If you're looking for a home-cooked Hawaiian meal, look no further than Hamakua Living! It doesn't look like much from the outside but as you eat (there are 2 tables outside) you will see so many locals stop by to get their lunch to-go They have $5 bowls and $12 plates! ---shoyu chicken bowl: we got this first and it just hit the spot so we ordered more ---kalua pork bowl: also juicy and flavorful so we decided we had to try their lau lau since there was only 1 left! ---lau lau plate: pork steamed in taro leaves with rice and corn, we enjoyed the lau lau too! Love the food. Very much a small, community business. You can feel the love in the food! Meat is always super tender and they always mix up their sides. I'm more of a red meat person but more often than not, the shoyu chicken plate steals the show for me! read more

We stopped here to pick up plate lunches on the way to Waipio Valley Overlook and all the food was delicious and the prices great. It's takeout only, you order from the available meals that day and have it in no time. We had the Shoyu Chicken, BBQ Rib Tips, and Pork & Bean Chili. They also had Pastele which sounded great though we didn't try it. Very under the radar local place and a good one to support. read more

Hamakua Living is our small business serving our community we were raised in, Honoka'a. With our vast cultural backgrounds & family recipes we have created a twist on traditional dishes we proudly serve. From Shoyu chicken, Roast Pork, Kalua (smoked traditional shredded pork) or Laulau (pork with luau leaves, wrapped in ti-leaf & steamed for over 8 hours) it will be comfort food to a new level we hope you will enjoy.. We try to keep the prices affordable with canned soft drinks, juice & water $1 homemade guri guri (creamy ice cake like Aunty Debbie used to make) Braddah Pops from Keaau side homemade pastele, smoked pork or portuguese sausage old school "mac salad" as a side

Established in 2010.

I was born and raised in Honokaa on the Hamakua Coast. Being able to come back to my home in 2010 and OPEN this unique every changing lunch shop has been a dream come true. I hope to provide the community “home cooked” multi nationality dishes with the Best prices ! I love this place and look forward to seeing everyone enjoying my food. Mahalo

Since being asked to have my Drivers License scanned to verify my age as they say, (I am over 40 years old), I have received Hundreds of Spam emails, advertisements, and other unsolicited responses. I would suggest if you can avoid this place to do so. I personally will not support a business that tries to retaliate against customers that have supported the business for 20+ years, only to see a corporate company take over, and treat customers like the trash! He walked us through the seed germination process, the growing process, the fermentation process and everything before, in between and after that.. from seed all the way to chocolate bar. This tour is meant to expand your knowledge and change your perspective on how you think about, taste, and experience chocolate. At the end of the farm tour, you drive down to the gift shop (about a 3 min drive from the farm) to make any potential purchases as well as taste even more chocolate! What an amazing and unique experience in Honaka'a and 100% recommend adding this tour to your Big Island itinerary. P.S. my favorite chocolate bar is the barrel aged bourbon bar!!
