I was very nervous using a new vet since moving here but I am so glad I chose them. I had to get my main coon shaved due to mats because she won't allow grooming. Dr John was amazing and genuinely cared about her treatment. Dr Q saw her first and gave her the physical and did well. My cat did not bite them so I was pleasantly happy. We use the daycare for our new dog Fiona . She knows where she is when we pull in and drags me inside to see her friends ! I have been using this vetanarian office a total of 7 yrs. We always come early for our appointments. This morning we were exactly 5min late. Due to my husband being disabled and I out of a leg cast we had to wait for handicap space. Immediately got an attitude from desk person. Then we waited before going into a room wasn't even busy!!! Asked to change room they put us in due to we put our last dog to sleep in that room yrs ago. Then another room sat 25min like being punished. Then we walked out to reception, couldn't wait anymore!!! got more attitude. Now we are there 45min haven't been seen !! No emergency no explanation nothing. Then see a new vet for a quick recheck 3min. Said my dog had a ear infection 3sec look 2sec look for original problem. Charged over 200 dollars . Then the older woman at desk took forever was a bitch about our address we updated the same address 3 times now!!! My husband said he is running late she wouldn't check us out till she played with updating info total attitude terrible experience Have never been treated so poorly!!! My husband was late for work got huge attitude like we did something wrong and felt my dog was not taken care of .Don't even believe she has an ear infection had dry skin from weather !!!. Have taken my kitties here for years. I bought Pet plan for all of my cats and it works perfectly. With the plan, you don't need to worry about anything because the staffs will remind you if your pet is due and you also don't need to worry about the costs because they are all included in your plan. They send you a cute postcard to remind you and all you need is call and book appointment for your fury pet. Staffs are super friendly and take care your best friend like their. I have never had a problem about my vet appointments nor the services. The manager which I think her name is Lauren, is super helpful too. She helped us out when we need Vet documents for our cars and re-book our appointments when we can't make it. Highly recommend for anyone who want make sure their pets in good care and healthy. The staff was kind, but did not feel that my cat's health was thoughtfully considered (by the vet). I had an appointment Tuesday 3/2/21 at 10:30am for an annual visit and because my cat Quinn's vagina and rear had been extra smelly/dirty. The vet did run blood work, but did not see anything abnormal, and mostly said to look into helping her lose weight with the recommended foods they sell. Had low quality/low rated and expensive food recommended to address her weight issue (Hills/Purina Pro/Royal Canin). After that, it got worse. I ended up trying Amherst Animal Hospital. Dr. Hotz was great and was able to address my cats issues. The testing and appointment also cost about half of what Merrimack charged. read more

They take care of our two dogs and unfortunately the prices have gone too high. They also want us to give our dogs the flu shot! Another unnecessary cost. New vet said they haven't had a case of dog flu in 5 plus years!! It's too bad because we liked them otherwise. UPDATE!!! After their response I gave them ANOTHER chance. I brought my pup in because he had blood in his stool. The vet did not ask for a stool sample, no X-ray to see if he ate some thing bad for him, nothing!! Told me to see the dog therapist she uses. I asked for suggestions of what to do seeing she stated her dog had the same"nervous condition" and she referred me to the therapist again without giving me a single suggestion to help my dog! I am here for your care and paying you! The least you can do is give me a tip on his nervousness that you know!! I am now payed over $200.00 for this horrible unhelpful visit! In veterinary medicine, it is always important to "treat both sides of the leash" but never is it more important than when dealing with a disabled person with a medical alert service dog! How much a service dog truly transforms a person's life cannot be understated! For someone like me forced to overcome quadriplegia, my dog Dharma is a monumental thing! This month it was utterly horrifying for me when my service dog needed attention and Merrimack Valley Animal Hospital on Daniel Webster Highway dropped the ball. Refusing to see my service dog they dispensed a medication that had recently been the possible cause of death for my sister's dog. In 2-weeks time no one has addressed my concerns at POS, text messages, FB messages, e-mails even a registered letter returning the prescription. Not a phone call from even a receptionist or kennel boy. My wish for Merrimack Veterinary Hospital is that they be mortal and someday need help themselves, so they can learn compassion beyond chasing the almighty dollar! P.S. My dog is doing much better. One in particular has a complex medical history of diabetes. Dr Alysha Gonsalves has been so helpful, empathetic and she is passionate with her patients (and me). I never write poor reviews, but I just feel the need to warn others and to let MVH know how disappointed we are with the service and care we continue to receive. We have had countless poor experiences in the past few years, but we keep coming back. Today we made the decision to leave after almost a decade of care. We have been coming there for years for everything from annual visits to routine dental work. These are a few reasons why we are leaving: -surprise extra costs at every visit -surprise treatment we didn't know we needed -overlooked preventative care that we needed but we weren't told about -forgotten vaccines -seeing different doctors who we have never met almost every time -doctors who don't seem to care. -billing mistakes -incorrect record keeping or record sharing by the front desk staff First, the front desk never knows what is going on. Today the woman checking us out incorrectly told us what we've used on our paw plans and what we have left on our plans. She was looking at a previous year, after help she was able to see what we think is the correct information. She also tried to collect a payment that was already paid, again needed help from someone else at the front desk to not over charge us. We actually had one of our dogs not covered under a paw plan at all today, because when we updated our credit card information earlier this year, they only updated it for one of our dogs and not the other, causing the other plan to cancel. They did reach out to us when our card expired, we did give them the new information, it was the billing team who failed to update both dogs. This really did not surprise us thought and was a blessing in disguise as and we ended up just paying out of pocket for our dogs care today, so we could move on to a new vet. The biggest issue we have with the front office is being incorrectly told what our dogs are due for. Numerous times over the last few years I have brought my dogs in for one thing, and the assistants tell me he is overdue for something else or missed a vaccine. We've even gotten cards in the mail telling us our dog is due for something, and when we call to make an appointment we are told they are actually not due. Then when we go in for subsequent visits, we are told we missed vaccines. This is highly frustrating when what they tell me over the phone and in the exam room is conflicting information. We should be able to rely on our care team to tell us what our dogs need or have had accurately. This happens almost every time. Regarding our care, it seems that every time we go in we see a different vet. The one today didn't even bother to introduce himself and began examining my dog while the front desk was speaking to me about the paw plan. By the time she was done speaking, the doctor had finished his exam and was giving my dog shots. I had to stop them and clarify what was just given before he ran out of the room. The only thing he said was that my dog "looked healthy". I had to look on my receipt to even know who this man was. I will say that the assistant in the room Meghan was beyond kind, helpful, and informative. The assistants always are the ones who keep us coming back. They seem like the only ones that really do care. Unfortunately, once our oldest dog's paw plan expires we will be taking out fur babies somewhere where they are a little more organized and caring. Bedside manner is one thing, but accurate record keeping is important. Not being able to read a medical record when working in a care facility is dangerous. I fear that they will really harm someone's animal one day if they haven't already. read more

We have brought our 13 week old golden retriever puppy here a few times now for shots. She also had skin problems and an ear infection. Dr Dening and the MVH staff have all been amazing so far! Dr Dening always takes the time to thoughtfully and adequately answer every question I have , whether or not it's a silly question. I appreciate that he has advised me that my dog did not yet need a urinalysis or repeat fecal test even when I asked. He's clearly not money hungry, which is quite nice to see when you've already spent a lot of money on such a young dog. The facility is clean and I've never had such a knowledgeable vet in my previous experience as a pet owner. read more

If you're looking for a good vet's office, sadly MVH is not the place to go. They are a far cry from their once excellent place for service. Their front office service is beyond atrociously bad, poorly managed and unprofessional and has been going downhill for awhile now. I've taken my dog here for years and while the vets are good, the intensely aggravating poor service from the admin staff has finally driven me to find another place to go. They virtually never pick up the phone anymore and the rare time they do, you get put on hold interminably. The final straw came for me today when I went for my dog's annual checkup and tried to phone to check in while in the parking lot, as their COVID requirements still dictate and was kept on hold for more than 45 minutes, despite being there 15 minutes ahead of my appointment time. By 5pm where I'd still not been brought in for my now-late 4:30pm appointment, I just left and went home. This kind of level of service is wholly unacceptable. read more

First time ever coming here and I just got a puppy. The staff was sooo kind, even when I've called for questions they have been incredibly friendly. On 6/24 my bloodhound puppy went in, and Dr. Rochefort was soo patient and answered all the questions that I had, she even gave some recommendations and I appreciate that. Unfortunately just due to COVID-19 I was unable to go and meet her, and actually go in with Copper. I really love how friendly the staff was as well, I will be recommending Merrimack vet to all of my friends and family. Thank you again. read more

I've visited this vet a couple of times and could not be happier. My family recently moved to the area and the idea of trying to find a new vet was daunting. Shortly after our move, we had to take our dog to the emergency vet and while there we received a recommendation to bring him to Merrimack Vet for follow-up (and regular) care. The entire staff has always been pleasant with us and with our dog. He's vocal, but he's a total lovebug. Staff at other facilities have previously treated our dog as difficult because he has a lot to say. Have you ever heard a beagle baying? It's a hoot. Our dog has severe skin allergies and a previous history of cancer so we spend plenty of time getting to know the vets in his life. They've continued to work with us to help deal with his allergies even better than before, and were communicative and considerate through a recent adventure with a suspicious lump. I'm glad we got the recommendation to go here and that we've found great care for the furriest member of our family. Edited to add: We now bring our dog to the daycare at MVH and continue to have great experiences. They have morning, afternoon, or all day daycare options available at a reasonable price, provide report cards when you pick your dog up, and are often available for last minute scheduling. I love the added comfort of knowing that my dog is being watched by veterinary professionals during daycare and should anything happen to him, he's right where he needs to be for care. read more

The Best Vets on the Planet. It has taken me this long to write this......a few years ago, I took over the care of a friend's, elderly dog. The tiny (white) dog, arrived from the Southern, USA. She was a physical and emotional mess. Her health situation, had not been completely disclosed before she made the long journey, up to New Hampshire. The poor little thing, really should have been euthanized instead of being labelled "as ready for adoption". However, she was, and she arrived at a pre- determined, parking lot rescue site. She had a Vet visit with "Merrimack Veterinary Hospital (MVH"), right after her arrival. The tiny dog, was beyond malnourished, frightened and very, very frail. It was obvious that she had never experienced love, dental care or medical care, in her entire life. She was immediately given life saving care, by the Vets at MVH. They advised that her health situation was grave and would be very expensive to care for her. It was determined that this tiny, elderly dog was super special and that she was trying so hard to live. The MVH Drs. and their staff, took this broken, little creature under their wings and pulled out all the stops in their power, to save her life. She was treated to the utmost, conservative care. They LOVED her, every second that she was in their care. "Sherrie" the MVH resident Groomer (and staff), were super sweet and ultra- gentle, with this fragile, little dog. Sherrie and her team, gave my tiny girl the kindest care, and gentle, warm treatments. This little dog, had a wonderful life in New Hampshire. She became a "Pease Airport - Military Greeter" for 1 day. She enjoyed car rides, McDonald's Filet - o- fish sandwiches (inside only), warm eggs, sweet baths, and even "Hello Kitty" dog clothes (thank you, ETSY!), made especially for her tiny size. When this miniscule dog, could no longer go on, Dr, Gonsalves of MVH, made the final decision to let her go. Tiny girl, was treated to a full exam and many deep, warm cuddles with her Drs. (and from all of the staff of MVH). Her passing was intensely sad and very difficult. However, my tiny, sweet friend, was treated with the utmost care and gentleness. Dr. Gonsalves, wrapped this "Baby" girl in a blanket, full of love. Together, we let her go on to her tiny spot in "Poodle Heaven". I will always, always be eternally grateful for the wonderful staff, the deep humanity and love that my tiny girl, experienced every time we stepped into Merrimack Veterinary Hospital, Merrimack, NH. Thank you. Thank you. From the very bottom of our hearts to Dr. Gonsalves and staff. I (still) miss my tiny girl, everyday. Yet, I know that she is in a very happy, warm place and that I will see her again, later on in my life. read more

I took my aged Bull Terrier there for an ear infection. We got to talking about my dog and her ailments. They wouldn't see her until her records were transferred to them. In the exam room we talked of her being on prednisone for a number of years for severe allergies. We also discussed her weak back legs because of all the surgeries she's had. The gave me a sample of Deramaxx for her that cut in fourths lasted 1 month. I returned to my usual vet,Crossroads Animal Hospital and asked for the approval for Deramaxx script. The Vet called me back and said they could not do that because Prednisone and Deramaxx could not be taken together. Needless to say, I will not ever go back there. read more

They've taken great care of my 1 year old boxer puppy with recurrent UTIs and renal dysplasia. I couldn't be happier with the service I've received from them! I wanted to take this opportunity to post an update to my earlier review. I stand by the review that I wrote about this facility at that time. Back in June when we first discovered MVH they provided fine service to our pet. If not for this hospital we wouldn't have been lucky enough to have found the amazing dog trainer that we have. The staff that was in place at that time were phenemonal with my pet and made her feel truly comfortable. But within the past year virtually ever veterinarian and technician has changed from when we first went in. As the needs of our pet has changed, we have found that the staff which have been put in place do not adequately meet our needs. Only one doctor has remained the same, although we've not used his services for anything other than vaccines. The remaining veterinarians I think would be fine for run of the mill care. However, in recent months we have had unique situations with our dog, including gastrointestinal issues and behavioral questions, and the staff we've seen have been unable to help us. It is based on the recent staffing changes and appointments that we have chosen to seek care at another facility. read more

The doctor looked her over, and then started telling me every single thing WRONG with her. Very inconsiderate. Told me to pull 2 teeth would be 1500. Went to banfield hospital after. I picked my dog up from boarding at Merrimack Veterinary Hospital today and I'm very unhappy with his condition. We dropped him off Saturday morning and were shocked when we picked him up only a day later, on Sunday afternoon. He had fecal matter dried into the fur on his paws, legs, and butt. He smells awful, is dehydrated, and is walking a little funny. He also has a large abrasion on his nose- which was not mentioned to us. He's also very tired, but I can understand this part. We're left with a feeling that he's been neglected. Because of the Sunday afternoon pick-up we were charged for two days, which is policy, but only further confirms that we paid a lot for a bad experience. read more

I have taken my dog here for six years. I agree with other reviews that the veterinarians don't seem to stay on staff very long. The original team that was there 6 years ago is gone. Dr. Dening is now my dog's "regular" doctor and hopefully he'll stay there. The only reason this is an issue for me is because my dog takes a while to warm up to new people. With strangers, she gets stressed and agitated when being examined. Seeing a regular face would make things easier on her. Their on-site groomer, Sherri, is fantastic. She always does a great job, and my dog adores her. She has been there since my dog's first visit six years ago. My dog has always received the best of care. That is why I continue to bring her there, despite several moves to new areas. read more

Even though I moved further away from the clinic last summer, it is worth a slightly longer drive to continue to bring my pets here. I don't like that it is someone new every single time and they ALWAYS are either pushing un-necessary (expensive) procedures or wrangle us into buying their food (for special dietary issues -- our dog is like a billy goat -- eats everything). However, they are close by and the team upfront loves the animals that come in. Don't really have a better solution -- if you do, let us know! read more

Best experience we have ever had with a veterinary hospital. Dr. Denning and the staff are amazing. The doctor found serious conditions in our dog that our previous vet had not even noticed. He then took immediate action and resolved all of our dog's issues. He clearly loves his work and his patients, and his staff is very professional and friendly. These guys are the best! read more

Ours was an emergency situation which was addressed with a sense of urgency as well as sincere kindness and understanding. ALL our concerns and questions were addressed extremely quickly so that we were able to make our decision which resulted in our sweet Jewel getting the surgery she needed which ended up being life saving. Also want to mention that we had never been to this facility, so we had no prior relationship. I have been taking my animals to MVH for probably about 5 years now and I haven't seen the high turnover rate that others complain of here. Dr Dening has been there the whole time and Dr Smullen was there for years, saw both of my cats thru their final days, and cared for my dog before she left the practice. I've never felt pressured to spend exorbitant amounts of money and the staff has always been unbelievable to me. Tina was an absolute sweetheart when my Princess passed away, and Dr Smullen wrote me a personal note when Charles passed, even though I took his remains to a closer location for cremation. I am confident that what they suggest is reasonable and appropriate based on my follow up research. Their PAWs plans were a great way to budget for my pets basic needs throughout the year. Sherri the groomer is an absolute delight, and she groomed my Charles regularly, and did such a fine job he never got another furball once he started seeing her. I have had nothing but good experiences here, so i think its safe to say the poor reviews you see below are one off bad experiences on a bad day. They don't sound like the crew I am familiar with. I have moved out of Merrimack and I still take my pets there. read more

My husband and I moved to Merrimack late last year and initially chose Merrimack Veterinary Hospital due to their close proximity to our neighborhood. To our delight, we discovered on our very first visit that they were not only conveniently located, but, more importantly delivered fabulous care to our fur kids--both dogs and cats. I'm convinced Dr. Rochefort is an earth angel. She promptly and accurately diagnosed our cat's nasal lymphoma and put us on the best path to getting him the specialized care he needed. She saw one of our dogs (who had very suddenly lost her voracious appetite) on an emergency basis, when she was already very busy. She nevertheless took lots of time with us, explaining what might be the cause, and all of our options. We followed her advice, and Maddie was good as new in just a couple of days, but Dr. Rochefort still took time to call and check on her. Yesterday, we brought our male pup to be neutered and was told by his nurse that she couldn't help cuddling him all day, and today she called to follow up on how he was feeling. I cannot speak to any of the negative reviews I've read here, other than to say that our experiences couldn't be any better, and we can't recommend the hospital (and especially Dr. Rochefort) more enthusiastically.
