Let me start off by saying the vets are very caring toward the animals. Do I think they try to nickel and dime you the past few months, yes. I believe, upon doing my online research, they were sold by the wine group. Most likely to some corporate big wig who doesn't care about anything but money. Vet tech fees of 23 to give your animal a monthly shot. Nails trimmed same. I leave paying 50 for nail trim bc they're now charging a vet fee. Most the front desk except for Cory (who is wonderful) need attitude adjustments. Cory goes above and beyond. Sometimes explains things better than the techs and vets. Unfortunately, I am unhappy and will be moving to another vet who is not corporate owned and cates about our animals. read more

I am so sorry i brought my pets here and have tremendous regret that i kept bringing them here for as long as i did. I was so upset I had to get over my anger before i could post all that happened. Bottom line: while it's easy to get a last minute appointment, this vet practices BAD MEDICINE and showed incompetence treating BOTH my cat and dog. To top it off, RUDE STAFF that hangs up on you when they have made a mistake. First, during a tooth extraction, my cat stopped breathing and almost died. Thankfully, they were able to revive her, but i've since taken her to a dental specialist/surgeon (as well as a new vet) who reviewed the doctor's notes and felt that they had a mistake in administering the anesthesia that caused her to stop breathing. But of course, they told me this happens alot and it wasn't their fault. At the time, i gave them the benefit of the doubt. Following the procedure, she had another gum infection, which, instead of referring her to another doctor, perhaps someone more capable of performing the care my cat needed, decided to just prescribe antibiotics, which only temporarily solved her infection problem and led to my cat being in pain for almost a year. During the Pandemic when doctors weren't allowing owners in the office with their pets, we brought our brand new puppy for routine vaccines. It turns out, our puppy was quite scared and they were unable to give one of the vaccines needed. I was told at the time the dog was "Scared and poorly socialized, like a home school kid" and i needed to work on that. I was not told the needed vaccine was not given and also not told that my dog tried to bite the technician and beware was written in the file. This was more serious than i knew and would cause problems down the line, however i did not know since i was so poorly informed of what had happened in the appointment. I only found out about the vaccine after the dog training class informed me it was missing and i would not be able to join until it was given. I called the receptionist and asked for an appointment asap. But I was angry that this was not communicated to me and felt that they had even read the file to know which vaccine was needed, something that i would rely on them to let me know. The reception was quite rude and hung up on me!!! Finally, someone more reasonable, polite and apologetic called me back and gave me an appointment asap. i reluctantly went back. I knew i needed to change vets at that point, what with the rude treatment by the receptionist and suspected negligence, but i brought my cat in one last time for a nail trim. Guess what, I was overcharged and they tacked on some new administrative fee (no joke!) That was the last straw. In summary, i am lucky they didn't kill my cat, was mistreated by a horribly rude receptionist that hung up on me when they obviously don't read files to see what's needed, and they gave my puppy PTSD from being forcibly examined. I really wish i had trusted my instincts about the care my pets were being given. I now have a kind, loving doctor, who practices cooperative care and does not mistreat animals. She actually knows my pets and what's going on with them. OWNERS BEWARE: BAD MEDICINE!!! OVER CHARGING CROOKS!!! INCOMPETENCE!!! read more

If I could put zero stars, I would have. We have been bringing my dog for almost 3 years to Hamburg Veterinary Clinic. The evening of December 19th, my dog started acting strange. It seemed that he was in a lot of pain, every time he tried to move a certain way he would whimper. I had no clue what could have happened. He is always with us. As the night went on my dog started to go under distress. We took him to Newton Animal Hospital, OMG....what a mistake that was. They saw what my dog was going through and did absolutely nothing. After leaving us for 2 hours, with no treatment, we left. I figured Hamburg Veterinary Clinic will be open in a few hours and thought they can help my little guy feel better. It was a very long night trying to make my fur baby feel as comfortable as possible. 8:01am, my mother called the office to let them know what was going with our dog. I over hear the desperation from mother explaining the situation and the urgency of the matter. I also hear her telling them the bad experience we had at Newton animal hospital..... To make a long story short, they told my mother the earliest we can see him is the following morning..... WHAT!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! A patient of yours for over 3 years and you say that. Then told my mother to take him back to the hospital, after clearly telling this women that we felt more comfortable to go the clinic instead. After my mother hung up the phone with them, I called them back to make sure what they did was "INHUMANE" "UNEXCEPTABLE". They knew what was going on and dismissed it. They would rather take wellness appointment over an emergency!!!! I am disgusted by this clinic. DISGUSTED !!!! I will make sure none of my fur friends/family will ever step foot in their office!!! We decided to take our fur baby back to our original vet in Bergan County. After not going to her for over 3 years, She heard our desperation and made room for us. That is what the love of animals is about!!!!! read more

On May 15th, my 3 month old bambino sphynx wasn't acting normal at all. She wasn't eating and I could tell she had a fever and she had a small rash on her neck and back. I had just moved to Hamburg this past January, and my regular vet was all the way in Ridgewood New Jersey. I Immediately started calling vets in the area. I called one other vet that was closer to my new home, before I called Hamburg veterinary clinic. I explained my symptoms to the first vet that I called and they told me that they were booked!!! If anyone knows anything about kittens they should know that kittens can fade fast! When I called Hamburg veterinary clinic which happened to be the second closest to my home, the only reason why they were second on my list to call, the woman on the phone was very patient with me....asked me about all the symptoms of my kitten, she then nicely said "we are very busy today, let me see what I can do, I'm going to put you on hold" A glimmer of hope for me! She quickly got back on the phone and told me to bring my kitten right away to the office! It is such a good thing they took my baby kitten! I don't know what would happen if they didn't! She had a fever of 105° and When they took blood they could tell something was off with her levels. They told me they were not a 24 hour hospital but that they would keep her overnight and have someone check on her all the time, because she needed to continue to get fluids via intervenous due to her fever being so high! The following day the doctor called me first thing in the morning to let me know her fever had broke and that I could come get her at noon, after they monitored her For a few hours! I am so grateful to the Doctors and the staff here! They saved my kittens life! They are now going to be my new Veterinarian! I am so happy I found them! I also was expecting a huge bill since it was an emergency overnight stay and I have to say that their charges for my kittens care, treatment and overnight stay Were extremely reasonable and fair! I can't thank you guys enough and I will be recommending you to everyone I know!!! She makes herself 100% available to you when you are faced with a tough decision or just have questions about your pet. She cared for my cat from about 13 years of age until his passing at 18.5 years old. She knew everything about him and remembered for each visit. I truly cannot emphasize how amazing she is. She gives you all the options she can possibly offer and helps you weigh them. She is also my vet for my other cat and my brother and parents' dogs. I trust her completely with our animals. I did not have a good experience here. I found that the vets were so focused on getting the pets in and out that they did not take the time to understand the situation. As a result, I found that they threw medications at us which complicated our pet's problem. Overall a terrible experience. I'd note one exception - Dr. Jackie was actually quite focused and attentive. On an unrelated issue, on many occasions it took a really, really long time to get through on the phone. read more

Despite every effort to be polite, and understanding that COVID-19 has placed stresses on everyone, I feel obligated after many negative interactions to report this veterinary clinic/hospital for the rudeness of its staff and vet techs in dealing with clients. This appears to be a mindset that runs through the organization and is either promulgated or tolerated by the clinic's owner veterinarian Dr. Scott Martens - the inverted idea being that they are doing you a favor rather than respecting customers and clients as their reason for being. Example: vet techs returning pets to owners waiting in cars, who get angry when they can't explain what transpired in an office visit, in situations where clients are unable to speak directly with the caregivers OR receptionists and schedulers who complain about the time required on the phone scheduling a complicated visit for multiple pets (their source of income!) - as if the client is wasting their time. Additionally, the clinic upcharges every encounter with arbitrary rules that are non-standard, including examination fees for rabies injections, even when the pet has been seen for a surgical procedure within a year - claiming that exam doesn't count! It was a completely different environment before its wonderful former owner Dr. Tim Bingaman sold the business. Now it is a mean-spirited cash cow! I strongly recommend you take your canine/feline pets elsewhere. read more

I have unfortunately too much experience with vets, having had animals who suffered from several major illnesses, one of which was cancer, which necessitated a whole team of doctors including a nutritionist, oncologist, emergency specialist, a general vet, and a long-distance vet who is a holistic vet but is too far away for an every day vet in normal circumstances. Through these experiences I have had to learn a lot and gotten a large sampling of the good and bad of it in the veterinary profession. As horrible as it is, there are vets and techs who should not be practicing in this field, either they are unskilled, lack compassion, don't believe in the importance of input from a pet owner as a diagnostic tool, or other bad things. For my current furrbabies, I wanted to find a vet that I felt comfortable could handle most things that would come to pass in their lifetime. I still have a nutritionist, and for special cases I will still get a 2nd opinion from our long-distance holistic vet. But for our 'family doctor' I'm very, very happy with Hamburg Veterinary Clinic. Good things about Hamburg Veterinary: -Everyone there I've met has been compassionate and loving with my animals, I feel that they genuinely care about what they do. I feel welcome there, and I feel like they really, really care about my animals. -Everyone has been very accommodating to me and given me any records or information I've needed any time I've asked -They have a nice, clean facility, they have good hours, and they are very helpful in allowing animals to be dropped off early or picked up late when they need to do an outpatient procedure -Their prices are very fair -I worked mostly with Dr, Martens, and I found him to be extremely thorough, which I greatly appreciated. He took the time to have long conversations with me during the diagnostic phase of treating my animal recently for an ailment which spanned about a month, and I felt he considered my input, answered questions thoroughly, and really made sure we did all the appropriate tests to get a valid diagnosis. I like him very much! - One of the best parts about this vet is that I was not dismissed or condescended to any time I was there. Given my experience, sometimes I ask for a little extra bloodwork, or ask some difficult questions. For example we were doing a blood panel and I requested 'the works' where they do a full comprehensive panel instead of just the basics. No big deal right? The only additional cost is out of my pocket, it's no extra work for them, and it's no extra strain on the animal, so for a vet to have an issue with that would be silly. (Hamburg was happy to do it for me by the way but in the past I had another vet get all righteous on me for requesting it). Like many pet owners, my animals are like my children, I'd give my own organs to them if they needed them, and I will do anything to make sure they get the best care. I am polite and respectful of anyone in the Veterinary field unless they are terrible people, yet some doctors still receive me with a high and mighty attitude that I am a mindless peon and I should shut my mouth and not 'think'. I have had doctors in the past get attitudes over a simple request like that, like just because I don't have letters after my name, I'm not qualified to have an opinion or care about my pets. In anycase, everyone at Hamburg was more than happy to talk with me in depth, consider all things I said, and treat me with respect and kindness. I appreciate and respect that. Doctors who aren't afraid of intelligent discourse with a patient or pet-parent are the real deal, they are the kind of doctors that you know will go the extra mile behind closed doors to save your animal, and they are the kinds of doctors that are always learning, and truly interested in the welfare of animals above and beyond everything else. From my experience so far, this is the kind of doctor at Hamburg Vet!!! :-) - I really like how they stock natural bug repellent products in their small for-sale display case as well as chemical ones. It's an acknowledgement that not all pet owners believe in dousing their animals in chemicals unnecessarily. In fact, when I brought one of my furballs in for a better tick control solution, they took the time to talk with me about advances in the field, what they offered, and helped me find a good solution that was safe for my whole household. The only 'cons' I have found is that none of the doctors there practice holistic medicine as well (I believe in a balanced approach), and also that they do not have in-house equipment for blood/urine/etc testing, so results are received the next day (still pretty quick for most normal cases) (EDIT: my mistake, I found out they do!), and of course that they aren't open 24/7 in case of an emergency. Dr Scott Martens is a straight shooter, the office has always taken care of my dogs in a timely manner for appointments, and the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. This morning I called Hamburg Veterinary Clinic at 8:00 when they opened. I was given an appointment promptly at 9:15. I walked in and having never been there prior filled out the paperwork. Super efficient office. Saw the doctor(Scott Martens) and his assistant(Sage) promptly after completing paperwork. He diagnosed my dog quickly and efficiently. He said I am not going to run all kind of expensive test because he is a healthy young dog and simply has a bout of tracheitis. He gave me some antibiotics and cough suppressant as needed and said he should be fine in a couple days. If not get him back in here. Super efficient. Super professional and super clean facility. Entire staff interaction was great. I would HIGHLY recommend this vets office. Nothing but praise. I would HIGHLY recommend staying far away from Newton Veterinary Hospital. It is a cluster F like I've never seen. Bigger is NOT better. read more
