Wayfare Tavern somehow managed to make a great thing even better with the new space. It's incredibly chic while still feeling warm and inviting, and it's just as perfect for a business lunch as it is for dinner with friends. The food continues to deliver every time. The martinis are excellent, the burger is one of the best in San Francisco, the steak tartare is always a must-order, and the popovers absolutely live up to the hype. What really made this visit stand out, though, was our server, David M. He was warm, polished, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. He anticipated what we needed without hovering and struck that perfect balance of professionalism and personality that makes you feel truly taken care of. Excellent food, a beautiful new dining room, and service that reminds you why hospitality matters. I'll absolutely be back, and hope to sit in David M.'s section again. read more

We had been to Wayfare Tavern back in 2022 and absolutely loved it, so we were really looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, our experience this time was completely different, and the overall vibe of the restaurant seems to have changed. We had a reservation for four on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, we were told we could have a table inside, but only for an hour and a half. We agreed because sitting outside along a busy street with buses, trucks, and traffic going by wasn't particularly appealing. The service was okay and our food came out fairly quickly, but throughout the meal we had the distinct feeling that they were trying to move us along. No one checked to see if I wanted another drink, and what really bothered us was that the check was brought to the table without anyone asking if we wanted dessert, coffee, or another round of drinks. We were still within the 90-minute time limit they had given us, so there was no obvious reason for the rush. I may or may not have ordered dessert, but I would have liked the opportunity to look at the dessert menu and decide. Being handed the check without even being offered dessert made us feel less like guests and more like a table they wanted to turn over as quickly as possible. What made this especially disappointing was remembering how much we enjoyed Wayfare Tavern the first time. We specifically chose to come back because of that experience, but this visit felt much more transactional and rushed. For a restaurant at this price point, I expect to be able to relax and enjoy dinner rather than feel like I'm on a countdown. Sadly, I don't think we'll be returning. read more

Such a beautiful space! Really helps make the dining experience feel special. Excellent apps and mains. Maybe best beef tartare I've ever had. Solid Caesar with real anchovies, not overdressed. Roasted prime beef and verlasso salmon were incredibly tender but what really knocked it outta the park was the seasoning and veg sides - the ponzu braised cabbage under the salmon, the hen of the woods and potato puree under the beef. Didn't get the fried chicken this time but it's incredible. Burrata whipped potatoes haricot verts, chocolate cupcake, and Madelines were solid. Assume options off the event menu are better. I do understand why people like this restaurant and why it's so popular. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and were seated outside. Honestly, maybe it was because we were seated outdoors, but the service wasn't great. It took a while just to get someone's attention so we could find our waiter. Our waiter also never introduced himself, so we didn't know who to look for, and he seemed to stay mostly inside the restaurant, which made it harder to flag him down. Luckily, once our order was taken, the food came out pretty quickly. Between my husband and me, we shared the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and burger with fries. Mac and Cheese: 3/5 I love a white cheese sauce, so I was excited to try this since the pictures made it look really good. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The noodles seemed soggy because they kept breaking apart, and there wasn't much cheese sauce. It also kind of felt like the sauce had split, where the oil separated from the cheese. I ended up adding some of the garlic pieces from the chicken for more flavor. Wouldn't get again. Fried Chicken: 4/5 This was juicy and flavorful. The dark meat pieces were my favorite. The skin was super crispy without being too thick or too thin, and overall it was seasoned really well. I understand why so many people order this dish. Now that I've tried it though, I don't know if I'd specifically order it again unless I came with a bigger party. We didn't fully finish the dish bc I felt the white meat was a little dry. Burger w/ Fries: The fries were honestly my favorite thing we ordered. Thin, crispy, and well seasoned. 5/5 would absolutely get again. I can't speak too much about the burger itself since I only had a couple bites, but it was very flavorful, hearty, and smoky. If you go, I'd recommend trying to get an inside table, maybe you'll have better luck with service. The outdoor seat cushions looked a little stained/dirty, and since it was windy outside, dirt was blowing into our cups. Just something to keep in mind. Wayfare Tavern was founded by the celebrity chef Tyler Florence, along with other famous restaurant, such as Miller & Lux, Wayfare Tavern is serving authentic American dishes inspired by San Francisco's golden age of dining. Wayfare Tavern recently moved to the current address on Pine Street near Market Street, which is a great location for lunch and dinner options for people working in FiDi and Soma areas. The marble and wooden floor, with glamorous golden wall paper and red velvet sofas and chairs, also the floor to ceiling bar area all transport customers instantly to the splendor of early 1900s. WT Espresso Martini $16 I ordered one of my favorite cocktail, the Espresso Martini. Made with Meili Vodka, and Meletti Coffee Liqueur Espresso. Pearl Coast $11 My friend got the refreshing mocktail option. The Pearl Coast is made with rice water, cinnamon, and cream of coconut. Tasted like a summer drink in Southeast Asia. Clam Chowder $16 One of our favorite dishes was the clam chowder. The clam chowder was served with clam bellies, smoked bacon-jalapeno hushpuppies, and poured with hot and creamy chowder tableside. It was great to dip the popover into it too! Chef's Selection of West Coast Oysters $56 We got a dozen of the oysters for appetizer, came with charred lemon, giardineira mignonette, and house-made hot sauce. On the side there were dashi braised cabbage, crispy garlic, and seasoned with okonomi sauce, and some sorrel. My waiter Wade was so accommodating and friendly! I got the Kale & Chicory salad and it was beyond my expectations. Who knew Kale salad could be so good! They also served a complementary popover ( like a Yorkshire pudding but better) that was delicious. I was also able to try the famous deviled eggs. I was dining alone and really appreciated that I was able to get a small order of the deviled eggs and a half salad. I had driven by many times and always thought the place looked like a fun spot to dine, especially on the sidewalk as I like sitting outside and watching people go by. Service was great, waiter friendly , made sure everything was up to par, especially when one of our cocktail glass had a big chip/crack and should not have been served to guests. Seating was cramped as they sat our party of 5 next to 2 tables of 2 (split for more seating) but left little room to get into the benched seating so tables would get bumped. We always like to try seafood towers if they have one and this was good, everything fresh (wished the butter for lobster came warm, but the sauces were on point). I didn't take pics of everyone else's meals, but my bone-in pork chop was dry, the most delicious parts were the sides with it (braised greens and mustard potato salad). The bavette steak frites needed some salt despite the truffle seasoning. Coming in for a special event, my favorite bites were the passed appetizers, which included burrata and fig jam tarts, tuna tartare, and steak crostini. For appetizers, the Roasted Button Mushroom Soup was a dark, clear broth poured over chopped vegetables; the Tavern Caesar was a classic salad of chopped romaine with anchovies, Parmesan, and croutons, all tossed in a creamy Caesar dressing; and on the side came an airy baked popover with salted butter. For our main dish, we had a duet of Branzino, a crispy skin-on fillet topped with a fennel gremolata and lemon agrumato (olive oil), and Wagyu Bavette Steak, cooked to a juicy medium rare and served over roasted hen of the woods mushrooms and potato puree. The sides included grilled asparagus and burrata whipped potatoes. Everything we had was simple but tasty and executed nicely. It was a weekday night, we sat at the bar, it wasn't too busy, and we ordered A LOT of food but it felt like they were still rushing us to leave towards the end. Would've been five stars if we didn't feel that pressured to leave! The beef carpaccio with homemade chips was sooo good. The chips were the perfect vessel, super light and crispy! I definitely preferred the steak frites over the CA fried chicken, the steak was cooked perfectly and the fries were thin and crispy. Just popped in for a quick drinky drink, but had a great time during my short visit here. Walked in around 7:30, and this place was rockin! So many folks were in here and the bar was nearly full. I ended up getting a seat at the side bar facing the street. Not ideal, but sometimes beggars can't be choosers. Was greeted by the super nice waiter and ordered a Barbary Coast. I'm going to stop here to talk about how nice everyone in here was. From the hostess to the waitstaff. Everyone her was so friendly and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I'm obsessed with great customer service, so I always notice when establishments go above and beyond. Ok Back to the Barbary Coast! It was splendid. Gin based and lemony. Ultra refreshing and best of all, served in a pretty glass. I loved it! By the time I was almost finished with my drink, a fresh popover arrived on my plate with some butter. A dozen oysters showed up and we brought it up to our server who profusely apologized and said it was his "bad" and he would cover it but for us to enjoy the dozen. Friday happy hour with friends is always a great way to start a weekend. We shared the Petaluma Farm deviled eggs, shoestring fries, whipped feta with blistered sun tomatoes, and a side of string beans. The deviled eggs were definitely the standout, and I can see why they're so popular. The fries were crispy and addicting, and the whipped feta with the sweet tomatoes was a nice combination. I ordered the mojito, and my friend had the dirty martini (sorry, we almost finished it before I remembered to take a picture ). My mojito was refreshing, but a little light for my taste. The food was just okay, and unfortunately I wouldn't return. I ordered the clam chowder and was disappointed by how little clam was actually in it--there were only a few small pieces throughout the soup. The black cod was also extremely salty, to the point that it overpowered the dish. On the positive side, our waiter was very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. What really frustrated me was the way our leftovers were handled. When we asked for our food to be packed to go, we intentionally combined everything we wanted to keep onto one plate. I don't understand why anyone would discard food without asking first, especially when it was clearly on the plate we wanted boxed. There was a reason we combined everything onto one plate, and a simple question could have avoided the confusion. I am also just review our bill and the menu price for the clam chowder was $17 and they charged us $21 for it..DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL! Our four person dining group had reservations a week in advance at 7:30 on a Saturday. We arrived early and were still offered an outdoor table to avoid a long wait. We chose indoors but were told we only had an 1 1/2 hour time limit to dine. Who does this? We had the oysters, salmon, fish and chips and salad. along with mashed potatoes. The food was incredible. We ordered wine and cocktails as well. However, we were not offered a dessert menu and our waiter did not return until it was time to pay. We left feeling unwelcome and neglected. Ubered to Wayfare Tavern the night of the power outage and I was sure nerve wracked when I got there. Perfect timing for a martini and they do make a good one. They turned people away without reservations do be sure to make one. We got settled at a nice little table. Complimentary popovers arrived snd were warm and yummy. I was in the mood for a burger and they delivered. Very tasty and the roll wasn't soggy. Those skinny fries are just my type and they were great. My husband liked his salmon. We tried the donuts for dessert and they were really good. I would have enjoyed more choices on the dessert menu but we were happy enough with the donuts. The waiter was attentive and friendly. We had reservations on a Thursday evening and were seated in the back room which is a different vibe from the front of the restaurant and the bar/kitchen area. We felt almost forgotten at the beginning. We had ordered a bottle of wine and it was taken away and not placed at the table of table side and the first 2 times we had to waive down a waiter to refill us. We did enjoy their house made mint lemonade. After we got through appetizers, the service was better than at the beginning. We started with the complementary popover bread which was fluffy and delicious. We ordered the deviled eggs and clam chowder and both were rich in flavor so we had a strong start. For the main entrees we did the $199.00 44oz bone-in ribeye dish that was cooked and seasoned to perfection, but it wasn't hot. I felt like it had been sitting for a long time before it got to us just warm. We went with the burrata whipped potatoes and the crispy Brussels sprouts as the sides. The burrata whipped potatoes were the best. Rich and whipped, but they were also cold upon arrival at our table. The Brussels sprouts weren't as crispy as promoted, but had very good seasoning. We also got the Verlasso Salmon and the maple citrus glaze on the salmon paired well with the root vegetable purée. Probably the best dish of the night. For dessert we got the Pumpkin Roll and Apple Tarte Tatin. Both solid choices. The pumpkin roll came with a warm bourbon maple syrup that elevated the sponge cake. The apple dessert came with cheddar cheese gelato, which we thought was interesting, but it tied it together nicely with the sweetness of the apples. We had used "coat check" and we were leaving and we gave them our ticket we were told to go find our coats in a pile of coats on top of a podium. read more

Very busy on a Monday night, clearly a popular spot for after work meals and business dinners. Everything was stellar but the fresh popovers and fried chicken were the stars of the show. Fried chicken was almost a half chicken per serving, perfectly seasoned and fried. So good. A lovely gentleman named Ethan came by halfway through dinner and fixed one set of the heat lamps which made things much more comfortable. Returned to Wayfare Tavern to find a packed house at 7pm on a Friday. The host saw that I had accepted an outdoor reservation... as that was the only available option when booking. But she found us an indoor table all the same. Hospitality win! For our dinner, we enjoyed two excellent cocktails along with a delectable fresh crab appetizer and 6 perfect oysters. Popovers, as per usual. We then shared the grilled black cod on romesco sauce and the haricots verts (a modern twist on a green bean casserole). Both were nice. Then house-made gelato for dessert. I've been a fan of Wayfare Tavern for years, and the new location somehow manages to raise the bar even higher. The service is consistently excellent, and the warm popovers are still the thing that pulls you in from the start. The rest of the menu is executed with the kind of precision that keeps you coming back. The burger remains one of the best in town, and I appreciate that they stay proudly normcore in all the right ways. Add Tyler Florence's influence throughout the menu and you end up with a spot that always delivers. My only small quibble is the same one I had with the previous location. Was grateful to get a reservation on Valentines Day! My niece called them and they were able to seat a group of us (7) within an hour. Excellent service, and the food was great. Some highlights - the popovers of course, the clam chowder, and my fried chicken was very good. The ambience was both romantic but capable of seating multiple people. Enjoy! read more

A great spot for a nice team lunch. Our party trickled in, and the staff were accommodating. The popovers were warm and a nice start to the dining experience. The apps of beef tartare and deviled eggs were excellent - very flavorful. Our party tried several different dishes: - Fried chicken was a hit - not too greasy and well seasoned - Burgers were well liked - The salmon was tender and well cooked - The chicken on the salad was unfortunately dry - Mashed potatoes were stunning - creamy, almost too greasy, but in a good way - Squash was just okay, a bit greasy and not well-seasoned Overall, a nice environment with delicious food. read more

I've come to Wayfare twice for restaurant week. The space is beautiful and I always appreciate the deal for people who may not otherwise be able to afford a nicer place like this. The popover roll is delicious, fluffy, and warm. I am a huge fan of their salad. The butter lettuce is crisp and fresh, and the dressing is creamy, bright, and herb forward. The citrus adds to the brightness and a little bit of sweetness, I'm not a big salad person but I could eat this every day. The chicken is fried nicely, crispy but juicy. I enjoyed the lemon on the side and the extra salt and spices on the side to sprinkle on top. I am not a fan of raised donuts, but Wayfare's donut is one of the best donuts of my life. It's always hot, fluffy, and light and comes with a bright berry sauce to cut through the sweetness of the donut. read more

Wish they had more vegetarian options - they can make a couple of things vegetarian, but that's never as good as actually having real vegetarian options. Got the baked brie - solid.
