I have driven by this place so many times and have never gone in until today! The history dates back to 1883 which is a cool slice of history!! Although I live in the South Bay I'm up in the city for a few days for a work conference. The hotel I'm staying at which is rock throwing distance from here has a limited menu so I thought I'd finally check this place out. I went in during happy hour, which is 3-5 Monday-Friday and I believe all day on Saturday (but not 100% sure) I was quickly greeted by the bartender, who was GREAT! Shannon was knowledgeable and had great recommendations as well as being very on top of things. I ended up ordering the Warm Olives w/ Rosemary & Garlic as a little bite. (Which i will note, there is no lady-like way to eat a non-pitted olive) there was a variety of olives, the largest green one was a bit sour, but all of the olives were delicious warm. My ONLY complaint is that there should have been more of the roasted/soft garlic YUM! And eventually, although tempted by only ordering a bunch of small plates ended up order the Risotto w/ Shrimp and Mushrooms and Citrus. And ended up adding truffle oil as well (at the recommendation of Shannon) LOVED that the shrimp came tails off. The risotto was cooked well. I probably could have gone without the truffle oil NOT because it wasn't good but because it was so rich. Very delicious. Atmosphere is very quaint and vintage. Would recommend! read more

My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday evening and luckily we had reservations. The Fly Trap is located in a beautiful old building with lots of charm and character. There is a large bar with plenty of seating to grab a beverage and watch a game. We began our order with Fried Calamari. Tasty and well done. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese and my wife ordered the Gnocchi. Both dishes came of fresh and hot. Portions were acceptable. The Rigatoni was a bit heavy on the sauce and not al dente. We walked in around 7pm for dinner with a group of four and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. The service was great from the start. The staff were very personable and joked around with us throughout the meal, which made the experience even more enjoyable. They were also fairly quick when bringing out our food. For appetizers, we ordered the fried calamari, roasted garlic hummus, arancini, and fried Brussels sprouts. The arancini normally comes with three pieces, but since there were four of us, they kindly added an extra one, which was a nice touch. All of the appetizers were perfect for sharing and honestly the highlight of the meal. Everything was flavorful and we almost finished it all, with just a little bit of the Brussels sprouts left. The reason for the four-star rating is the "Bomb Ass Burger." It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the name. It tasted like a pretty standard burger and the patty could have used a bit more seasoning to bring out the flavor. Overall, it's a great spot to grab drinks and share some really solid appetizers. Great Dinner at the Fly Trap! Yelp has been steering me towards this place for some time and I finally got the chance to try! Arrived around 6:45pm and sat right at the bar. I'm forever rolling solo and the bar is my favorite place in a restaurant. This spot is so cute and kitschy inside. Kitschy, but cozy and quaint. Loved all the decor and relaxed vibe. To start, the bartender gave me a sip of a 2019 Rioja. So good, I had to immediately get a glass. For food, I initially got the Mixed Greens salad. Oh my! I know i've reached peak adulthood since I can really appreciate a delicious salad like this one. Spring mix with golden raisins, feta, and perfectly sliced red onion. So delicious! I could have happily eaten two of these, it was just that simple and yummy. I also had the brussel sprouts which were great as well. Perfectly broiled with bacon and in a yummy honey vinaigrette. This could have easily been shared with two people. Such a healthy portion. To finish off my meal, I had probably one of the best Mai Tai's Ive had in a while! It was super tasty! Totally loved it! Cool place, a great blend of vibe, ambiance and just solid drinks and food. I started out with the "smoke and mirror" cocktail, a nice sweet-tart blend that went down smooth. Debated for a while and just went with the ribeye plate with asparagus and scallopped potatoes. Steak was perfectly cooked, not oversized and well seasoned. Grabbed a glass of really nice rioja to go with it. Ate at the bar, bartender was friendly and attentive but not overly so. Watched Detroit beat Cleveland in OT 122-119 so entertainment was built in. We spent our New Year's Eve dinner here. We ended up eating outside despite the rain as those were the only tables available, and how well did it work out! The ambiance was still amazing, I loved how it was decorated. Our heirloom tomatoes were delicious. We both enjoyed the meals we had, roasted chicken and their steak. My boyfriend loved the carrots my chicken came with. He thinks the steak was fine for the price. The service was a bit rough, but we were given a heads up. Our drinks were clearly forgotten, several times as people who got there after us got their drinks first, so we had to ask for it 3 times. Happy hour 3-5 Monday to Friday. It's $2 off a list of items, including house wine and cocktails. The wallpaper and drapes have been here since the 1970's, and the restaurant itself longer than that by a lot. The building is an old hotel, and is a historical landmark. This place is sooo adorable and romantic. I loved the outdoor patio, it was very cute. The food and drinks were great. The Fly Trap was just down the hill on Folsom, right around the corner deom our hotel, so one night, we decided to have dinner there. The ambience was beautiful. Low soft lightning, warm and cozy on a chilly evening in San Francisco. We were seated, inmediately and looked over the menu. Last time I was here was almost 15 years ago. I remembered I had really great experience then and I just went recently, it was still amazing! I came with a big group. The restaurant is small but we got a long table to sit 14 of us. It was tight but we enjoyed the time together. I ordered the Mai Thai for drink and risotto for entree. We also order the brussel sprouts, calamari, shrimp skewers and arancini for appetizers to share in the group. When they say it's small plate, it is small. The foods were amazing! We started with a bowl of hot olives which at most places would wind up being your run of the mill olives you can find anywhere. The Fly Trap offered a nice assortment which was a nice surprise. First time diner here. Love the history of this 140 year old restaurant, cute interiors, cocktails were great, service was friendly, but the food could be better. Came here for a birthday dinner and ordered Brussels sprouts and calamari for starters, then shared the shrimp risotto and grilled medium rare rib eye steak with potato gratin with my husband. The Brussels sprouts were burnt, giving it a bitter flavor. The risotto was creamy and shrimp cooked well (just be careful eating it as it's piping hot) but that was definitely NOT a rib eye steak, more likely a skirt steak as it was so darn tough to chew. It wasn't cooked medium rare either. Everyone who ordered it at the table agreed. The accompanying potatoes had a strange flavor from the yellow spice (was it turmeric?) and no cream for a gratin. They treated the birthday celebrator with a complimentary bread pudding, which was a thoughtful touch. In a city with so many good restaurants, it's hard to mess up a classic steak dinner. The drinks were all delicious- so many cool sounding combinations it's hard to choose. Each of us were happy with ours - I don't think you could go wrong. Recommended by a hotel bartender near by, and rightfully so. Loved this quaint restaurant. The server said the menu is American with an Italian flair and she was pretty accurate. Menu offers something for everyone and not overly complex. Though not exceptional good, The Fly Trap with its prime location in FiDi is a great spot for impromptu company dinners or happy hour drinks. My team came here to celebrate the commencement of our semiannual planning. It took quite a while for us to place our orders; in fact, our sister team finished their meals before our waitress took our orders. We had a few small dishes to share, namely, the calamari and roasted beets which were all pretty good but hard to mess up. I had the grilled salmon as a main which left no lasting impressions and was far from noteworthy. It was nice of them to comp our desserts, the reason for my extra star. In sum, the Flytrap is decent not spectacular but if you're seeking a gastronomic paradise at a company dinner, then I really don't know what to tell you. read more
