews involve a lack of customer service further down the line. Would I use Hamai again. No. I have bought 8 appliances through Lowes over the past few years (I am a property manager and also upgraded my kitchen) and have experienced better customer service and communication so I will continue using Lowes, especially as I get a 5% deduction using my Lowes card. The tip is to get the email address of the appliance specialist you deal with for communicating. read more

Summary: new fridge stopped working after 2 months, been waiting with no fridge for 19 days after they said it would be 7-10 days. They haven't called once (I had to call them to follow up and they said just keep waiting). I emailed their service email address twice, no reply at all on those. Two years ago we bought a refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, dishwasher and King sized mattress from Hamai Appliance. The refrigerator door hinge failed after a year (even though it had little use during Covid, when our condo owners could not come to Maui). The compressor failed yesterday. Hamai told us that we had to order a whole new door (it was one month after the one year warranty had expired). They could not replace the hinge. They told us the compressor was under warranty but that was only for the part. The minimum labor charge was $1000 to replace it. We said we would buy a new refrigerator from them but they would not even give us any consideration or discount even after all the business we sent their way. PS - One of our Condo owners sits on the Board of Directors of a condominium complex near Wailea and has sent many owners to Hamai for their appliance needs. And he is the one that convinced us to go to Hamai for appliances. He now regrets that recommendation and has stated he will not be going to them for HIS future purchases. You cannot treat customers that way and expect to stay in business. read more

Their service on appliances is unbeatable, and they have excellent customer support for their appliances, at least in my experience with Hamai. The sales side is trickier They say they don't carry manufacturers like LG because no one on the island services them, and if you do find someone to repair them, the parts are generally unavailable on the island This is interesting since LG is branded as the best refrigerator in the market There are LG service people on the island They may not be as excellent in their service calls as Hamai, but they are friendly and informative about their service calls and parts We won't know what the truth is until service is needed. I am willing to take a chance. Hamai's "contractor pricing" for a product was quoted almost 50% more than Lowe's or Kitchenaid website. More importantly, Hamai gave me their "contractor price" which is $100 more than the retail price listed on Lowe's website. The salesperson at Hamai said, "The product is so new, it won't be available for months," which I interpreted to mean if you don't order now, it won't be available when you need it. This sales tactic is frequently used and very effective Last year, the same salesperson said almost the same about other Kitchenaid products not being available later, effectively psyching meout to purchase. And yes we bought the two appliances from Hamai. I have to say within 60 days I had issues with the product and Hamai quickly fixed the problem. This time, we went to Lowe's, and the product is set for delivery next month at 48.5% less than Hamai's. The question for consumers, do you want Hamai's excellent customer service for almost 50% more than Lowe's and more than retail at "contractor pricing." Do your homework and look at your budget. read more

Appliance arrived defective. Would not turn on after the install. They made attempts to send a technician to fix it but they did not want to replace the item. We were without a dryer for almost two weeks and told two different technicians would have to deem it was not working right for them to replace the item per the manufacturer's warranty. During this time there was a lack of care from the salesperson who was sarcastic about the situation. No true care or customer service at all. Someone who we would never go back to as well as recommend others not to. Lack of response from the services department as well. Made multiple calls to get a response or to schedule. What has happened to "if an item is defective it can be exchanged replaced or returned?" Isn't that what most businesses/retail stores agree to? An agreement is made at the time of the transaction. I pay for a product I am satisfied with. If I am not satisfied then I should be able to request for a refund or replacement. This item was installed without being able to power on even after a technician looked at it. That is a defective item. We didn't even run it once before it didn't work. That should mean it shouldn't be sold to anyone and returned to the manufacturer. Second technician came and got it to work but it only lasted for a short time. Fast forward to less than 6 months later it's back to its original problem and at this time we do not know if this will be a recurring issue. It's very frustrating to be stuck with a product the company does not want to replace. We will never go back to Hamai Appliance again. Friendly during the sales transaction and you would think you would receive even better care when you really need it but unfortunately that's not the case. We like to support local companies but with Hamai and their type of service and unknown policies and requirements we will go to their competition instead and refer others to do the same. If I could give 0 stars even a negative star I would. I had better experiences and care from Sears than Hamai. read more

My husband and I love to support local businesses. Hamai appliance has many items in stock, which is a rarity on Maui. If you shop at a big box store you might have to wait 12 weeks for an appliance. What an amazing experience. When we walked into the showroom we were immediately shocked by the wonderful inventory and quick acknowledgment of our presence. We came out to our condo for the first time and immediately noticed that the door handle of our refrigerator was broken off. The refrigerator was white, in a beautiful, brand new, kitchen. On top of that, it didn't seem to be all that cold in the fridge or freezer. I decided to go ahead and upgrade the refrigerator and head into Kahului to get it done. I went directly to Home Depot, hoping to get some great pricing. The gentleman laughed when I told him I needed one ASAP. He told me that they were most likely 2-8 weeks out on everything. I drove over to Hamai Appliance after reading the glowing positive reviews. Manny helped me when I arrived. We went over my options based on the size of the available slot for the refrigerator. It basically came down to two models: A slate GE fridge or a stainless Whirlpool (I think). I wanted stainless to match the other appliances, but I prefer GE products. On top of that, Manny told me that the GE refrigerator was an Energy Star appliance which would help save a lot of money on electricity (our bills are $300 per month!) and I would be eligible for a $250 rebate. Sold! Manny looked up their delivery schedule and told me the bad news about deliveries being a week out. I decided to put the fridge in the back of my rental Caravan and do it myself. The warehouse delivery guy put my fridge on the forklift and drove it out to the van. He helped me get it into the back of the van and I was off and running! Manny set up the return of my old fridge (to dispose of it and qualify me for the rebate). Manny couldn't have been any nicer nor more knowledgeable about what I needed and everything that was going on. I can't say enough good things about my whole experience. Wanted to buy a trash compactor. Initial response from the salespeople was mostly indifference. Finally one took our order. We waited several months with no one contacting us about delivery. We called. Young lady said it had been in quite a while. I asked for our sales rep. He was busy but she would have him call us back. He didn't. We called again and was transferred to someone who handles delivery. He needed to check scheduling. Two days later he called back and set things up. Hamai's had the worst customer service imaginable after I had been a customer and bought ALL my appliances from them since 1998. Will never shop at Hamai's again. Lowe's sales people were helpful, courteous and nice, unlike the rude and impersonal service I got from the young manager at Hamai Appliance. When I shopped at Hamai's before, the older manager was super nice. Recently purchased a washer/dryer unit from Hamai after visiting local box stores and finding a lack of service. I paid a little more for the unit there, but they knew their stuff and were able to deliver it in a reasonable amount of time, so it was worth it to get the help I needed. The staff was all very friendly, including the delivery and install personnel. Delivery guys were very careful bringing in new, and removing old unit. There was a minor issue after install, and they came back and fixed it in less than 24 hours of being advised of the problem. And still with a a friendly, helpful attitude. I highly recommend them if you want expertise and good service! read more

I needed a gas dryer and a electric washer.They were deliverd to my home in three days.The delivery guys were polite,put in new ones and took old ones away.Rocky came that same day and hooked up gas dryer.There is no where on Maui you can get this kind of service. I was sold a lemon. My large-capacity washing machine has never been able to wash large loads. In order to work around the defect, I wash multiple tiny loads so that the drum will spin. I've contacted the manufacturer within the warranty period, satisfied their requirement of having four service calls made, and requested a store credit for a replacement through Hamai Appliance. Their own technician even declared my washer a lemon and recommended replacing it. It's been a long 1.5 years since this saga started. I can no longer remember how many phone calls and text messages I've made and sent to Hamai. I've even ordered a replacement washer. To date, there is no update or projected delivery and installation date in sight. They never call me unless I initiate. The last I heard from them was that my warranty has expired (purely because they failed to process my claim in time)! I wonder if I ever get a replacement. Next step? BBB, I guess... read more

After some searching and plenty of phone calls, the only appliance store on the island with a fridge that would fit perfectly for us was found at Hamai. I called them on a Thursday and the refrigerator was delivered with ease the following Monday. If I ever have another appliance need while on Maui, I'll definitely call these guys! read more

We recently bought a refrigerator from Hamai Appliance. When it arrived, it wouldn't go onto our space. The delivery people jimmied it into place but then the doors were unaligned by about 1inch. We measured the space which should have been large enough to fit the refrigerator if the refrigerator hadn't been out of alignment to begin with. We made sure our cabinets were square, which they were. Hamai decided it wasn't worth having our business and refunded our money. They didn't want to try to make it right and bring us a different refrigerator. According to them, there was nothing wrong with the refrigerator- it was our problem. Two days later we had a refrigerator delivered from another company, which was the exact same size as the first one. It fit into our spot perfectly and the doors were properly aligned. We had a MUCH better experience shopping at Sears than at Hamai Appliance. read more

I needed a washing machine and did my research with Consumer Reports. Then I called both Hamai and the big box for what they had in the category I wanted. This morning I went to Hamai first. I checked out the product and realized it would be so much easier to purchase from them. Their price was competitive. Then I asked about purchasing an extended warranty. I was told it was included in the price. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes . It's Saturday Morning. The washer will be delivered Monday between 9 and noon. I already know that Hamai has a stellar repair team from a previous purchase there. So glad I went to Hamai first. Feeling Grateful. read more

This place has very poor customer service. They made my mom carry a TV without even offering to get a cart or acknowledge to help her carry it. A few days after my mom turned it in they called telling her to pick it up. As she went to go to pick it up a few days after they called, Comes to find out the TV wasn't even fixed and she over heard one of the guys saying there is refurbished parts to fix it when they told her it will be brand new parts. This may be a family business but the owner needs to either train his employees better or get better employees. I would not recommend anyone going here to get there TV fixed. Better off buy a new TV instead of dealing with them. They deserve 0 stars. read more

We purchased a dishwasher here after having trouble with one from a big box store. Unfortunately the dishwasher broke down within the first three months, Hamai came right away to repair it before renters came in. Unfortunately the dishwasher quit completely a year later and with our extended warranty, Hamai Appliance replaced it and sent us a thank you note for working with them on this. We dealt with the store manager who kept in touch both by phone and email. We will go back to this local store next time we need an appliance. read more

These folks are really helpful and a classy bunch of folks. They've been around forever and put a lot of effort into customer service. I guess they've figured out that most families will keep coming back every few years when an appliance breaks. We got a fridge from them which they delivered on time.
