The bathroom is on the small side, with a shower-in-tub setup I'm not fond of (thought they renovated) and light, barely passable, water pressure. TV reception was a little glitchy on a few channels, but thankfully didn't interfere with the NFL Division Playoff Game I was watching. Three days before I checked in theyadded a new gym, which is a nice... the equipment is great, brand new. It's not very large for a hotel this size, but it wasn't busy when I went, so didn't impact. Finding it was a bit of an adventure, though... no signage! Perhaps that's why it wasn't busy? Ever consider putting a temporary sign on the door? Also, providing towels for wiping down the equipment after use is a must... they didn't think of it. Valet parking was good overall, with car requests handled through an app. The drop off/pickup area is tight, which led to some congestion at times. The complimentary breakfast buffet they offer Bonvoy elite members was ok at their restaurant, Julia, located just off the lobby on the ground level. The hotel was a good location for me as I came for a show at the Florida Theater, which is close by. Warning... this is a NO-CASH hotel... which I find a limiting. Overall, my stay was ok, but should have been much better. With some "attention to detail" they could be providing a much better experience, more of what you expect from a full service Marriott property.

I've always enjoyed staying at Marriott hotels. In fact, many of the literary conventions I attend are held at Marriott properties, and they've become a familiar home away from home for many of us in the horror writing community. I have another convention coming up in Anaheim for WorldCon, where I'll once again be staying at a Marriott. I also stayed at a Marriott in Hawaii over the Christmas holiday. Unfortunately, I did have one unsettling experience toward the end of this stay. I returned to my room at approximately 11:43 a.m. to check out and discovered that all of the clothes I had left in the dresser drawers and closet were gone. Thankfully, General Manager Joyce Johnson stepped in and handled the situation. My clothing was located and returned to me in a plastic bag, and some of my toiletries were retrieved from the trash. After wiping those items down with Lysol wipes, they were fine. Mrs. Johnson was clearly apologetic about what had happened and made an effort to make things right. In addition to returning my belongings, she provided me with a small gift bag containing wine, water, chocolate, and peanuts, as well as points toward my Marriott Bonvoy account. I genuinely appreciated the way she handled the situation. Although having my belongings removed from my room before I had checked out was understandably unsettling, it did not overshadow the rest of my experience. Overall, I had a good stay, and I would stay at this hotel again.

There is a skate park and regular park along the way. The Five Points neighborhood seems nice enough with several bars and restaurants including a sports bar connected to the hotel. The hotel was very clean. Staff were pleasant. I got their cheapest room and was happy with it. It had a king bed, a fold-out couch, a shower, and a kitchen with everything except a stove. My favorite perk of this hotel was they always had carafes of hot coffee and decaf 24/7. Cons: (1) They charged me different rates for the two nights I stayed which I thought was weird and didn't notice at first ($150 and $190). (2) The breakfast sucks--both the food and the experience--there are multiple reviews about it. I would stay here again if another band I like plays at FIVE, I'd just skip the breakfast.

There weren't many people in the hotel, and the restaurant connected to it didn't seem to have options that appeased me, so I just Uber'd some food to me and called it a night. The staff were friendly to me! I typically don't allow cleaners to clean on such short stays, so I can't speak to how the cleaning crew did. My room was equipped with dishes, cleanware, the whole 9! That being said- a friend of mine was a vendor at the Christmas in the South Arts Market & I wanted to support her. Mini Giving Tree is a local organization that makes various art- including ceramic ornaments, to sell and raise money for our local foster kids. Pretty spectacular! She's going to make it a full fledged non-profit very soon. This was her second year doing it and she raised $2200 dollars to buy gift cards for kids. Funny enough- I have a pretty strong policy of not paying to go to markets- I always feel like it's double dipping to charge vendors and charge customers and that less money being spent with a small business. That being said- the event space I saw was a great room. Parking options vary- very limited street parking, all other lots charge a variety of fees. I spent almost $40 between parking and entry. I did find it funny that employees directing people where to go had no idea what event was actually taking place! I asked where to enter to find the market and the guy said- I don't think there is a market today, but they have the Christmas in the South going on- enter at the side door. LOL. I smiled and thanked him and chuckled. I need to pay closer attention to events, but I am really just hoping someday we will have NCECA here in Jax and really give me an excuse to explore the entirety of the center.
