I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn Manhattan Grand Central. Don't let this bare bones hotel fool you! I got a great deal for a one night King Bed stay on Groupon. The room was small, but got the job done. Breakfast was free, checkout at noon, and they have a complimentary bag check for before and after checkout so you can wander the city without having to tote bags with you. They were in the middle of renovating and repairing what looked like water damage/mold at the check in counter, but we were on the 19th floor and didn't hear it at all. They only did construction during daytime hours and not during meal service. They have a small gym and business center, although we didn't use those, and offer free lemon water in the lobby. It is located right next to Grand Central station, so it's very convenient for a Manhattan trip! They were also one of the most accommodating hotels I've been to in terms of allergies. To the staff member that helped me during breakfast find all of the labels and ingredient information, thank you! You made my day. They even had strawberry waffles and cute little sprinkles and syrups to add as part of their "February Breakfast"! They also offered free all-day coffee and tea. They had full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and a hair dryer in the room as well, so save yourself the packing space! I would be happy to stay here again. read more

Pros: fair price for the location, friendly staff, clean rooms, wifi, complimentary breakfast. Cons: walls are thin. You can hear conversations in the room next to you, no problem. I booked this hotel for a work trip. It was easy to book online. There is no parking for this hotel. However, there is a parking garage right down the block next to Avis. The parking garage was willing to give a small discount on parking since I stayed at the hotel. The front desk service was friendly and professional in person and on the phone. They were able to accept my tax-exempt form with no issue. The hotel was nice and clean in the lobby, the elevator, and the room. However, the room is pretty tight. Thankfully, I was staying by myself so there was enough room for me to move about. But I think if I was staying with my partner, it might've felt like we were on top of each other. There were no issues with noise. The next morning, there was free breakfast provided. It included a great spread of fruits, waffles, bagels, muffins, and hot food like cheese omelets, potatoes, and bacon. Overall, this was a nice hotel. It served its purpose for my work trip. However, I don't think that I would return to stay in a single room with an additional person. read more

We stayed here for an overnight stay, and the hotel is in the area closer to the avis rental company. The paid parking is available next or in the same location as avis. They validate the parking for reduced price. The parking price is okay and not bad for New york. The hotel is very well maintained but the rooms are okay and the staff is very friendly. I reserved a room at this establishment months ago and I called earlier to confirm my reservation. Someone they connected me to told me that they didn't have my reservation and when I asked him why his response was he "didn't know." My stay would have had nearly been $800. Thankfully I was able to quickly re- book at another hotel. But if I showed up to this place without calling I could have had been stuck in the city without a room. This isn't the service I would expect from a NY Hotel by Grand Central, but that of a Motel 6. read more

Stayed here two nights in September while in town for a couple ball games. I would say that when I was trying to find a place to stay I wanted something close to things but far enough away from the main action, valet parking, and close to subway. This isn't the biggest building, and our room was somewhat small - but keeping in mind it's NYC - can't really hold it against the score. The main problem which ended up not being one was valet - there isn't any during Covid. ????? Ok? Down the street is a parking garage (no in and out service) and from Friday midday to Sunday morning it came to $108. Yikes but again - it's NYC. The most troubling part was the vaccine card policy in the breakfast area - as I had to show my card to checkin so why would I have to show it again? I'm staying there so obv I showed it, and this isn't a restaurant where people can just walk in and have breakfast? Bc of Covid you have to ask for housekeeping so make sure to do that. Do you know what? This place gets four stars just for the fact that I was able to get up go downstairs and get coffee and breakfast. Years and years of staying in New York City and this is the first time I've ever been able to do that. The staff was very helpful. They told me how to get everywhere that I was going. And, unfortunately the printer was out of ink but they offered to print my boarding pass on the main computer. Of course the rooms are New York small but there's not much you can do about that. Stayed for one night and found this bug in the morning right before check out. I showed the manager who took this sample I collected. They were very gracious and refunded my one night stay. They said they got an exterminator to come look at the room and the exterminator found nothing and were unable to identify the insect we found in our bed. While the manager handled this situation gracefully I feel others should know there's a threat of unidentified bed bugs in this hotel read more

Nice location far enough away from the major tourist attractions but this is NYC baby...the 2nd greatest city in the world (sorry NY'ers, London rules)...nothing is that far. Lyft, uber, the public transportation will get you wherever you need to go. Youre not living here, your sleeping here and well worth it. by the way I had read a review about the girls at the front desk. They are truly the best! Exited to see you and doubly excited to help. I've stayed a Hampton Inn by Hilton before in a various locations, but this one was the most unkept of all. Bathroom light, telephone, and then the tv didn't work which really irked me since I had to spend the day in the room! Tape left on the ceiling from a previous guest. Shower curtain stained and mold in shower, desk chair ripped, air filter dirty with fuzz (hello Covid?). A few times the hall reeked of marijuana. No mini fridge or microwave. We didn't even mind no housekeeping unless asked for, but Hilton should be ashamed. They are a hugely wealthy and successful international company and to allow this property near the UN to become so disheveled is shameful. On a a fair note, I appreciate free boxed breakfast and water bottles. Otherwise, I'd reconsider staying here again when I travel to NY. Too bad. read more

A pretty decent hotel with convenience and brand name to give you some ease. The room was clean and tidy, with plenty of space. The ac wasn't too loud and the area seemed rather quiet to make sleep relatively easy. For New York, the room is pretty sizable and did not feel cramped. The breakfast dining area was fine, though I did not eat much here, save for some yogurt and fruit. However, the spread looked like the typical Hampton Inn offerings, with generic baked goods, waffle makers, eggs, and some breakfast meats, along with cereals and yogurts. The lobby is a bit small and it's crowded during check-in/check-out time. The staff was okay, though sometimes a little flighty and you just have to be a bit patient. However, the spa water and chocolate chip cookies were nice touches. Plus there is an area for coffee or tea for any time of the day. There area two (slow) elevators and one was broken at periods of time. So I often took the stairs. read more

The room was clean and the water pressure and temperature was great. Got super hot quickly. Felt like the AC could be adjusted because it didn't feel like it would get cool enough. Stayed here on a recent visit to NYC due to its location, convenience, and proximity to Times Square. Since the property is near the UN, the area is also known as a safe area. The property recently opened in May 2013. The check in counter was full upon arrival. Check in was cordial and quick. They also honored my status with Hilton and offered me a small snack and water. The property is tiny with ~8 rooms on each floor and 21 floors. There are only 2 elevators and 2 sets of stairs for the entire property. My room was facing the street and was subject to noise throughout the evening...there were some dumpsters in the middle of the night?!? In the morning, heard the neighbors get ready in the morning with water sounds... Bed is very comfortable and water pressure is excellent in the shower. Wifi is FREE and speedy. Breakfast is also FREE but really lackluster...at least you won't walk out with an empty stomach?!? Staff are all in Hampton Inn uniforms with their name tags. read more

This was our second visit to this location of Hampton Inn. The rooms are a good size. It has 4 rooms that are handicap which was good fir us. The staff was pleasant and friendly to us. The hotel was also clean. My only issue was the hot water was never hot out of the dispenser to make a cup of tea. For most of our group, this was the first time in New York, and I have to say we picked a pretty good place to stay. The rooms were cozy, but not cramped. The area was relatively quite, and subway access was just a block or so away. Breakfast was above average, but if I came to Manhattan again during the summer, a pool would be a really nice option. As would on-property laundry. Hotel provided parking would have also been nice, but the affiliated parking garage was just a hundred feet away. All in all, it was good. read more

Breakfast below par compared to other Hampton Inns. Also, no fridge or microwave in the room. Now.: with all that said.... it is mostly about the attitude of the employees. The reservation I had was for two double beds. When I get to this hotel they tell me I have a king size bed. I explain I made a reservation for two double beds and the woman at the front desk said we contacted the place you booked through and told them about the room change and they were supposed to tell you. Obviously, no one informed me about it. I was not offered an upgrade or a discount or a free night's stay. The furniture in my room was extremely worn. It should have been thrown in the garbage (see pictures). I had food delivered and the woman at the front desk took the food from the delivery guy but never informed me that she had it. If I didn't call the delivery guy to ask about my food I would not have known that she had my food. Was she going to eat it? This was just such a bad experience. read more

Save your money!!!!!!!!! From the moment we got to this hotel there was nothing but issues. We had 3 rooms and of course only 1 room was ready at check in (3:00). We walked into this room and it had a sealed lysol "Your room has been clean" sticker. We walk in and it definitely did not smell clean more like someone had been passing gas in there throughout the day. Our toilet paper holder was broken, stains on the sheets and the tiny room looked super worn out. We found out that we had to schedule within 24 hours for them to come clean the room and restock everything, take the trash out etc. so that is what we did the following day. They never came and when we went back to the front desk the previous front desk girl never even scheduled it. When we told the girl working that one big reason we wanted our room cleaned is that my bed had stained sheets. She replied with yeah they wash them but a lot of the times all the stains will just stay in the sheets. The correct reply would have been oh no I'm so sorry I will send up new ones immediately. Which I did eventually get new ones and i changed the sheets. The entire weekend we had to go down to get new towels, ask for clean sheets and change them ourselves, restock our own things like toilet paper and take our trash out. The walls in this hotel were paper thin. We could hear the 6am alarm of the room next to us so clearly I thought it was my alarm. Our other two rooms thankfully smelled nice and seemed cleaner than the first, however in one of the rooms the tv didn't work and after 2 days that same room had all the water stop working. Seemed like issue after issue when it should have been a relaxing fun girls weekend for my moms 60th birthday. Quite unfortunate! Only reason this place earned 2 stars was our super nice front desk girl as we checked out. Also one other front desk girl who helped try to order us a lyft when we were running late for reservations. I can't recommend this as a place to stay in NYC enough. From the moment we walked in the staff was extremely welcoming and acted excited to see us. The woman waiting on us even called the manager out to meet us. We told then we were there for World Pride and My B-day. We were gone all day long and when we came back they had put a Happy Birthday greeting on our door and left a muffin and come cookies for us. I was blown away! We didn't expect that. The rooms are small like New York but very nicely decorated and clean. I've had much worse rooms and hallways at more expensive high end brands. Good water pressure. Free breakfast that isn't just bagels and doughnuts. Eggs, sausage, waffle bar etc etc. Really good and great to save on one meal in NYC! They stocked it quickly and dealt well with a crazy breakfast crowd. They had some free water with lemon in it in the lobby most times and even cookies at night. When we needed something like extra towels we had them immediately. So fast we didn't know they were at the door. LOL When we left for World Pride in our crazy makeup and costumes they took our pics and were excited for us. They had a few tables and chairs outside (not in the pics here) which were great to relax in. We ate breakfast there most mornings to avoid the crazy breakfast people. Conveniently located to Grand Central station with easy transfers all all locations like Times Square etc. It was nice after being in crowds and crazy NYC to be a little off the beaten path in some peace and quiet. This hotel should have better stars. I came across this hotel through booking.com, I was it was a steal when the populated the area that I was looking for along with the price. My partner thought that I was lying when I told him where we will be staying and how close we were going to be to the city. The moment of truth. It was the day to finally check in and I was plenty surprised of how close the Chrysler Building was. Walking in, I noticed they had complimentary flavored water along with some delicious smelling cookies. The front desk receptions greeted us very happy and helped us when we needed to leave the luggage before our room was ready. The had nice breakfast and amazing staff. If it was easy everyone would have it too.... If anybody has looked for a hotel in New York in the Manhattan area they know they are sooooooo expensive. I was trying to find a hotel in the Manhattan area during Christmas time and while also trying not to empty my bank account. I called the Hampton Inn and they helped me find one of their hotels that had the lowest price in an area I needed. This hotel is located near Grand Central Station right between the Rockefeller Tree and Bryant Park. It was the best location for the cheapest price. We paid $280 a night not including tax. For three nights the total was $924. That may sound expensive to you but once you check out other hotels in this area around Christmas time you will realize that this price was a steal! The room came with a complimentary breakfast and not just one that comes with pastries. Theirs had eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, and other breakfast foods. There was complimentary coffee and hot chocolate 24 hours a day and they made warm chocolate chip cookies for guests in the lobby. The room itself was small but it was clean, modern, and had everything we needed. It had a flat screen TV, hair blow dryer, and also had a note that if we forgot anything they have complimentary toothpaste, shower caps, toothbrush and other items we might need. My favorite thing about this hotel besides location was the customer service. The girls behind the desk helped me with everything I needed! They even printed out directions for me. Alisha was the girl that we dealt with most and she was awesome. Their customer service was what will have me coming back time and time again! Loved my recent stay at this Hampton Inn location and with the prices of hotels in the city, this is beyond affordable. Our flight landed at 1230 and we arrived about an hour later. With check-in beginning at 3pm, we fully intended on dropping our luggage and returning later to officially check-in. But our room was ready! I'm sure this will not always be the case, especially during peak times, but it was such a nice perk to be able to check-in early! The lobby is quite small, but offers two flavored water dispensers for your use which was nice and there were always fresh cookies at the front desk. Another HUGE perk is that the front desk offers complimentary bottled water; you simply need to ask for it! It's also worth mentioning that the front desk employees are so kind, helpful, and accommodating! The rooms, while small, are actually quite nice for NYC standards. My group of 3 stayed in a two double bed room with a surprisingly large bathroom! The room, while slightly dated, was comfortable and CLEAN. Honestly cleanliness is the most important aspect of staying in a hotel while traveling. While there wasn't much room for all our luggage, we did manage to finagle a way to be comfortable. One in our group is a nursing mother, and we were disappointed to learn there aren't in-room refrigerators, but a quick call to the front desk to inquire resulted in a mini-fridge being delivered to our room! There is also an in-room safe. Breakfast is available from 6-10am and features two hot options (one egg option and one meat option), a waffle-making station, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, and hot oatmeal. Obviously fresh coffee is available as well. The location COULD NOT BE BEAT! Two blocks from Grand Central Station which puts you one Subway ride to the rest of the city! read more

This Hampton Inn is very reasonably priced, extremely convenient as you are a block from Grand Central and walking distance from many of the sites, and has a welcoming and friendly staff. This Hampton Inn provides an excellent value as the rooms are comfortable, they have a decent sized fitness center (by NYC standards), complimentary breakfast that includes eggs, omelets, hash browns, cereal, yogurt, and fruit. The one drawback (if any) was that the elevators are very slow (plan to wait 5 minutes during busy times) and are pretty compact so plan to cram in with your luggage. Other than that, this Hampton Inn was great for a quick stay. read more

Please do not stay here! The room I was in had FLEAS and I was bitten severely during my first night there to the point where I had to seek medical attention and was prescribed antibiotics. I spoke to the manager, showed them my bites, and even physically handed them a flea that I had collected from their room, but despite this, they claimed "they conducted an investigation and found nothing." They refused to refund me for my 1 week stay even though I checked out after the first night. Save yourself the headache and find somewhere else to stay. read more

As soon as we got off the elevator our room was literally right around the corner nothing fancy,small 2 by 4 room to me, bed looked more like a queen than a king. I just didn't like when we came back from partying at 5AM you have to enter your key card in the machine so the double doors can open but our key was not working & the night time front desk lady just was starring while the janitor was telling her it's not working SHE FINALLY PRESSED THE BUTTON TO LET US IN & ASKING WHAT ROOM WE IN! my friend had to use the bathroom really bad so we rushed to get in the slow ass elevator. read more

Spent nearly a week at this hotel at the end of June. We were in town for vacation and sightseeing. Overall the stay was great and I have few complaints. The location of the hotel is pretty decent. Its only a short walk from Grand Central Station, so getting around wasn't too much of a problem. Walking to Central Park or anything way on the west wide WAS a hike, but we just had to plan for that. The location is ideal in that its in midtown but far enough away from the hustle and bustle that it actually felt pretty quiet and we never had a noise issue at night. The room wasn't huge but we never felt cramped. The a/c was running nearly nonstop in the summer heat but it didn't go blasting on at 3am or anything that would have been distracting. The room was cleaned up every day--though one day they left their mop and didn't come back for it for a day or two. That was weird but okay. We only visited the breakfast bar a couple times during our stay. Its a pretty good spread. Every morning there are some hot foods--eggs, potatoes, meat--along with oatmeal and waffles. Additionally you've got 3 kinds of cereal, milk and juice, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and some pastries, toast, and bagels. The employees seemed to stay pretty on top of keeping things filled. New York City is a great town to see and this was a nice spot to come back to for our rest each afternoon and evening. East side is not our usual place, but I would definitely consider returning to this location the next time we get to visit. read more

This hotel is excellent, stayed for two nights and had a wonderful experience! We got a complementary upgrade to a balcony room which gave us a great view of the Chrysler building. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, not very spacious but it's expected for NYC. There's so much to do in Manhattan - very little time is actually spent in your room so this is a non-issue. The hotel is in a prime location. You're in midtown, 2 blocks from Grand Central Station so it's very easy to hop on the subway and get anywhere in Manhattan. There are also lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The hotel staff was excellent. Alexis, Vanesa, and Maria were all very courteous and super friendly. When checking in they noticed it was my birthday and had a bottle of wine delivered to my room, along with a hand-written birthday card. I cannot say enough about how great the hotel staff was during our stay, it truly made it that much more pleasant. Hotel offers free wifi and free breakfast buffet. We had breakfast at the hotel one day and I was pleasantly surprised, much better than I expected. Overall it was an excellent stay, I highly recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed! All the buildings across the street are taller so the City View premium is pretty much a waste. That being said the room was nice, shower hot and powerful, WiFi fast and free in the room. Loved the breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs, apple wood smoked bacon, do it yourself waffles and oatmeal. Dead quiet on a Saturday night. Even parking is good at $28 for 25 hours in the garage next door (get voucher from reception). read more

I was sincerely surprised and disappointed by the substandard level of accommodation this Hampton Inn offered. I have stayed in many, including others located in Manhattan, but never encountered so many challenges as this hotel threw at me. First the good news. The staff was unfailingly polite and responsive, my wake up call was on the exact minute and my car to JFK arrived one minute early. Room was clean and in good order. Perfect. Unfortunately there were a number of problems with this hotel. First, there seemed to be only one elevator (out of two) operating or the other was in constant use for other reasons than for guests. Needless to say safe distancing was impossible. They did not request vaccination cards or masking at breakfast, a universal practice in NYC restaurants. The alarm clock in my room was defective, I was not able to set the alarm time. Upon arrival there was no internet service available (this lasted for hours) and for some odd reason Verizon wireless service is extremely weak at this location, so no hotspot. The landline phone in the room was difficult to figure out as you needed to initially use the speaker function in order to get a line. Finally, there was no guidance (oral or otherwise) concerning where the ice machine was located, what time and where breakfast was served and other hotel services. Sorry to say, I would recommend against staying here if other options are available as these problems suggest poor management or oversight. read more
