I would not recommend and would never take another animal here again, especially to see Dr. Fraysee. Our 9.3 year old pit mix, Otis, seemed lethargic for about a month. On the morning of Friday, March 6, 2026, when he didn't want to eat his breakfast, I called his vet office, Hampstead Animal Hospital, and got a 2:15 pm appointment and it was with Dr. Frayesse. They did blood work and an Xray at about a cost of $1,380. Dr. Fraysee came back in after the Xray with a woman (either a Vet or a Vet Tech and I don't remember her name) with a woozy Otis and literally "dropped a bomb" and said these words to me: "The bloodwork shows that he is a little anemic. The Xray shows that he has a large mass (showed me with his hands in a circle about the size of a large orange) in his spleen. His spleen needs to be removed before it ruptures. Once the spleen is removed, it can be biopsied to see if it's benign." He may have said something else but I was in shock and then he walked out of the room. The woman suggested I schedule an ultrasound for Otis on Monday, March 9th at 8:15 am for better imaging and reiterated that it could rupture and that surgery should be scheduled soon. I asked her about the benign comment and asked about a needle biopsy. She said due to fragile nature of these masses, it could rupture so it's recommended the spleen be removed and biopsied. I asked her how much the surgery would be and she said about $10,000. I think my mouth may have fallen open in surprise, that much? She left to go check their surgeon's schedule. Not once did they mention CANCER but that is what I gathered. I had never even heard of spleen masses or tumors before and I was in shock and crying in their office. When she came back, she said their surgeon was booked all next week and handed me 2 brochures, Port City and Bulger Hospital, and a magnet with contact information for Rockingham County Emergency Vet in Windham. Seriously???? I was only able to leave with Otis after handing her my credit card which she brought out front to run while I stayed with Otis. I called 2 of the hospitals and did a ton of research before his ultrasound on Monday. Dr. Storey called with his results. He explained that Otis had many more masses within his spleen but that he didn't see any sign of spread to other organs. But that didn't necessarily mean microscopic cells that they can't see are not there or that in surgery, a mass could be on another organ that they can't see on the ultrasound. He said that the Xray on Friday showed fluid in his abdomen, which meant he was already having bleeding episodes that then clotted and stopped. (Dr. Frayesse did not mention this on Friday). He said that they use a calculator to estimate the risk of malignancy based on several factors. Found at the end of this review. He said due to internal bleeding episodes, the size of masses and multiple masses, he said Otis is at an 80% chance of it not being benign. Again, no one says CANCER. He did recommend yunnan baiyao, a Chinese herb that can help with blood clotting. I told him we were going to schedule an at home euthanasia and he said he understood and that Otis was ready to be picked up. I didn't feel an herb would help him much as his spleen could rupture at any time. When I went to pick him up, the same women that was in the room with the original "bomb being dropped on me" brought Otis in with me and asked if I'd made a decision? I replied, "Yes, you have given us no choice. I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that you are recommending a $10,000 surgery to remove his spleen with an 80% chance of it being cancer and that even with his spleen removed, if it's HSA cancer, he'd be lucky to make it 1-3 months. And you need to do the surgery for a definitive diagnosis and so it won't rupture. I'm mad and we don't want to put him through this! I think I said something sarcastic about only the wealthy can afford pets these days." She just nodded and then said I could go out front a pay for the ultrasound, another $648 dollars, and she would bring Otis out once that was done. Between the lack of empathy, lack of communication, lack of details regarding the surgery itself and possible outcomes, his risk for surgery, lack of help when I just got a bombshell diagnosis dropped on me...I'm at a loss for words. I just feel like this place prioritizes profit over services and pushes for emergency surgery at an exorbitant cost. Dr. Fraysee's bedside manners are horrible, and I feel that we were just encouraged to go through with a high risk, high-cost surgery with an 80% chance of it being a horrible cancer where his quality of life would have deteriorated rapidly. My heart is still broken. I'm still devastated over a month later and keep doing the "what if's" and should we have done the surgery? The guilt is horrible and I miss him so much. I still cry every day. He was way too young in my opinion. I thought we had a lot more time left with him. read more

We were referred to this vet clinic by some friends who are animal lovers to the max. I first needed care for my beagle who had been having problems with her knee. She had a successful surgery performed and is 100% perfect and living life thanks to the great Drs. and staff at this vet clinic. My second big interaction with this clinic happened recently when it was time to have our 16 year old dog euthanized. He had not been there before as a patient since we hadn't transferred his records over yet from his previous vet. When I called Hampstead Animal Hospital to request help for him and explain what we were needing they were so receptive and caring. When we brought him in, as sad as it was, we were comforted by this kind and caring staff who we were so grateful for. A bigger than I am used Vet hospital in the southwest part of Hampstead. Excellent service with multiple vets and friendly helpful staff. They are open 7 days a week and have some extended hours in the evenings which helps with work schedules. Changed some of our dogs meds for the better. Very happy with the results and the recommendations. read more

My sister recommended Hampstead Animal Hospital to me. I have three yorkies and brought my youngest there for the first time this week. The staff was SO friendly; smiles everywhere! We saw Dr. Hwang for a wellness check and a follow up for some abnormal blood results. She listened to us and took our thoughts into consideration when developing a plan for my little Oliver. We received a call the next day as promised with his lab results and everything was explained very thoroughly. We can't wait to go back! On a side note, I am severely allergic to cats and the facility was so clean that I didn't get asthma like I typically do when in an animal hospital. read more

I just got henry back and after just a leg " injury" my dog now has liver damage and anemia .... Hampstead animal hospital, they gave them all wrong meds after $3000 they called to say to take him to a specialist??? I thought they were the specialist. First time I'll let them take care of one of my dogs ever... they always over charge and usually they r wrong... Henry was eating. I spent a lot of money at this place on the same thing over and over again. Never a diagnosis, always the same treatment, always make you come in to see your pet with the same problem, same treatment, nothing different except I'm buying a wing in the newish hospital. Unless you are wealthy and like to throw your money away I don't recommend them. I gave them over 4 years to prove themselves, what a dissapointment. DR. F. USELESS... I initially was very impressed with the hospital and liked their hours, but first impressions aren't always right. I found the hospital to be more about making money and less about the welfare of my pets. Today was the last straw. They had called me 2 days before my dog's appointment and said you missed an appointment, and we will cancel your appointment if you don't call us by 7PM and pay 50 dollars. So, feeling they were holding my dogs blood tests hostage....I paid the 50 dollars. I went to the appointment today and was told unless I got a vaccination they recommended, my dog wouldn't be allowed to be seen. My dog hasn't had that vaccine in a good 8 years and is a house bound dog. I refused the vaccine and they refused to see my dog. Not to mention my other dog which is also elderly had a huge growth removed- they wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars to have it biopsied. I refused, they pushed back again but finally allowed me to deny the biopsy. I feel bad they send techs out to deal with the clients and act as a buffer so the vet doesn't need to deal with our push back. I'm furious and will be seeking a different vet. Pet care should be their number one priority. People are strapped for money right now and should be able to make decisions about their pets care without fear of losing pet care read more

I take both my dogs to this vet after they were able to successfully treat my dog's allergy problem. She was chewing her feet over a two year period on and off. After several visits to her other Vet, it was not getting better and she started chewing her paws raw. I took her to Hampstead for grooming and they asked if I wanted a vet to look at her feet. I said yes. The Vet recommended a course of action and she stopped chewing within days. Was better within 1 week. Healed within two weeks. Now- a year later, still no issues. I now bring both my dogs here for treatment and grooming. read more

My son, took his cat here to get an ultrasound to see if there was an obstruction. They called him with the result that he had cancer and recommended euthanization. My son was at work out of town, so he told them to go ahead and do it. My son then called his 15 year old son to tell him. I, his grandmother, went and picked up my grandson to console him and I asked him if he'd like to go to the Vet and say goodbye to his cat. When I took him there, I knew there was a possibility that we'd be too late so I asked if it was. They told me no, it wasn't too late because they always wait until they are fully paid before the euthanize. The receptionist called and processed the payment over the phone, while we waited. When she was finished she called us into the next room and I asked if I could see where they were keeping the cat. She told us to sit down and said she was sorry but they already had done it. She lied to us first to get the payment, I'm sure of it! I thought it was soooo sleazy! I'll never go there again! read more

After having a back to back awful experiences at a different local vet I gave Hampstead Animal Hospital a call last night when our dog became unable to walk. I was so hesitant to reach out to a different office as they would not have the past medical records of our dog readily available to them, however I refused risk the health of my dog by calling the former vet. Within minutes of my initial phone call, any concerns I had were gone. The warmth, compassion, professionalism and true care they show for your beloved pet is felt instantly. Began taking our Irish Wolfhound pup here in April 2017. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, both to my pet and myself. The vet and vet techs discuss my dog's health concerns and other preventive health issues thoroughly and listen to my concerns and questions related to owning a giant breed, which has different considerations than other large dogs. I had read a previous review online from a client who was unhappy that HAH would not approve ordering online flea control, etc. meds, which is untrue. I just found out that they WILL write a prescription for clients to buy meds online, but that a waiver must be signed to absolve the hospital of any side effects/problems from online meds, which I feel is very fair. Check out their website to see a COMPLETE veterinary service, possibly no need to ever have to go to Tufts Animal Hospital for surgeries, or procedures. The veterinarians and techs treat my cats with a noticeable and evident compassion and concern for their health. My cats are considered geriatric, and all the problems that ensue. The staff here, by far, is the greatest, and I don't say that lightly. Their available services are astounding. .again check out the website and check the vets' credentials and specialties...I will never have to go elsewhere for anything. I am relieved to have found this animal hospital. The staff works as a team...when a situation would occur that needed to be checked, all 4 vets KNOW your pet's history before you even arrive. I am beyond thrilled with the care and patience we received at Hampstead Animal Hospital. After consulting another local vet and feeling as though we were being dismissed, I was referred to Hampstead. My sweet pup had a large mass that was growing like crazy and clearly needed to be removed. After examining her, the vet decided we should take an x-ray and then an ultrasound to determine if what they believed to be cancer had spread. Dr. Storey's bed side manner was nothing short of exceptional. He was very understanding when I became upset about the gravity of the situation. We received good news that nothing had spread and we scheduled the surgery for the following week. They kept us informed every step of the way and we followed all their recommendations. After my girl left the hospital, they called me every day to follow up on her progress. It took a little bit, but I am happy to report that she is doing great! Finally eating and even acting like her old sassy self. It is so nice to see the bum wag back! We still have another week before the stitches are removed, but I can't thank all the staff at the hospital for their kindness and their amazing customer service. My girl is my baby and I want only the best for her. I highly recommend Dr. Storey and his team at Hampstead Animal Hospital. Top notch on all levels!
