The smash burger is seasoned perfectly, and has that great crispy edge, and is deliciously juicy. Each bite is just perfect. All of the layers of flavor meld together in perfect harmony with one another. You need the fries. Their duck fat fries should be a food group. They are scrumptious! It's that perfect fry. They are light, and did I mention scrumptious?!? You get that crunch when you bite into one with that light fluffy inside. As if this wasn't perfect enough, of course I had to try the shake. They offer two versions: boozy shakes for those of us that really want to adult our "happy meal" and their regular shakes. The shakes are amazing. It's everything that you want in a shake and more. Thought I would want the Hatch Chile more; my man ordered that but it was a bit much. And I got it with whatever cheese the server recommended.. there were two.. HATCH CHILE - my partner liked this one more than my burger, the lime creama (Mexcian sour cream) in his was a bit much but not in comparision to the mustard in mine - a bit to sharp for him But I probably wouldn't get my burger again even though it was good or his. I would get either their namesake smashburger or one of the tarven burgers - their black label is catching my eye. Got a non-boozy chocolate shake - it was okay, can't recommend. Would have gotten a oreo shake if oreos didn't have soy in them.. and most other shakes with things.. On a Downtown stroll I landed at Hamburguesa Bar on 2nd street off Market street. Inside felt like Deja Vu with a bar which reminded me of a time I was in Missouri around the Ozarks at bar with a similar vibe. You will hear country classics and rock and roll classics playing along a television which looks like it was in a pawn shop decades ago. The ambience was interesting along with the food. I felt excited ordering the All American tavern burger since America turns 250 years old next month. The buns were soft and the beef was juicy and it was tasty and not too cheesy like some in SF. I then crossed north of the border into Canadian cuisine territory and had the poutine. The hand cut duck fat fries were crispy and it had flavor and the cheese curds weren't too cheesy and the rest of it was all gravy. A good place to grab a North American meal. Loved this spot for so many reasons. I came here with a work crew for lunch. Heard that there were some timing issues when HB first opened, and it seems like they worked out the kinks. We found a booth big enough for our group and were approached fairly quickly after we arrived. Once we ordered, the food came out in a reasonable time. The ambiance wis fabulous. Legit diner 80 bar with midwest vibes as confirmed by an Ohio transplant in our group. Music was loud so don't expect to get any peace and quiet. And the food... so delicious. Most of our group order the $8 Hamburguesa. I was worried that 3.5 oz. smashed patty wouldn't be enough but it was the perfect amount. The crisp skirt on the patty was season well and the pickled jalapeño and queso fundido brought more depth. The buns were so soft. We all shared the duck fat fries which were addicting. Great for lunch but we all had to run off to meetings. We didn't really get to explore any libations. Love the small simple menu. El Reno Smash Burger: So it's not like those extreme smash burgers that are paper thin falling off the side of a plate. But it's definitely flat and crispy on the edges. Love the mustard-heavy approach and the really cheesy cheese. Black Label Tavern Burger: Even though I've fully embraced the smash burger trend, I think I prefer their tavern burger. It's thick and quite umami with all the mushroom and truffle. The cheese is just the right amount of fatty and gooey. Poutine: Huge portion. I shared the duck fat fries which I feel were a great sharing size, they are definitely fat fries making them more filling and were super tasty! However, you cannot add anything to the burgers, you can remove ingredients but not add - not crazy about that! They also only have mayo/chipotle mayo/ketchup. Hamburguesa Bar is a fantastic newish smash burger spot from the same team behind Pie Punks (an excellent Detroit style pie shop across the street), and it already feels like a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I stopped in right at noon and managed to snag a seat at the bar, though the place filled up pretty quickly over the course of my meal, which is always a good sign. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and I went with their recommendation for a first-timer: the Hamburguesa, their classic smash burger, paired with the poutine with duck confit added on because why not. Everything was excellent as the smash burger had that deeply crispy crust that any great one should, and the queso and chipotle mayo added a really nice creamy richness that played perfectly against the slight kick from the pickled jalapeños. The poutine was also outstanding. I have had poutine all over Canada, and found this one to be an excellent version. It starts with hand-cut duck fat fries, gets loaded up with savory cheese curds and is finally smothered in a super comforting gravy. The duck confit is definitely not necessary for it to be good, but it takes the whole thing over the top. The duck was cooked perfectly, with crispy crackly skin and moist, flavorful meat that went so well with the poutine overall. The value is also terrific. You can easily get a smash burger and fries for $16, or one of their double-patty specialty burgers for around $20, which is an absolute steal in SF given what burgers cost these days. Loved this place ! The restaurant is so cute and feels nostalgic, the music was a little loud but it didn't bother me too much. There's limited seating so make sure that you come in early to snag a table. The food was amazing. The smash burgers were delicious, our group got to taste all three and they were all great and pretty reasonably priced. But the true standout was the duck poutine with the extra duck confit. I still think about it to this day. The extra duck melted at the touch of the fork and worked perfectly with the gravy and duck fat fries. Hamburguesa Bar, the sister of Pie Punks (another great restaurant on 2nd St), serves up incredible burgers while transporting you to a midwestern dive bar. Despite arriving on a Tuesday at 5 PM, the restaurant was already packed, but we were seated fairly quickly. We split the hatch chile smash burger, black label burger, and duck fat fries. Between the hatch chile and black label, it's hard to pick a favorite. The black label burger is sumptuous and truffle-forward (but could be more so), making a food baby all but guaranteed. It did lean a tad drier, a common sin among pub-style burgers. All is made forgiven with the burger's other delicious contents. The hatch chile burger was better than the sum of its already incredible parts; the hatch chile jam lending a delicate sweetness balanced by that heat which helps to cut the otherwise decadent burger. The duck fat fries were fine. My partner asked if I could taste the duck fat to which I responded with (after a brief 30 second pause) maybe? There's perhaps a decadence that regular oil misses but any noted difference is marginal. Maybe I just lack a duck fat discerning palate. The final star goes to service and ambiance. The servers, even with the constant inundation of foot traffic, do a brilliant job, paying attention to the small details like "extra veggies on the side." The retro, grainy TV's and eclectic assortment of vintage-y paintings aligned on the walls paired with the 60's music make the experience a time capsule. A glass window being the only barrier between skyscrapers / men clad in Patagonia and a nostalgic, antiquated pub takes some getting used to though. read more

A good tip if you want to get a table quickly is to arrive at least 30 minutes before opening. I went on a Saturday and got there about 10 minutes before 5pm. There was already a line forming, but even though their hours say they open at 5pm, they didn't actually open the doors until around 5:30pm, which was a little frustrating. One thing I did appreciate is that seating is handled first come, first served and not based on group size. The service overall was friendly and attentive, though we did end up waiting about 30 minutes after ordering before our food came out. Between that wait and the fact that the restroom toilet barely flushed, those were really the only reasons this ended up being a 4-star experience instead of a 5. That said, the food was excellent. If the service timing improves, this would easily be a 5/5 spot. Poutine with Duck Confit: This was really delicious and definitely on the heavier side. It's perfect for sharing between at least two people. The duck was cooked perfectly and added a ton of flavor. I would absolutely order this again. Hatch Chile Burger: Served on a soft potato bun that can get messy pretty quickly, but the burger itself was great. A really solid smashburger that left me feeling satisfied. Black Label Burger: This ended up being my favorite of the two burgers we tried. I was surprised that it didn't automatically come with lettuce, tomato, and onion, so I asked to add them. Dare I say this might be the best burger I've had in San Francisco. I am not too big on smash burgers, but this might have changed my mind. The burger was perfectly made and so tasty. I would've liked the fries to have a bit more seasoning but the texture of them was good. The drink menu is a huge plus: full bar, milkshakes, spiked milkshakes, and $3.50 Hamms served in an ice-chilled glass -- which is honestly perfect. And the prices across the menu are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. The space has a retro Midwest vibe with great decor, lots of art, and a really warm, welcoming feel. Hamburguesa Bar is my new favorite spot! Came across this place on TikTok and had to give it a try. They serve smash burgers, tavern burgers, delicious hand cut duck fat fries, plus shakes and drinks all at an affordable price. Super warm and fun ambiance that felt like an old school diner in a movie set. Especially great because it's open until midnight and staff are very friendly. I can't wait to visit again and try more items on the menu! Would def come back! Retro, vibey spot, and tasty food -- super simple, but tasty! Good service, fun place, low lighting which we love, and good energy! Got the American burger with everything on it and extra pickles. Ended up splitting that in two, removing the meat+ cheese (for my gluten allergy partner), and making a veggie burger for me lol, and it was great! Poutine fries hit the spot! So pleasantly surprised with the food and drinks here!! Would definitely recommend if you're a fan of burgers. The hatch Chile smash burger was my favorite - I loved the cheese, patty, and buttery bun. The black label burger was also really good - lots of truffle butter which was good. The duck fat fries were also pretty good - not normally a fan of steak fries but these were pretty good. The Oreo milkshake was also very solid! The vibe was super cool. They do cook their meat more rare depending on the rarity you request which I dont mind. I loved how simple and delicious there regular burger was. Stopped by around 9PM to grab dinner. The ambiance is midwestern-y and cozy. We ordered the boozy fruity pebbles milkshake which was super delicious! We also ordered the el reno, hatch chile, and duck fat fries. Our favorite burger was the hatch chile bc of the chile jam plus the melted cheese. Duck fat fries were also delicious and crispy. Service was also great with all of the servers being very friendly and attentive. Overall had an amazing late night dinner experience here! read more
