FALSE ADVERTISING. THEY WON'T HONOR MOBILE KEY CHECK-IN IF JACKIE THEIR RECEPTIONIST IS ON SHIFT
Kevin G.

On November 30, 2025, at around 7:45 PM, I called Jackie, who was acting as the receptionist at that time. I requested a mobile key via my cell phone, as I had already waited 40 minutes to avoid carrying my physical credit card due to having lost my wallet. Although I still had my passport to verify my identity and had already settled the room charges using my credit card linked to my Marriott BonvBonvoyount, I expected to proceed directly to my room upon request, given my previous experience with mobile keys. However, despite waiting for 40 minutes, I still had not received access to the mobile key app. When I called the receptionist, Jackie insisted that she would not send me the mobile key until I checked in with her at the front desk. I questioned her reasoning, asking why I needed to check in if I was requesting a mobile key. She responded that it was necessary to issue a parking pass. I then asked her what would happen if I didn't need a parking pass, suggesting that I had been dropped off by Uber or Lyft; Jackie maintained that I needed to check in with her regardless. I further inquired why the hotel offered a mobile app on their website if I was being denied access to the mobile key check-in option. Jackie implied that mobile key check-ins were not honored until I checked in with her, which I found to be inaccurate. The hotel's website does not state that checking in with the receptionist is a requirement to obtain a mobile key. The whole purpose of the mobile key app is to allow customers to bypass interactions with receptionists like Jackie. It seemed that she was creating her own rules in this regard. It is unprofessional for Marriott to promote mobile check-in via its app--screenshots attached--yet have employees like Jackie deny this service at their discretion. If there were an option to rate this experience zero stars, I would have chosen it. This was my first instance of dissatisfaction at this location, despite numerous prior visits for work purposes. I intend to file a formal complaint, as I believe that if a Marriott hotel does not support mobile key check-in, this should be clearly indicated on their website. I expect a full refund of my points and the deposit I made, as Jackie refused to honor their own mobile key app service. Kevin Cervantes

Hotel with traffic light to enter its parking lot

After much research, I decided to stay here at the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Marcos (San Diego) because I felt it was the best in the area for these reasons: 1) newer hotel so accommodations are fresh and not old/dated 2) safe area (it has its own traffic light to turn into the hotel and shares an area with an Outback Steakhouse and upscale apartment complex) 3) free parking even with multiple cars 4) no pets (hence not dirty and noisy. I hate staying in a hotel room next to a barking dog or one where I find dog hairs all over the sofa) 5) free breakfast: bagels, eggs, sausage, yogurt, cereal, waffle station 6) a Marriott property which is nice if you have status Upon arrival I was grateful to find all of those things plus: 7) a friendly staff 8) super clean hotel The only downside, which for me is a major downside, is that the rooms have zero soundproofing! Even after getting a room facing the parking lot and not the main road I still heard road noise literally all night long. I also could hear every detail of my neighbors conversation and TV shows they were watching. Maybe you won't be in the room much or be a better sleeper than me which is why I only took off one star. Luckily between the hours of midnight until 6am it was fairly quiet (other than the road noise) so I did get some sleep. TIP: the even numbered rooms face the parking lot and the odd numbered rooms face the road (so if you're noise sensitive request an even numbered room)

From all of the various properties I've stayed at in 2024 - for both personal and business - this location was top-notch (and that includes Marriott and non-Marriott properties, as well!) The room was smaller than I'm used to but it was for a wedding block versus a Bonvoy or Sapphire Reserve reservation, so I was told. Hence, no complimentary upgrade. Every other aspect of our stay made up for it.

Unexpectedly one of the most charming stays we had in socal. Since my parents were celebrating their anniversary, we were met w the most beautiful and thoughtful welcome swans and gift basket (with snacks instead of wine since we let them know we don't drink alcohol). It was one of my parents' favorite stays and truly made them feel cared about. The staff was absolutely warm and caring and we really enjoyed our stay. An added plus was the cute and friendly robot that brought us toiletries that we forgot. Breakfast was hot and fairly good as well. Rooms were very clean. Loved our stay and would definitely recommend

Shocked and surprised by this Fairfield Inn. (In a great way). Came here on a weekday for work travel + the front desk was super sweet/ helpful. Nani answered my questions kindly and didn't have a "don't ask me more attitude," which I appreciate because customer service lately in the hotel industry has been up and down lately. Stayed in a 1BR King Suite. Perks: - This hotel is close to the freeway, and pretty updated. Also, very clean. I've stayed at the Fairfield in Tustin ... and they need to take a cue from here. - Small gift (cookie + water) for platinum status; happy they acknowledge - The bathrooms most importantly is renovated. 4th floor is the highest floor. - - Free Parking, microwave, fridge, + breakfast, I would stay here for not just business, but also personal if I was in the area!

I am Thankful they could accommodate my service dog. They do require to see the licensing for service pets. It was a pleasant stay. I would recommend and stay again if needed.

The waffle has the "M" for Marriott, it's kinda cute

Marriott Bonvoy is the chain that I always go with coz I rarely get disappointed. This hotel is no exception, has a standard good service, clean rooms, complementary parking and breakfast included. Location is a bit far from the airport and downtown San Diego but you can't beat the price and the other consciences in addition to its being in relatively safe area. I would come back

Driving in and out of the hotel was a pain. This hotel isn't your typical hotel with restaurants in it. There wasn't food nearby within the hotel so I had to rely on food delivery. At least with the rooms, you can prepare your own food which is a plus. Their continental breakfast was basic, but did the job. The rooms which are coined suites, are large and spacious. The big downfall is really the paper thin walls. Even when wearing earplugs, I can hear the next door neighbors. The noise kept waking me up, resulting in a bad nights sleep. I wouldn't stay here again. Also, they charge $5/day for onsite parking which is obnoxious.

Beds: more comfortable than expected Game room: has free PacMan. For this amenity alone my husband will vote 2x to stay here again. Breakfast: solid Coffee @ breakfast: better than most & I appreciate that. Kitchen in suites: appropriately appointed and useable. The not so good: Man the rooms are dumpy - at least ours is. Snagged/ripped/terribly stained carpet, ripped bed linen, stained/damaged/food spilled on soft goods & wood furniture, missing or dangling drawer pulls and knobs, 'stuff' splashes on the lampshades, torn window screens. Wallpaper peeling off the bathroom walls, filthy rolling door tracks. Stayed 6 days and had to ask for service (just new towels). C'mon- really? Hall carpet is trashed - ripped, stained, pulling away from the walls Entry/common area - man..it is always dirty- smells great but the floor is dirty (same with the elevator floors) I suspect it's from the palm trees in the parking lot (poor landscaping choice) that drop messy berries everywhere & they get tracked in. But that gunk is all over. Seems like a deep clean is way overdue- I cleaned when I arrived, it was so bad and we were expecting family to stop by. Thankful for the staff - coming in clutch and making grey skies blue with exceptional service!

This is a nice resort with different activities to engage in: boating (kayak, SUP, electric motor…read moreboats), golfing, pool, biking, and even Taylor guitar! They have various types of room available. We have the lakefront view room which was really nice and calming to look at the lake, the mountains, and to just allow the kids to look at the boats. We didn't eat on site since we had plan for various places to eat nearby such as Buona (a fresh pasta place) which is next to Wynston's (a local ice cream with delicious local flavor such as roasted pineapple with cinnamon). This place is a good midpoint to Legoland and SD Zoo Safari Park. The only deduction to rating is due to the lacking guest services agent while checking in. The lady manning the counter was not welcoming, no smiles, and seems to just be annoyed. So much for a nice place when the guest services agent doesn't seem happy to welcome eager guests. Was not even offered welcome drink and I didn't bother to ask less getting more attitude.

You get a pass to to rent paddle boards or kayak but kids can't do it so you will pay $20 to do a paddle boat. They have a fire pit and give you smore packet to make smores. The reason for the 3 stars goes toward the staff and manager Andrew. They told me over and over that they offer shuttle service to and from golfing and their restaurant which is less thank half a mile away. Walking distance. When I called for them to pick me up, the girl at the restaurant never got a hold of someone so I waited. When I went back she's like no one answered and I said well were you ever going to tell me? She calls again 3x no answer. I call with my phone some guy answers. Said that someone from the restaurant needed to call. I pass the girl the phone. I hear him tell her we are busy and can't pick anyone up. He was on speaker. She noticed he was being unprofessional and she took it out of speaker. Get back and talk to a manager Andrew to tell him the experience. He basically sweeps it under the rug and said he was the only one there and he didn't answer the call. Other reason for low rating is the wait time in the counter. Seems like There's a lot of people in the back but only one person helping. People had to wait for bikes and check in checkout. It was a bit of a cluster. Overall nice stay. The cleaners and maintenance crew were super nice and friendly. Worth the money paid for the experience and the amenities.

I ultimately gave them a 3, but leaning towards a 4, just been in more updated properties, that is why are ended up at a 3. This particular Hampton is a Hampton Inn, not Inn and suites. Dis not realize that, but not a big deal. The rooms were still pretty spacious and comfortable. The staff here was very good, smiling, helpful, offered me some snacks for being a Gold member, thank you. The hotel itself was comfortable, but it is on the older side, but still has an outdoor pool, breakfast area and a small gym. So really all the things you need for a comfortable stay. I did not try out the pool, but the breakfast was good and the gym worked, but lacked a bench, which makes a big difference when trying to get a good workout in. The rooms have a slightly larger mini fridge, which is nice to store leftovers and a small freezer section, A coffee maker and a microwave, very convenient. Bed was comfortable as well. There was actually a group of soccer player staying at the hotel that were pretty loud, but once in the rooms, could not really hear them that much, so the walls had decent insulation. As far as the review, here is the good and what could be improved and the weighted average lead me to a 3. Hotel common area's 3 Room 3 Free Breakfast 4 Free parking 5 Gym 2.5 Pool 4 I think this hotel could easily be a 4, maybe even a 5 with an update to the decor and rooms and if they could reconfigure the gym to add a bench and maybe a bigger footprint, but even just adding a bench would bump it up to a 4 for me. They did have dumbbell's up to 70 or 75 lbs, which is a plus. If you are looking for a comfortable stay, reasonable rates, free parking and breakfast and a good overall value, this is a good choice. No frills, just a clean place to stay. I would recommend. I would imagine they will update soon as all around them is up and coming and building a lot of new modern structures, I would hope they would to keep up with the area. Enjoy!

Please note that it is pet-friendly, so you just that in mind if you have pet dander allergies. The hotel itself is only five years old, so still really new. It's an all suites hotel so it served that need. The room itself on appearance was very nice, perhaps recently refurbished and felt clean and modern. We had a couple experiences which made it a little weird though. The rooms have motion detecting lights that you can only sort of control. The shower for example...the light turns off when you're in the shower as it doesn't sense your motion and there's no way (obvious to us) to force it to stay on. That was a bummer for the 2 of us who wanted to shower but had to do so in the dark unless we opened the shower door and waved our arm around to hopefully catch the attention of the sensor to give us another 30 seconds of light. This also happens if you're sitting on the toilet. The last thing I want to think about in that situation is having to provide additional motion so the light doesn't turn out. In the living space, a light also automatically turns on when it senses motion. Not great for having our son trying to sleep in that room and us having to move through it to leave the room or access the kitchen to have all the lights suddenly turn on around our sleeping boy. Also had a disappointing non-fitness room experience. The fitness room was no accessible because of renovations...okay bad luck in terms of timing...but they said I could go to the adjacent Hampton Inn and use their fitness room which was open 24 hours. So I did, but, unfortunately their fitness room actually isn't open 24 hours as I learned when I got there. So no fitness room and wasted time walking in the rain to the hotel next door based in the inaccurate info given by the staff. So overall disappointing and strange (especially the lights situation)...seems like they forget to dot a few Is when setting these rooms up.

This place really nailed their hospitality. every detail was well thought out! So why would I recommend this for families? For many reasons. Kids are welcomed almost everywhere! They hosted events from morning to sunset during the 4th of July weekend we went. Kids eat FREE all summer for breakfast and lunch (meals before 5) at a few of their restaurants. Then I believe it's half off for dinner! Food was great everywhere we went. She did love all the places she could run around and their complimentary tote bag! And for the staff- absolutely everyone was so kind, helpful & very welcoming. Most staff members went above and beyond for us. Servers- Jenna was fantastic. Sandra as well! I believe we had an Emma too. We did stay in the Villas by the front entrance. Our rooms were excellent. Clean, spacious and comfortable. Next time, we want to go with friends and family! Lastly- I hear it's near Legoland! We went to the Safari Park and that was a 30 minute, easy drive away. Can't wait to be back. I don't golf so I can't say much about that except for the views being absolutely stunning.
