This one is a bit of a mixed review, I typically stay at Hilton properties while traveling and always enjoy Hampton Inn and Suites. I ultimately gave them a 3, but leaning towards a 4, just been in more updated properties, that is why are ended up at a 3. This particular Hampton is a Hampton Inn, not Inn and suites. Did not realize that, but not a big deal. The rooms were still pretty spacious and comfortable. The staff here was very good, smiling, helpful, offered me some snacks for being a Gold member, thank you. The hotel itself was comfortable, but it is on the older side, but still has an outdoor pool, breakfast area and a small gym. So really all the things you need for a comfortable stay. I did not try out the pool, but the breakfast was good and the gym worked, but lacked a bench, which makes a big difference when trying to get a good workout in. The rooms have a slightly larger mini fridge, which is nice to store leftovers and a small freezer section, A coffee maker and a microwave, very convenient. Bed was comfortable as well. There was actually a group of soccer player staying at the hotel that were pretty loud, but once in the rooms, could not really hear them that much, so the walls had decent insulation. As far as the review, here is the good and what could be improved and the weighted average lead me to a 3. Hotel common area's 3 Room 3 Free Breakfast 4 Free parking 5 Gym 2.5 Pool 4 I think this hotel could easily be a 4, maybe even a 5 with an update to the decor and rooms and if they could reconfigure the gym to add a bench and maybe a bigger footprint, but even just adding a bench would bump it up to a 4 for me. They did have dumbbell's up to 70 or 75 lbs, which is a plus. If you are looking for a comfortable stay, reasonable rates, free parking and breakfast and a good overall value, this is a good choice. No frills, just a clean place to stay. I would recommend. I would imagine they will update soon as all around them is up and coming and building a lot of new modern structures, I would hope they would to keep up with the area. Enjoy! read more

Hampton Inn San Marcos maybe an older hotel but still charming in its own way. It's conveniently located near the Twin Oaks Valley road exit off hwy 78, with many restaurants and shops near by. The room is comfortable albeit smaller than my expectations. There is only one elevator in the middle of guest rooms without sign. I walked right by it not seeing it the first time. There are 4 kinds of coffee and a snacks rack even late into the afternoon which is a definite plus for me. On the house breakfast is served daily 6-10am in the dining area. It's the no-frills type of place perfect for my needs. read more

Not a 5-Star quality hotel, but this place is very pleasant, clean, and comfortable. Desk personnel were all very personable and helpful. Free breakfast was pretty decent. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone watching their budget, especially those who need to stay close to the Kaiser Permanente San Marcos hospital. (By the way, that hospital is phenomenal! Good hotel to stay at if your out in Escondido/ san Marcos Area of San Diego. I always look for Hampton inn's cause at least I know I wont have to worry about 1 meal during the day. We stayed here out of convenience for an event nearby. This hotel gave the option to do everything from the app. I was able to check in, check out, and use the digital key within the Hilton app. However, the digital key didn't work on some of the outside doors of the hotel but we were able to enter as other guests were leaving. When we entered the building the first door that we passed was covered in caution tape. The room is fairly spacious and there was lots of storage space for clothes/luggage. The furniture is a little bit dated and the door definitely looked like it had been previously damaged. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bath products were decent as well. The walls were fairly thin as we could hear the people in the hallways, in the rooms next to us, and above us. read more

My rating has to do with our Service Dog. The hotel BS'ed that he was barking, which he did but rightfully so (I'll explain further down) but he's a dog and reacts to disturbances in the hallway. Another dog down the hall was also barking but more frequent but probably same issue. The issue was noisy across the hall, it all started when the on call desk agent came up around (10:30 PM) because of the guests noise. I opened the door because our dog was growling. The hotel person was there and I asked what was up. She said she had a complaint of noisy neighbors. When I opened the door she saw my dog that I registered as a service dog, on my original reservation but when I made a modification with the front desk ( changing from 3 to 2 days) they didn't add the service dog to the reservation, even though I specifically told them. So, to make a long story short, the hotel thought they had me for an unregistered dog and charged me $75.00. I called once I received the bill and the manager was even full of bologna and said our dog was noisy, yeah because he was barking at the noise in the hallway. These guys across the hall were noisy and people were pounding on their door at night and the next day before 6 AM and yelling the guys name apparently in the room, which again triggered the dog to briefly bark until I top him to stop (remember the time, these guys accross the hall woke us). Anyway they refused to take off the charge and tried to make my dog barking the issue and frankly piss me off with their BS antics. Plus, I am a Diamond Member so you'd think I'd get a level of appreciation. To say the least, I wouldn't stay here again for free. This was the absolute worse Hampton Inn I've stayed at and I've stayed at many. I'd give them one star if they didn't have such great housekeeping staff. read more

Staff are friendly. Location is close to CSU and there are many restaurants nearby. The hotel is old but they maintained it clean Our room was clean, bathroom was clean, and I enjoyed the water pressure from the shower head. I took a star off because the body wash dispenser was empty and so was the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo bottle was located by the sink instead of being in the shower. There was no lotion dispenser and had to call front desk at 6 am to tell him that the dispensers are empty and he grabbed some from the supply room. He said housekeeping doesn't come in until 9 am. I wish housekeeping would check the dispensers on a daily basis. read more

I hate to do this but honestly the staff was rude because I wasn't a "Hilton member" as if that was what determines if my business was worth keeping to them, the rooms are dated and the breakfast was not worth getting up for, The walls are thin, they allow their Hilton members to bang on the walls. Apparently, there's a Noise coordinate that starts around 7 PM. The management team is very unprofessional, and after staying there once I do not plan to become a Hilton member at all. I don't really review hotels, but I wanted to say that the rooms are what you would expect at this price point. It has a pretty good location, being right by the freeway. The most important item I would like to mention is that the beds are really comfortable. When you first lay on them, you wouldn't think so, but after you wake up, you will realize you had a really restful sleep. And the breakfast is pretty decent. The meals vary from day to day, and is pretty consistent in quality. Like most hotels that offer breakfast, this has an easy to use waffle maker with flavors that change daily. read more

I had a confirmed reservation for this hotel, and when I arrived, they casually told me they didn't have it. No warning. No explanation. Just "we don't see your reservation," as if that somehow solved the problem. What makes this even worse is that I called TWO DAYS BEFORE arrival specifically to confirm, and I was told--clearly--that my reservation was confirmed and on file. So either their system is a mess, their staff is incompetent, or they simply don't care. Possibly all three. After traveling and arriving expecting a place to stay, I was left scrambling because of their failure. No accountability, no real apology, and no effort to make things right. Just excuses and indifference. A hotel's most basic responsibility is to honor reservations. If they can't manage that, they have no business operating. This was stressful, frustrating, and completely avoidable. Save yourself the headache and book literally anywhere else. read more

I love the San Marcos Hampton Inn! I stayed there for the first time last weekend. It's quiet and in a nice location, with an outdoor pool and jacuzzi. I was grateful for the FREE parking, a rarity anymore in San Diego! There's also a nice included hot breakfast. I was able to get an early check in to take a nap after a 4am travel day, and the room was quiet, clean and super comfortable! Loved the mattress. Thought my husband was snoring again so I kicked him and turns out it wasn't him but someone in the next room. Our room had a weird smell at first. Maybe musty? Also The first night it sounded like there were 5 kids jumping off the beds in the room above us. It went on until well after 10p! Doubtful we will stay at this particular property again. Sort of sad that it's in the Hilton family as it doesn't really reflect the quality of property that we are used to in a Hilton property. First off, lets me just say I'm a frequent traveler and stayed at everything from 2 star to 5 star hotels. In the case of the Hampton Inn in San Marcus, I can honestly say I've never had such a bad hotel experience by FAR. The ineptitude and lack of managerial oversight of this property is incredible. So starting with my first night, I woke up to FIRE ants in my room and in my clothes which stung me severely when I put them on. When I went downstairs to request a new room from the front desk, the front desk clerk was totally unfazed by my problem and barely seemed to care. He then offered the room NEXT DOOR to my current room (you mean the room with a FIRE ANT Infestation?). When I declined, he finally put me in a handicapped room down the hall on the same floor. Fine, or so I thought. The next morning I woke up to a 2:00am a PARTY going on right outside my window. Yes, apparently a hotel guest invite30 of their friends over to have LOUD party (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT) When a called down to the front desk to complain, the clerk said he'd "look into it". LOOK INTO IT?? The party was going on directly across from the front desk in PLAIN eyesight. Did the party stop? NO. So this is the type of property Hilton runs in San Marcos?. No management oversight, poor training, totally inept staff, and a free-for-all when it comes to security and a peaceful night for the guests? I was of course offered a "discount" for all my troubles. Did I receive a discount? Nope, full price. I recommend staying ANYWHERE but the Hampton Inn in San Marcus. read more

First Zylene at the front desk is AMAZING!! She helped us out with our arrival and was a true pleasure to work with. She made our stay amazing. The hotel is in a great location near so many places to eat. The rooms are clean and beds are comfy. Wifi was great. Breakfast was yummy and the hostess was super nice. We had a great time and will be back. The only issue was water flow in shower with the switch from bath to shower but not a big deal. Loved our stay!!! read more

Wish I could rate this 0/5 stars. Was very excited to be staying here but upon checking in, there was this weird smell my husband and I couldn't shake. We told the front desk receptionist and she acted like we were crazy. We asked the people next to us and they agreed. We went up to our room and saw that the sheets were stained and unwashed- really gross. It was a room where when you got closer to objects and walls you noticed all the dirt and grime left over. For a chain hotel, this hotel fit the bill. We were in town for a wedding; the venue was about 8 miles from hotel. Hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was great, even with my crazy family driving them nuts. The only thing that may bother some people is the fact that it's a dog friendly hotel, so you may hear barking at all hours. Loved the free breakfast, especially the waffles! (The eggs were pretty blah!) Location felt safe with a great little store for snacks and drinks just across the street. Plenty of restaurants in the area. I would definitely recommend and stay here again if needed. read more

I'm giving this hotel 1 stars as it should be. I have no idea why AAA is endorsing this below average hotel, which looks nothing like its website photos. Overall, the hotel is dirty, smells like old carpet, and the beds are super uncomfortable. It's overpriced for such a dirty old hotel. I had booked for two nights 8/3 to 8/4. I arrived after 8:30pm on 8/3 and it was too late to look for another hotel. When we walked out of the elevator in the 3rd floor the hallway reeked of weed and I know its legal now, but come on, I have kids with us. We did decided not stay and Sunday morning I spoke to the kid about 13 years old working the front desk who checked me out. Today Monday morning I called the Hampton to follow up and make sure not to be charged for 2 nights and spoke to General Manager David Chang who I had to point out to him that he never asked me why I did not stay the 2 nights nights and he rebutted me and "said I already know you mentioned it before". If I was the General Manager I would of asked all the questions to learn from this experience and do better. He should of offered to not charge me at all but that's ok I'll pay but they earned this review. I do have to say for the people who gave this place positive reviews please get out more and travel as you seem not to travel much. People need stop staring into their phones and take a look at their surroundings. For only having 1 elevator for all these rooms they should at least keep it clean. read more

So I was only here for one day and by the time I got there and checked in and left it was more like 11 hours. That being said: The hotel was clean throughout. Its an older property but seems well maintained with the usual wear and tear but in good order. I only interacted with one staff member checking in and she was friendly. I stood one night here after a training, and it definitely was my worst hotel experience. The bathroom shower head kept falling and was broken. The bathroom shower walls needed clean paint and sealant as they were stained. The worst experience I had there was when I was brushing my teeth and turned off the water, when the sink fell nearly hitting my bare foot. Luckily my foot is intact. After a brief look at the back of the sink, the adhesive was worn and the hardware on the back appeared old. I should really give a 1 star but the Caucasian lady in the front desk gave me good recommendations on where to eat and good breweries. Shout out to her! Otherwise a no bueno experience. If you are wanting to visit San Diego and would like to stay away from the touristy areas and stay in a convenient location that is 35 miles or so away from the San Diego Zoo (which is what we did when looking for a place to stay) then look no further and consider Hampton Inn in San Marcos! Located in North County San Diego, right off of the 78 freeway, exit Twin Oaks Valley Road, and next to the Shell Gas Station (make a u-turn) is where you will find the Hampton Inn. We also chose this Hilton hotel establishment for you guessed it, the low rate and a chance to rack up those Hilton Honors points! Oh and a free hot breakfast that was a grab and go was also an excellent reason for choosing this place! Upon arrival, parking was free and close in proximity to the front desk lobby area where there was an assortment of free coffee and tea available. As a silver member of the Hilton Honors program, we received free water bottles as well. The hotel is very clean and sanitized especially to meet the COVID precautions standards. There was a pool available which was open, and located in back of the lobby, but we did not partake in this activity because of our tight schedule. We did like the convenience of the eateries and stores close by when choosing places to eat. Another plus for people to know is that it is the closest hotel to Cal State San Marcos. The room we had (room # 202) was next to the stairway which was convenient for us to access the 2nd floor and also down to the lobby/exit to our parking spot, there is an elevator available that is somewhat located in the middle of the hallway as well. The front desk staff were very helpful, provided us with items we needed, and we were able to choose our hot breakfast items upon check-in for both days by filling out their breakfast form. The hot breakfast items available were toasted bagel with cream cheese, toast, hard boiled eggs, and a Jimmy Dean Breakfast sandwich. The ease of the grab and go for the hot breakfast helped to start our day more efficiently without having to wait a tremendous time for the most important meal of the day. The shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion are all from Neutrogena. And if you are like us, travelling with a baby, there was a crib versus a pack n play available. So if you want ease, comfort, and convenience without all the busy tourists, then try the Hampton Inn San Marcos where you can relax because you deserve it! read more

Stayed at the inn for a friends wedding nearby. Nothing special or fancy here. The rooms are a bit outdated but they have everything you need for a quick overnight stay. There's free continental breakfast in the morning and free parking. Two floors of rooms with an elevator available. It's right near a gas station with a minimart for snacks/food. read more

Our stay was five nights, we've stayed here a couple times before a few years back. It's a convenient location for us. We requested a third floor room opposite side of the Denny's next door to avoid late night noise but alas we did get woken up at 4 in the morning the first night by some loud shouting and hammering outside by a few homeless people that can heavily occupy the area sometimes. The room did have a musty smell or something to it and one of the pillows stunk! There is no house keeping each day unless you request it. We had ants...they showed up in the room the last two days even though we never had food or drink of any kind in the room. The outside parking has very tight spaces and fills up which can make it a hassle. Be sure to lock your car. We liked the complementary breakfast which is very convenient and good enough. The desk personnel are very helpful! This stay was not as good as some of our others. Three stars at best. read more

Booked a last minute Legoland overnight trip, unfortunately it was Valentine's Day weekend. Everythinggggg was completely booked, from Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, Encinitas, etc. I found the Hampton Inn San Marcos. I usually love the Hampton Inns for their cozy rooms and free breakfast and free wifi. The rooms at the San Marcos location was nice. Good free breakfast with eggs, waffles, sausage, bread, cereal. Free wifi with your stay, good heated pool and hot jacuzzi, tons of cable channels and a newly installed WaterPik shower head. Only cons of the San Marcos location, LOUD AC unit (whenever the AC kicked on, it made a loud thud), you can also hear the kids run up and down the hallways. You can also hear the adults talking from the hallway as well. Plenty of parking, secured doors, and thanks to Amanda the night manager who was cool when we checked in! read more

Chose this hotel due to the location for what we were in the area for and found a great deal online for about $100 a night. The few staff members we encountered were kind, the room was clean and the bed was cozy. We also got free Wifi! Our 2 queen bed standard room came with a microwave and mini fridge, closet (didn't pay attention if there was an iron/board), a desk with chair, an armchair, a padded lap desk to use if you wanna work on your laptop while sitting in bed, and a coffee machine. The room appeared clean and didn't have any issues with any foul odors or visible stains. The shower's water pressure was really strong and actually hurt! Not sure if it was just our room. The bathroom doesn't have a ventilator fan thing, so it'll get steamy quick if you take a hot shower. I loved the complimentary HOT breakfast! They had my favorite.. a waffle maker! There were also breads, bagels, cereals, fruits, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, sausage, a breakfast bagel, coffee (regular, decaf and robust) with various flavored syrups and teas! We stayed during a weekday, so it was quiet! Overall, we had a great experience here. This was my first stay at a Hampton Inn and it will definitely not be my last! read more

Our check-in time was at 11:00am and we showed up at 1:00pm ready to shower and get ready for a wedding. I think they were short staffed but the front desk notified us no rooms would be available until 3pm-4pm. There were about 10 groups in front of us on a paper list that were also waiting for their rooms to be ready. Front desk stated other people on the list were there for the wedding and they offered to let us use the outlets in the lobby to get ready. If we didn't have to shower it might have been uncomfortable but worked- however there was no way we could be checked in, shower and be ready by 4pm for the ceremony. I don't know what anyone else did but we cancelled our reservation and hopped over to a neighboring hotel that had last minute availability. read more

Great place if you need a hotel in the area. Prices are decent. It's really close to the Palomar Medical Center. A little ways from San Diego proper but doable. The room s are nice and large. No complaints about cleanliness. The a/c/heater unit is a bit old and loud. No wall control, you control the unit by the window. They have coffee and tea available 24/7 in the lobby. The free breakfast is the standard these days. Do-it-yourself waffles with some eggs, potatoes, cereal, juice, fruit, yogurt. Plenty of free parking. The free wifi is ok. about 4mbs down and 3mbs up. The staff is terrible and will have you kicked out on to the street... if a pizza delivery driver accuses you of trying to steal a pizza while you are waiting for a pizza at the lobby and kindly ask the driver if it is for you. Judge, jury from the driver and the Hampton staff. My pizza showed up after. Took it back to my room, had one slice, followed by a knock on the door with the staff forcing me to leave in 20 minutes. Terrible hospitality. Staff members know who they are. Do not be quick to judge your guests just because a driver accuses you of trying to steal a pizza. I make 85k salary and food if free when I travel. Why would I be trying to steal a pizza??? You can't just kick people out just because some pizza driver accused them of theft without a smidgin of proof... and not even ask my side of the story. I packed it up, got in my rental car and left.
