At long last I'm now officially living in Orange County again! Ironically, my new job calls for me to travel on business to the Bay Area several times a month, I immediately found myself in need of a "home-away-from-home". I shopped around and settled on this Hampton Inn. The prices compared to a lot of other hotels in Silicon Valley are pretty good for the location and the level of accommodation. This property is just two blocks from Downtown Mountain View's Castro Street, and really close to all the major freeways. Parking at the hotel is free and plentiful enough that you can always find a spot, even when the hotel is full. Checking in (which I'm now doing quite a lot), the staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable, with flat-screen TVs that have HDMI input ports - it's nice to be able to watch the things I bring along on my Android to watch when I need some down time. Tip: When checking in, if you'd prefer a quieter room, ask for something on a higher floor away from the elevators In the mornings Hampton provides their typical free breakfast: waffles, eggs, cereals, fruit, etc. In the evening, there are dozens of restaurants on Casto Street to choose from, and all are within walking distance. Get in your car and drive for a few minutes and the choice increases geometrically - I don't think I'm going to run out of new restaurant venues to try and then Yelp about ;-) Bottom Line: This is a reasonably priced, serviceable hotel for business travels. For starters, we're on vacation. I did the online check in and got my room and mobile key. Which was not easy. Then when we got there I could not use the mobile key, and they wouldn't let me in without several identity verification steps. Then the lady at the front desk was rude and acted like us being there was an inconvenience to her and said we haven't checked in yet, even though I called several times that day to verify check in. After that, I asked if we could use a different card and she said no it doesn't work like that. Mind you, I've worked at a Hilton in East Texas...yes, it does work that way. Then after she said we might not have availability and the rooms were over $100, I said no mam the room is $77 and we checked into room 211. Then to verify, she told me the same thing I just told her. We went to our room and it was decent. Our lamp didn't work at all and there was only one towel so we had to get two more towels. Room is clean though. At check out.... well around 10:40 they started calling our room to check us out. I said we requested late check out and the lady from last night said it was okay and to just ask housekeeping to do your room last. Which was nice. Well they started calling and I told the lady what the lady last night said about our check out and she rudely stated that there is no late check out and we needed to leave immediately. And I said okay give us 10 minutes and we will be down, and then she raised her voice and said check out is at 11! It is now 11:15 and you need to leave. Then I stated that we've been harassed since we got here and she said "I'm not going to take this hostility from you" so I hung up on her and we finished packing and left. We will never be back. They made everything miserable. I am 6 months pregnant with blood pressure problems and I didn't deserve to be treated this way. We came to experience California, the people and the culture and we get harassed and rushed out. I've managed a hotel and this is not how you treat people. read more

Very bad hotel staff. They charged me water without telling me it is not complimentary. The front desk insisted that she told me the water is not free when I asked for it. But I never got the message. I got the water for free when I checked in. The hotel staff is very tough and not responsive. Bad customer service. read more

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to DT Mountain View. The complimentary breakfast was ok, with a good selection available. The room was very comfortable, with a good, strong wi-fi signal. The room and bed were large. Mostly the room was quiet. I would stay there again. read more

They put the heaters under the window, so there was a 4' gap in the blackout curtains with a streetlight shining through at the pillows. I complained and they reassigned me to a room with a 6' gap in the curtains next to the sidewalk, but at least there's no streetlight so I might get some sleep. read more

This hotel was everything I was hoping for. The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean, updated, well maintained and smells nice (always a plus). I had a very late check in time. I had called ahead to let them know and they already had my key out waiting for me when I arrived- the man at the desk already knew who I was! The beds are amazing. My window opened so I was able to enjoy a nice California breeze. The location was great for me- very close to where I needed to be for work and also just down from an adorable little strip of restaurants and boutique shops. SJC airport is only about 15 or 20 minutes away. The complimentary breakfast served in the lobby area from 6 - 10ish was better than I expected. Cereals, yogurts, fruits, breads, danish, muffins, great coffee! They even back little brown bags with an assortment for people who need to grab some quick food and go. read more

This Hampton Inn looks very new and extremely clean and well maintained. The floors look like they are scrubbed and polished daily, the windows are clean and gleaming, and the furniture in the breakfast room is immaculate. Our room had new furniture, a new and spotless bathroom, and very comfortable beds and pillows. The staff is courteous and prompt. We loved its location. It's a short walk to the cafes, book stores, restaurants and bakeries on upper Castro Street. Our favorite thing was getting coffee and lunch at the Olympus Cafe. We sat outside at lovely tables and watched the trains come and go at the Mountain View station. So if you want walking access to the Caltrain, the Hampton is the best place to stay. Books Inc., a top-notch independent book store, is just a block away from the station. Across the street is the Crepevine restaurant and bakery with fantastic pastries. And Eureka! is in this neighborhood - it's a very popular and crowded restaurant with great food. read more

Middle of the road hotel located close to downtown Mountain View. Perfect place tj stay for a concert at Shoreline. My husband and I checked in last Saturday and the desk staff was super friendly. But after hauling all of our stuff up to the second floor, we found that the room was dirty... Dirty masks on the floor, a unmade bed, dirty dishes. It was pretty gross, and actually that had never happened to my husband or at a hotel before! We went back down to the front desk and let them know, and it took a LONG time to get us a clean room. Eventually we settled in, and ultimately it was a nice room and a great place to stay. The next morning though my poor husband rushed down to catch the end of the complementary breakfast, and was told it was over right at the cut-off time. I thought that was kind of a bummer to be honest...even if the hot food was gone, it would've been good customer service to offer him some fruit or yogurt, as you know that wasn't out. Kind of weird to be like nope, this is the cut off! Then he asked for two waters and was charged for them. Just strange to see easy opportunities for good service missed like that. Not the end of the world, but definitely a little disappointing. read more

I travel a lot. Getting to see rooms in various parts of the world has given me a pretty good idea of value, what to expect, features, etc.. My wife and I came down from the north bay for work. When we booked, my wife mentioned this place books up fast, so we had to book our room a few weeks in advance. I had never been here, but I know they just remodeled. They called us before coming down to confirm our reservation. The person on the phone was super friendly and welcoming. When we drove down, I was happy to see the location was right off the highway so we didn't have to look too hard to find it. I was also happy to see this location had a freshly paved parking lot with plenty of spots near the door. And was walking distance from downtown Mountain View. We have a baby, so it was nice strolling down to Castro street for dinner. When we opened the door to the room, the first thing I said was, "holy crap, this room is big!" It wasn't your usual cramped doorway with a bathroom door and closet all within arms reach of walking in. We had to walk around a corner (where there was a big window) and saw the spacious room with high ceilings. We had room to set up our pack n' play, feeding chair station, laptop area, diaper changing area and store our clothes. Everything had a place and was neatly organized. It didn't feel cramped. My wife said, "see, this is why this place books up fast" and she was right. In the morning I went to go grab a piece of fruit from the (included) breakfast, expecting to see a usual crappy layout of Eggo waffles, cereal, coffee and some creamers. I thought we'd go out and get some real breakfast. Instead, we ended up staying here and being satisfied with the offering. There were 2 kinds of omelets, french toast, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal and the usual beverages. I'm not saying it was a 5-star breakfast, but it was above average for being included. The best part is it was clean. Everything was clean and organized. Other features such as wifi, friendly staff, etc. were all great. Overall I'd say my expectations were met or exceeded in all the areas that are important for a hotel stay at this price. We're planning on coming once a month for the rest of the year and will be staying here. Thanks for a great stay! read more

This is my second stay here during a vacation to visit friends and be close to the cal train into the city. A couple of notes: Pros: HUGE room. This room is the size of a suite, BUT Cons: where is the furniture? This room should have at least two easy chairs, at least one ottoman, or better yet a small sofa. There are literally only two drawers for clothes and a tiny closet. Tons of wasted space. Not a good design. I know that this hotel is used mainly for business travelers, but please consider those here for leisure too. We are on a two week trip and have no place to keep our stuff! Also, they spent money on updating the decor but the bathroom fixtures are straight out of 1975. Please update those too. That said, the rest of the remodel looks great since I was here last. I come to the area for business several times a year. I've stayed here numerous times. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The rooms are decent size and clean. Breakfast is day standard Hampton breakfast. It's decent food and varies each day. Each day they have breads, muffins, fruit, and yogurt. The hot food varies each day, but they always have some type of eggs. The only thing I wish Hampton would do with their breakfast is get a different source for their gravy--it is really really bad. Tip: If you stay here and have a car there is parking under the hotel. There are two elevators, so you can park closest to the one that is closest to your room. Given the number of people that part outside in the undcovered spaces in the back of the hotel, I suspect most people don't realize there's better parking under the hotel than in the back. Their rates are usually more competive than many other places in the area. read more

I stayed in this hotel for about 7 months last year and it was one of the most underrated places I've been. Usually, Hampton Inns have a mediocre reputation with minimal service to the guests. Firstly, this hotel was recently overhauled and renovated with very modern furnishings. All of the beds, desks, TVs, and other furniture were classy and clean. Furthermore, it was nice having the microwave/fridge in the room in addition to free breakfast & dinner in the lobby. Finally, the staff at the Hampton Inn was incredible and always helped to meet my needs however crazy they may have been. read more

I stayed here for a business trip and I must say, I was impressed. The price is great. My room was spacious, clean and as expected for a Hampton Inn. I checked the bed for bed bugs--there were none to be found. They had complimentary wifi. My only complaint was the bathroom. During my stay, they were in the process of remodeling, and when I tried to take a shower, brown water came out of the shower faucet. Upon alerting the staff, they informed me that they had shut off the water for a short period and just turned it back on-which is why it's discolored. Also, I pointed out that the tub was dirty from the dirty water. The staff fixed the water problem, and cleaned the tub for me instantly. I'm very particular about cleanliness at hotels and the shower situation bothered me a great deal. However, I was pleased with the reaction time, and immediate turn around on fixing the issue. My room included a continental breakfast, which was set up in one of their dining rooms. The breakfast was a buffet including boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, yoghurt, bagels and cream cheese, coffee, tea among other things. The selection was nice. At checkout, I was given a discount to my room and apologies as well. Overall, the experience was positive. read more

Stayed here for two nights for an interview in the area. Hotel was clean, rooms were reasonably spacious, ample parking in our experience and the service from the front desk was excellent morning, noon and night. Why one star? Because someone screwed up the installation of the security bolt on the door in room 311 and it no longer works. The 'stud' on the door looks like it was not installed straight, and the 'ball' probably didn't line up with the latch correctly. Arrived Saturday to find the front desk empty and dark. Lone person sitting in the breakfast area on her phone. She looks up and says "are you checking in?" She walks over, obviously inconveienced by the task at hand. No name tag. In about a minute I have the keys. Walking back now with the family and as we enter the elevators we do not even get the courtesy of a hello, we get the upward head nod from her seated breakfast area position. Wow. The room; couple of jet black long hairs on the sheets and a weird black smear on the bathroom shower tile up high. Otherwise acceptable. At Sunday breakfast we are greeted by another front desk employee on her phone. Probably the 45 minutes we ate breakfast she was on her phone. No hello. No smile. Breakfast was traditional grub. Probably most shocking was the blatant consumption of breakfast foods by the employees arriving for work including an employee's child and male partner (husband?) who not only ate but left with a plate of food to go. Besides the front desk person, none of the employees were wearing name tags or any hotel logo identification. Sure they had a polo and dickie pants on but unless you saw them in a group you would have no idea they were employees. read more

Severely out dated , bad plumbing in the shower (water was not draining ) , the employees bring their children to work and they were running through the halls , l could hear people stomping above me like l was in an apartment and to top it all off someone came into my room while l was sleeping . We chose this hotel for it's proximity to the Caltrain/VTA station and downtown Mountain View. I new my husband was going to hog the rental car (he's here on business and I was just tagging along) so I wanted things to do within walking distance. This hotel definitely served that purpose and it was clean, had spacious rooms, very fast wifi, free breakfast until 10am, and would be a 4 star rating if it weren't for a few things. I take a shower at both morning and night and I use a shower cap at night to keep my hair dry. The first 2 nights they gave me a shower cap but on the third night there wasn't one there. I went and got one from the front desk and the next day they gave me one. But then the next 3 days there was no shower cap (I saved the last one they gave me just in case so that wasn't a problem). I finally went up to the desk and asked for one and they tried to give me a shoe mitt. It turned out they had run out. For the rest of my stay there, 5 more days, I didn't get a replacement. This really isn't a huge deal but seeing on how I'm spending over $100 a night I would expect them to keep those sort of things in stock and/or have a faster shipping time to get them in. The other thing was there lack of TV stations. There were maybe 25 stations (the basic stations and HBO). We like to watch Food Network and the Discovery Channel and both were missing. It was obvious that they were trying to get you to buy their on-demand movies and shows. The whole time we were there we really couldn't find anything to watch and the on-demand stuff wasn't impressive and certainly wasn't worth the cost. Overall the place was nice but not exceptional. read more

This hotel is in a terrible location, the rooms have incredibly thin walls, and sound from the parking lot can easily be heard through the closed windows. There is also a railroad with trains passing throughout the night. Do not stay here if you want a quiet night sleep. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from directly neighboring rooms and anyone passing in the hallway. I'll never come back. read more

Found this place through my work travel agent and this is a little tucked away but a great find. I by all no means am a hotel snob but do like some consistency. Usually Hampton's are pretty nice and this one has to be one of the nicer ones I have stayed at. It is located right next to downtown Mountain View with tons of restaurants and shops. If you are staying in this area this is worth saving a couple bucks and staying here. read more

Loved my experience here! The staff was extra-helpful, the location was great since it was near downtown and had a little plaza next door and they offered free HOT breakfast! Beyond the usual continental fare. The suite was beautiful with white sheets and bedding and FREE wi-fi! Just stayed here for two nights while my husband was at a convention not far away. I had never been to the area and honestly wasn't too excited about our trip but this hotel and the location turned out to be perfect for us. It's within walking distance to downtown and we had a great time exploring the shops and restaurants down there. There's also a great Thai restaurant basically across the street. The hotel staff were awesome. We were travelling with our 14 month old daughter and the woman at the front desk gave her a new toy phone when we checked in. The staff at breakfast was also really nice and helpful (I thought the breakfast was great for a hotel buffet!) and we saw the same housekeepers every day that said hello and were very friendly. The room was large, clean, and it was so nice to have a fridge, microwave and sink in the room. Very happy with our stay here! read more

This was a great hotel for the price. It is clean, you get a microwave and a refrigerator and the people were very friendly. You can get a suite for around $120 or so (that could have been a special wedding rate) and that comes with 2 double beds and a couch with a pull out. You also get a safe in the room and an iron and ironing board for your convenience. Plus, a complimentary continental breakfast is included. I really like the Hampton Inn chains. I am definitely not a hotel snob and don't need the fancy schmancy places, but I do still like a decent hotel. Another nice thing is they give you conditioner. I must apologize for the weird ass LAME bad review the last guy left. Okay dude... sorry your little place burned down but WTF is with giving the hotel put into it's place one star because of that?! As I said in my last hotel review, I stay in A LOT of hotels. I go on business trips with my husband several times a year, so believe me when I say a place is good. I've seen the good, the bad and the UGLY and I won't steer you wrong! Stayed at this fine establishment two whole weeks (!) and was happy each & every day of it. Our king bed room wasn't even a suite, but when the desk guy said it was "just below that" he wasn't kidding. If this ain't a suite, I'd be shocked to see what those look like! Our room was honestly about the size of some small apartments I've lived in. Huge bathroom, cooshy king bed with a fluffy down comforter (and white freshly laundered duvet cover thankyouverymuch!) Big window you can actually OPEN for fresh air! A chair in one corner with an ottoman. A desk with free high speed internet... fridge & microwave... I could go on but I won't. It's just plain COZY there. Oh and did I mention we were put in the room right next to the back elevator and room containing the soda & ice machine? When we first arrived I just anticipated the amount of noise we were bound to hear. Nope! Walls must be thick & well built (hello good for other things too!) ;)~ The hotel also offers a complimentary continental breakfast each morning that isn't grand but isn't the sad pathetic version other hotels try to pass off. The muffins are fresh, bagels good, hot things hot and cold things cold :) You get my point. Thank you Hampton Inn for a wonderful stay! read more

Very nice hotel! The rooms are spacious, modern and very clean! There is a small kitchenette area with sink, microwave and mini-refrigerator. The staff is very friendly and the daily breakfast is well done. There is significant construction going on to expand the hotel, so it can be noisy (there is a note about this on the hotel's website). I was traveling for business and found this hotel to be suitable for my needs. Great location.....the hotel, not my room. My room was facing the street and I could hear it through out the night even though I specifically asked for a quiet room. Due to it's popularity the hotel did seem very full. When I check in I was able to get close parking, but after I returned from dinner I had to search for a spot. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Would stay here again, if I'm in the area. read more

I only stayed here for one night--my previous hotel had bedbugs and after spending a few hours getting my stuff together and debugged I wanted someplace to spend the rest of the night that was clean and comfortable. I arrived around 3 am. Front desk didn't bat an eye, they were pleasant and gave me a free upgrade to the king room. The room was huge and clean with a comfortable bed (and, importantly, a nice shower). Breakfast was still out when I headed down around 10 am--hot and good selection. I had a delicious waffle with real fruit on top. Great location a few blocks from Caltrain, near restaurants and downtown. Price was reasonable for the area (but I wasn't prepared to pay it for the week I was in town, so had to move on after a good night's rest). I'd stay here again. read more

this place far exceeded my expectations! i stayed here for new year's eve since it's walking distance to the club that we went to for NYE. i honestly was not expecting much from this hotel but was very pleasantly surprised at how clean and modern the place is. from the outside it looks like a typical inn&suites place but the rooms are very nice, super clean carpet, decent size and modern furnishings. they have nice linens and dont give you crappy duvet covers that make you wonder if they've ever been washed. definitely felt super comfortable here! they offer free breakfast (though we missed it!) and what looks to be a 24/7 coffee station. the location is super convenient ~ walkable to what looks to be downtown mountainview and literally next door to a liquor store. (can't be more perfect for NYE!) i would totally give this place 5 stars if it hadn't been for the fire alarm that blasted in the middle of the night. not sure what happened, there wasn't an actual fire, so we just stayed in bed... :) read more

I don't write hotel reviews, nobody reads them. But my experience in this hotel has been so amazing, that I can't sit quiet any more. At least the NSA will read it. First, the "business center". I have never ever been in a 2x4 feet room before, that deserves the name of "business center" more than this one. No less than 2 (2!) computers running the venerable Windows XP, and two printers that might be relics from a museum! You don't need a scanner anyway. The elevator is also amazing: you can reach top floor in less than 10 minutes ! The breakfast room is however the best feature: it's modeled after a business room, with business tables that make you feel like you eat in the meeting ! Now isn't that original ? Oh, did I mention there is also a jacuzzi next to the breakfast-business room. What can be more relaxing ? The food quality is spectacular. But I will let you discover that for yourself. You can also order in room-service (fine print: the order is taken by a guy in Colorado, who will call a local joint, which doesn't have the Tiramisu. Or a Combination Pizza. Or anything else from the room leaflet, for that matter. The tip is 15% though) In conclusion, this hotel totally deserves its place in the heart of Silicon Valley and to charge a mere 220$ per night. Who knows what startup would have used this space instead, to change the world again. Oh please! The world needs some rest after all this changing. A rest at this amazing hotel. read more
