I wish we could give 6 stars on "flexibility" because Shadowland certainly earned extra credit during our pandemic wedding planning journey! I can't say enough good things about this venue and staff. I wouldn't wish our Covid wedding planning stress on any bride and groom, but I will tell you from personal experience, Shadowland will stop at NOTHING to give you the best wedding reception possible! We were the classic "had everything planned out pre-Covid" story, so the Covid curveball really forced us to revise all our plans. Shadowland worked with the state on what the current guidelines were, and kept us updated with every change, giving us our options and telling us what to expect. Our venue wedding coordinator, Rysa, was so responsive with our questions, and truly made us feel like our wedding day was as important to them as it was to us. Having an August 2020 wedding, we were unfortunately constrained to an outdoor reception, and although it was crushing to not be able to us their beautiful ballroom, I cried happy tears when they informed us they would be putting up tents for us outside so we could still host our reception with them. With so many cancelations and changes, it was a huge relief to know they were still in our corner and not going to give up on us! Not only did they stick with us, but they went above and beyond to make sure it was amazing. One perfect example of their attention to detail was the color-coordinated bracelets they provided for guests to display their social comfort levels at the reception. This was a huge hit during an event where we had many guests of varied preferences. I would have never thought of this, but it made ALL the difference and was one less thing for me to worry about on our wedding day when we were giving out hugs and hellos. I will admit, even though we didn't choose it on purpose, the outdoor "tent on the beach" feel was actually pretty great! The guests loved being able to walk down for sunset pictures, and it was fun dancing under the stars. Fortunately for us, the one thing we did NOT have to change was our food choices because Shadowland provided all the catering. There were so many great meal options available at our tasting that it was actually hard to pick what to serve on our wedding day, and as expected, everything was delicious! I cannot say enough positive things about having our wedding reception at the Shadowland Ballroom. For starters, the staff is FANTASTIC. Nicole and Jasmine made the entire planning process so easy and fun. I didn't have a wedding planner or coordinator, so it was helpful to lean on Jasmine for questions or advice. She was organized, responsive, so sweet, and helpful. Even with my crazy type-A personality I was able to relax on my wedding day knowing Jasmine had everything covered. We had 150 people and the ballroom was a great size for that. We used the patio for cocktail hour, and that was a hit. We had a second bar on the patio for cocktail hour as well. The food was great; we got a lot of compliments and it was so easy to have catering through Shadowland. The ballroom was beautiful. The only thing I didn't love was the chairs at Shadowland, so I went with gold chiavari chairs from www.chiavarichairswedding.com and they were fantastic and really made the room look great. I recommend using their preferred vendor list. It was so nice to have vendors who were familiar with the staff and layout. We used Ben Pancoast photography and photo booth and Music Unlimited for our DJ. They were terrific. We rented the carousel for 1 hour and it was a HIT. Our wedding was 21+ and the adults loved it. We definitely needed the full hour for the 150 guests to get our photos done first. We also loved the Mock Wedding shadowland throws for their confirmed couples. We arrived early for a wedding reception which provided us the opportunity to peruse the vintage photos on the walls. It is a lovely venue with about a 3 ft by 4 ft section of the original ballroom floor. It was built as a huge ballroom and an amusement park next to it. The carousel is still there along with some of the mirrors from the fun house. It is across the street from a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge fountain. If you are not familiar with where they are, good luck driving to it. We took the long flight of stairs down when we walked from the wedding ceremony location. At my age, getting back up the stairs was impossible and someone kindly directed us to a ramp. That made it easier. I don't know if this is one of those venues you just rent the space and bring in everything or if it a package place, so they cook the food. Someone fell down on the job. The tables were set for 8. We were served a basket with 6 bread rolls and there were 3 pats of butter on the table. When we asked for additional rolls, we were told, " We served what we had. " The salad was served "family style " and I was the third person at the table to get the salad. I knew there was not enough for everyone at the table, so I took a half of a cherry tomato and a piece of lettuce hoping I could get more after everyone else had taken theirs. Didn't happen. By the time the entree arrived I was starving. Dessert was wedding cake. Call me old fashioned, but I would have hoped the cake was large enough to serve the 200 people ~ it wasn't. A server told us there would be pizza served later if that helped. Never saw it. It is a lovely location and beautiful venue, but we did not have the best experience. read more

This is a beautiful location. They took care of almost everything. We where told we could come anytime that day to stop off some greenery and name cards, no one was there, no one answered phone? left wondering rest of day when the doors would open. Well not when guests started to arrive. No one could drop gifts off or use restroom before ceremony! the food was terrible! Nothing like the food we tasted when we booked the venue. Disappointed ! staff was nice and they did provide a list of vendors which helped. read more

Shadowland put on a wonderful evening for our wedding! Jasmine did a terrific job in all of the planning/setup and kept the night moving. Shadowland was able to accomodate our meal choices even though the menu changed from when we first sampled the food. Jasmine was also able to plan the entire event remotely since we live in Arizona. My husband and I were married on August 1st and our reception was held at the Shadowland Ballroom. We could not have picked a more perfect venue to celebrate our love for each other. Every detail is taken care of, Cheyenne is seriously your wedding planner for all things reception related. She was so patient through the entire planning process and never made me feel like I was bothering her or asking too many questions (and I asked a LOT of questions) We planned our wedding from the Chicago suburbs and it honestly didn't feel that way as the staff were always accessible to answer any question we may have had or even throw a few ideas our way when we weren't too sure. They even told us when the sun would set so we could get that perfect picture! All of our out of guests are still raving about our beautiful wedding venue and how perfect the location was, especially out out of town guests! We could not be more pleased with the outcome! Also the mock wedding is a must! You get to see everything in action, try all of the delicious food and even sample wine and signature drinks! The food SO GOOD! I might be bias but I have never experienced such delicious wedding food!! Our appetizers and main dishes were perfect!!!!! The signature drinks were a big hit as well! The night of the big event I did not even really speak with Cheyenne as she was making the magic happen behind the scenes. She took care of anything and everything before I even knew it needed to be taken care of: that is every brides dream- I was able to fully and completely enjoy the day! My dad said he sought her out for something in regards to the parking lot and when he told her she was already working on it! Pure perfection Shadowland! Thank you for such a memorable day! We had our wedding reception here on september 7th and I highly recommend this venue for any event! Cheyenne was fabulous and accommodated our every request, answered questions promptly during the planning stages and was a superstar the day before and day of the wedding. She even distilled vodka to create sweet tea vodka for one of our signature cocktails "Terra's Tea." Mixed with lemonade, this cocktail was a hit! And the food was incredible!... we both got a plate of all 4 of our choices- herb crusted sirloin, chicken stuffed with goat cheese, tilapia, and cheese tortellini...and we loved each one of them. Our guests raved about the food as well. We live in Chicago, so we did most of our planning from there, but when I called Cheyenne a few days before we were scheduled to go to St Joe in August for last minute planning, she not only met with us on a busy Saturday wedding day, but let us hang out in the event space and ask her a million questions. It was so helpful to see the space decorated for a wedding before ours and we got so many great ideas!! The weather forecast for the day of our wedding was 90+% chance of rain all day, including the scheduled time of our ceremony, which was to be on Silver Beach. Miraculously, the skies opened up to sunshine during our vows and stayed dry for a few hours.. just enough time for us to get beach photos. It was my dream to be married on the beach so I was so happy it worked out, but I also knew that if tragedy struck, Cheyenne and her staff would have done an excellent job accommodating a last minute switch to a ceremony indoors. Overall, I don't think our wedding could have been any better, mostly because of this venue and the location it sits on. I may be biased, but I think we had the best wedding I've ever been too ;) Thank you Cheyenne, Nicole and Shadowland staff! The people that worked in the carousel area were fantastic as well. We rented the area 30 minutes before our reception started and it was just perfect. We also paid extra for a liquor license for the hallway, and I highly recommend this especially if you are having a photo booth out there. The only thing I would have done differently is rented chairs. I didn't really like their dark chairs from the beginning, and I'm not a big fan of linen wrapped chairs, but I wish we would have rented plastic bottomed white wood-looking chairs... it would have completed the beach look of our reception. However, this definitely did not take away from any fun had at this venue. It was an amazing day and night and we will be visiting this space every year I'm sure! Such wonderful memories made here. I gave it 5 stars before, and if it were possible to give more than 5 stars, I would!! Cheyenne was our coordinator, and I don't know what we would have done without her. I felt like I was e-mailing my best friend & she responded right away every annoying time I e-mailed her! :) Our wedding day was perfect even when we had to change our ceremony plan, due to rain. Cheyenne & her team pulled out the tables, the chair rental people (B&L Rentals) set up the chairs, wiped them down (it was raining when they were unloading), then came back immediately after the ceremony so the tables could be re-set! Everyone pulled together and it didn't feel chaotic at all. It felt very romantic and cozy. We loved it! The bartenders were amazing, very friendly! The wait staff somehow managed to impress everyone with their ability to stay fully stocked with meatballs. Yumm!! The food, not surprisingly, was awesome! The Feta Dip, and the hummus were both flavorful but not overpowering with garlic. The pulled pork is highly recommended & still being talked about by our guests! Don't skip the coleslaw either. The caesar salad was perfect, with the perfect amount of dressing. Need I say more? If you're on the fence about where to celebrate your special day, make your choice now. Once you make your reservation, talk to Carla about getting your 30 minutes on the carousel. You absolutely will not be sorry that you did it! I just had my wedding here on October 13, 2012. Cheyenne and Nicole made our hectic year of wedding planning amazing. As a same-sex couple (the first to get married at Shadowland!!), they were fantastic from the very first email inquiring about the space...I actually have the email from Nicole saved and will cherish it forever (she stated how love is love and they would be as open and accepting to us as any other couple). They gave us the mini-food reception we dreamed of and made it classy- I should state that everyone left with full bellies! We had to move our ceremony into the ballroom because of the monsoon the was happening outside and even though it had always been my dream to get married outside, I wouldn't have it any other way. The lighting from Mod transformed the ballroom into the most romantic setting! We love Nicole and Cheyenne and still consider them friends! I had my wedding reception at Shadowland Ballroom on Nov 17, 2012 and the whole evening was perfect in every way! Cheyenne was our contact and she was professional, relaxed, upbeat, and accomidating in every way. The food alone was WOW. We had a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and goat cheese spinach stuffed chicken and both were so juicy and flavorful. Our signiture cocktails were made to perfection. Many guests complimented how good the staff was and raved about the food! The lighting, temperature, staff all did a stellar job. This is a beautiful venue with lots of possibility for ease of set up! We had both the ceremony and the reception there, and it was an easy transition between them. The food was awesome. We have been to other weddings where the buffet food was just ok but Shadowland is amazing. Everyone complimented us on it. People also loved the signature drinks! Also, we rented the carousel across from the venue and then had tokens for our guests to ride the carousel and that was a huge hit and definitely set our wedding apart with something special and unique. read more

From the time my fiance and I decided to marry on Silver Beach in Saint Joseph, Shadowland was on my very short list of venues to check out. I made the trip from Chicago about a year before our wedding to see three venues, and Shadowland was a clear winner. Close to the beach and incredibly spacious, it offered close proximity to downtown and the beautiful carousel for our younger guests. I began to understand over the next year of planning what an absolutely perfect decision picking Shadowland as our reception venue would turn out to be. Working with Nicole and Cheyenne was an absolute dream, and their gracious professionalism calmed me in my most stressed moments. They became so close and dear to me through the whole process, that I don't know what I would have done without their help. They executed every detail of our reception flawlessly, and I was told by every single guest what an amazing time they had, how friendly and accommodating the servers and bartenders were, and how gorgeous the space was. The chef and the food were incredible, and they were even able to make a dairy free meal for one of my guests the day of the wedding. Renting the carousel, which I thought would be a hit with the children under 12, became a highlight of the wedding, and guests ages 2 to 91 all rode! If you're looking for a breathtaking space, delicious food, a great space for kids, and absolutely impeccable service, please look no further than Shadowland. The Shadowland on Silver Beach was perfect. The staff was so wonderful. Nicole and Cheyenne made the wedding process so easy going. They answered every question and had wonderful ideas to make the day perfect. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone there wanted to make sure our day went smoothly. The service was impeccable. The wait staff was very accommodating and extremely polite. The food was delicious! Every guest commented on how wonderful everything was from the signature drinks and appetizers to the dinner. We loved it! I would recommend this venue to any couple.
