This hotel was very clean and the staff friendly. The room was spacious for our the people. The tv didn't allow streaming and the wifi was unstable sometimes. The breakfast options were simple and good for a continental breakfast (biscuits and country gravy, eggs, pork sausage and turkey sausage, boiled eggs, yogurt, pancakes, cereal, oatmeal, and warm pastries. Coffee was very good. There is no store in the express hotel but there is a restaurant in the same property that you buy and get food and alcohol beverages. The front desk associates were kind and helpful. The swimming pool was open and available for use. Love the patio area to get some fresh air flowing through the room. read more

After dining at the LakeHouse Restaurant & Bar, I went to the hotel lobby to finish some texts and emails on my phone. I showed the front desk staff my receipt from the restaurant to explain why I was there, but the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude. She interrupted me while I was talking with my kids on my phone and asked me to leave. Later, after the restaurant closed, I approached her again, showed her my receipt, and politely asked if I could finish my text in the lobby. She rudely asked me to leave again, this time in front of other guests. Her behaviour was unprofessional and made me feel unwelcome, even though I had spent money at the restaurant. I also noticed that her attitude seemed to make other guests uncomfortable, despite my efforts to be friendly. While the restaurant itself was decent, the hotel staff's treatment of me was unacceptable. I would not recommend using the hotel lobby unless you are a guest, as the staff clearly does not accommodate restaurant patrons. read more

I was on a long road trip with my boyfriend and we decided that it was getting pretty late so we should just stop somewhere to recharge. When I called the front desk (nearly at midnight) they were very helpful and accommodating. They had rooms available and they didn't mind us coming in after a few hours late into the night. The room was less than $100 on a sunday. We could even see a bit of Lake Michigan through the window in the day time. The room was very clean and taking a shower was like the best thing ever. We got a nice hot breakfast the next day as apart of the amenities. Good times! I was happy we stopped here. The town of St. Joseph was very nice to visit as well. They were displaying ice sculptures and you could walk down to check out the lighthouse. read more

Spent the weekend from 5-10 to 5-12 . Found ants by our microwave and mini fridge . The area looked like it wasn't cleaned in a week . We did a little of our own house keeping considering they seemed under staffed . Our second issue was they knocked on our door at 8:30 on the day we were leaving to advise us of an 11:00 check out waking us up , we felt was un necessary because most people know when they have to check out . Lastly when we went to check out , we told them of the ant issue ( other guests were complaining of the same issue and no maintenance personnel on property ) . While we waited to check out , the front desk mgr called the owner and the owner became very aggressive and confrontational with another guest who had the same complaint and called the police on him . Overall a very bad experience and would not recommend staying at this Holiday inn express . read more

This was literally 5 star experience from beginning to end. We were traveling for my birthday and chose this location being close to the beach. The evening desk lady was so very kind and invited and went the extra mile to make sure we were aware of pertinent info.....and the pool was open until 11pm. Hot tub was hot, pool was comfortable, everyone was so helpful....and the girl who does bfast.....let's take a second here....the place was booked and she made sure breakfast was hot and stocked. Just got back from a 5 day stay here. Our daughter was getting married at Shadowland resort and this hotel was one of the choices for the wedding block of rooms. What a fantastic stay. From check in to check out we were extremely happy. Jake checked us in and he was very helpful. I had 5 reservations in my name and the other guests would be arriving on different days and at different times. He was very efficient at getting the logistics into the hotel system and confirming the info. Very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were all very clean. Bathrooms were clean with no stains or hairs. The furniture was not old and worn. Nice sized refrigerator. Microwave. Single cup Keurig. Decent breakfast in the morning with cinnamon rolls, bacon, sausage patties, cereal, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, and eggs either scrambled or pre formed omelets. Indoor pool with spa. Small fitness room. Meeting rooms. Lots of parking. And a restaurant next door that had limited hours due to staffing issues. Loreli(sp) on the afternoon shift was also extremely helpful. She helped get many guests to the correct rooms and was very pleasant when some changes had to made. The front desk also did a marvelous job of handing out gift bags to the guests who wee coming in for the wedding. This location is right across the street from a bluff that overlooks Lake Michigan. Some guests took beach chairs over and sat drink coffee, read a book, enjoy the breeze, watch the sunset or all of these at once. Some of the suites on the west end of the hotel have balconies overlooking the lake. Only a couple miles from downtown St Joseph. 5 miles from I-94. The only issue we had was with one of the women in charge of servicing the breakfast room. She had a tendency to be very loud and overbearing when it came to guests throwing liquids into the waste baskets. This was high on her no no list and her announcements about wishing guests to not do this was very annoying. I know it may have made her job harder but her delivery needs to be toned down. She was very pleasant otherwise. And she would not keep me from coming back. This is a go to place in my book. read more

Our purpose for our visit to St. Joseph was to attend my sons wedding !! We checked in on Thursday afternoon after driving 3 hours and were met by 2 hostesses, Marianne & Teresa, quite promptly. We had a few laughs upon check in with these fine ladies which made the experience 5 stars for sure!! Great way to treat your guests ladies!! The lobby was clean and neat, full breakfast was also included from 6:30-9:30am. Our room was clean and neat also which included a view of the lake. It was a crisp, clear beautiful October day! The bathroom was clean and cleaned well over night as was the room! This hotel also has a great view of the lake! Great place to stay in the city of St. Joseph! Oh almost forgot... you can bring your ... DISCLAIMER: it must be made of stone!! They have a stone dog in the lobby. Also it was all I could do not to sit on the "merry go round" horse in the lobby but I did sit the car in the lobby!! Just me havin' a little fun!! Hahahaha!!! Stayed here for two nights on our way to Colorado. Holiday Inn Express is clean and taking full precautions for COVID-19. Must wear mask in common public areas. Pool & Fitness closed. Restaurant next door "The Lake House" owned by same, but under different management. Lake Michigan is across the street. Clear view of the sunset. Silver Beach about 2.5 miles down the road, easy access to beach, restaurants, shopping & free parking. This was a lower-priced accommodation option compared to B&B and the hotels right next to shopping. It was very easy & quick for us to get Benton Harbor/Silver Beach. Didn't feel like we were missing out on anything by not staying right in town. read more

My wife and I were passing through on 94 when we decided we needed a break. We happened to stop in St Joseph and were surprised by the hospitality of the whole town. We ate at Silver Beach Pizza, the food was okay but the whole business Model was very impressive. Then it was late so we called Holiday Inn Express based on the availability on Priceline. Demond answered the phone and gave us a lower price than was on Priceline. Not only that, we also offered us a room upgrade with a beautiful view of the lake for no extra charge! Then after showing us the way around, he wished us good night with a great level of hospitality. Props to the management here for having a great ability to train and retain individuals like Demon. Excellent experience! We stayed over Fathers Day weekend. The customer service from the reservations clerk to the house keeping staff was exceptional. Made us feel at home! Even when my son took ALL of the free cookies back to our room! (Sorry!). Rooms were clean and comfortable. Sunset view is one of the best in the area. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay here. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. The room was clean and well maintained and the staff was courteous and professional. They had hot breakfast which broke down like this: Day 1: Veggie egg white omelets and sausage patties: meh Day 2: Scrambled eggs and bacon: awesome Day 3: Veggie egg white omelets and sausage patties: meh Every day, they had biscuits and gravy, fruit, cereal, bagels, muffins, etc. If day 2 breakfast was served every day, it probably would have pushed it to a 5 star review. The pre-made "omelets" and sausage patties were very hospital food-like. They also had high chairs, which was huge for us, having a 10 month old. Seating was very limited, but there was spill-over seating in a few conference-type rooms connected to the lobby, one sharing a window with the pool. The view of the lake is some of the best sunset viewing in St. Joe. Very few room actually have a view (ours didn't), but there are a few picnic tables on the lake side of the road and you can also sit on the patio at the Lake House next door and have a cocktail. If I could give negative stars I would Marianne the manager whom I tried to contact for five days in a row I left my name and number three different days in a row I even sent out an email a couple days after never receiving a response back from management a.k.a. mariannebooking.com told me that they are responsible for giving me a full refund and I believe that they avoided me so that they didn't have to refund me using the excuse that I booked a room on a holiday and because I didn't cancel 24 hours prior I don't get my full refund I think it's very shameful during times like these that I made an honest mistake booking a hotel for hours away from my house and they won't give me a refund they charged my card ruins my holiday they wouldn't call me back they try to avoid me at all costs. I suggest you choose another hotel in my opinion this tarnishes the holiday inn name. read more

I took a impromptu getaway and found this location over looming Lake Michigan. I was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality. every interaction with staff was a joy. The hotel was clean and the housekeeping staff was top notch. On my second day I needed assistance and had to talk to the general Manager Marc LaRoux and I realized why the property was run so well. You could truly tell that he live and breathe hospitality. Demond & Antonio was super helpful. These guys were seriously awesome. I suggest staying here if you are in St. Joesph Michigan. Overall: if you're headed to the Lake Michigan wine trail or just looking for a cozy getaway near the lake, this is a lovely place to stay! We had a king bedroom with a small kitchen and a sofa bed. We had so much space in our room, it felt very comfortable and not crammed at all. The front desk staff was very helpful letting us know about the breakfast hours, hours at the attached lake house restaurant and surrounding restaurants! It was only a 20 minute drive to the wine trail locations, we went to about 4 locations. There's a large 'family room' where many people ate breakfast...and speaking of breakfast..it was SO GREAT. They had a wonderful variety from oatmeal to yogurt to eggs to bacon to bagels to hash browns...you name it! Very well rounded and suitable for people with different diets and tastebuds. read more

Got a call 6 hours before checking in telling us that there was "maintenance " being done (on Labor Day" ) so we have to be moved to another room. I have been coming to St. Joseph for the last 10 years or so for the 4th of just and in recent years have always just driven right by this place on my way to our normal hotel that we always thought was so great. Well, this year the other place priced themselves out of our budget so we looked for "good" alternatives and decided on stopping here. Wow what a find.....we should have been coming here all along. Granted, on a holiday weekend, we didn't get the best deal in the world, but it was still about $75 less per night than our old spot and this was newer, cleaner and overall much better. If you don't mind a short drive rather than walking distance to all the downtown St. Joseph shopping and attractions, this is a perfect place to stay for a nice clean and comfortable hotel. Great breakfast each morning, nice large room with very comfortable bed, pool and lots of other extras. They even had free cookies at the front desk when we checked in. Nice touch......... The website is misleading, it states that all suites have a walk-out to the courtyard or a balcony. We stayed in the "presidential suite" and it had neither. They did offer a 15% off discount but I'd of rather paid full price for the advertised room. Sofa bed was a joke as was the roll away bed we asked to use. Finally ended up buying an air mattress to get some actual sleep. Housekeeping staff were the most helpful and accommodating. View of the lake was spectacular, and the only reason we stayed there. I've stayed at them in four different states now and they have been consistently great! This one has a beautiful location looking out on the lake. Also there is an excellent restaurant literally a few steps away next door, The Lakehouse. It's close to everything: the expressway, gas, and a 24 hour Walgreens. It's a short drive to the downtown area where there are shops and restaurants and of course, Silver Beach. The staff was attentive and friendly at breakfast. We even met the owner before we left and he was very nice. He asked if there was anything they could improve. We had a great stay; definitely will be back! read more

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night in March 2012 during a 3 week trip. I was able to get a room without a reservation during the week - and asked for the AAA discount - but even still, the cost was a little more expensive than I would have liked. Parking was okay and free. But the nearest door to where I parked in the lot was a million miles away from the elevator. The room was nice and the bed comfortable. Unlike a regular Holiday Inn I stayed at the night before (for the same price), breakfast was included at this hotel and was awesome. Of all the breakfast buffets I've seen during my 3 week trip, this one was the best. They had a huge selection of very good items. Wifi was also included and worked fine. If it had been nice weather, the view of the lake from this hotel would be nice. It's right across from the lake and some rooms would have a view (mine didn't, but it was foggy anyway). Overall, good hotel, just don't expect it to be cheap. read more

We rented a room for a "stay-cation". When I walked in the first think I noticed was the humidity was thick and heavy (it was only 20 degrees outside).The gentleman behind the desk were helpful. However, the housekeepers were loud and completely obnoxious. We didn't check in until 3 and there were other housekeepers coming out of the room we were walking into. I called the front desk when I got to our room, due to the room I booked was not the room I had been placed in. The gentleman helping me was obviously frustrated from his computer because he started talking loudly and his tone changed towards his computer from taking to long to process. He wasn't rude to me I just thought it was unprofessional. I will not book a room here again, it was not a pleasant experience. read more

We had a terrible experience with this hotel. My sister in law made reservations with them on behalf of our group, and had to cancel them. She called within the allowed time, and the girl that talked to her told her she would be refunded. It turns out, they didn't even cancel our reservations and then charged us when we "didn't show up." My sister called back and they wouldn't give her the money back, and started swearing at her and calling her names on the phone! This happened multiple times! They handled this situation very unprofessionally and rudely. We had a big group coming and come there every year since we love the actual hotel itself, so you think they would have wanted to treat us right! We just could not believe how rude and unprofessional they were to us! I left a honest Google review for them and tried to be polite and nice about it, and they did not respond with an apology at all and also lied in their response about what had happened. I was very happy with this Holiday Inn Express. The hotel was very clean, it had a nice pool and hot tub that can be seen from the nice little sitting area in the lobby. Hot breakfasts came with the price of the room and the employees were very nice. We were upgraded to a huge lake view suite with a very comfortable king bed, microwave, refrigerator, and couch. My only complaint is the lack of a shuttle to the downtown area which is about 2.4 miles away. I always thought that "express" hotels weren't as nice as regular Holiday Inns...certainly not the case here. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. read more

I made a refundable reservation this morning and made sure I asked agent for REFUNDABLE booking since I wasn't sure if my travel partners would agree with amenities. The reservation was for two nights in August 2018. Within two hours I called back to cancel since my friends wanted a suite instead of a room...I was told I would receive a refund MINUS a 14.99 service fee. I have NEVER been charged a service free for a refundable booking. I feel this is an unethical practice and poor customer service since the agent did not disclose this policy at the time of the booking. We had guests stay here recently for our wedding. Nice rooms but I had to call them to remind them to hand out our wedding welcome bags.. even after the reminder I still had guests tell me they never received one. Yes it's a small gesture but we took a lot of time putting those together and were bummed that we couldn't count on their team to execute correctly. I know this is long over due but I think it needs to be written. I did have a horrible start with this hotel, however after much back and forth we finally got a block there for our wedding (September 2014). The hotel was great after we got everything resolved. It is a beautiful location and our suite overlooked the lake. I was very happy with our stay and the staff here. The guests were all happy with it as well. My only suggestion is to call the hotel directly and not corporate, that is where all the mishaps happened with us. read more
