Gorgeous little inn atop a knoll with amazing views of the blue ridge. Kind and attentive hosts Derick and Michele couldn't have been nicer. Place is extremely clean and nicely furnished- breakfast was fine, there are other options in addition to the main entree (a ham, egg and cheese breakfast bake- terrific). They offer homemade granola, yogurt and a selection of juices. Real draw here is this inn a shirt easy drive to downtown Lexington but you feel like you are out in the country. Can't wait to visit again when we can take advantage of the extensive porches and outdoor areas. read more

We spent our honeymoon here in 2012. It was great to ring in the New Year there and to enjoy the quaint and inspiring landscape and the local shops in Lexington. I stayed here for 4 nights for a solo spring getaway. It was spectacular. The room and views are magazine-worthy and I looked forward to breakfast every day. Barbara and Volker are extremely attentive and kind. I spent most of my time during the day at the Shenandoah National Park, which is quite a drive from Lexington. But I wouldn't change a thing because Brierly Hill is unmatched. I hope to return someday soon! read more

Just stayed at the Bed & Breakfast 3/20-3/22. This home is absolutely beautiful! Upon arrival we were greeted promptly by Dave, one of the inn keepers. My husband and I stayed at the Bed & Breakfast to celebrate our 5th anniversary. When we got to our room the "Good Friends" suite we had a cute little "Happy Anniversary" sign as well as some chocolates. Our room included a private porch and huge jacuzzi tub! We definitely took advantage of both. We also had a mini fridge (stocked with soda and water) and a coffee machine (with teas, coffee, and hot chocolate). The great thing about the "Good Friends" suite was that it is the only room located downstairs, thereby adding some more privacy to your stay. The common areas were nice. There was a porch with rocking chairs to look out over the gorgeous view. Upstairs there was a small common area with a large selection of DVDs and a puzzle to work on if one wanted to. There was also peanut M&Ms, pretzels, and cookies available in the common areas during the day. Breakfast was good. The first day we had baked grapefruit, waffles with fruit, AMAZING bacon, and were offered an ice cream sundae for dessert. The second morning we had fruit with yogurt and homemade granola (which was very good!), and an egg casserole type dish (I can't remember the name). We also liked visiting with their dogs, Deuce and Tucker, and their cat Lilly. The pets all stayed in a separate area, away from guests. The only negatives I found were some of the amenities were lacking (when compared to other bed & breakfasts I've been too) and the decor wasn't my style (a little too early 90s for me). All in all I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing weekend in small town America. Dave and Karen, the inn keepers, are so very accommodating and a very sweet couple. Such a beautiful property, with an amazing view! Very convenient to all of the little shops and restaurants in Lexington. We recently stayed at Brierley Hill for a short little 2-night getaway. Our room, Eagles View, was lovely and the view in the morning--of the fog sitting down in the valley and the fall foliage--was stunning! We greatly appreciated that the tables in the breakfast room were comfortably 'social-distanced.' The breakfasts themselves were delicious, and we also appreciated that coffee was available before breakfast, especially with a later breakfast seating. Without question, we'll look at staying at Brierley Hill again, when we're next in the Lexington area! read more

I don't know how or why I am just getting around to this review. I have been meaning to send a thank you card for some time now actually. My then boyfriend , and now fiancé came here to celebrate my birthday weekend. He went by the photos and thought we were allowed to bring our dog. Little did he know , it was just the sweet family dogs in the photo and our sully was an unexpected visitor. Dave worked with us diligently on finding a place for Sully to stay with the local veterinarian ; mind you ... this was late at night. And the sweet Vet came in the middle of the night to his office to allow Sully to stay with him. I have never experienced anything like that , and I doubt I will again. Such wonderful hospitality. We were so grateful for our stay. From the fresh baked cookies that were left out daily to the amazing gourmet breakfast, I could have not asked for a better birthday weekend. GO. GO. GOO. The Brierley Hill Bed and Breakfast is a member of the Select Registry, a reliable indicator for a good bed and breakfast. This B&B is my favorite one that I have ever stayed at. I was very satisfied with the quality of our room (e.g., cleanliness, fireplace, whirlpool/jacuzzi) and the rest of the house. The owners and their dogs were there to greet us and attend to us during our entire stay and were very nice. The views of the mountains and trees were spectacular. The setting felt so peaceful that this stay actually inspired my husband and I to move from our hectic city life to a quieter place. A full breakfast was prepared for us in the morning and tasted very good. GPS did not have us stop at the correct address, so if your GPS gets you lost, just keep going down the road. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for Valentine's Day weekend. The home is gorgeous, the owners are wonderful and breakfast was amazing! We were in the Once Upon a Time room and had lovely views from the bedroom and bathroom of the valley below. Our room had a small gas fireplace and lovely decor. The bed was so comfy! Even though the B&B was fully booked for the weekend, we never heard anyone else. The views from the deck were fantastic and the breakfast room was lovely and well laid out. We stayed at this BnB located just outside of the Lexington city limits for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It rained most of our trip, but that did provide us with a double rainbow at sunset on the first night. The view from the veranda is amazing as the house is located atop a hill looking out into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Dave and Karen were very hospitable and we were greeted as we parked. Dave also took the time to give us maps and offer recommendations on places to visit and dining options. I would definitely recommend staying here and visiting the historic town of Lexington. read more

Needed a place to stay in Lexington, VA, near The Theater at Lime Kiln for a concert. This B&B is just down the road. Stunning views of the montains from guest rooms and back porch, where breakfast is served during warm weather. Rooms are well appointed, nicely decorated and clean. Very close to historic Lexington. Breakfast was yummy. I especially enjoyed the peach soup. If you are looking for a weekend getaway during leaf-peeping season, you can't go wrong with this one. read more

We had a wonderful 3 night stay here. Dave and Karen were so welcoming and attentive. They helped my boyfriend plan surprise proposal, which was so special. The views from the B&B are wonderful and I recommend some star gazing from the hammocks at the back of the house. We stayed in the Peace room and really liked it. The breakfasts were delicious and the complimentary snacks and drink were perfect for after a long cycle/hike. It's a great place to get away for a relaxing weekend. read more

The Brierley is a beautifully appointed Bed and Breakfast (B&B) nestled on a hill on the outskirts of downtown Lexington, Virginia (one of the 20 best small towns to visit according to Smithsonian Magazine). There are other hotels and B&B's in the area, but the Brierley had the best reviews by far and it's part of the Select Registry which lists only high quality B&B's so clientele know they can enjoy a pleasant stay. Dave and Karen Innocent have been running this B&B for over a year now. The Brierley is well-kept; from the grounds (lovely flowers and plants abound), to the foot paths, to the patio, to the interior. There are many thoughtful touches throughout. My friends and I stayed at the Brierley on a Friday night and there were two other rooms booked, but it was quiet the entire stay and we would never have know anyone else was there had we not seen the other cars or met the other guests at breakfast. We could roam around as we pleased and use the kitchen as necessary to heat up water etc. Dave and Karen live off of the kitchen but we never saw anyone except when we were leaving in the evening and saw Dave in the parking lot and also in the morning at breakfast. So this is not the type of B&B where you have to be engaged with the owners or other guests. I know that kind of interaction sometimes deters people from staying at B&Bs Check-In: Check-in was efficient. Dave met us at our car and helped with our bags and then checked us in and showed us to our rooms and left us to roam around and enjoy the premises without meddling. Room: My friends and I stayed in the Wedgwood room since it could accommodate three people. The room had a serene feel with 5 windows (I know, because I had to close all of the blinds at night - btw, the blinds were awesome and so easy to maneuver), wood floors, and a fire place. The Wedgwood room is on one end of the stairs opposite from the other rooms which helps with the noise. I did hear a noisemaker on the other end of the hall that could help dampen any noise that might travel. Directly outside of the room is a seating area with a TV and recent DVD movies. There is also a mini-fridge with water and soda. The beds were decently comfortable. They are fitted with Comphy sheets which are my favorite but the bed I slept in did not have them and I discovered in the morning that there were extra sheets in the closet. The water pressure in the shower was a little low to my standards but my friends thought it was fine. There is a makeup mirror available (YES!). Also the walls are a bit thin between the bedroom and bathroom so it was a bit hard to get to sleep if someone else was in the bathroom showering. It was a bit foggy in the morning, but Dave said on a nice morning, the sky will turn shades of pink. We did see a nice sunrise eventually. The view is definitely breathtaking. Breakfast: Breakfast was phenomenal! Dave and Karen normally cook and serve breakfast together but Karen was sick so Dave was on his own and did a great job! We sat inside the dining room while the other guests sat on the patio. The setting was peaceful with nice music playing in the background. Dave served us tea, coffee, mango juice, and his homemade mint iced tea which was delicious!! He then served yogurt parfaits with banana, grapes, blueberries, and pineapple. The fruit was super fresh. The entrée consisted of sausage patties, cucumber and tomato salad, and an egg casserole made with egg, cottage cheese, cream cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, mushrooms, and roasted red pepper. I DO NOT eat eggs, but I did enjoy every bit of that casserole. It was not "egg-y" at all and the cheese was just so gooood. Dave was also accommodating when my friend could not eat the casserole due to dietary restrictions, so he scrambled up some plain eggs for her. My friends also enjoyed the local raw honey in some hot water. This was the best meal we had in Lexington. The Brierley has really cute coffee mugs too so my friend purchased one to take home as a souvenir. Getting there: The Brierley is located down a REALLY windy road which can be dangerous because you cannot see traffic coming around the bend. It seems safer at night when you can at least turn on your high beams. The roads before the Brierley are not lit at night. However, the entire Brierley is lit up at night so you cannot miss it. Note: The Brierley does not require a 2 night minimum stay!! Love that! Cost: For three people the cost was $299 per night with tax, which includes breakfast. read more

My wife and I took a 4 day trip to celebrate my birthday. We drove 9 hours to Asheville NC but on the way back, we wanted to spend some time in the beautiful town of Lexington Virginia. We were lucky that Dave and Karen had a room available and enjoyed our stay at the Brierley Hill B&B. The views were spectacular and our room was beautifully decorated. Breakfast was a gourmet treat and our hosts were wonderful. Nanci and I are talking about doing a longer trip to the region and we will definitely stay at the Brierley Hill.
