I recently stayed a night here since I was making my way to Detroit and this was a solid halfway point that I wanted to call a night for. The hotel is right by the highway though I think the location is a bit obscure. You got a Home Depot within walking distance but that's really about it. There's a lot of weird characters around the hotel so just be very cautious of your surroundings. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and social. Rooms were very clean and well kept. I couldn't rate the breakfast since I wasn't staying in the morning but the lobby was really clean and I was satisfied with my visit. Checking in was that an issue at all either. read more

The thermostat was more than accommodating to my preferences. The art was something else. I couldn't look away. The desk was a cozy alcove for drafting work-documents. The hair dryer was the perfect temperature for my snacking needs. Despite having drawn the blackout curtains on the windows, I had a sneaking suspicion that someone was watching me. Paranoia overwhelmed me as I searched the room high and low for cameras, bugs, or wires or any sort. Afterwards, I realized that I had left the webcam on my computer on after a company meeting. My party had a great experience at this hotel. Check in was fast and easy. The room was clean and breakfast was good as expected. The only negatives was the people across from us would put their food bags out in the hall and they weren't picked up until the next morning. It really grossed me out as this isn't like a 5 star hotel with room service pick up...so to see like to go boxes in the hallway for hours was gross..but I think this is more on those guests. The area. I did get a very run down vibe from it. We were in town for a wedding and the first day I just popped the address into the gps and the drive there was shocking to me. Lots of abandoned properties. When coming home I made sure to drive a longer route to the south and on the highway. The hotel is right off the highway in almost the Home Depot parking lot. We didn't have any issues with safety or feeling unsafe though. read more

Hotel Review: Hampton Inn & Suites - Benton Harbor, MI 1 out of 5 stars As a Lifetime Diamond Member, I've stayed at hundreds of Hilton properties, but my recent experience at the Hampton Inn & Suites Benton Harbor was deeply disappointing -- both in service and accommodations. Let's begin with the booking: I reserved a king room, but upon check-in was told bluntly, "We're sold out. That's all I have," and was given a double bed room with no apology, no effort to resolve the situation, and no acknowledgment of my Hilton status. I was placed on the first floor, in a noisy area filled with the sounds of children running above me throughout the night. The property caters heavily to families, making it unsuitable for business travelers seeking a quiet and restful environment. The front desk experience was the most alarming. When I expressed frustration -- calmly -- about being assigned a room I did not book, the front desk agent deflected accountability, stating, "It's not my fault. It's not my problem." When I asked for her name, she refused to give it. She was a very large woman, which I mention only because it was the only identifying detail available, since she declined to introduce herself or wear a visible name tag. Rather than de-escalate or apologize, she said she was "feeling threatened," despite the fact that I had stepped more than 20 feet away to continue the conversation. When I stated that she hadn't even offered an apology, she finally said, "I'm sorry," but it was clearly after the fact and delivered with visible resentment. Her next move? She offered to cancel my reservation -- not as a solution, but as a way to push the problem away. This is not how trained hospitality staff should respond to loyal guests. Beyond the service failure, the property itself is lacking: Mold in the shower No soap or shampoo Stained pillows General cleanliness felt below standard Surrounding area feels unsafe, with homeless activity near the adjacent Home Depot Bottom Line: If you're a business traveler, avoid this hotel. If you value customer service, avoid this hotel. If you want the room type you booked and expect Hilton standards, book elsewhere. The front desk associate clearly lacked the training, composure, and professionalism required to handle even mild guest complaints. Instead of taking ownership or showing empathy, she became defensive and dismissive. That's unacceptable -- especially from a flagship Hilton brand. This was a super nice place to stay! It was tucked away in an area that was surrounded by trees around the sides in the back, making it quite picturesque. You actually had to drive through the entire Home Depot parking lot to get to it. It is either very new or completely refurbished as everything from top to bottom was very modern and clean . The team there was so friendly. They always spoke to us when we were taking our dog out for walks. I mentioned that they had a complementary breakfast, and that I would give information once we tried it. I'm happy to report it was also fantastic. The selection was huge Waymore than the average complementary breakfast. It definitely wasn't just a continental style. There was all kinds of coffees, creamers and teas. There was cold cereal there was incredibly good oatmeal and a nice big pot no little instant packets here. There was all the condiments, almonds, walnuts, cranberries, raisins, brown sugar, etc. there was waffle batter, and waffle irons. There were mini scones & muffins. Bagels and bread, and a very cool rotating toaster. There were juices, milks, yogurts there were biscuits and gravy. There were eggs and sausage. Hey, what are you doing? Even though this is an addendum to my original review I wanted to ensure that I was giving an accurate picture and as I said the first time around, we will definitely stay here again. read more

Bought my parents who are 80 years old a room for NYE for their anniversary. Immediately after booking I text my mom and she states she might have covid so I Immediately cancel reservation not 15 minting after booking it, and the hotel refused to refund both days and charged me $550 for booking for 15 minutes. Beds are uncomfortable, blankets are to small, pillows hurt your neck, wifi is terrible and i found a couple roaches crawling around, and they are completely disorganized they don't need to be running a motel at all. read more

Came here from Chicago on the Amtrak - so had no car. I thought Lyft/Ubers/Cabs would he operating to some extent in the area but apparently that wasn't the case. I was stranded a 12 min drive away from here (in St Joe), called the hotel assuming they'd have some info on taxis or shuttles to get to the hotel and the woman on the phone says "That doesn't really exist here." And I say ohhhhh okay, and she says "So are you coming or not? Because if you don't cancel you'll be charged a fee" ?!?? it was so terrible in the moment because i was panicking and literally stranded, a cancellation fee was the Least of my worries! (Plus it was paid for with HH points anyway) I had to tell her "uhhh i literally do not know.... We'll see." lol. I ended up asking a local restaurant manager to drive me to the hotel. Took a last minute trip to MI over the weekend and this Hampton Inn in Benton Harbor was the perfect pick. It appears to be newly renovated, possibly newly built. I am a HH member and within the Hilton collection have my preferences. Hampton are generally never on the list but this one is doing it right! We got in closer to midnight and check in was quick. A digital key was available to me but I stopped by the front desk to grab my water bottles. Room was very clean, spacious with comfy bedding. A sliding door separates the entry way from the bathroom. Bathroom was of a modern design with LED lit mirror. Water pressure and temperature was fantastic in both the sink faucet and bath faucet/shower. Breakfast was your typical hot, continental including scrambled eggs and make your own waffles, but the staff was very vigilant about restocking and interacting with guests to make sure everyone was accommodated for. My only issue was with the air conditioning unit in the room. We were never able to adjust it to our needs, turning the fan onto cool was heating up the room instead. Overall great stay, convenient location, right off the expressway. Would return if in the area! read more

I travel on the time and have been told I'm a hotel "snob". I am also a Diamond Hiton member and stay in Hilton's all over the country. Pre-pandemic I averaged 120 nights a year. I normally do not stay at Hampton because they have no resturant or bar. This property did not have a resturant or bar (other than breakfast), but the property was wonderful. The cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. They originally gave me a room with 2 queen beds instead of a king. Not a huge deal, but not what I booked. They immediately changed my room and were very nice about it. I felt bad for asking they were so nice. My wife and I are planing on going to Western Michingan this fall and we're going to stay at a B&B. I am going to stay here instead. It is that nice. read more

Absolutely terrible. worst experience I have EVER had. First room they gave us HAD PEOPLE IN IT. We waited for about 10-20 minutes and they gave us a room that was DISGUSTING. There was Fried chicken bones outside the door, food and grease all over the walls, piss all over the toilet, trash on the ground and stained sheets. We left THE SECOND ROOM and then a lady said she would fix it. We came back an hour later and only some big chunks of food were taken care of. Sheets weren't changed, piss still all over the toilet. The same lady who said she would fix it started yelling at us when we came back out to try and either get a new room or a refund. Yelling at us, ignoring us, and she even faked a call to a manager. The floors and rooms were disgusting but not as gross as how that employee treated us today. SEVERELY disappointed and DONT EVER COME HERE!!! read more

This was the most terrible place I ever stayed. I arrive from out of town for a funeral with my 102-year-old grandmother and my newborn baby. I purchased a handicap room two days ahead of time. We're arriving the room is clean as we started to unpack we noticed the bathroom toilet was dirty. The bed is not made. Only the comforter was pulled over. The floors were not vacuum. I complained to management and she was helpful. Later that night we kept fighting nets flying around little did I know there was a rotten orange under the bed I complained more to the general manager. She told me they didn't have any more handicap available units either they could clean our room or we could leave. This is how they treat a handicap woman with 102year old grandmother, a newborn baby and a 70 year old lady. The general manager Ivana is racist and unprofessional. If you're black, I suggest you stay back don't stay here. read more

This is a brand new Hampton and it really shows. The building, inside and out, was clean and the rooms were excellent. We took my dad on a chartered fishing trip for Father's Day and I booked two rooms for our group, both with two queen beds each. I love that they had a microwave and mini fridge in the rooms, and that the room layout was spacious. I do believe the quality of the beds and pillows here were a slight downgrade from some of the Hampton Inns I've stayed at in the past, but I still slept pretty well. The coffee machine in the lobby was broken the second night of my stay so we stopped at a gas station on our way out to get a cup after grabbing breakfast at the hotel's breakfast buffet. (They did have coffee makers in the room but we already loaded up the cars and didn't want to go back upstairs to prepare a cup to go.) Other than that, we had a nice long weekend and we are looking forward to making the trek to this side of the state again next year to catch some more fish! read more

Hotel is nice. Had my car broken into though. Car was ransacked. Was one of four that night. GM didn't even bother to reach out to apologize. Seems like they don't care about customers or their safety. Stay here at your own risk seems to be the motto. Won't ever book here again. 2 Stars because the hotel is new and nice at least. read more
