The loft was beautiful and contemporary while still maintaining the genre of the era. The attentional to details by the innkeepers was phenomenal. The Cartier Mansion itself was exquisite, and the woodwork in the mansion was beautiful. Finally, the breakfast that we were served was simply divine, meeting the standards of this Foodie. Highly recommend this property for a B&B stay!

We were shocked and delighted to discover that the best Historical Bed and Breakfast in the nation was right here in Michigan!! So we read up on the Cartier Mansion and decided to make that our place to celebrate. Let me tell you, the narrative on the Cartier Mansion website paled in comparison to the actual facility and experience. There is no possible way to describe in words how breathtaking the Mansion is in real life. Not only that, but the cuisine ( which we later learned was created and prepared by the head chiefs who spent 6 weeks in Europe learning the best international dishes to serve in order to start your day feeling pampered with amazing endorphins from the meal !!). Jenna and Chris ( the owners) greeted us personally and gave us a thorough tour with the historical perspective. Every amenity that we could've imagined was thoughtfully provided plus many that we couldn't even have thought we needed, but completely enjoyed. Not only was the facility something that FAR exceeded our expectations, the recommendations for meals, shopping and activities were spot on. If there was a way to rate Cartier Mansion and it's owners anything above the top level, I'd double it. Thank you Jenna and Chris for the best experience..... it was far above our dreams and expectations :) Wendy and Gail

Believe me, we will be back for a third stay! Melanie, the owner, is such an amazing host. She goes out of her way to make you feel special. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, you will feel like royalty. When we first arrived, she presented us with warm cookies, a beverage of choice, and a small jar of local homemade jam. She then showed us around the place and walked us to our room. Our room was very clean and there were snacks in there also. Although the rooms aren't huge there is plenty of space for sleeping and each room has it's own bathroom and shower. But by far, it's the breakfast and all day sweet treats that please people and bring them back. For breakfast, Melonie makes egg dishes, potatoes, bacon, sausage, and many sweet dishes. She also has a variety of fruit, juices, coffee, and tea available. She takes special requests and is sure to meet any food allergies/tolerances. Melanie also bakes throughout the day. While we were there she provided us with fudge, cookies, dessert bars, lemon squares, cheesecake, and more. There is also a variety of ice cream flavors available in the fridge - serve yourself. To top it off, she has a small refrigerator full of beverages available at all times and she won't want you to leave empty handed. When we checked out, she said be sure to grab a beverage to go! I really don't know how Melanie, Chuck, and Chris manage the place and make all the scrumptious food. On top of that they renovate and keep up their beautiful flower gardens. Check out my photos. If you are anxious about the idea of a bed and breakfast, this is the place for you!! There are many seating areas for eating and you do not have to make small talk with strangers - unless you want to. You pick your time for breakfast and Melanie makes sure everything is ready then. Not only that but she keeps your coffee full with a smile. Thanks for everything, Melanie, Chuck, and Chris. We will be back!

Jan was very accommodating with my vegan lifestyle and made me a delicious breakfast. The rooms are all decorated different, with lots of original and traditional Victorian decor. I was hired to DJ a wedding at the Stearns. But given that the area didn't have a lot of choices for quality lodging, I accepted my fate and booked a room for the night. I was impressed with the history of the hotel. It's been around since the 1800s and most of the original wood and architecture is in tact. Talk with the front desk and have them tell you the story of this Stearns fella who built the place. Pretty rich history here. I didn't interact much with the staff except for the front desk folks. They were very friendly and knew a ton about the area and the hotel. I was there a bit earlier than normal checking because of my role with the wedding, so my room wasn't ready that early; however, they were super willing to get it ready for me early. We just had to wait on the precious guest to check out. So that was cool. It was a reasonably priced and very clean room. Pretty spacious for a queen bed, mini fridge, and microwave. The hotel is within walking distance to everything Ludington has to offer and sits across the street from a historical building with a clock tower remnant of Back to the Future. My favorite part of this hotel, though, was the tiki bar located downstairs and away from the rooms. It felt like everybody in town was there. The crowd was great, the drinks were reasonable, and the music was my cup of tea. Remember, this is a picky DJ who's seen his share of parties. Thank you Stearns for a comfortable stay, an amazing reception venue, and an exciting after party!

BUT the paint is chipping, I can whisper and the neighbors hear next door, the rooms are overwhelmingly small. I feel like an gorilla in such a tiny spot. I think there needs to be free breakfast for the prices they charge especially in a downtown area. I think in a downtown area with many choices for hotels, motels, inns, b&b's this could be better and I hope it can remain respectful to the old but revamp it a little bit

When we asked to move rooms, we were given a tiny apple cider container to "catch" the fruitflies and told we can't move because we'd used the room. We were also told the flies were bad in general. If they knew though, I'm not sure why they didn't give a warning up front. It definitely hadn't been dusted in a while with dust caked on the lampshades. The bathroom light only half worked - but would flip on if you hit the wall next to it. The bedspreads looked dirty with at least one pillowcase having what appeared to be a blood stain. The bathroom had small spots on the ceiling in multiple places that was not apparent if they were tiny bugs or dirt... Honestly, we questioned whether they had bedbugs b/c there were bites on our legs after the first night of sleeping. We had stayed here before and don't remember these types of issues. We're not opposed to old properties, but it clearly hasn't been kept up and it felt really unclean. Honestly, was surprised to see so many recent positive reviews.
