So excited to be here, right in our neighborhood

Another great pool brought to us by SF Parks & Rec. The Hamilton Recreation Center recently underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment and it shows: The pool is pristine, the rec rooms for basketball, ping pong and games are organized and well-maintained and (I hear) the locker rooms are clean and beautiful- and thoughtfully designed with water conservation in mind. (My child was at first confused how to use the showers as the shower heads have built-in motion sensors). And once again, it's the fantastic Parks & Rec staff who makes these swim lessons a fun, learning experience for the children. Small groups (this class has 6 children in it) guarantee lots of 1:1 attention. I'm still amazed that such an outstanding program is so unbelievably affordable: It's only $18 for five weekly, half hour swim lessons! Financial aid is also available for this and all Parks & Rec programs.

Have you seen the water slides inside this place? They're epic looking. As a kid, being the water child that I was, I would have killed for the opportunity to clumsily propel myself down those chutes. Have you played late night HORSE here on their basketball courts? There's no one around. The courts are yours and watching your shot go in, nothing but net, underneath the moon's glow - is something else. (oh and only try this - if you're nice and quiet - so as to be respectful of sleeping neighbors) Have you played on the tennis courts yet? Free (I believe) and in the midst of the city. Banging balls over the net - as cars cruise by. Hamilton Recreation Center - may not be perfect - but it exists for the community. It's a resource that was built for the public - and I find it hard to hate on something - that's sole purpose is to help make athletic activities - like swimming, basketball, and tennis - more accessible to San Francisco locals. Trust.

I went for a swim this morning - they're still ironing out some of the kinks, most of which were taken care of by the time I finished my swim.

At first, I was going to be on our way but then we saw that they have a T.Rex Safari adventure and I knew my son would love it. We decided to purchase tickets for this and had to walk back to the front of the pier, where the rides are actually located (above Hard Rock Cafe). We were the only ones in the theater as it was the middle of the week when we came. We only had to wait five minutes before they let us in and we had our pick of seating. When the ride starts, the guardrail goes down so you're exposed to the screen and at first I was actually kind of scared by how high we were. Once the ride started though, I was so caught up in the experience that I forgot my fear. We soared over prehistoric dinosaurs and got to run with them before diving into the waters and trying to escape from sharks and other water dinosaurs. Then we went back up and had a T.Rex chase us trying to eat us. Overall, a very cool experience and one that my son loved.

I did the flyer ride. It is about a seven or eight minute ride, It was a lot of fun. It's one of those where you sit in the seats, and then the floor drops out from under you, and it is like you are flying over the city. The wind blows in your face, and when you were going over the water, you feel just a little bit of a spray. I don't want to give anything away, but it does take you all over the city. It was really a lot of fun. The only reason I'm taking off a star, is because the flyer ride is a bit expensive. It's $14 per person, adult or child. That wasn't too bad for myself, but if you are more than two or three people, it can add up. Regardless, it was well worth the money for myself to do. I wouldn't come back to see the same movie, but if they changed it, I would ride it again.. This ride is also part of the "San Francisco city pass. I had fun.. Thanks!

The park is huge and museums, lakes, and cultural attractions like the Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences. Then I kept going! When I got to the conservatory of flowers, I turned around and went all the way back and down past rainbow falls, Lloyd lake, past Hellman hollow to Spreckle's lake, said hello to the Bison and took a left and exited just past chain of lakes. What an adventure! I saw red tail hawks, blue jays, blue herons, all kinds of ducks, two turtles and of course the Bison. There are some beautiful views, art exhibitions, interactive displays and tons of photo worthy spaces. There are these beautiful pianos set up throughout the park for the public to play which I enjoyed practicing on. So many of the local plants are blooming so the flowers and trees sing with life. I stuck to the pedestrian trails but there are so many options off the beaten path for both hike vibes and bike rides. With the unique variety of San Francisco weather, it can go from overcast to sunny in a matter of moments, so it's always nice to have layers.
