3.5 stars. Better than OK. Large office building feel lobby and renovated rooms. The bedding was very comfortable, had a good view from the top floor. The bathroom is on the small side, with a shower-in-tub setup I'm not fond of (thought they renovated) and light, barely passable, water pressure. TV reception was a little glitchy on a few channels, but thankfully didn't interfere with the NFL Division Playoff Game I was watching. Three days before I checked in theyadded a new gym, which is a nice... the equipment is great, brand new. It's not very large for a hotel this size, but it wasn't busy when I went, so didn't impact. Finding it was a bit of an adventure, though... no signage! Perhaps that's why it wasn't busy? Ever consider putting a temporary sign on the door? Also, providing towels for wiping down the equipment after use is a must... they didn't think of it. Valet parking was good overall, with car requests handled through an app. The drop off/pickup area is tight, which led to some congestion at times. The complimentary breakfast buffet they offer Bonvoy elite members was ok at their restaurant, Julia, located just off the lobby on the ground level. The hotel was a good location for me as I came for a show at the Florida Theater, which is close by. Warning... this is a NO-CASH hotel... which I find a limiting. Overall, my stay was ok, but should have been much better. With some "attention to detail" they could be providing a much better experience, more of what you expect from a full service Marriott property. read more

What a stay! We got one of their renovated river view rooms and it was beautiful and clean. We could see the bridge and the fountain and pool from our window. Very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and ac worked perfectly. Shower was hot and towels were soft. We could watch the fireworks from our view but decided to join all the fun on the roof top pool. The pool is heated btw. Will definitely be back to stay and watch the fireworks again. read more

There is a reason this particular Marriott property gets only 3 stars. The guests tend not to like the place and the staff doesn't particularly care! The front desk people are pleasant enough. The gentleman who delivers room service was friendly too. BUT try calling their phone number at most any time of the day or night and you'll get an irritating recording that should say "press any number for any department and we might answer and then again, we might not!" My "renovated room" smelled like someone had smoked a cigar in it and someone else tried to cover it up with chemical products that only made it worse! I looked on my American Express bill and I was charged an additional $100 AFTER I CHECKED OUT and was already home, with no explanation or a call from the hotel. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, so if you're there for business, GOOD LUCK! They only offer valet parking, and while the guys who take your car and bring it to you are professional and cheerful, their system collapses when they have more than a few cars to retrieve at the same time. I waited nearly 30 minutes for my car. I honestly wouldn't stay here again even though I'm a Marriott Bonvoy Member. I'd stay somewhere else and give up the points! read more

I actually came to the JBar in the downtown Marriott location because an old HS friends came to Jax and it was too late to meet for dinner. One of his buddies recommended the hotel lounge at the Marriott Downtown. Neither of us knew anyplace to hangout after 9pm, yes we're wizened like that. It was a great recommendation. We ordered two appetizers, one alcoholic drink and one sparkling water. The appetizers were really good, I love avocado dip with spinach (makes it a healthy app.) and tortillas. The humus app came with veggies to dip so I think we did good. The bar lounge closes at 11pm and time flew! They didn't kick us out just ensured they could take the dishes. We were able to hangout another hour before we realized how late it was and headed to our respective homes. We were there a little over 2.5hrs and it only cost $10 for parking. I will definitely recommend the JBar to my friends as I had no clue it was there. read more

The lobby is a bit dated, but the room was nice! The hotel only provides valet parking, but if you're staying on the weekend street parking is free! The room was smaller, the bed was firmer yet comfortable. I requested extra towels which arrived quickly. It's conveniently located ~5 minute drive to 5 Points. They offer complimentary coffee in the lobby each morning. I wish the hotel had some sort of cafe or coffee shop. I'd stay here again. read more

This is such a strange Marriott property! It might be downtown, but this area has seen better days. This is not a walkable area, despite it being 'downtown.' The entrance is actually in the back, with a very small 'driveway' that is mostly for valet parking- it is very confusing because it doesn't look like the front entrance. My taxi accidentally parked in the neighboring paid parking lot because he thought it was the only parking option for the hotel! On the opposite side of the building, there is a severe lack of signage. I got dropped off on that side another time - which seems more comfortable for cars- but the doors ended up being locked. Some guy inside opened them for me - he was just a regular guest who had walked into this other part of the building to talk on his cell phone. The interior lobby and sitting areas and, well, everything inside is austere and severely outdated. The front desk managed to check me in without imparting any practical info - like, what are the hotel amenities? is there a pool or a gym? no clue. They did mention the time of breakfast, but breakfast is not free with the room, so I did not even try. They also did not say that the elevators required a swipe with the room key to get to the right floor. My room was also not updated or modern, but the shower worked, the bed was comfortable, and the tv at least was modern and updated. It was not a visually appealing room in any way. read more

The hotel by appearance seemed grand. However, upon entering my room it was clear that there was not a lot of care or time to invest in making the beds. Normally I do not have bad experiences in a Marriott hotel however, I hen you are paying $288/night, the expectations are higher. The restaurant must be understaffed as it took 8 minutes to sit me( there was hardly anyone in the restaurant) and when I was seated , the table was not set up. Another 10 minutes and I finally was asked by my server what I wanted to order. Not sure if this was an off day or what but, I will add comments upon check out. read more

So let me start by saying downtown Jacksonville looks like a zombie apocalypse just hit and the zombies won. Dead.. everything is closed up and not a soul around on the weekend. The hotel.. is old. You can tell it might have been a great hotel at one point maybe 30 years ago, marble entrance, wide open spaces, restaurants and coffee shops, and an abandoned concierge stand. But now, it's just empty and the entire place is under construction all day long. None of the top floors are open so they stick you on a lower floor. My "river view" room I paid for, looks out on to the roof. The room is old and tired and the bed feels like it sinks and slants at the head. Marriott should close this location. My experience at the Marriott was excellent, noting a few issues that they should be able to resolve. The property itself is in an excellent location, across the street from the performing arts center, the year all of the banking/corporate center, and close to plenty of restaurants. Some rooms have a view of the waterfront, during our visit much of the waterfront is under reconstruction. The pool area is spacious and offers a wonderful view of downtown, and the newly renovated rooms are spacious, modern and clean with all the amenities you could want, and the shower was very good. There were plenty of outlets, an extra seat, and plenty of desk space for those who maybe working. The staff is friendly, though no specific stand out. Valet parking is available, and there are plenty of lots nearby at lesser prices if you prefer to park your own car. Small things to address include The fact that on our one-day stay, the tissues ran out (when we checked in there were three tissues left in the box), The body wash ran out, and the hair conditioner ran out - it was just two of us, so it's unusual that everything was at its end. The TV was odd - there was no sleep timer set, but every 15 minutes or so, the TV would turn itself off. Perhaps it was just our TV unit, or maybe there's a setting. Finally, the Wi-Fi quality was so weak that it was just unusable. We were able to use our phones avoiding the Wi-Fi altogether. Overall, there's nothing that would prevent me from staying at this hotel again - I just wouldn't go out of my way to stay there. We've stayed at other hotels in downtown Jacksonville and had better experiences. If you are a Marriott Bonvoy remember, if you're visiting the performing arts center, or your doing business with one of the local businesses, this would be a fine place to spend a night or two. read more

We stayed here for a JAX game & NYE. Pros: good blackout curtains, large flat screen TV (w/ streaming options), good water pressure, housekeeping was great, the hotel hosted a rooftop viewing of the fireworks & staff was friendly (shoutout to Tony for arranging transportation for us to & from the game) Cons: the AC does not cool the room properly, the pillows are flat, the mattress is worn out, the bathroom is extremely outdated (although it was clean, the appearance made it feel dirty), there is no microwave in the room, walls are very thin so you can hear practically everything happening around you read more

Old shabby building. Although currently being renovated, new rooms still smell of paint fumes and drywall dust. Building orientation is strange, and so the rooms with the "river view" are not worth the extra cost. The only redeeming qualities are the helpful and polite hotel and valet staff. read more

October 15-22, 2024 - I stayed for a week. I can understand why some are confused about the entrance location as the address is Water Street. But, even at night it was easy see that the building is sideways on the lot AND both google maps and WAZE state where to correctly turn (driveway to the entrance/check in/valet location). There is a lot within a 3/4 mile walk! The sunset views from the Acosta bridge are great. Upon arrival I was quickly greeted and I asked about parking options. Valet is $33/day (includes in/out privileges). The public lot (not covered) across the entrance is $20/day ($30 if an event is nearby) with no in/out exceptions (leave and it can easily cost another $20). Plan accordingly! Check went smoothly. The lobby, hallways, and larger open areas were quite chilly. The room key is needed for the elevator and pool/gym too. The 14th floor room had a view of the river, a blue bridge, and surrounding buildings, some of which are lit up at night. The curtains easily blocked all of it out when it was time to turn in for the night. When used the bathroom sink leaked onto the counter. The shower pipe that meets the shower head was loose. The bed was soft (I prefer very firm). There was a small safe, coffee maker, and a refrigerator, but no microwave. The room was quiet. Maybe housekeeping does not inform maintenance of issues, so I plan on mentioning the room issues later this morning at check out, hopefully it will be addressed. In general, some updating is needed. Sitting by the pool was relaxing, no one else was ever there. Everyone I interacted with was pleasant, helpful, and some were fairly knowledgeable about the local area. FWIW, a few years ago this Marriott was the Omni. I would stay again. This review does not take the attached restaurant into account, I reviewed it separately. read more

Stayed here as it was within walking distance to the venue for Jill Scott (Who is Jill Scott) concert. Lobby decorated nicely, staff very pleasant and greeted us immediately upon walking in. I needed some guidance on the parking, the young lady at the desk was very pleasant and patient in explaining the process to me and where I could self park. Our room was clean and spacious. Walking through the hall ways and on the elevator was clean. Pleasant smell all the way through. After the concert we sat in the bar area, lots of people were there. Nice comfy seats to sit back and relax in. Only downside was the area you drive up to in order to go in and check-in. This area is VERY tight. It is also where you pull up for valet parking. Not much room to maneuver so you definitely need to be a good driver and not a nervous one. But outside of that, great stay. read more

TLDR: I stayed at this hotel for Florida Georgia weekend football weekend. All in all, the property is mediocre and dated; the staff was great although the restaurant team drags down otherwise great staff at the front desk and housekeeping. Amenities leave much to be desired. I would stay at other Marriott properties for the price or even a different brand. I preferred the Hyatt a few blocks over that I stayed in previously. AMBIANCE // The hotel is older and needs to be renovated. As you pull up to the valet area it's definitely a tight area for cars and loading and unloading bags. Definitely can be a bit of a mess during peek arrival, departure and when people are headed to the game. The lobby, like most of the hotel was dated and small although if you head to the left and around the corner from the bar restaurant in the lobby the property does open up dramatically. That area should be where the front desk is. The room was fine. Nothing exciting. As someone who does a lot of back and forth to the east coast so I greatly appreciate blackout curtains that work. These did. Not to be repetitive but the bathroom was older and the tub knobs showed their age as well. I was on the 16th floor next to some of the suites and everything was fairly quiet. This hotel had a pool and gym. The pool has nice views of the iconic bridge in Jacksonville and can be accessed from the 4th floor. The gym is small. The only thing that keeps it from being claustrophobic is the mirrors. I'd actually recommend they pull some equipment out to make it feel bigger. SERVICE // the front desk staff was fantastic! I arrived after midnight and they were very welcoming. The day crew was great as well and helped me make some changes during my stay. I ate at the bar twice during my stay and the team there was 50/50. Once I got a great drink. The other time I got warm white wine. Go figure. The housekeeping staff was great the entire weekend. FOOD & BEVERAGE // As mentioned, I stopped in at the bar twice. The food was ok, very small portions and a bit over priced in my opinion. The key lime pie slice was tiny and my appetizer of southwestern egg rolls came with two, definitely not created to share. I would eat offsite. read more

Stayed here during a church conference Sept 22-25, 2024. I didn't read the reviews ahead of going because it was the preferred hotel. Very clean on the outside, valet parking, bellman was on point. Brianne at the front desk was very helpful and made a last minute adjustment on the room with no problems. Everyone was very pleasant with smiles on their faces and definitely courteous. The elevators, hallways and rooms were clean. I loved having an ice machine close to by. Small refrigerator with no freezer in the room, and microwave, I was told was on the 9th floor I believe. I did try the restaurant, it was okay, nothing to scream about, however, the selections were limited. The restaurant closes at 10pm, however at 8pm, it was empty and they struggled to seat a party of 1, and keep trying to insist I sit i. The bar area (which is small also). They eventually were able to seat me in the restaurant. My servers were great and provided excellent customer service. Let me correct and say the options were not limited for everyone, just limited for a vegan or vegetarian. My biggest complaint is the restaurant manager not being able to seat pastors and their wives in the restaurant but kept insisting to sit them in the bar area. As I say there, there were plenty of parties of four or more who wanted to dine, but the only option was the bar area. Many older people do not sitting in high dining chairs or low seats. My top complaint is the restaurant manager who handles plates, food and assists in the kitchen, and didn't wash his hands before exiting the restroom, especially after visiting the toilet stall. That just killed it for me. Maybe more training or oversight is needed. read more

For $600 for two nights I find it so ridiculous that they charge you $36 a night to park on the property, breakfast is $15-25 per person, they charge for internet, and they put us in a room where it's construction above us from 9am-6pm daily. We will NEVER stay at this place again! I'm willing to bet a motel 6 would've been a more enjoyable stay, even with their roach population. read more

Three issues 1) carpet needed to be replaced. Holes in carpet 2) took over an an hour to get carpet out of valet. 3) This actually happened after decided to checkout of hotel due to valet but was worse than valet issue. The bellman refused to allow us to load items into cart. We were staying for two weeks so we had a lot of stuff. He was extremely rude to my wife about it and raised his voice at me saying that this Marriott is independently owned and they have their own rules. He then yelled at the head of house keeping. He was out of control. Marriott has really lowered their standards to allow this property to use their name. read more

I don't give two-star reviews often but I did not enjoy my stay and was glad to leave. I am a frequent Marriott traveler (Marriott Gold member) so have seen many of their properties. This hotel has great potential but has been left to fall apart. WHAT I LIKED - Grand entry way - Nice lounge area - Beautiful restaurant and bar area in large open area with sky high ceilings WHAT I DID NOT LIKE - All elevators smelled strongly like URINE. Yes, you read that correctly. It was enough to take away your appetite and make you feel queasy. I have no idea what caused the smell but if I were manager, eradicating the horrific smell would be my top priority. - TV remote did not work. It would turn TV on/off but most buttons did not function. - Shower controls were odd (non standard) and did not enable easy selection of water temp. You could select hot or dangerous scalding hot shower - your choice. Temp wasn't steady either. After finally selecting tolerable temp, it would get too hot again. These are not safe. - Parking: they only offer valet parking at $25/day. Didn't provide accurate information about self parking. Didn't divulge there is free weekend parking on street on side of hotel block (which luckily neighboring lot nicely informed us as they charged $20 every time you entered...not just daily). - Downtown location. Neighborhood was a little rough with some run-down buildings. There was a lot of homeless in the area. read more

Really impressed with staff- no hassles. I got in super early and wanted to see if they could hold my suitcase for me while I killed time before room ready. They just simply gave me my key- at 9am. Then when I went to check out at 5:30 am a few days later I casually was laughing about how my flight was leaving as we were speaking and wish me luck getting home without much hassle. They handed me back my room key and said if I need to come back and wait it out, I can have room till 4. So flipping nice. Safe, clean, easy. Town is very dead though- which was fun for riding a scooter around I suppose. read more

There were no signs at the hotel and the front desk person did not even apologized for inconvenience. Very disappointing. read more

I was so sad and disappointed at this Marriot property. The odors were covered with perfumes. The elevators were laden with "air fresheners" (I could not breath and was choking on it.) The doors are beaten. The housekeeping is questionable--when I arrived, there was a razor cover behind the faucet. I had shot unpacked. The plumbing was loud and did not work. The toilet paper roller would not reattach to the holder as it was stretched. The desk was sticky with something that I just put a towel over . I was not letting anyone in that room as the hotel broke trust by putting a member in that room. I got sick. I do not get sick. I am praying this property is on the demo list because it is not remotely the Marriot standard. Very sad. read more

Customer service personnel that we have interacted with have been amazing. So kind and quick. Our room, however, has had one thing after the other. First, the mirror in the bathroom doesn't have working lights, the hairdryer didn't work. The mini fridge is also not working. The A/C fan would not turn on (turning it colder or warmer) having left the room for hours and the temp has not changed. There is a sticky spot on the floor, there are dark hairs all over the white comforter that we noticed immediately upon entering the room. I'm blonde and my husband is bald so it's not ours. One thing that really grossed us out is the amount of dirt caked onto both sides of the TV remote. To add insult to injury, we also could not find anywhere to buy bottled water in the building. For the amount of money especially I would have really expected some of these basic amenities. read more

Physically the hotel is OK. The room was large and looked good. Management is horrible and that fact is reflected in the service. Some specifics. 1. When I booked this, 2 months in advance, I requested a roll in shower. We were given a room with a bath tub and NO grab bars. I inquired at the front desk and was moved to a room with a roll in shower. That almost made it worse because it indicated that one was available and they failed to accommodate me initially. 2. You must use your room key in the elevator to access upper floors in this hotel. We were not informed of this when we checked in. 3. We decided to stay in the first night and eat in the hotel restaurant. I booked a reservation online and received an email confirming the reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were informed that they were not taking reservations that night and that we could eat in the bar area. (No good seating!). . The "manager" I spoke with pointed at an empty stand were the reservation compute would normally sit as "proof that they were not taking reservations". 4. My wife used all the creamers in the room with one cup of coffee the first morning. When the room made up late in the afternoon, that area was ignored and not replenished. I know that they plan to update the building, but they really need a new GM. read more

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night with my family while on vacation. 3 Expensive adult bikes were stolen off my car which was parked with the Marriott Valet for the night. I specifically asked about the safety of the bikes overnight. Marriott will not respond to my calls and will not provide any information about the Valet company (they contract their valet/parking services through a 3rd party) .
