very disappointed ...this was my second experience with this office. The first trip they insisted on a vac and my dog was sick. I complied but felt they just wanted the extra money. The vac almost killed my dog because he was weak to begin with. Now on to the second encounter ...The same dog is almost 15 years old...I ask for them to write a RX for prednisone as that is the only thing that is helping him to eat and walk. They said they would have to do a $200 home visit. I agreed, then they said he would need blood work...Blood work? my dog is on deaths door...there is NOTHING blood work will do to help him...In my opinion it seems this Vet is more concerned about the money than the pet. Sad. I will end by saying the gal that I talked to was very nice. read more

I took my dog Maurice there with a huge mass on his back leg. It was all infected, and he was absolutely miserable and chewed some of the tumor off himself and it was a big infected mess! Doctor K was absolutely awesome. Gave me an estimate and a date to come back in and have it removed. He was upfront with everything very kind, honest, gentle and empathetic and you can tell how much he cares. The big day came and Maurice had his surgery, which was a very big surgery , and he did absolutely awesome and is doing absolutely wonderful!! Everyone at Hamlin was so kind, considerate, helpful, knowledgeable, and so sweet to me and Maurice! As a vet tech myself, I have worked at many different vets offices, and this one is definitely a top notch five star Vet! Doctor K has been in contact with me himself to check on Maurice and it's so kind and helpful. I couldn't ask for anything more! Needless to say, I will be bringing all of my animals there from now on as they are so wonderful and I am so happy with their services. I just left dr k with my Hershey. He's honestly the best doctor for my baby's he takes the time to explain never ever feel rushed and my boy loves him I highly recommend him . Was up at our vacation lake house on Lake Wallenpaupack on July 5th and noticed my dog started peeing straight blood. Luckily I was able to get an emergency appointment at 2 pm when EVERYONE else in the area had 4 hour waits or was completely booked for the day. They let me send records from my dogs typical vet through email, and I was treated with respect and professionalism the entire time after I arrived. The place was really clean and well organized. Everyone was SO nice! Dr. Kurapati (aka Dr. K) was thorough, explained everything, and gave me step by step options. The tech also asked if I wanted estimates because they ran a bunch of tests, which I really appreciated. I love when vets don't just take your money. Highly recommend! read more

I love this vet. Even though I moved out of the area 4 years ago, I still drive there for my animals. I have dealt with Dr Platko specifically for most of the time I have been going there. She is always very patient and warm and friendly. She never makes me feel rushed or like my question is invalid or stupid. She never gives me half answers and she has always taken time out of her busy day when I needed a call back to return a call. Recently I had to euthanize my 12 yr old cat due to cancer. She took the time to hand write a card and mail it. Little things like that make me love this vet and happily make the drive back to bring my pets in. read more

My dog sadly recently passed and they were kind and gentle and accommodating, Dr. Shaffer is very sweet and genuinely cares. I honestly feel bad about going to a new vet with my new dog, but some of the other staff members are awful and I can never reach anyone, forced to leave answering machine messages that are never returned. I had to call several times (yes, during business hours) just to try make an appointment, and eventually gave up anyway because it was for an ear infection and they said they couldn't get me in for over a month. A vet tech and a receptionist though have made this place nightmarish recently. One vet tech is kind of nasty and has a bad attitude, I thought she was a vet (see previous review) and I hadn't seen her for some time, but she is still there and still accusatory and snippy. One receptionist (I think - she was both behind the desk working on stuff and also in the exam room, so it's hard to tell) also has a horrible attitude, I had to bring my dog to Cherry Ridge at one point last year because Hamlin didn't have any open slots and it was a pressing issue, the next time I came in they didn't have his records from CR even though I had emailed them after. That's their fault then, but the woman got angry and said, "Well, maybe if you didn't bring your dog to three or four different vets we wouldn't have this problem!" HUH? I only brought him to ONE other vet, emailed you the records they gave me which YOU lost, and then you have the nerve to exaggerate and blame it on me?! I went back to Cherry Ridge which is much further and more inconvenient, but at least the staff is nice and competent. There are nice techs and receptionists at Hamlin, but the bad ones just drag the place down. Please get rid of these people, they're deterring clients, trust me! read more

Pets are not important to the drs in this office. It's all about the $$ I guess. I had an emergency situation with my small dog. When I called at 4:50 pm, I was told that the dr recommended I take her to emergency care because they were closing soon. However, their hours posted says they close at 6pm. Their office is 10 mins from my home. Emergency care is 1 hr away. Evidently the pet is not important to them. I immediately picked up my dog's records and will not return to their office. read more

I've been bringing my 13 year old dog to HVC for over 10 years and have been thrilled with the vets and their care. With that said, they have been completely and utterly horrible since Covid. While I certainly understand the restrictions, they gave me an appt 45 days out for my elderly dog who has been suffering with a severe skin condition. I also called back in March when I thought my dog had broken her foot with a similar response. Needless to say I will be taking my precious pup elsewhere. Unconscionable. When we moved here some four years ago, this was one of three different vets we tried. Not completely happy with any of them, we ended up at Hamlin Vet most often because it is the closest. Having been "in dogs" for thirty odd years...breeding, training and showing...and through membership in national dog clubs and continuing education and experience, I have my own deeply held beliefs about what is best for my dogs. It is hard to believe in this day and age that there are still vets out there pushing annual vaccinations for our beloved canine friends...in spite of STAGGERING amounts of evidence to suggest that they are not only unnecessary, but dangerous. Every major Vet school in the country has gone to recommending a 3 year protocol...which while still a compromise, is at least a step in the right direction. Follow the money, my friends. It has been estimated that 40% of some vets' income comes from administering vaccines...necessary or not. So these people told a shelter that called them to ask about us that the only time they saw our dogs was for euthanasia. Not only was this untrue, but the tech I spoke to admitted that the reason was because some of our dogs were intact (not illegal) and did not have annual vaccines (also not illegal). If you're looking for a care and compassion for your animal completely passed this place up. This is a pass the puck kind of place. The fully empty waiting room was too busy to even take a look at my pet. The lack of bedside manner and compassion from the staff is way the word veterinary clinic is a bad word. Couldn't tell you if the doctors are any good but if the attitude of the staff to a pet in need is a reflection. Take the advice that the staff give me, go anywhere else but Hamlin Veterinary clinic. There iced cover parking lot and main entrance filled with boxes is a falling hazard to but you and your pet. So not only do they not care, you may need a doctor after going here. We've been taking our animals here for years, even since Dr. Bullmore was there. When we sadly had to have our very old, sick cat "let go," they were incredibly compassionate and kind. The Dr plainly cared about our feelings, let us take our time, and offered genuine condolences. On a less depressing note, our dogs receive top-notch care from friendly staff who are pleasant but professional. The clinic is always clean and has a really cute place for the kids to play in. Their care is usually average pricing (fair), but they cleaned my senior dog's teeth (which included extractions) for only $400 or so - another clinic had quoted me $1,400! Hamlin Vet was $1,000 CHEAPER! I love this clinic and so do my dogs! Update: I've stopped taking my dog here and switched to Cherry Ridge (even though it means driving an additional 15-20 minutes). A couple of staff members have become very unhelpful, it's next to impossible to get my dog's medicine from them (they want me to buy my medication directly through them now, as opposed to when they would just write the prescription and let me pick it up from Rite-Aid. Rite-Aid has the identical medication for much cheaper than what HVC charges, but HVC now refuses to write the prescription), but one particular experience stands out more than the rest. While cleaning up around the house, I accidentally dropped about 1/3 of a chocolate bar. My dog gobbled it up before I could even blink, and I panicked and called the vet to ask if I should make him throw up. When I called, the woman who answered was impatient and put me on hold for several minutes (after pulling my dog's file to make sure he was a patient there), and reminded me he was due for a shot, and that I should make an appointment. I asked about the chocolate, she said I should "just go to the e-clinic" because they were closing in 30 minutes. Before I could even ask anything else, she said goodbye and hung up. Gee, glad to see you care about my dog getting his shot but not as to whether or not he's going to get sick in the immediate future. I called up Cherry Ridge and they said he should be fine, but gave me the number to the emergency clinic just in case, before even asking if my dog was a patient there (which he was/is). I called the EC and they said he'd be fine (which he was, thankfully), but after the havoc was over I realized how carelessly Hamlin had handled the situation. I know I called 30 minutes before closing, but there shouldn't have been a complete lack of concern on their part. They could have just given me the EC's number instead of essentially hanging up on me and it wouldn't have affected the time they were due to leave. And in any case, since when should a sick animal's health come LAST in their day? This experience is what made me switch over to Cherry Ridge completely. I'm sad some lazy/jaded employees had to ruin it for everyone else, but I just can't bring my dog to a clinic where only HALF of the staff cares. read more

Prompt, courteous, helpful... I think they're great here. I called at 8:00am about my dog's possible urinary tract infection and got in at 2:15 the same day. The doctor was kind and thorough and I'm confident in her opinions. Some people think they're pricey, but I paid $126 for the exam, urine tests, and a week's supply of antibiotics. A few months ago my husband, dogs, and I relocated to the area from NM. Before we left NM our 11 year old lab started a strange pant. I took him to the vet there who diagnosed him with bronchitis. Through the move he did not improve with his meds, so I took him to the e Clinic here. There he was diagnosed with lymphoma and it was so bad they couldn't believe he was still walking. He deteriorated in a matter of two days and we had to euthanize him. My father in law has used Hamlin Vet Clinic for years and recommended we go there, as we were new and didn't have our own vet and we just didn't feel comfortable doing it at an e Clinic. The staff and doctor at Hamlin Vet Clinic were amazing. They were sympathetic, gave us all the time we needed, and they have a beautiful rainbow bridge room you are in while it happens. In one of the most painful moments in our lives, it was just a little bit better thanks to this hospital. The dr even cried with us as he took his last breaths. I can never thank this caring hospital enough for being so kind to us and our boy. read more
