Taking the short walk to Moonlight Beach to catch sundown. Then picking a place for dinner on PCH.

The location is great! After that, nothing is great. The AC didn't work. The phone didn't work. Couldn't connect to the WiFi. The hot tub looked very green. The property is run down with rust, many holes in the wood railing and just not well maintained. It had been a nice hotel in the past. Sad. Now there's a $15/night "Amenity fee"!! Ridiculous

I stay at the Encinitan a few times a year on business. It's fine. The handful of rooms in which I've stayed have one thing in common. See the picture below.

Pillow alert - Bring your own pillow. Their pillows are small and hard. No comfortable seating or sofa for the price. Floors are cold, no rug by the bed. No USB plugs at all. Also, the room has a smell. Pros: Great view, large balcony, HBO, Large tiled shower, great location. Stayed here end of April 2023. I was going to give it a second try during the summer, but not sure as I was unable to sleep. Update: I bought my own pillow at a nearby Target and slept well the second night. We stayed two nights and I asked them to clean the room ~ it was never cleaned. The Front Desk staff was telling patrons that on 5/1/23, this hotel would no longer be a Best Western. I hope the new owners improve this hotel. It has potential and a great location.

I stayed at the best western moonlight beach Encinitas ca on Saturday 3/19 I rented 2 rooms $500 on Saturday. Room 218 did not have a working tv, was dirty and smelled. I left 2 messages trying to get ahold of someone regarding tv. I finally walked to front desk and lady said she could not help me. She was only one there, they were sold out and no maintenance. She said I'd have to wait to talk to manager next day but no idea when. So I paid 250 for a room that I could not watch tv even though it advertised tv. My husband is also handicapped and we could not find parking because people were illegally parked in handicap parking and red zone parking. This place is a nightmare!! I've left several messages, I asked to wait for manager and after 39 minutes hung up on. I called back 11 x and keep getting sent to voicemail. This place is a scam!!

Dust from the curtains. I was hanging banners for my wife's bday

My stay started out ok. But then it took a terrible turn after the cops where called on me by someone. While that may have not been the fault of the hotel. Many other things where -actual ants in the hot tub (because of this on my wife's birthday I had to pick them out of her hair and teeth) -moldy and disgusting green shower head -bird poop on balcony -the dust that covered the curtains -the weird noise from the bathroom when the shower and the heat are on -even AFTER I asked. No towels in the pool area -no one to bring extra towels -the iced over mini-fridge Now the encinitan is not a big name hotel, so I don't expect the coffee to be good, or the 3$ vending machine soda to have something besides Pepsi and water. I can't expect for a small hotel to have a covered smoking area or elevators with up to date inspections. Because that's all stuff that only big name hotels have the flow to care about. But when it's a small "family owned" establishment. You at least expect the place to be clean. You at least expect the facilities to not put bugs in your hair. Those aren't budget issues. They are staffing and management issues. Jeff was actually great though. He's awesome and you should appreciate him better

The Best Western chain isn't exactly five stars, but I still expect a certain level of hospitality and cleanliness. Unfortunately, this was NOT the case here. First and foremost, there is NO turndown service. No matter how many days you stay, you clean your own room. On vacation. The location drew us in, it's minutes from moonlight beach and all the best restaurants and bars. However, the staff was argumentative, unfriendly and our room was just stinky! The laundry room was busy all the time from guests washing and drying their own sheets, how pitiful. To not have clean towels and sheets on vacation is mind-blowing!! We stayed a few nights and then made reservations at the Omni. DO NOT STAY HERE.

This review has been a long time coming. My friend and I actually stayed here back in September. We were on a road trip to visit my friend's daughter. My friend has stayed at this hotel for years when she would come down and visit her daughter at college. Then her daughter decided to move down here. My friend was raving about this hotel. Such a great location to Moonlight Beach, shopping and restaurants. She lives the kitchen with the full size fridge and microwave. We love to eat out and our eyes are bigger then our stomachs- at this hotel, left overs are not a problem. You can refrigerate them and then microwave the food when hungry. She also said how yummy the breakfast buffet was. How she loved it right by the pool, and the selections were great. Obviously with covid- we knew things would be different this visit. The hotel still has coffee with flavored creamers as well as infused waters in the lobby. Always need a cup of coffee to get started in the morning, and the lemon and lime infused ice water was refreshing when we would come back in from the beach. The breakfast is now a tiny take away bag with an apple juice, pastry, and nuts pack. The pastry flavors were different depending on the day, apple, berry, cheese. By our last morning there, they were out of nuts in the go bags. We loved the space of the rooms. I was able to lay out my yoga mat and get some good yoga in with plenty of room to move without bumping a wall The room appeared to be clean. Our main issue with the hotel- and why it took me so long to write this review was because 2 of the 3 nights we stayed here we were woken up at 2 am when the people above us would get back to their rooms. They were very loud and were waking up everyone. The noise would last at least 2 hours both nights. It sounded like they were moving furniture and bowling above us. We talked to the front desk- but it didn't stop. Front desk told us after the second night complaining that the people would be gone the next night. Honestly, security should have been sent to the room to quiet them down. You could hear other guests yelling at them to stop and be quiet. Guests should not have to deal with this. Also, the people above us dumped coffee all over our chairs and table on our patio. It appeared to be intentional, there wasn't a cup that had fallen, just all the coffee. I originally planned to do yoga outside and enjoy the beach air/ but was concerned about having things poured on me. The pool was open/ we would sit out there in the morning and plan our day. Again- we didn't want to use our deck. Plenty of parking every time we came back. The delay in the review was deciding on 2 or 3 stars based on our visit. I do like this hotel/ and my friend has been back since- without any noisy neighbors. Just wish the hotel would handle noisy and disrespectful guests better. The front desk didn't even apologize when we were telling them about the noise and lack of sleep.

Parking: Valet only $60 overnight Concierge and receptionist table is very simple and 1 person helping only, she is Super duper sweet and helpful. She checked us in, and since we booked via Amex, we received complimentary: - Suite upgrades - early check in - guarantee 4pm check out - daily breakfast for 2 - In room wifi - and $150 resort credit apply for restaurant, spa etc. This place has a e-bike, paddle board an surf board for guests to use anytime complimentary. If you happened to stay in 2nd floor, which they only have 3 floors, where Vaga restaurant is, to find your room is kinda tricky. Look at the signage and the room are through the double door, on your left when you face the restaurant. It requires your keycard access to enter through the double door. The room is so relaxing, the vibe is comforting. It has complimentary coffee, nespresso tea and bottle water. You can ask for more water at concierge. Look at the real life I believe eucalyptus stem on top of the shower head, love it. There's also a gym and spa in 1st floor, also access to beach. We asked for recommended restaurant around the area, she gave a 4 pages list of restaurant and little shops 2nd floor - has venue area with spacious gathering area and balcony overlooking the beach. Evening: you can enjoy cocktails on VAGA restaurant overlooking the beach with outdoor fireplace and patio. Fyi: the room has thin walls. We can hear ppl talking, walking, running on hall way every moment. So on our final bill: They comp all our daily breakfast including tips and room service delivery. They automatically deduct $150 resort credit regardless you spend under. It will apply to any other fees. Like it because they don't Knicks pick every single expenses, that shows their reputation and their hotel guests matter over little charges. Overall, love this place. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended.

Cons: Our door stuck (it's an outside door in a beach town, so that's 100% normal), but it was loud to close and probably annoyed our neighbors. Their doors were also very loud and startled us a few times during the night. Teeny tiny parking spaces in the private parking garage. I wish the bathroom fan was better. The bathroom mirror was unusable for at least 25 mins after a shower because it stayed too humid. There were supposed to be breakfast pastries and juice in the mornings, but I never saw these things. I asked about it when we checked out, and the person at the desk said we just needed to ask for them in the office each morning. I had anticipated a visible setup in the office based on my discussion with the person at check-in. A better explanation would have been helpful.

My husband had just finished working six consecutive shifts at the fire department, and we were simply looking forward to a nice evening together. As we entered the parking lot, two men in a golf cart crossed in front of our vehicle. My husband honked, and there was later a brief verbal exchange about what had happened. There were no threats or physical confrontation from us, and we believed the matter was over. Later, while we were still seated at our dinner table, a woman we had never met approached us and began questioning us about the parking-lot interaction. She told us that she and her husband were club members, repeatedly referenced their membership, said she had never seen us there before, and told us she "didn't want any problems in the future." I cannot speak to what she intended, but the encounter made both of us feel intimidated, unwelcome, and extremely uncomfortable. We later learned that an Aviara Country Club member event was being held at the restaurant that evening. After dinner, we discovered that our vehicle had been extensively damaged while parked on the property. Carlsbad Police investigated, and surveillance footage from the property documented what occurred. An individual associated with the earlier parking-lot encounter became the alleged suspect during the investigation. Our vehicle ultimately sustained nearly $15,000 in repair costs. I am intentionally not identifying anyone or making any statement about guilt. I am simply describing what my husband and I experienced that evening. What has disappointed us most is Park Hyatt Aviara's response afterward. I personally contacted hotel management and was told that Hyatt was cooperating with police, which we appreciated. We were also told that someone from Aviara Golf Club management would contact us to discuss what happened. That call never came. I understand that a hotel cannot control the actions of every person on its property, and I am not assigning legal responsibility to Hyatt. My concern is how we were treated as guests after such a serious and disturbing experience. We experienced an uncomfortable confrontation during dinner, left to discover nearly $15,000 in damage to our vehicle, and had to involve law enforcement. Yet we never felt the level of concern, communication, or follow-through we expected from a five-star property. That is what has been most disappointing. We chose Park Hyatt Aviara because we expected exceptional hospitality and guest care consistent with the Park Hyatt name. Instead, we left feeling uncomfortable, unsupported, and profoundly disappointed. I sincerely hope Park Hyatt Aviara considers how guests are cared for when something goes seriously wrong during their visit.
