Having read all of the bad reviews for this place, I was very wary with booking a reservation at this hotel back in late January. However, I just needed a place for one night. This location was very convenient and the rate was the most affordable in the area. It's located on Encinitas Blvd just off of the 5 freeway. There's a vacant restaurant building just right in front of it. At the time, the lobby was closed due to COVID safety protocols. The check-in process was done via the after-hours window. After taking care of the paperwork, I was given a room on the 3rd floor. The room was pretty clean and everything appeared to be in working order. However, in the bathroom, there were some crack floor tiles and the water for the tub/shower couldn't be shutoff all the way. Maybe I lucked out with an okay room. There are plenty of food options all within walking distance.

    Cockroaches

This hotel was horrible. I went there with my sister for my Bachelorette trip. We checked in and as soon as we opened the front door, a cockroach came in the door so I killed it. No big deal. But then the toilet stopped working so we called the front desk and he got to the room super quick. However, he didn't speak any English. Luckily my sister in law who's fluent in Spanish was able to translate for us. The toilet was fixed until later that night when we were going to bed. It kept making this noise like the water was running every 5 minutes so finally my sister turned off the water to the tank. Next day we're getting ready to go out and I notice another cockroach but this time it's dead. We go around the room and find 3 cockroaches all dead in the room and 1 pincher-bug. We let the front desk know because it was disgusting. They said they would send someone up to clean it, although it never happened. Finally later that night, at 5 am when we're sleeping the smoke alarm goes off really loud waking us up and scaring us. It kept repeating every 30 seconds that the smoke alarm was low on batteries. I call the front desk 3 times. No answer. Finally my sister gets on the desk (I'm 5'1 so I'm useless there) and she gets the batteries out of the smoke alarm. No luck. It keeps on going off. I call the front desk again, and finally someone answers. They inform us they can't do anything to help us as they are the only one at the front desk and if there was someone in the room who could help try to detach it. Finally after 5 minutes, my sister was able to detach it from the ceiling. We're both exhausted and annoyed about this problem and the cockroach problem. After an hour has passed we finally are able to go back to bed. A couple hours later, we check out of the hotel and we talk to the manager Gabrielle and he informs us he's unable to do anything discount wise as we booked through Priceline. We're both frustrated because of these issues we had during the whole trip so we call Priceline. The Priceline agent apologizes to us and asks us to please hold while she talks to the manager. She comes back on the line and explains that the manager Gabrielle offered us $50 back which just pisses us off because he never once offered us anything as we booked through a "third party" and he was unable to do anything. Priceline couldn't do much other than give us $50 back. Very disappointing & frustrating. Never again.

    Bed bug bites

Didn't even want to give this place a 1 star. My job got me a room here on 12/03/22 and I had only 6 hours to sleep before I had to be back on the road at 1:30 am. I woke up in a lot of pain within a few hours of being here. Got out of bed turned the light on and all I see is blood on my bed and welts all over my arms, ankles, breast. I saw bedbugs crawling on my pillows and my sheets. Called the office and was placed in another room. Had to throw my clothes away jump I'm the shower right away.

So here's the tl:dr; NOBODY should have to live, even temporarily, in such terrible conditions. And most definitely not when paying for the privilege to stay there. I understand that sometimes, financially, we all do what we need to. Hence my own reason for staying at the Days Inn in Encinitas. Except the conditions there are so deplorable, so squalid, instead of the two weeks I had reserved, I ended up staying just one night. And stayed that night because I had to find a different place to reserve a room and set that up for the next day. Wow. Everything about this Days Inn was questionable, at best. Concrete floors leading to rooms on 2nd floor were all wet from the air conditioner runoff from every room. Dresser held together by duct tape. See photo of that one. Room walls do nothing to insulate from noise in other rooms. Security latch on door in room I was in - room 215, was free-floating and looked like it could have easily been forced open. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. Bathtub had a continual leak from the faucet. Bathtub stained. The lobby was closed - no entry. To register, or check out, or anything to communicate with front desk staff, I had to stand outside, and communicate with the person on duty through a glass window with a small opening at the bottom for passing paperwork back and forth. Imagine if it's a torrential downpour of rain and you've got to do that? Sure, there's a small overhang. Wouldn't stop rain in wind though. No elevator to 2nd or 3rd floor. Do I go on? Nah. Not worth my time to at this point.

Completely eaten alive by fleas. I stayed just one night and I had so many bites on my body in the morning that I had to go to urgent care. My wife Called the hotel and they didnt really seem to care. We tried saying that they need to fumigate that room but the manager said no one is complaining. well we were and I have photos of the bites. on my hand it was so bad that my finger got a massive blood blister. All I can say is yes it's very inexpensive for the area but those bug bites were no joke.

Pubic hairs on the wall of the shower

I'm extremely disappointed for my stay here on May 27 , graffiti on the table, pubic hair, still in the shower . I have stayed at this establish numerous times never any issues. Then ice marker was out of ice the front desk told me they can't fill the water until after 8:30 I needed the ice now before leaving for games.

Parking: Valet only $60 overnight Concierge and receptionist table is very simple and 1 person helping only, she is Super duper sweet and helpful. She checked us in, and since we booked via Amex, we received complimentary: - Suite upgrades - early check in - guarantee 4pm check out - daily breakfast for 2 - In room wifi - and $150 resort credit apply for restaurant, spa etc. This place has a e-bike, paddle board an surf board for guests to use anytime complimentary. If you happened to stay in 2nd floor, which they only have 3 floors, where Vaga restaurant is, to find your room is kinda tricky. Look at the signage and the room are through the double door, on your left when you face the restaurant. It requires your keycard access to enter through the double door. The room is so relaxing, the vibe is comforting. It has complimentary coffee, nespresso tea and bottle water. You can ask for more water at concierge. Look at the real life I believe eucalyptus stem on top of the shower head, love it. There's also a gym and spa in 1st floor, also access to beach. We asked for recommended restaurant around the area, she gave a 4 pages list of restaurant and little shops 2nd floor - has venue area with spacious gathering area and balcony overlooking the beach. Evening: you can enjoy cocktails on VAGA restaurant overlooking the beach with outdoor fireplace and patio. Fyi: the room has thin walls. We can hear ppl talking, walking, running on hall way every moment. So on our final bill: They comp all our daily breakfast including tips and room service delivery. They automatically deduct $150 resort credit regardless you spend under. It will apply to any other fees. Like it because they don't Knicks pick every single expenses, that shows their reputation and their hotel guests matter over little charges. Overall, love this place. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended.

I specify in-person because calling them on the phone to confirm details was terrible. Friendly staff and guest services showing up at lightning speed left me speechless. Called down for extra slippers, and guest services showed up within 5 minutes. Asked for water as well and he returned within 2 minutes. Swear the staff must be sprinting or something. The rooms are great. We got a lagoon view, which while not as beautiful as an ocean view, was quite nice. We had a view of the freeway and a parking lot, but in the not-so-far distance, there was a nice view of the lagoon. The room. patio, and shower are all massive. Even at 100% capacity and a wedding happening during our stay, we never felt like it was too crowded. No loud noises throughout the night either.

It's a great place to stay of you can be self sufficient after mid morning hours. I had a problem with my tv and the office sign said they were open till 11:00pm. I told them about the problem in the morning (there were two people there) and the guy offered to come and help me with it but I was on my way out. I just figured I would come back when I returned. Returned late afternoon and there was no one there. the doors were all open but no one at the desk or nearby. I checked all night and never saw anyone. Frustrating. I understand staffing shortages but why not stagger their shifts so there is coverage during the posted hours. Needless to say, I spent the entire trip unable to watch tv but it's the beach so no big deal I guess. The staff on the morning I did see them was very nice and courteous. My room was pretty clean with the exception of the bathroom. The baseboards were a little dirty and there was built up dirt in the corners. The floor tile in the shower was probably clean but looked dirty. Time to replace it. The water pressure was really good compared to some places I've stayed. I had my car which I could've easily done without and still been able to find food and entertainment. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby accessible by foot. There is an amazing rooftop patio with killer views! My friends and I spent a lot of time up there watching the sunset. Parking was in an underground garage and pretty pricey. When you get there, you don't see the parking if you don't know where to look but access the back of the building through the alleyway and the garage is right there. Not that many parking spaces but it's a small lodge so there was more than enough. Street parking was also available if you were lucky enough to find it. Pipes Cafe (just down the street by foot) was my go to for breakfast but there were also lots of options for lunch and dinner. I'd stay here again.

After a long day at the Legoland water park my family of 4 was ready to shower and get to sleep. Unfortunately the house keeping, which I might add did a wonderful job, they forgot to add towels. We stayed for a few nights during our home fumigation and after comparing just about every motel/inn around the Encinitas and Carlsbad area, I'm really glad we settled on this one. Pros: it is clean! That's not to be confused with showing its age, because it absolutely could use a facelift, but the cleanliness was there. It's convenient! Right by the freeway and yet close enough to downtown Encinitas to walk to dinner or shopping. Conveniently located right across the street from Lazy Acres, a laundromat, Mexican food, and Mr. Peabody's bar and grill. It has a nice little gym. Was there some dust? Sure but the equipment and weights did the trick, and the small gym had a little patio to stand on during cool downs. NO added cost to park cars! Some hotels were asking for $30-40 per night per vehicle and this place had the cost covered in the standard $15 hotel fee. Park as many cars as you'd like. Come and go as you please. The parking lot felt safe, and as a woman making several trips to my car in the evening I felt just fine. It's nice that you're up on a hill so you do feel more secluded from any possible unsavory surprises. No hidden fees! They are upfront about taxes and there were no surprises. WiFi was just fine, though our stay was not during busy season. Continental breakfast is included! Fried eggs and sausage were very average, but grab some coffee, a pastry, some toast, juice, cereal and you don't have to think twice about breakfast. It was basic but not gross by any means. This is not the place for you if you're expecting 5 star service, but it would be a great spot for families visiting town. Note: turn down service and daily cleaning is not provided but this was not an issue for us staying just a few days. Comfy beds and pillows, towels are nice. Front desk staff was helpful when needed, and every room has a nice balcony view. The walls are thin so if you're by the elevator or ice machine, expect to hear some kids running down the halls, but this place has everything we needed at a very affordable rate. We would absolutely come back for a little staycation in the future.

We've grown to like Hampton Inns in general because they have such a great breakfast and the rooms tend to be spacious and comfortable, and this was no exception. In this specific case, because our American Express card is linked to Hilton Honors, we were able to use our reward points to book the room (cost us 60,000 points for the night). This was also the first time I had used the Hilton mobile app for Hampton Inn. I was able to use the app to not only book the room, but check in the night before, get a digital key, and check out. I used the digital key in the app to unlock the room door, and it was very fast and easy. There was also a floor plan of the hotel on the app so I could see where our room was located and could walk straight there. The only time I had any interaction with the front desk was to stop by during breakfast the next day to verify that check-out time was noon. Pros: Room was comfortable and spacious, very easy to maneuver the wheelchair in. This particular room has a roll-in shower, and you get a nice, full strength stream of water (so many other hotels have water-saving devices where the stream is fairly weak). Also, the bathroom has a nightlight. At other hotels, I usually have to leave the bathroom light or entry-way light on so I can find my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night without bumping into anything, but the nightlight in the bathroom cast just enough light for me to see. Air conditioning worked well. I was a little confused because there was a thermostat controller mounted on the wall that I couldn't get to power on. Turns out that you control the temperature and fan directly from the A/C unit that's mounted under the window. There's also a switch mounted on the wall that controls the window shade. Nice full breakfast, with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, Belgian waffle machines, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, fruit, different breads to make toast, and a juice machine. Staff was very mindful to keep all of the items stocked up. Tip: for crispier bacon, lay a napkin on a paper plate, put your bacon on it, then press another napkin on top of the bacon to soak up the grease. Roomy desk that was big enough where I could set up my laptop plus a portable external monitor. USB ports by the bed and desk for phone charging. Noon check-out time. We could sleep in and take our time to pack. Cons: Our room (room 132) didn't have any towel racks. The towels are folded nicely on a couple of shelves in the bathroom, and there's a hook next to the shower where the hair dryer hung from, but there were no towel racks to hang face cloths, hand towels, and bath towels once you used them. I looked at some of the pictures from other reviews, and it looks like in a regular, non-accessible room, there are racks mounted on the shower door. But since our roll-in shower had shower curtains instead of a shower door, there were no racks. They could easily mount a couple on the back wall between the shower and toilet. We ended up using the hand rails around the toilet to hang our towels. Could use some more lighting by the dresser/TV. There is a small desk lamp on the desk, and two lights by the head of the bed, but the dresser area gets a little dark at night. The bar in the closet is a little low, but maybe this is to make it easier to reach for someone in a wheelchair. If you have a long dress that needs hanging, your dress is probably going to touch the floor. Seating area for breakfast is a little cramped and small. If you want to move a chair out of the way to make room for a wheelchair, difficult finding a place to put the chair temporarily. There are also some seats in the lobby. Could use some more handicapped parking spaces. There are only four, and all were taken by the time we got there. But there seemed to be plenty of parking in general.
