Just a random hotel in durham to stay for the night. I was able to snag an ADA King Room and the place was spacious. Front desk was decent but I was kinda tired checking in so not much was said but smooth check in. Getting into my room was almost flawless. The keycard/ door didnt want to communicate with each other for a while. Breakfast was decent but was a lot better than most places I stayed at. It was warm and had a good selection. read more

Exactly what I would expect from a HIE. Clean rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast. The only issue that I could see (along with other guests) is the staff demanding our license plates before we can get a key. A lot of people have rental vehicles and don't know the plates. Yet, the staff would not give out keys until they had the plate number. It definitely irritated many guests to have to go back outside to get the plate number. read more

Here are what you should expect: 1) the only set of elevator stops working during rush hours so you'll have to carry your suitcases up/down with stairs by yourself and no one will help you!! 2) no one cleans your room unless you make the same request a million times to the front desk!! 3) dirty bed with stains; cheap soaps don't wash; broken microwave; and gross carpet, etc.!! 4) consider yourself lucky if your keycard works after 5 tries!! Stayed here because I was going to a duke game. Affordable price and decent location. The front desk staff I encountered were all nice. They have on-site, free parking. The rooms are nice. Tv worked well. The sheets and comforter are some of the softest I've experienced at a hotel. The soap and hair products are Dove. The breakfast was decent. The pancake machine was broken. The cinnamon rolls were good. The breakfast times are pretty reasonable (doesn't end super early). My three complaints about this place start with the bathroom. The shower handle/faucet thing is seemingly installed backwards. When the shower is turned to the hottest setting its freezing cold. That was annoying to deal with and figure out. The drink and snack selection was very depleted in the lobby and seemingly even more overpriced than normal. Lastly the refrigerator in the room didn't work which was a shame because I had food that needed to be refrigerated. Overall a fine stay. I'd stay here again. read more

Not a bad hotel. I was a bit nervous at first that I had to be buzzed in to get into the door. If you don't have a reservation you don't get in. So I guess that's good for those staying there so I was good with that as well. Rooms clean; no complaints. Ordered takeout. Had to meet the takeout person in the parking lot which was odd but again security. I bought water at bother...whew! Expensive! Suggest buying before you get there. Breakfast consisted of coffee, cereal, Nutrigrain bars, packaged muffins and some fruit. So until Covid is over I don't believe the addedbreakfast is worth the money. read more

Went down for breakfast at 9:30am (it ends at 10am). They were out of pretty much everything - no eggs, no cinnamon rolls, no pancakes, no apple juice, no biscuits, so no food. Breakfast attendant kept saying "5 more minutes" and there would be no more pancakes. After 10 mins and still no food, went to the front desk to seek a remedy (make more food). Clerk and another employee said there was no manager available, they "don't do" business cards and wouldn't give me an email address for one. I always give the property a chance to make things right as they should have that option. The man who said he was name was Caesar was incredibly rude and unhelpful and has no place being in customer service. The bed was comfortable, the room tiny but clean, great shower, but no breakfast choices and incredibly poor customer service make me never return here. read more

I chose this hotel because it had a better rating than the Holiday Inn Express near the airport. It was about $50 more as well. My daughter and I bought tickets to see the Tanya Tucker concert at the Carolina Theater and were excited until we came to this hotel. We were just coming from 3 hours of driving I had to go to Duke for an MRI. Mimi greeted us warmly and genuinely and that was a indication of what lay in store. After we were ensconced comfortable and relaxed I realized I forgot a few things numerous times and each time I engaged Mimi I got that same generous vibe. Suffice it to say she's a sweetheart. We had one issue that arose but sometimes shit just happens. We were on the 1st flr. next to the laundry and there was quite a bit of chatter. Once everything settled down of course it was peaceful. I suppose we could have complained or asked for another room, but why bother. It wasn't like it was planned that way there just weren't enough rooms. Mimi and her kindness blew all that away. So, next day was the procedure and we said goodbye to everyone. I say everyone because Melvin one single sweet elderly man puts all the fare out for breakfast. We had to come again 2 more times and we had 2nd flr. rooms making wholly fulfilling stays. The coffee bar is seemingly always open and there are treats in the main lobby. Upon our 3rd stay the front women were engaging and kind. Genuine helpful and informative. They are both Law Students and we based on their hearts and attitude will do a stellar job. There is always a young guy who I am guessing must be a manager. He's cool as well. Synopsis? Highly recommend this experience. Our first stay it was miserable out. Spent 8 days in this hotel while my wife was at Duke Hospital. All of the staff were so very courteous, friendly and helpful. Of special note is the front desk staff especially Steve. Mr Ball in food service made the start of days very pleasant with the hot breakfast items and caring attitude. The housekeeping staff made sure my room comfortable and clean. Thanks to all of you. Flew in to watch Duke basketball game and stayed one Tuesday night. Booked one double-bed room online via ichotelsgroup website for $94 night. Staff was friendly. Was told at check-in that I had reserved a room with king bed, but was quickly remedied by pleasant staff member I believe is named Gwen. Located right off the highway and easy to find. Room located on fourth (top) floor facing freeway. Did not have any problems with noise while sleeping- and I consider myself a light sleeper. Duke campus was nearby and drove through downtown to eat before the game. Property was probably on the older side as the room did not have a flat-screen tv as in other properties which was fine to me. Also bathroom had a chip near toilet paper holder and a broken tile in the shower ceiling. Hot water seemed to get hotter throughout my shower at night but that can be expected when it's near 20 degrees outside. Enjoyed the free USA Today newspaper. Took advantage of the complimentary breakfast in the morning which was served by a very friendly and professional female staff member. It's not Sunday brunch with omelettes made to order, but the eggs, biscuits and cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven and apple juice were enough for this vegetarian to make it to the next meal. Overall a nice, comfortable stay where the friendly staff more than make up for what others may not consider 'perfect'. Definitely hope to be back for a game next year! read more

The hotel is clean and appears to be newer or recently renovated. It is close to Duke U if you are planning a visit. The staff is extremely polite and friendly. The breakfast area seems much smaller than most Holiday Inn Expresses and I would imagine if they were busy it would be difficult to get a seat and food as the food is kind of all over each other compared to being spread out like other HIEs. My two smaller complaints would be: No vending drink machine was stocked and they were all sold out. So if you wanted a beverage your either drinking tap water or driving somewhere. There was a coffee machine in my room. But no cups. No coffee. No coffee sugar cream etc. I looked everywhere. It just was not there. For a 129 rate these were a few things that I felt were not deserving of a four star. There are a few other items but I have the feeling they know about these and just don't care. read more

I booked this hotel for a one night stay for a quick stop in Durham. The price was reasonable and I figured since I was only staying for one night, I would keep my expectations fairly low. When checking in, the lobby and dining area was less than remarkable. However, the staff at the front desk and throughout the hotel were very welcoming and hospitable - perhaps this was more of a function of Durham, but regardless, it was definitely noted and much appreciated from a tired traveler. The room itself was spacious with the king bed, a small couch, tv stand, and desk area with lamp. The bathroom in particular had a good deal of counter space. While our stay was short, it was enjoyable. People were pleasant, bed was comfortable, and the room was nice and clean. Would totally stay in this hotel again. read more

One night at this Holiday Inn Express . Check-in was uncomplicated and facilitated by friendly, hospitable employee. The room was clean with an uncomplicated color scheme and well appointed with a fridge coffee pot, microwave, big flat screen. However, I was disappointed by the lack of glassware- hate drinking cocktails out of plastic! The HVAC in the room was a single unit that was inadequate to keep the room cool during the daytime and barely adequate at night. With the door shut, the bathroom became miserable very quickly. Also, this hotel was supposed to have HBO but CNN was on the channel that was supposed to be HBO. I called the desk who confirmed hat HBO was supposed to be on channel 62 and he would call the cable company. It didn't get fixed. Good continental breakfast! Overall a pleasant stay. We will probably return when staying overnight in Durham. read more

Do not waste your money staying here. They are remodeling and the place is a mess. We were put in a room by the elevator. Noise like a jackhammering every 50 seconds for 10 seconds. I put up with it for 7 hours. Then reported it. They denied it was happening. Security came up. He said he didn't hear it. Brought him in the room. He finally admitted it was the elevator. Said we should move. It was 10:30 pm. Staff was less than helpful. Denial, denial, denial. Will never stay here again. If you like but loud noises all night...this is the place for you. read more

This year my wife and I are season ticket holders for DPAC musicals / plays and Charlotte Hornets games so we got a Holiday Inn credit card so we can get points towards free and lower priced hotel nights. This was our first time at this Holiday Inn and after one night this will be our home away from home every month when we ride up to Durham to catch a show at the DPAC. I like the location and the rooms are ok but LOTS of heavy smokers in this hotel but especially by the pool. An entire table chose to all light up as soon as they saw me and my kids get in the pool. We had to leave right away because my son complained the smoke was making it hard to breathe. The smokers just laughed. We were up most of the night with migraines and sore eyes. Why do people sit at a pool only to smoke? It's for swimming, not loitering. But there was not a no smoking sign so I guess this is ok according to Holiday Inn. read more

We traveled from Providence to Atlanta over Christmas, and stayed here one night. It was perfect. I'm not a fan of Holiday Inn, but this was one of the nicer ones, although a little pricey, I think. The woman who worked at the front desk was very helpful. The vending machine was out of water, so she gave me several small bottles instead. Great customer service. The room was clean and pleasant, and the hotel was quiet. The breakfast was included and wasn't fantastic but was good enough. The hotel is right off the highway, and there's a Texas Roadhouse next door, where we had dinner. I would definitely recommend staying here for a night on a long trip. read more

Not the best holiday inn I've been to and they were pretty expensive but that's to be expected due to the location. I did like that it was fairly quiet though. They have free breakfast but I didn't see anything that looked very appealing. I stuck with coffee and a banana. The breakfast was off in a tight area and we were bumping people as we tried to get what we wanted. Our room was fairly clean but not that impressive given the price l. My fiancé's favorite thing about this hotel was that they had a in the room. The general manager Grant Hutcheson needs to take lessons in civility. I was sitting just outside the front door of the hotel on the bench with my dog. The dog was barking at people coming and going from the hotel. Not I'm going to attack you bark but a hello bark. The dog was not barking constantly. Most people who were barked at commented to me what a nice dog or they did not say anything. No one expressed fear of the dog either verbally or by walking away from the dog. I was sitting with the dog for the entire 1/2 hour or so. That's when Grant H. showed up. He came storming out the front door of the hotel yelling at me that the dog is barking at everyone and he can't have this going on. I was dumb founded again no one complained about the dog to me or to the hotel staff that I know of. Grant H. expressed to me at how inconsiderate I was to allow my dog to bark at everyone that past by. He told me I had to move, that's when I told him he did not have to be a jerk about it. His response was to yell at me again to move. I told him that I did not want to talk anymore about it and I moved. Grant H. used a tone and body language like he was talking to some vagrant who was unwanted and needed to leave immediately. He certainly did not talk to me as one would talk to a paying customer. When I asked the hotel staff later who this person was they told me and apologized for his behavior. They said it in such a way that this is not the first time they had to apologize for Grant's H. behavior. read more

I visit the Durham area 3-4x a year on business and pleasure, I have stayed here most of the time, and I am pretty pleased with it. The only negatives are the slooooowww elevator (it's only a 4 story building!) and small parking area, and being right next to the on ramp and a busy highway, and they had no flat pillows. Cars racing by at all hours. The pros are- clean, comfortable, free hot breakfast, outdoor pool, and a great staff that is customer focused. I would NOT recommend this hotel. We got there after midnight for 1 nights stay & was still charged the full $100 & were stuck in a smoking room (thats all that was available). I wouldn't be so made about that if the room was actually nice! The bathroom door didn't close at all, the phone didn't work, the room smelled like stale cigarettes & there was crusty stuff on the blanket. The people we were traveling with had to sleep on top of the blanket! Then the front desk said we should have told them & they could have moved us, but we were told at check in that it was the last room! How can they move us if there were no other rooms available?!?
